This is the first review I've ever written because I've never felt so strongly compelled to leave one, particularly due to such a poor experience. Here's a detailed account of why you should steer clear: Unprofessional and Unlawful Practices: The management is solely focused on squeezing as much money as possible from their tenants, showing zero regard for their well-being. They unlawfully charged us for repainting and cleaning the entire apartment, even though California law prohibits repainting charges and cleaning charges of normal wear and tear after two years of tenancy. They refused to provide a legitimate invoice and mismatched the service fee list they sent us. Despite our attempts to resolve this, they remain unresponsive and have threatened to send these charges to collections, potentially harming our credit. Deafening Noise Levels: The complex is right across the street from CSUSM, making it a hub for college students. This might sound convenient, but it comes with incessant noise. Construction across the street, which is estimated to continue until 2026, makes it impossible to work remotely. At night, the thin walls offer no respite from the noise of parties, shouting students, and revving motorcycles and sports cars. Despite numerous complaints to the security guard supposedly enforcing quiet hours, nothing was ever done. Constant Disturbances and Safety Concerns: The trash chute frequently caught on fire, leading to numerous evacuations lasting 30-50 minutes, often in the middle of the night. The frequent fire alarms traumatized my cat and made tenants despondent to any actual fire threat. I would be shocked if the fire department has not fined them for the ridiculous number of call-outs. The elevators were often out of order, and parking overnight required redundant permissions from the office, making it a hassle for guests to visit. Delivery services were a nightmare, as the leasing office consistently mishandled packages. Declining Support and Maintenance Issues: Over time, support from the leasing office and management went from minimal to non-existent. The only saving grace was some of the maintenance crew, who actually did their jobs. However, even they entered our apartment without notice several times, despite our explicit instructions for prior notification. Rent Increases: The rent hikes every renewal period were exorbitant, making it clear they're more interested in profit than tenant satisfaction. In summary, the only clientele this complex suits are CSUSM students who might tolerate the noise and disturbances. For anyone else, especially those working from home or valuing peace, this place is a nightmare. The unprofessional and unlawful behavior of the management, coupled with constant noise and safety issues, makes this complex an awful choice. Avoid at all costs. read more

From the moment we moved in, we were shackled with sky-high rents, unmatched by the substandard living conditions. The management treats tenants as if they're inmates, with little regard for dignity or quality of life. Students or anyone else contemplating this "Cell Block" should reconsider, as the cost is a burden not worth bearing. The wardens, masquerading as management, seem fixated on extorting as much money as possible through a series of outrageous fees. Residents, or rather "prisoners," are hit with a hefty parking fee of $300 a month, while visitors must pay $10 daily, with my friends having spent over $1,000 just to visit. When our lease transitioned to a month-to-month payment scheme, we were charged a staggering $6,990, equivalent to $225 a day. Upon moving out, we faced unexpected and unjust charges reminiscent of fines for imaginary infractions, despite our exemplary 'behavior' as tenants. Enveloped in secrecy, management kept us uninformed about critical procedures, unexpectedly imposing financial penalties like the abrupt $1,100 carpet replacement charge and the seemingly endless "Final... Oh wait, one more charge" move-out inspections -- just another tactic to extract more money, reminiscent of a surprise "Cell" contraband inspection. Daily life in "Cell" Block C is plagued by incessant disturbances and hazards. The constant clanging from construction feels like perpetual lockdown drills, while the paper-thin walls offer no refuge from the chaos outside -- roaring parties, engines, and endless disruptions. Regular trash chute fires trigger alarms, forcing evacuations reminiscent of emergency drills, creating an environment fraught with anxiety and unease. This isn't just a BAD place to live; it's a bleak confinement where corruption and profit reign over tenant satisfaction. Management operates like corrupt officials, using every opportunity to impose unjust fees and conceal crucial information, leaving residents feeling exploited. i'll begin on a positive note. this single star is for the face value aesthetic of the building and units (try not to look too hard), and the maintenance team. tyler and thomas are amazing when it comes to maintenance and repairs, and carry resident rapport and positive experiences on their back. the only friendly and nice faces i've ever known from the block c team. in terms of the negatives, let's start with the leasing team. i have never seen such a quick and constant employee turnaround. the most standoffish and defensive employees i have ever met. issues are never resolved because they always manage to make the resident at fault and responsible. and if you do happen to have an ongoing issue, you'll always be speaking to a different person with poor communication due to employees constantly coming and going. no one will ever want to help you, there will always be a struggle, and you'll be left feeling scammed and disrespected. erica is the leasing manager, but you'll never be able to actually speak with her about an issue because she'll pass it off to someone else. if you do get the rare chance to see her, she'll put on a nice face until you bring up anything that could be a problem for her. always be prepared to fight for yourself, because she will gaslight and disrespect you until you surrender. because of the office, i'm honestly scared and stressed of even thinking of going in or speaking to anyone. they will bleed you dry in move out fees. expect nothing less than $500 when moving out, because they don't adhere to California wear and tear laws. if you're a resident, i'd suggest having a civil attorney on hand because i have no idea how they manage to get away with it. if you have carpet, you'd probably save money by replacing it yourself, but i wouldn't put it past them to find a way around that. expect crews to come into your apartment at least once a month. whether it's inspections, fire alarm testings, or aesthetic additions, guarantee a "notice to enter" on your door like clockwork. hope you enjoy the soothing sounds of construction too that haven't lowered rent and made the already poor parking system, exponentially worse. in all, mg properties should be embarrassed. i hope at some point they'll actually listen to residents hold some accountable for how poorly we're being treated. read more

