I wanted to share the great experience I had with Block Tops for my home in Redding. They were professional, punctual, and diligent in their work and it came in at a competitive price. They came to take measurements about a week after I requested a quote, and the following week, they returned to perform the installation. The material I chose is 3cm thick quartz Caesarstone Atlantic Salt with a 1/4" bevel and three rounded corners. Their quote was thousands less than other local options in Redding. The sitting area is one solid piece and the regular edges have 1.5" overhang which helps to hide imperfections from my old counter top removal that may happen. The sink and faucet I got in the picture is Glacier Bay. While I like the sink, the Glacier Bay faucet isn't great--it may spray all over the place if not in it's place, the bar blocks access to the knob, lacks water pressure, and feels cheap. I also would say that a slightly less deep sink, like 7" or 8", would be fine and easier to reach dishes. Make sure your sink isn't too deep to drain properly into the wall pipe; a less deep sink at 7" or 8" would work better without too much sacrifice to sink use or plumbing. An undermount sink will also reduce the available height. Block Tops also helped me get an extra piece of material, even though they didn't have to. Since they've had some older negative reviews, I hope this update helps anyone considering their services. They took measurement, installed the countertops, but since they have no attention to detail, they did not ensure the plywood was covered after installation. This review is strictly for Block Tops employees. I will only mention Home Depot once because that is the only way I was made aware of Block Tops as a company. The two gentlemen from Block Tops that started work on my backsplash and kitchen counter are: JOSUE / CARLOS A few hours past, another two gentlemen arrived to assist with the project: JOSE / LUIS So for the first two (JOSUE / CARLOS) gentlemen that came, these guys are awesome! Did some meticulous work especially on my kitchen counter. They were careful and took many measurements and leveling before installing the counter. They were courteous and very flexible considering the (back story) issues that was beyond their control. They came in prompt and once the greenlight was given, they kept working. 4 hours in the work, I noticed they werent posturing to take lunch so I went ahead and bought them lunch and instead of slacking off to eat, they pushed on while eating intermittently yet still was working! No they were not messy! If they had a question, they asked us and gave us feedback and felt we were really informed as to what to expect from our response and request. The two other gentlemen (JOSE / LUIS) that came few hours after mainly helped with the backsplash which wasnt easy due to the small windows that needed to be addressed as well. The backsplash needed holes for the power outlets galore and my cabinets had little details that I am sure were annoying to the guys. My driveway looked like a ton of powdered sugar spilled on it but well worth it since the cuts were spot on! Cutting stone under 99 deg Sac weather is no joke. That's not a complaint btw when I mentioned the powdered sugar. (They sprayed my driveway clean after btw) All in all, very happy with their work and more importantly their work ethics and quality. I didnt hear any BS excuses from them. "Their" is in reference to the four gentlemen from Block Tops that represented the company well and rightfully deserves this review. Block Tops recently finished up their installation of new granite countertops in my kitchen. I could not have been more satisfied with the work and the crew that did the installation was fantastic to work with. Communications with Block Tops and Home Depot where I ordered the granite has been excellent. Block Tops always returned my phone calls and kept me aware of each step of the process as we worked towards the installation. The installers arrived promptly at the designated date and time promised. Never any surprises or disappointments and plenty of advance notice as we worked through the process. Carlos and Daniel were perfectionists when it came to keeping the kitchen area clean and paying attention to the fine details that makes for a quality installation. The seam on the countertop is so good that it is difficult to find if you don't know where it is located. We did a full backsplash with granite. It required seven cutouts for light switches and power outlets. All of the cutouts were exactly on spot and made the finish work of securing the electrical outlets and face covers a simple process. Carlos wanted everything to be the best possible and took his time in cutting all of the backsplash material to guarantee a perfect look. At the conclusion of the work the Block Tops crew did a fantastic clean up job and reviewed with me everything they would be doing to leave the kitchen in as perfect a condition as possible. The Home Depot Customer Service Representative from the Stanford Ranch - Roseville store contacted me after the work was completed to be certain I was satisfied with the work and finished product. I really enjoyed the good communications of the office staff at Block Tops as well as the professionalism of the installers, Carlos and Daniel. I wouldn't hesitate to use Block Tops in the future. I took advantage of being able to view the granite slabs at Block Tops prior to the engineering and cutting of the material for my project, and to assist in making the choices where the cuts would be to give the best appearance to the granite. The entire process was educational and enjoyable. I felt I received excellent value for the money using Home Depot for my new countertops, and with DalTile providing the granite and Block Tops doing the engineering and installation, the process went smoothly and professionally. read more

