I made reservations here for a larger group for my 24th birthday dinner. Despite having to make them on the phone, the process was very simple and there was a very nice table setup waiting for us when we arrived to the restaurant. The decor is very white and minimal with ambient lighting which was nice. Everything feels very intentional and aesthetic. The food itself I felt was good but nothing too exciting. As a non-drinker, I appreciated the number of mocktails offered here, although this is a BYOB restaurant. The French/Korean fusion is interesting and worth checking out for a nice dinner or date night.
Service was great but food was just meh. Definitely overpriced and none of the dishes were memorable. Do not order the cucumber kimchi! $6 for a tiny sauce cup (think, a cup you fill with ketchup) that probably had 6 pieces of soggy cucumbers. I really wanted to like this place but all the dishes we ordered fell short. Did we just order the wrong things?! I included a screenshot of all the dishes we got. I'm not sure why this place has such high reviews. Maybe it was an off day..
I was here on a Wednesday night and although I didn't have a reservation we were seated promptly. From a service perspective this place nailed it. Every server was friendly, personable and welcoming. Its a small place though so I can understand not being seated without a reservation Thursday - Sunday. Parking was a challenge but luckily we found something not too far away on a side street. BYOB is a plus and there's a liquor store directly across the street. Food: Bone Marrow, Octopus, scallops and fried shrimp. Bone Marrow: I'm not a fan of the gelatinous texture, I've always had it rendered a little bit more where its not just a blob of fat sitting on a crostini. We couldn't finish this. Octopus: Tasty however for $28 I thought I'd get more than 2 tentacles. Scallops: Perfectly cooked and the corn hash and sauce was an awesome accompaniment. Star dish! Fried Shrimp: Since I didn't enjoy the bone marrow I ordered fried shrimp to fill me up and it was just ok. The shrimp itself was bland but came with a gochujang aioli which was tasty. I'd like to see the shrimp marinated in maybe gochujang, honey and soy sauce mix prior to frying or maybe season the batter with dill and lemon set, something to impart flavor. Overall: The experience felt short of my expectations from a food perspective. Maybe I ordered the "wrong" dishes maybe if I had the short ribs or pork belly I would have felt different, idk. My two highlights of the night; service and scallops.
Solid food, service, and ambience. Four of us came to dinner and tried a bunch of items. We enjoyed everything but the short rib entrée and rock shrimp appetizer really stood out. The new dessert (chocomisu) was delicious. It's a casual restaurant, but in an upscale sort of way. A BYO. Fried Rock shrimp: was served with 2 aiolis. One was a gochujang, the other wasabi. We all commented that they weren't too spicy and we liked that. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the aïoli's were phenomenal. Definitely order this. Whole table loved it. Short rib: was a real pleasure. It sat on a carrot purée and had little pieces of diced potato in it. The short rib was succulent, tender and wasn't fatty. So amazing. Definitely order this. The whole table loved it. I'll get this again. Chocmisu: not on the menu but will be added. It's their spin on tiramisu. Think mallomar, mascarpone filling and a gold glitter. Sooo good. We loved it. The cheesecake with blueberry: my friend didn't share but at the whole thing and said it was delicious. Espresso with panna: the panna has some spice in it and was scrumptious. Kimchi bulgogi: very, very tasty but not a stand out. Japchae noodles: we opted for vegetarian, but you could get a protein with it. It was very tasty. Our take: we'd come again. Portions are small and prices a bit high for what you get but the food is solid. Service is excellent and inviting. It's an intimate space but might be a touch loud for some. Desserts seemed overpriced and not sized for sharing but still, I'd order dessert. It was good. Be prepared to order an app, entree and dessert per person. We were stuffed but agreed you needed all the courses to feel that way. Parking on street is free after 4 pm. I'd come back.