I have been living at Block C for 5 months now. I would classify this place as amazing and a perfect place to live. No complaints once so ever and it's by far the best place I have ever lived. Staff is amazing and so our my neighbors. Everybody takes the rules seriously even the staff. This place is spotless and everybody always cleans up after their animals. A few months ago Block C installed doggy pick-up stations throughout the property. Even if you forget a doggy bag there will be one a stones throw away, which makes it very convenient to keep this place clean and pick up after your dog. The trash chutes are always working and unclogged. This is a nice change from the previous places I have lived at in the past. Block C is an awesome place to live. I can not say enough good things about this place. All of the staff go above and beyond and are incredible. They are pleasant, thoughtful, courteous and considerate. I am a young professional and work 8-5 days. Quite time is important to me. The walls and windows are extremely thick. If you shut your windows no matter what you will not hear any sounds. For example the city was doing a small repair on the street. Jackhammers were being used less than 200 ft. from my place. I couldn't hear anything until I walked outside of my apartment. Arguably the best place I could have asked for as a college student. This apartment has everything you could want. Just downstairs there is a coffee place, Ice cream, and restaurant. I haven't had any issues with partying college people so far or any excessive noise besides the obvious construction going on across the road. It is very convenient to live here everything needed is right around the corner grocery stores along with gas stations and restaurants as well. I have also had a great experience with the staff here. Samantha, Nikki, and Albany are all great people. I have built up a strong connection with all three of them and they have been nothing but awesome in the build-up process of moving in and living here. Any questions that you need answered they answer. I have not had any issues with them responding promptly at all so far! In my personal experience living here has been nothing but a blessing so far and I hope to continue my residency feeling the same way. I am also a frequent user of the guest passes that are offered for guests staying overnight and they have never shown any signs of not being glad to help me out! read more

When I reached out for help regarding a billing dispute--specifically related to unexplained solar charges--I was met with little support and a lack of empathy. Despite clearly stating that I had not received any billing statements and had already checked my spam folder, my concerns were dismissed, and the response I received felt more like a threat than an attempt to resolve the issue. Rather than offering assistance or investigating the matter, I was warned about legal consequences, which was both unhelpful and unprofessional. As a tenant, I expect transparency and respectful communication, especially when I'm simply asking for documentation to understand what I'm being charged for. This experience has left me feeling unheard and unsupported. I hope the management team takes this feedback seriously and works on improving their approach to tenant concerns. read more

Block C is a great community and offers everything we were looking for! The team in the office Van, Janeall, and Sydney is very welcoming and helpful with an application process. Brand new complex, everything is fresh and neat. The amenities are fantastic and it feels like living in a resort. The pool area very clean, beautifully arranged with a vertical succulent wall. The gym is stylish with wonderful air conditioning and new equipment. Our apartment is really nice with beautiful kitchen and appliances, window blinds, and glass balcony. CSUSM located within walking distance, about 7 min or so ( just across a street). A few restaurants, coffee shop, beer place, organic sandwiches and smoothies are locating downstairs that makes our life easier. Looking forward to taking cooking and other classes they are offering here. Also, the building is truly pet-friendly that makes our stay even more comfortable. read more