We had to use block tops for our installation because we purchased through Home Depot. Scheduling went fine. The first appointment 2 techs came out to measure our kitchen, I explained everything we wanted and we ended up adding on small piece for our window ledge. 2 weeks later it was our install date. Went smooth but at the end, I noticed they didn't install the ledge. When I mentioned it the installer told me it wasn't even on our order. I was advised to call the office to fix. This is where service goes down hill. I reached out multiple times and spoke with multiple different people who have all told me something different. I was first told it wasn't even in my plan, and then that it was and they missed it and that it was already paid for. The person who would be able to "find" the material is out sick all week. So she wouldn't know until Monday if there is any laying around or if we have to order. Issue is, I have backsplash scheduled for this weekend. So it's either move on with no ledge or cancel backsplash all because of block tops mistake. They also never reached out to me. I had to call their office every time because no one followed up when they said they would. Finally just now after calling then again, I was told they for sure can't find any left overs and I needed to call Home depot and let them know so I can be refunded (this was after I was told that I actually did NOT pay for it yet) so the story is changing again? Install and the overall project looks great. I'm happy with the outcome of what actually is installed but not at all impressed with the communication and now having to move forward with my remold without a window ledge. read more

Ordered countertops from Home Depot and they contracted out to this company for the measure and install. We were happy with the final product, but have the following suggestions for Improvement: - Have your guys clean up after doing the template process. I had shards of wood and glue patties all over my countertops after they left and was surprised they didn't clean up afterwards. Especially since we still needed to use out existing countertops for at least another week and a half. - Info collected during the template process (and from customer calls) such as the type of sink being used and the cutout type should be shared with those doing the cutting of the countertops. I got a call 2 days before the install asking about this info because it wasn't shared. - Educate and require your install guys to wear a mask that will actually protect their lungs from the extremely strong and toxic fumes of the glue they use. They're breathing this stuff in for at least a few hours during each install and it's no doubt horrible for their health. read more

Set up to view and select my slab, measurements and details of my request and install was also comparable. I believe it took two weeks. I want to say, I was scared at first and a bit cautious about the process. The ladies (Stephanie, Bernice, Jen ) were very helpful, prompt in calling back, and informative. They also made me feel good when I asked questions and expressed my concerns. Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with the out come from start to finish. It took me months to give the green light for this project, I went through all avenues (Costco, local guys, Lowes, ect.) but ended up going through Home Depot which contracts Block Tops. I would like to give a shout out to the entire Block Tops team, Kathleen and Shannon who ran the front desk were polite and punctual, once the store opened at 8am they picked up the phone EVERY time even when they were in team meetings. Also a shout out to Teo, and his apprentice and Wilmer and Ceasar who came back the NEXT day to fix a small imperfection with our cabinets at no charge. You guys answered all our questions and then some even if it didn't sink in the first time. You all did a great job, and I cannot image why anyone would pay double the price for the same product and install. Don't let some sales guy who comes to your home pitch you into some crazy quote, in our case I had to do alot of research to understand where quartz is produced and what companies supply it and i found out there are only 2. SHELL GAME?? While Osmin and his crew are quite courteous and leave a good impression, there is a HUGE discrepancy between that impression and the quality of service and (to a lesser degree) quality of work. My wife and I bought one of the most expensive, heat-resistant, scratch resistant countertop materials that Home Depot had to offer - Dekton. It had to be installed by a Dekton certified installer for the warranty to be valid. Our kitchen has an extraordinary amount of counter space so it wasn't cheap. We went with Home Depot's certified installer... Block Tops. In just a year and a half, the grout fell out in several places and a crack formed in the countertop that's so hard that special saw blades had to be used to cut it in a controlled environment. It's so hard that the installer demonstrated its resilience by smacking it with a hammer several times after it was installed! We took pictures and contacted Home Depot for warranty repairs who forwarded to Block Tops. Black hole. After several MONTHS of no returned phone calls, my wife pinned down someone asked for a "manager" and finally got this explanation... "someone forgot to submit the warranty." A few more months of phone tag... "someone forgot to submit the claim". A few more months of phone tag.. "takes a while with warranty claims sometimes" A few weeks... "claim was created but they lost it..." A few weeks... A guy from Dekton shows up to take his own pictures. He inspects the job and finds that the crack itself had been there at the original installation and someone had tried to repair it. You could SEE the epoxy that they tried to use on the underside of the countertop to try to keep it from making its way to the surface! A few weeks... no