John is very charismatic, and sets the vibe according to each client he has. He's very personable and welcoming. As for hair, I went in with over 6 months of growth and straw-dried ends. He was able to give me a fresh haircut and style and left me feeling amazing afterwards. It was easy to book online. After 6pm, there's free parking on the streets, otherwise it's by paymeter. There are coffee shops near by if you need to wait for the appointment. The hair salon is located right in front of the Golden dome top Church. read more

I can't recommend John enough. My 9 year old daughter has curly mixed hair. He knew exactly what to do with it! We got a perfect cut that keeps her hair manageable and her curls bouncy. Love the products he uses to finish off the cut too! John is also so friendly and welcoming. It was our first visit and my daughter felt right at ease. John saved my hair!! His salon could be called "bless" organic because bless him for the blessed color correction he so masterfully performed. I went to another salon in the city for some partial highlights a few months ago, but somehow got talked into getting an expensive hand painted balayage over my already darkly dyed hair which was such a bad idea... Within hours my hair became more and more brassy pumpkin orange and even worse after only a few washes!! I was in tears after spending over $400 on hair that looked and felt ruined. My poor hair felt so fried. Fast forward to more recently when I gave master colorist John a try and thank goodness I did because he totally transformed my hair I'm so grateful to have found him. I love the decor in this salon very much, especially the plants and window accessories. The salon itself is very clean and tidy. I came in for a full balayage and had a photo ready for John as reference. He did an amazing job; he listened to what I wanted and explained the process he would take to achieve the look. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

I have been seeing John as my stylist for over five years now, at his old place, and started bringing my mom to John as well last year when her old stylist retired due to the pandemic. I was delighted to learn he opened his own salon in the outer Richmond, very close to my residence (stylists always seem to go further away than closer when they move... for once, the opposite!). My mom and I visited John's new place, Bliss Organic Salon, a couple weeks ago for the usual wash, haircut, and blow out. We both love our haircuts of course, but most importantly we love John's warmth, friendliness, and the feeling of sanctuary we get at Bliss. It's never small talk with John - we usually laugh, get outraged, complain, and bond while we're sitting in the stylist chair. Thanks for being so great, John! read more

I had a Japanese Straightening treatment and trim. I was concerned about the harsh chemicals, but Ben & Elke assured me that they were not going to touch my scalp with the solution. They work fantastically together. Ben is extremely meticulous, thorough, and attentive. He pulled up photos on his phone to be sure of what I wanted for style. He really takes his time, and I really appreciate that. They both travel to Japan to get & bring back the Japanese Straightening solutions, too! Elke was so sweet and made sure I was comfortable & entertained throughout the 4 hour process. She brought out an iPad and uploaded a food documentary on Netflix, and made sure it kept running. This is an added extra touch that makes this small business incredible. I love my straight and shiny new hair. I got caught in the rain walking my dog, and NO frizz. I can sleep with wet hair, and NO frizz. It's so easy to take care of and get ready. No more straightening iron or blowing it out straight to walking outside and having it just fuzz up. I love it! Unfortunately, the day of my second appointment, I got a text from Adrian just half an hour before it was scheduled for, telling me he was sick and needed to cancel. I was already on my way and had ordered dim sum to get a quick bite before the appointment. Despite my frustration about the late cancellation, it no longer made sense for me to drive the rest of the way just to get my lunch, and I offered that Adrian could pick up the pre-paid meal I had ordered. I know how miserable it feels to be sick and saw this as an opportunity to extend a kind as a gesture of support. I heard nothing back (even to say no thanks). The next day Adrian offered me an appointment for later that week, which I accepted, and again drove into SF. When I got to the salon, it was locked up and dark. I called multiple times, and texted, but didn't hear back. 10 minutes later, Adrian responded and had completely forgotten about our appointment. How much did NOT getting my haircut cost? + $50 in mileage + $19 in Golden Gate Bridge tolls + $30 in dim sum (not picked up) ---- = $99 + 4 hours of my time Oh, and I still had to find someone else to cut my hair (booked weeks out). I do hope that others have a better and more professional experience than I did, but needless to say, I've taken my business elsewhere.