Amazing place for brunch. Every single dish was spectacular and would absolutely recommend coming here. Came here for a friend's birthday. We didn't know what to expect coming in but we were absolutely floored with how good everything was. Every dish was great but the best dish by far was the octopus. Octopus is easy to mess up but this one was tender, flavorful, and stood above the other dishes. They oysters were solid. The salad and the vegetable fritter were much better and larger than we had expected. The Benedict, which was great in its own right, was the least favorite dish if I had to choose, but I would have been happy getting any of them. The service was also very noteworthy- they were quick, attentive, and very friendly. I would absolutely recommend coming here for a brunch and I will absolutely be back
Bloom in Verona was a wonderful choice to celebrate an early birthday brunch with a group of 6. We had reservations and everything was set up for our arrival. The place is BYOB so we enjoyed mimosas all morning. The staff is amazing. Our waitress was super attentive and even offered to take pics of the groups. The entire group was pleased with the food: Challah bread french toast, Monte Cristo, Eggs Benedict (with salmon / or ham), and Bubble Waffle were some of the dishes ordered. My only complaint would be the lack of sides for some of the entrees. My order was the Classic Egg Benedict and there was no side of home fries or a mixed salad included like you would get at other places. Thankfully everyone else shared some of their dishes, otherwise you would be feeling hungry. The other area that fell short for us were the dessert choices. We left most of it behind. I'm interested in returning for the dinner dishes! Thank you, Bloom for hosting us :)
I came by for Sunday brunch a few years ago with a chum and definitely enjoyed it, so I was pretty pleased when I recently received an invite to a baby brunch at Bloom. Depending on your perspective, Bloom is either intimate or almost bordering on claustrophobic - it's a VERY small dining space. During normal business hours, they can't fit more than maybe five tables in there, and for this private event, they squeezed in one larger, long table to accommodate about 10 to 15 people. It's small. I remember thinking when I came here for brunch that it was reminiscent of an NYC establishment, both in terms of interior decoration and limited space. I really don't know how you'd fix that beyond tearing down the low wall that separates the entrance walkway from the dining area, but it is what it is. The baby brunch was held this past Saturday, and to their credit, you could tell Bloom had experience hosting events like this. There was probably two or three servers who were always nearby though not oppressively so, and one woman managing them who popped in from time to time for any minor troubleshooting. I got the impression that they didn't have a ton of help in the kitchen, which resulted in VERY minor delays with bringing out all of the food at the same time, so that meant that, say, after the first person was served with an entrée, the last person was served with one about five minutes later. Not egregious though. Everyone I interacted with there was very pleasant and professional. Truly befitting a mom-to-be, Bloom boasts a pretty impressive mocktail list (they also had a rose prosecco on hand, but I think that was from the party organizers, not Bloom itself). They actually brought out samples of each mocktail for the guest of honor to try, and by virtue of my seat right next to her, I was able to take a nip of most of them. My favorite by far was the butterfly pea margarita - great presentation and very tasty. Definitely on the sweeter side (one or two other guests were more tepid on it as a result, which meant I got to pretty much take ownership of them). The only one that I wasn't crazy about was the pomegranate Moscow mule, which I thought tasted like a leather suitcase (maybe the combo of ginger beer and something tart? Not sure.) The food is very solid, which I definitely remembered from my prior visit. There's a strong Korean influence throughout, but if you're not crazy about that particular genre there's more than enough options to tap dance around it. We actually got personal samples of all of the brunch apps except for the octopus, which was a nice touch. My personal favorite surprisingly was the kale salad; I think the miso dressing kind of gave it a subtle sushi flavoring vibe, which I was into. A close second was the rock shrimp, which was probably the most mainstream option in many regards, but still excellent. I can always get down with wasabi aioli. For the entrée, I opted for the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon. It was a LITTLE tough to cut up (the muffin or whatever bread was underneath seemed a bit overcooked, and a sharper knife would have helped considerably) but it was still very tasty and a solid portion and presentation. I'm not sure how I ended up eating dessert as well, but we each also got a thin slice of cheesecake with blueberry compote. The bottom crust was a little thick but otherwise this was a great palate cleanser to wrap up the meal. Definitely a cut above a lot of the restaurants along Bloomfield (which could obviously apply to a few towns). I wouldn't come during as busy time, but the quality isn't debatable.