call from Block Tops. My wife pinned down someone... "cracks aren't covered under warranty, your house must have shifted, and Home Depot salesperson misinformed you on the crack resistant nature, it CAN crack..." Ok. So the "certified installer" whom Dekton REQUIRES for the warranty to be honored, installed a crack resistant countertop with a crack already in it that Home Depot and Dekton both asserted would be crack free under most circumstances if we used their installer... After angrily pointing this out (takes a lot to push me to the edge, it's not easy dealing with dissatisfied customers so I tend to have grace for that) Block Tops agreed to come replace the countertops. They actually had the nerves to imply they were doing us a favor. We gave them tentative appointment dates right then and there. "I've placed a hold on the material for you, will let you know if we can schedule an installer to come measure" Another few weeks no call. The tentative date is close. I had to leave town for a double-funeral that would have put me out of town during the tentative date so I left a message saying we'd need to reschedule, if it was scheduled at all. A few more weeks of waiting for scheduling to call us, phone tags... we get a voice mail..."so and so is coming this Monday to tear out your countertops and measure." Ummm what? It was Friday afternoon! Hmmmm... that's a very clever stalling technique... 'don't coordinate our schedule with the customer, just call them and tell them we're coming tomorrow, because chances are they can't be ready. If by chance they are ready, we can provide an excuse, like "I was in a car accident or had a COVID scare or my dog ate the grout we were going to use on your job..., " meanwhile we'll look like we are trying and it's their fault for delaying, and that'll buy some more time while we cover the 'paying' jobs.' It's been 3 years since we bought the countertops and we've not had resolution. Don't be fooled by the image they want you to see, or that the owner wants to believe - there's a huge disconnect between the value the installers seem to be working hard to bring and the value that the entire organization delivers. The office is killing this business. They don't answer calls, they don't return calls, they don't follow up, they don't follow through, they don't know how to schedule and they lay the blame wherever they think it will land. Does any of this sound familiar? I've seen other post that sure do. If so please post your experience so that others have a fighting chance to avoid misery. The cost of the original job is out of small claims court range so we're going to give Home Depot a shot at rectifying this first. read more

When they did the install, there had been a measuring issue because they forgot to take into consideration our mirror. They went back to the office, recut the pieces and installed the correct sizes. The crew came and did our countertops of over 100 sqft in one long day but worth it ( from 9am to 9:30pm). Santos Vallecilo was the crew leader who was professional, communicative, hardworking and his team of 2 during the day and 4 in the evening to meet the deadline. They cleaned up their work area inside our home and in the cul de sac well. I would recommend them and must say they were some of the most hard working contractor crews I've worked with. As you can see from other other reviews, this contractor/installer has top-down, systemic problems. These are related to their own lack of skill and abilities and to the big-box general contractor/installer approach that leaves an unprofessional subcontractor unsupervised. In three attempts to complete this work we experienced schedule delays related to their poor communication; a cracked countertop slab; improperly cut replacement slab; and then damage to previously completed work in a third install with a slab that mismatched the thickness of prior installed adjoining slabs, creating a problem with establishing a level surface across the joint. They apparently have their own magic eight ball device to use one or more of the following responses to any problem: - It's Lowes' fault - Yes that looks like a crack but I have to check with the office - It's the material suppliers fault - It's not a crack it's a fissure - We're waiting on Lowes - Granite is a natural material and not a material that can be manufactured to consistent specifications Their field installers were very personable and tried very hard. It was a pleasure to meet some of them. It seems that they need more support and a bit more experience in approaches that will allow them to be more successful. If you contract with Lowes (which I will never do again): - Do not pay up front - Be crystal clear about expectations for the your contractor (the entity you sign a contract with) to meaningfully manage and supervise the work - Do your homework on trade standards for countertop installation - Inspect materials with an eagle eye prior to the material being delivered to Block Tops for custom cutting - Inspect material carefully when it arrives at your home, before it is carried inside - Watch their work carefully - Carefully inspect and do not allow them to cover up with anything before your inspection (they covered our first installation with a thick oil that obscured cracks) - Expect delays and substandard work peppered with apologies and stock responses listed above. read more

Block Tops was the contractor for our countertop purchase at Home Depot. They sent out their measure guys and made an install appointment. They gave us a map of what the plan was. I called back to ask if they could omit one corner seam since it was next to the stove and a short side. They did it! It's beautiful and an exact fit. They put the backsplash seam in less obvious positions I am VERY HAPPY. I read there were a few poor reviews. I can only guess it's a variance in the workers. our install was in 2020. read more

