Upon making my appointment at this salon for a regular cut and blow, I specifically told the receptionist that I follow the curly girl method, and don't use sulfates, silicones and drying alcohols on my hair. She assured me they'd be able to accommodate me. I was optimistic when she said they'd also be able to diffuse my hair instead of blow drying it straight. I walked in for my appointment and heard the girls talking about my request like "what is the issue?" "is she allergic to it or just doesn't want to use it?" and had to get the products from the back to wash my hair. My hair was washed and I sat in the chair for a while, and by the time my stylist got to me, my hair was almost dry. Anyone with knowledge of curly hair knows it has to be styled while wet with gel and/or a curl cream. She did the cut which was good, making sure the length was what I wanted and took off the right amount. But then to style me, she put in some type or cream or oil in my 70% dry hair that was probably filled with silicones. She diffused my hair on high heat, scrunching from the ends first and not starting at the roots. She diffused me for like 5 minutes and my hair was still damp. It ended up looking very frizzy, kind of like Lucy when she left her perm in for too long. I told her myself I would have to rewash and style it myself at home. I'm lucky I had nowhere to go that day because it was bad. In summary, my hair is fine, but don't tell your customers you have knowledge of something when you just don't. I think this salon is OK for people with straight hair or those who don't care about ingredients. The girls before me looked gorgeous. But curly girls steer clear. read more

Massie is a magician when it comes to coloring, balayage, ombré and styling. When I saw her my hair was all brassy from an old balayage, and she turned it into ash blonde balayage that I absolutely loved. The salon is nice and spacious. Massie is wonderful and I am so happy with the cut and color she did yesterday. She was kind to accommodate me on short notice and even though she was busy I did not feel neglected. Massie took the time to consult with me, observed my hair and gave me great feedback about the best cut and color to do with the level of maintenance I was comfortable with. She also didn't try to sell me a bunch a products I didn't need which was refreshing. The blowout she did was also phenomenal and even today my hair still looks picture perfect. I would recommend her services and will definitely be going back to her. Bonus, I wish I remembered the name of her assistant whom was also very nice, she gave an actual great shampoo! I'm super late with this review because I needed time to HEAL from the absolute trauma this place caused me. I had gone in here trusting the workers with my hair, explaining how it was my very first time coloring my hair and was super nervous. I emphasized I only wanted my very bright blonde hair a BIT darker. I showed her a few pictures of DIRTY BLONDE hair and emphasized that I still wanted blonde but darker. Then disaster struck, as she washed my hair it looked BLACK!! Looking at myself I already knew I didn't get what I wanted. So after blow drying I was a literal brunette with grey ashy highlights. Disgusting. Absolute opposite of what I wanted especially saying over and over I DID NOT want to go too dark. I paid and left feeling sick. Immediately went to put color oops in my hair later that same day because I couldn't leave this in. So now I was left with ORANGE smelly hair. Came back to speak with the manager or owner or whoever it was. Blonde lady with a bob. She only agreed to refund me HALF of what I had spent and her argument was because the pictures I had shown were shown different colors because of the specific lighting used like WHAT?! Not everyone is educated on the different shades of colors or lighting for your hair. Absolutely horrible experience because of the amounts of times I said I wanted DIRTY BLONDEEE. I could describe this salon with one word: HORRIBLE. I've been to many salons and not one comes close to how poorly I was treated here. I was talked to in such a nasty and derogatory way from the moment I entered the salon. As if there was something wrong with me and things only got worse when the hairdresser couldn't style my hair. She blamed my hair for her inability to style it and said if I didn't like it I could fix it on my own, and that she did what she could and would not touch my hair anymore and its best if I left. That was beyond unprofessional. If I could leave 0 starts I would. Never in all my life did I think someone who owned a business would talk to their clients in such a rude way and act so poorly. I found Bliss through Yelp while looking for a hair salon to style my hair for my wedding. I was pretty impressed with the five-star reviews and called Massie to schedule an appointmen for two of my bridesmaids and I. I spoke to Massie several times to confirm availability on my wedding day and was all set.  Needless to say, I was so disappointed with Bliss hair salon and Massie's attitude when styling my hair. When I walked in to the salon I was surprised to see how small it is and even more surprised that she had only one assistant and a couple of other girls getting highlights. Massie was hopping from one chair to the next trying to take care of everyone's hair and the assistant wasn't much help. What's the point of making an appointment if the stylist doesn't take you on the time agreed upon, especially on your wedding day??? Long story short, Massie finished my hair in a rush and I ended up, upon Massie's suggestion, sending my bridesmaids to a different hair salon just so we can finish in time for the wedding. It seemed like Massie was more concerned with servicing the girls getting hightlights (which cost $150+), than my bridesmaids who were getting basic updos. The icing on the cake was when Massie tried to charge me extra because "I'm the bride".  In all, I was very frustrated and dissappointed by Bliss hair salon and Massie's lack of professionalism. I will not be returning nor recommend Bliss to anyone. I believe the five-star reviews on Yelp might be from those that personally know Massie or spend $$$ in hair treatments and therefore are treated like royalty here. read more