I have been looking for a great local find, and let me tell you Bloom is it. The restaurant is beautiful and perfect for date, grabbing brunch with friends, or even an event. I had the Butternut Squash Soup which was delicious. It is rich and heavy, and honestly, could be my entire lunch. I ended up taking half of it home. There was a flavor in the soup I couldn't identify, and consistency was thicker than I'm used to, but the taste was pleasant. I also had the Bulgogi with Kimchi Fried Rice which is a nice sized portion and delicious. This is one of their most popular dishes and I can see why. The rice wasn't spicy for me, but the person I was with found it a bit spicy. We also got the Short Rib, which was for me the highlight and the stole the show. This might be one of the best short ribs I have ever had. The meat is tender and falls apart on your fork. The carrot puree is so scrumptious, the person I went with said that despite carrots being their least favorite vegetable they loved this dish. I would love to try this with the Korean Style Flat Noodle next time and will when I go back. We finished the meal with the Tiramisu which was recommended by our waitress. It was excellent. The food here is good quality, the atmosphere exquisite, and the service was imbecile. Our waitress wrapped up our leftovers and brought everything out at the end of our meal in one bag which I appreciated. She readily provided recommendations and checked on us throughout the meal. I did make a reservation, but there were a few available tables on a Tuesday night. I do suggest making a reservation ahead of time to be sure. They also do run out of things, for instance, I was planning to go on Sunday night, but they ran out of the Short Rib. I look forward to checking out their brunch and some other items on the menu. I will say that the food is priced for the size and quality. I highly recommend this find!

We were quickly seated. The inside is nice and clean. We wanted to sit outside. They gave a few different bubbles that sear about 6 each. They also have a canopy that has a couple of tables. The hostess was very nice. The waitress was also very nice, she was the same person as the hostess. The chef was on a break outside and he started a conversation with us. He was energetic and passionate about the menu. He said the chicken wings were a must. He said his favorite dish is the pork belly. He said the bulgogi kimchee rice is great if you are hungry. He also recommended the short rib. We decided to order the chicken wings to start. We ordered the soy garlic and the salt & pepper. They were delicious. My wife enjoyed both. While I enjoyed both as well, my favorite was the soy garlic. The best wings I've had in Jersey. Definitely a must try. If I'm taking it to go, I'd probably try to ask for the dressing on the side. Even though, we took our time and they all stayed crunchy. It was amazing to have a crunchy wing without the excessive breading. They really put some love in these wings. I ordered the bulgogi and kimchee rice. It was very tasty and a great portion size. The kimchee rice had a nice level of spice. My wife can't eat super spicy food, and she was loved the rice. The egg was over easy. Which is my preference, it just happened to be served the way I prefer. If you don't like runny eggs, let them know. The bulgogi tastes great when you eat it with the rice. A very tasty combo. My wife ordered the pork belly. It was extremely tasty and a well thought plating. The jalapeño miso puree was delicious. The pork belly came with about twice as much meat as what we are accustomed, so we were pleasantly surprised. The chef had also recommended the kale salad. It was lightly dressed with a subtle and tasty dressing that was very refreshing. There was quinoa and dried items in there as well. It was a basically a superfood app. We were very happy with the treat! It also came with what I believe a pickled melon, as a palette cleanser, fancy! My wife ordered the tiramisu. It was tasty and a nice way to finish the meal. The chef came out to check on whether we liked the food, after every course. He just did a thumbs up and we did a thumbs up, and we were all happy. I had leftovers. I never have enough food, but the portions here are fantastic. And the food quality is very high. Everything was plated beautifully. The staff was lovely and thoughtful. If I lived closer, I'd be here all the time. But I'll definitely try to come back at least once a month. And I'm bringing all my friends when they visit town. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Honestly, I've leaned towards extra stars because of the coronavirus. But this place deserves every last 5 star review they will no doubt get. Next time I visit, I want to try the Monster Chicken Sandwich. And after that, I'll probably try the other menu items. This seems like a place that you need to try everything.