My elderly mother was completely jerked around with delay after delay and no communication. At the last minute they demanded an additional $1100 or lose her install date. Unfortunately she paid it. She was confused, thinking the extra money was for a backsplash. No backsplash. When they finally showed up they said they were understaffed and could only do the demo. My mom had no kitchen or water in the kitchen for a week. The day they were scheduled to return they did not show up. When she called they told her they thought the job was finished. Had Block Tops install a countertop in a bathroom we are remodeling. While they did manage to get the countertop installed, they also damaged the frame of a new window next to where they were working. The installer didn't bother to point this out, but when I told him he gave poor excuse as to why. At that point, he noted the damage on his paperwork, as did I. After they left, I noticed that the undemount sinks were not set so the setback was even all around the sink opening and the silicon seal between the sink and bottom of countertop had gaps that would allow water intrusion into cabinets. Also had a small dent in sheetrock. Called company and they said send pictures. Haven't heard a word from them since. Let Home Depot know of the issue. I purchased new kitchen countertops from Blocktops via Home Depot. The measuring crew seemed skillful, and the slabs are very pretty, but the installers seemed less careful and left me with a misaligned backsplash. I had purchased the extended warranty and immediately contacted blocktops in the middle of June. Now at the end of August, I've made a couple of dozen phone calls and even had promised installer dates that ended up no shows - but I still don't have even a date when their installers might repair this error - and customer support has hinted that it might be several months out! First of all, a one star rating is too generous. Dealing with Blocktops has been a disaster from day one, and after over two months post countertop install, is still a disaster. We wanted to have a Ceasarstone countertop installed. After talking to multiple local companies, we decided that Home Depot was the best option. Based on the size of our counter, all of the local companies said we would have to buy two slabs of Ceasarstone. Home Depot prices by the square foot, so we would save about $1000 just in material alone. Home Depot's local counter installer is Blocktops. Blocktops is very noncommunacative. I had to call them multiple times just for them to tell me when they had me on their schedule for templating and instal. That's where the fun started. Once I knew when they planned to install our countertop, I could line up a company to do the tile backsplash. Well, they no call no showed on the template day. So I had to call them again. Got rescheduled for two days later. They showed this time. At this point they were to come back in eight days on a Friday to demo and instal at 10am. They didn't show at 10am. I called them. There office was randomly closed that day due to "phone system upgrading". Weird, but whatever. Their voice mail message said they would be monitoring their incoming messages and that they would call back. They never did. Finally, at 3pm, the installer team showed up. I though we would be good to go from there. I was wrong. Part of the countertop renovation was to install a matching window sill on the kitchen window that is centered behind the sink. They cut the the piece short by about 4 inches. How? I have no idea. I even told the template team how long the sill was supposed to be. We can come back next week to install the correct length window sill they said. Well, I had lined up the tile installer to start Monday, so that wasn't going to work. Fine. I put in a different window sill. No big deal. So they get the counter installed and ask me to sign off. As I walk into my kitchen, the first thing I see is a giant ring, about 16 inches is diameter on the counter next to the sink. It wasn't a discoloration, but had a flat sheen whereas the rest of the counter had a polished sheen, like a semi-gloss. I pointed this out, and the installer said that it would buff out and that they would be back next week to do that. Ugh. Fine. I did not sign the lien waver as I was not satisfied. I told them I would sign it when they buffed out the ring. Fast forward to Monday. Tile back splash is being installed. I call Blocktops to see what the deal is with this ring. They asked me to clean the spot with Softscrub with bleach. OK. I do. Doesn't help. Did you know there are multiple types of Softscrub with bleach? Neither did I. And neither does Blocktops. The only Softscrub with bleach that is carried at any store in Sacramento is the abrasive kind. You are not supposed to use that type on Ceasarstone. So I call them and tell them that it didn't help. They tell me that since the counter is installed that they can't do anything about it and that I need to file a warranty claim with Cearsstone. WTF?! They installed a defective counter and told me to go pound sand. I get in contact with Ceasarstone. They acknowledge that the slab clearly was defective, but that Blocktops should have not installed it. Yeah, no sh!t. Ceasarstone has been trying to get ahold of Blocktops for the past 8 weeks now to rectify this situation, but Blocktops will not return calls or emails, because Home Depot paid Blocktops already. The bottom line: absolutely under no circumstances should you ever deal with Blocktops. They are the most worthless group of counter fabricators and installers and absolutely do not give two sh!ts about you, your counters, or their quality of work. read more