I very rarely leave reviews below 4 stars, but I am puzzled by how many positive reviews there are for Bliss and wanted to share my experience with others. I scheduled my appointment on a Wednesday for the following Monday at 11. I arrived ten minutes late because I was not aware of the parking situation - no parking between 11 and 12:30 on Mondays! I drove around for 25 minutes trying to find a spot. I called at 11:00 to let them know that I was there but looking for parking, and they said that was fine and that I could still come in. When I arrived, there were two women getting coloring done. I had a seat in one of the salon chairs and one of the stylists asked me what I wanted. She never introduced herself, so I am not sure what her name is. I assume it was the owner, Massie. When she asked me what I wanted, I showed a few pictures from my Pinterest of Olivia Palermo and Elle Fanning with straight, shoulder length hair. I just wanted to chop off the last 1/2" and make it blunt (straight across, no layers). She told me to wait and then proceeded to put highlights in another client's hair for the next 15 minutes. She was standing right next to me and could have let me know when she could start on my hair, but she didn't. When it was finally my turn, she did not warm up the water when washing my hair, so it was cold and unpleasant. The salon phone kept ringing and she would answer while cutting and blow drying my hair. I felt concerned about her cutting my hair while holding the phone between her ear and shoulder. A few times she walked away from my unfinished hair or turned off the blow dryer to talk on the phone. After the drying was complete, I noticed that one side was longer than the other and she immediately told me that it wasn't without really inspecting it. She eventually evened it out but did not acknowledge that it was crooked in the first place. The entire time I was there she said 3 sentences to me, and one of them was invalidating. In the end, the cut was fine, but I left feeling pretty sour about the whole situation. read more

MUST READ! Came to Massie and showed her a picture of what I wanted (ash blond hair color) she ended up coloring it some type of red auburn color I wasn't happy at ALL! She then added highlights and left me in the chair for to long with bleach in my hair! The color came out awful. Although She helped me chose a color that matched the picture I showed her, she 100% picked up the wrong color because I can reassure you all it was wrong ! She even started to get nervous and told me her personal problems to diffuse the situation and it was definitely out of guilt ! Not to mention I don't care ! Fix my hair ! When she added the highlights It was blond on red hair and it did not look good! Even other clients agreed! She then quickly said let's add toner to fix it. A few days later my hair was super dry and color was gingy. Also the top color didn't match my the ends of my hair. When I left the salon that day my hair was so dry like a straw ! Looked like I was wearing a wig. It Took me a few days to wash out the dryness, chemicals & bring back a natural feel to it I came in a second time and told her to just dye my hair brown because I didn't like the gingy look, she gave me a complimentary shampoo treatment to soften my hair. The treatment DID NOT WORK! It's basically a stunt to have u buy the product a.k.a give her more money!! It's been a month now and my hair color is getting lighter with every wash, literally in color and volume ! she reassured me that I wouldn't have to touch my roots up because I have original brown hair. The damage of the bleach not only dried my hair out! I lost so much hair that I have to use a ton of conditioner to soften it out, in addition to that I have to wear hats in 50 degree weather because my scalp is so cold from no hair ! I referred so many clients to her and I still had to pay for her mistakes 2 times! I went to her in the past and came to the conclusion that the only thing she can do is cut hair, blow dry and do ombré. I referred many clients to her and am absolutely livid at how cheap she was to fix her own mistakes. If she was in my position im sure she wouldn't want to do a shampoo treatment and would actually want better customer service! read more

Within the past week I had my hair transformed after I tried (and failed) to color and cut myself. First of all let me start with I have very curly hair and it can be easy to cut myself just because you can't notice if lengths are all perfect, but I really messed it up this time and called Bliss and they got me in day of for an easy but necessary cut. Then I asked about the dye that I had done which turned orange not blonde like I wanted and we schedule for the same week highlights to mesh with the current base. I am very picky and after having the highlights for a few days I called Massie and asked to do an overall toner to blend the two colors for a more natural look and she was able to come in early for me on a Monday AM to have this done. DONT EVER GO HERE LADIES-- I came in for a subtle ombré (my first experience with coloring) with tons of photos, some of which Massie herself had done. When I showed her the photos she claimed "these photos are balayage, that's what you want trust me" so I did. Clearly taking advantage that I did not know what balayage was, she proceeded to give me thin stripy foil highlights, obviously to save time because she did it in 2 minutes flat, did not set a timer, and let me sit there until she finished two other clients. When I was done I looked like a zebra with bright ashy blonde stripes on warm dark brown hair. I went back a day or two later to complain that it wasn't at all what I wanted and she claimed it was a misunderstanding and agreed to try to give me a more "ombré" look. To do that, she pinned up the top of my hair and painted the underneath fully with bleach so that the bottom and longest layer would show through. No blending whatsoever. The difference between my top and bottom layer was night and day. Then again, she left me alone while she took her time working on 3 family members, no timer, never checking on me, pretending I wasn't there, then no toner. I was bright ass straw yellow underneath vs my natural color on top with a few stripes. To this day (7 months later) I'm still nursing the underneath hair back to health after she fried my extremely healthy long hair with way too much bleach. I'm actually glad she didn't touch the top of my head. Whatever she touches (bleaches) turns to shit. I stupidly paid Massie $250 for taking advantage of me, ruining my healthy virgin hair, and had to pay someone else another $200 for an intense color correction. I wore my hair up in shame every single day for 3 months until I was brave enough to find a new stylist (who by the way is wonderful: mania hair studio in nj is fantastic) I'm still unspeakably angry at this woman who ripped me off and couldn't seem to care less about her clients.