I have been here three times and here are a few things to share- 1. The service is always excellent. Tonight they went above and beyond and customized my dessert so I could eat it and it was the server's idea to ask! 2. Their mussels are other- worldly delicious. Come here for the mussels alone! 3.I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and the Sun choke purée and lentils complemented everything so well. 4. My boyfriend had a steak dish that he adored. 5. They have outdoor dining and indoor. 6. You must make a reservation- it's just easier and prevents issues. This is has become one of my favorite restaurants in a short period of time. The flavors and creativity are on point! read more
Bloom gets 2 stars because had it gone about serving the meal a different way, I would have probably given it 4. However, there were a few glaring errors that I can't overlook. To start, two servers asked me where I'd like to sit. The same two servers took my orders; one took my drink and soup order, the second took my app and entree order. My coffee came out right away, which was fine but nothing to write home about. About 25 minutes went by, and my appetizer and main came out at once, brought by the server who took my food order. When I asked where my soup was she said "oh you ordered a soup?" asked which soup, and then asked, "so should I bring that out?" yes. I ordered it, so I ideally yes, it should come out. So my appetizer and entree came out at once, then my soup came last. Because the app and main came out at the same time, I had to eat both simultaneously so the food would not get cold (spoiler: it did). The crispy crab ball was good, but not very special, and the presentation was lacking. I would not reorder. The bulgogi cheese sandwich was pretty good. The bulgogi itself was delicious and so was the kimchi, but the bun was just greasy and the fries were glistening with oil and very frozen fry-like. The wild mushroom soup was the one truly redeeming dish, and was absolutely beautiful in presentation. It was perfectly rich and almost mousse-like, and had such a simple and unpretentious mushroom flavor. It was one of the best soups I've had in NJ and I would come back for it. The mushrooms on top were certainly not "crispy," but still delicious. Overall, the restaurant struck me as sort of confusing. The soup was something I'd find in a fine dining restaurant, but the frozen fries were something I'd find in a diner. The soup was beautifully presented while the sandwich and crab balls were lackluster. The service was disorganized and uncommunicative and also extremely slow (the girls just would not take my check when it was ready). I think with a few simple adjustments, better service/organization and bringing out the food in the order that's expected, Bloom would be a much more enjoyable experience. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Bloom on a Tuesday evening around 7:35pm and it was pretty quiet except for another table when we got there. We placed a reservation through yelp anyway just to be safe. Their outdoor dining is very cute and located in the parking lot behind their restaurant, with two tents and cute lights and succulents on the tables. We ordered the spicy pork tacos for starters, and the kimchi fried rice with bulgogi and the short ribs as mains. The food was really good, albeit a bit pricey but it makes for a nice occasional date night with some nicely plated and tasty food. The kimchi fried rice was definitely a good portion, but the short ribs, although really tender and yummy, is a pretty small portion so be cautioned you may need another appetizer or to share the fried rice/another dish (which we did). I guess the short ribs portion size was the only big disappointment considering it was a dollar more or less than the kimchi fried rice. All in all, I had a good experience at Bloom during the pandemic and I recommend more people to try it out and support!! The chef came out at the end to make sure everything went well, and he was very nice and thanked us for coming. Service and atmosphere are excellent. We had corn soup which is maybe in the top 3 best things I've eaten in my life, I would come here just for that. The Korean chicken wings soy garlic flavor were excellent and have lots of meat and flavor. I also tried the strawberry kiss mocktail which was lovely though I feel over priced considering there isn't any alcohol in it. We also ordered entrees (pork belly and kimchi lobster risotto) though they were not as tasty as the apps. I would 1000% recommend this restaurant to everyone and if I were to go back I'd stick with just ordering the appetizers. read more