I really enjoy living at Block C! Since moving in, the area has undergone lots of changes. CSUSM is expanding and additional apartment buildings are being built. This requires a bit of patience in some aspects, but I'm excited to see the final results! With so many businesses and residents and the current construction the parking garage can get a bit crazy, but it has gotten much better since we originally moved in! Block C is walking distance to the CSUSM campus, Urge Gastropub, Umami Sushi, Grit Coffee, Prep Kitchen, and a fresh juice bar. They facilitate pets as they have several areas around the building with bags and trash cans that are emptied daily. The pool area for the building is kept up with well, there are also several grills available to use and a little club house that's nice to relax in too. All in all, Block C has become a great home for us. read more

Block C is an awsome place to live. I love my floorplan it's very cozy. I like that the community is always clean and that they have great security. Not to mention the gym is 2 floors with a cycling room cardio machines , free weights, and bench press! I toured a few other places before moving here and this place is second to none. The pool and club room are never crowded, plenty of parking... Top it of the Leasing agents are amazing . Sara and Jessica are always kind , courteous, there response time on emails and calls Is excellent. I'd like to thank them both for all there hard work. 5 stars all the way! read more

Avoid this apartment building at all costs. The halls are dirty and all stained. The halls smell of dog urine and there are pee marks everywhere. Dogs are allowed to be on the balcony's all day and bark non-stop and the management does nothing. There is dog crap everywhere and the smell will knock you over. They clean the elevators throughout the day with disinfectant because of all the dog piss....... Unless you want to live in a pet infested building do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. If you are single or a couple be aware of the kids taking over the hot tub - no relaxing here. read more

I saw the website, the amenities and the businesses nearby and had to get a tour ASAP! I was greeted on the phone by Janeall and she answered all my questions and was happy to schedule a tour. That weekend I met Janeall and was given a fantastic tour of the place and example unit. Immediately after the tour I put a deposit down on an open apartment. However Janeall went above and beyond by helping me navigate the leasing process. I unfortunately had to travel out of state but we were able to work everything over email and fax. Moved in about a couple months ago and so far so good! Recently had a Taco Tuesday event at Block C which turned out great and legit Mexican food hosted by Taqueria Chispa, which is right across from the complex. The staff is great! Especially the leasing ladies and the maintenance crew. If you need to get a hold of staff members contact Van in the leasing office or Felipé with maintenance. I am 110% happy with my decision to move into Block C!! I love everything about living here... pool, hot tub, gym, doggy wash room, pool table room, sun deck, fire pit... can't wait for all the restaurants/bars to open up. Van, Sydney, Leilani and Cathy in the office are AMAZING!! Our resident events are so fun and whenever my friends come to visit they always tell me they wished they lived here. I moved in just recently and I have found everything to be truly amazing. From the exceptional service with the leasing office, to the beautiful landscape of Block C, I could not be more pleased. The pool and gym is great! I feel safe. And being so close to school, food, and grocery stores is just a plus. There's a bowling alley right down stairs. There's always something to do. Went to visit block c on north city drive in San Marcos and was very pleased with what they have to offer! First of all, the architecture is beautiful with a classy modern feel on not only the exterior but inside the kitchen and bathrooms as well. The pool area is beautiful equipped with bbq's and flatscreen tvs. The two story gym is completely up to date with brand new equipment and more tvs!! Lastly and most important, they are DOG FRIENDLY!! Can't wait til I am moved in!! read more

I've lived in this apartment complex for a year and absolutely love it! Janeall and Van in the front office are very efficient and helpful with any questions or problems regarding the facility and are always so kind and inviting to the residents. The property is always clean and maintenance is quick to fix anything that is broken. My roommate and I have been so pleased with everything Block C has to offer we have decided to renew our lease for another year. No complaints! read more

I have been living over here for around a month now and I can definitely say that this is an amazing apartment complex with a great staff to go along with it. The team here always makes me feel at home and they're super friendly with anyone that comes in. They really made everything as easy as possible for me and my roommates and all you need to get a visitors parking pass is your room number and their license plate.