Remodeling our kitchen countertop and sink was my family's first home project and being inexperienced in kitchen remodeling... we didn't know what to expect. The Block Tops team (booked by Home Depot) was great in communicating dates and times of measurements and installation. We chose the thunder white granite with a bevel edge (only because it was from the trending now section ). They sent photos of the granite slab so we could could "approve" the materials before the installation. Omar and Daniel went above and beyond, they called to give us an ETA, they showed us the granite to make sure it was okay before installing, (they even wore masks the whole time and followed COVID precautions ), they removed our old tile countertop and sink, and explained what they were doing throughout the installation. We were very impressed by the professionalism and services provided. They even gave us tips on how to maintain our countertop. I switched from tile to Granite counter tops. The crew showed up late starting off on the wrong foot. Then they couldn't get the sink to fit, then the dishwasher, after 3 hours working on those two things they were off to installing the granite. Some cuts are uneven, windowsill sticks out further on one side than the other. Some cuts don't reach the wall that the template was done for. Lot's of Caulking to fill in gaps where there shouldn't be. After the update on price found two places where Block Tops was charging for tear out where tear out wasn't required. Had to make trips to Home Depot to get my credits. I wonder how many people don't double check and are overcharged. I got lots of estimates before I went through Home Depot which contracted with Block Tops. One guy, who was not licensed, would have done it for half the price and probably would have done a better job. I chose to pass on him because I wanted to make sure that a licensed contractor did it. I'm wondering if I did the wrong thing. It's up to them to make this right now. Update, Found another place where they overcharged me. Horrible company. After months of negotiating with them and Home Depot they installed new counter. Again this one was cut to short. This time they said they fixed it and it looks like black masking tape at the edges. The caulking is cracking and sinking because it is cut to short. The mgr Osmind was to call to check on progress but he never did after second messy install. Treated so well and the finished product is truly craftsman. Heriberto, an installer and measurer, answered all of our questions and did an accurate measuring job. My wife and I were able to view the slab layout and move around the templates with the fabricator to ensure we were happy. Install day took about 8 hours for Heriberto and his coworker and all the finishing touches like caulking and cleaning were detailed. 5/28/2020 If I could give 10 stars, I would! Thank you so much Block Tops for our new counter tops! After months of searching, we finally found a quartz that we really liked at Home Depot called Viatera Clarino. We were able to view a large slab at Block Tops and then ordered it when it went on sale at 30% off and saved ourselves almost $2K. Everyone at Block Tops was wonderful! I have no clue why there would be any negative reviews at all, other than maybe the reviewers were the actual problem. Many thanks to Shannon, Kathleen, Wilmur, Thomas, Carol, Luis, Teo and Damien who gave top notch customer service! Installation day was 5/21 and included demolishing our old ceramic tile, laying the slabs in place making sure they were level (which included a window sill), placing our stove top back in, drilling holes for the faucet and making sure our new sink fit perfectly. Because there was a necessary seam, they used an ingenious machine with suction cups to pull the slabs as close together as possible leaving only a tiny 1mm gap which they filled with an epoxy matching color. Lastly, they removed some glue from all the edges and buffed everything. They gave us instructions on care and cleaning and left samples before they left. For the measuring and templating, Thomas quietly worked hard and Wilmur explained everything to us very clearly. Teo and Damien were on time for the installation and finished in one day. They worked efficiently, steadily and carefully, cleaned as they went, answered all my husband's technical questions and addressed any concerns he or I had, and finished before 5:00 pm. Block Tops' communication was great (especially Shannon and Kathleen)! They were ALL courteous, patient, thorough, efficient and highly professional. They told us their goal was to have us Extremely Satisfied and we are!! They even retrieved two 12x12 samples from their dumpster and dropped those off yesterday so we can use them for future reference. The Viatera Clarino counter tops are gorgeous, shiny, and completely smooth. No more flour getting stuck in grout any more! I bought kitchen countertop through Home Depot and they sub to Block Tops. Less than 24 hrs installed , I noticed the granite was fractured by the sink. Block Tops refused to change ,they said that is a fissure. Why they did cut the granite with a fissure right by the sink? A fissure is a natural crack in the stone , which any reputable vendor would not include in the countertop. And that crack was caused by installation/ support was not proper. It is different a natural fissure and a crack by processing or handling or shipping or installation. Now I am dealing with Home Depot and Black Tops ... Both really don care about customer satisfaction. read more

If your countertop installation is small and super simple on perfectly level cabinets and nothing more than very basic, they might do an ok job. But if you need anything that requires actual skill, thought and communication, just forget it. They made a mess out of my breakfast bar and I'm stuck with it. If I could do it over, I'd stay clear of both Home Depot and Block Tops. I wish I had gone to a reputable local company with skilled employees, even if it cost more. Learned a lesson. I will never do business with Home Depot ever again, not even for a roll of duct tape. read more