A restaurant that specializes in French, American, and Korean cuisine and a High Yelp rating and snagged a reservation on a Saturday night? Bloom was a must try for us. Bloom is a very pretty space and very contemporary and modern. The entire staff were very helpful, pleasant and friendly. What we ordered: Organic Kale Salad - Kale, Quinoa, Garlic Chip, Miso dressing- This was an excellent dish and the dressing was outstanding. Octopus - Grilled Spanish Octopus, Salsa Verde, Quinoa and Cauliflower Puree. This was a beautiful dish and all the flavors were crazy good. Crispy Monkfish with Saffron Risotto - This was very good and with a very nice crispy crust. Duck Confit - The flavors and taste was excellent. We would have liked the skin a little crispier but no complaints. Lamb Shank - The lamb fell off the bone and was tender and just delicious. For dessert we had waffle with homemade Italian gelato. We were very impressed with the taste, creativity, and presentation of the dishes we tried. All of the plating screamed fine dining. The two appetizers we had were 5 stars. The entrees a solid 4 stars. Bloom is BYOB. Expect to pay around $40-$50 per person. 4.5 stars for Bloom and great for special occasions. read more

Roasted Chicken. Reminds me of Thanksgiving but, WAY better . This was soooo good. I recommend this place to everyone. I can't express how nice the workers and chefs are absolutely wonderful! Expertly prepared cuisine in a modern and striking space. We came as a group and sat at the chef's counter for our reserved time. We were greeted and had our wine opened and the appropriate glasses brought out. We quickly settled on some appetizers and placed our order. I opted for the steak tartar which was amazing and had a slight Asian flair to it with spicy kimchi added to the standard dressing that it would normally come with. I also managed to snag a bit of my friend's jamon which was perfect and the wife's octopus which was grilled to perfection. There was also some tempura shishitos that we all shared that were lightly sauced, sweet and tangy, without making them soggy. For my entrée I went with the duck confit that came with roasted potatoes and a blueberry reduction. The duck was cooked perfectly with a crisp skin and tender thigh that melted in your mouth. The sauce was just the right hint of sweet and the potatoes were slightly crisp but still tender. I normally don't do dessert but I decided I'd try their take on affagato which came out as a frozen preparation which I was not expecting but enjoyed very much. I did share and everyone felt this was the best dessert. The owner came over a few tines to check on us which was a nice touch as the service was very good prior to her inquiring. The prices, for the high quality and preparation, were very good and I'd certainly come back and try some additional dishes. read more

Better to make a reservation, this place def lives up on all the good reviews! Started with the corn soup - seasonal and so good! BYOB but don't worry there's a liquor store across the street! I got a refreshing slushy drink tho and it did not disappoint. Mussels were so good esp the bread! I came especially for the bone marrow and the combo with Kim chi was uniquely delicious! The watermelon salad was both beautiful and tasty. Can't wait to go back and so glad it's so close to us! read more
Grabbed a quick dinner with a friend on a Thursday night. Had a reservation but it wasn't necessary since it wasn't that busy. We were given the option to sit outside in the clear, plastic domes, so we could not pass up the opportunity since the weather hasn't been too cold! Also, each dome has its own personal heater that you can adjust the setting to. We also saw parking in the back of the restaurant where the domes are located but street parking nearby also is available. We started off with the octopus to share. This was the first time I had octopus and I thought it had the consistency of mozzarella. The octopus was cooked to perfection with a crispier end tentacle. The creamy cauliflower puree paired perfectly with it. A sizeable appetizer for two! For the main course, I had the short rib which was known to be a favorite here. My friend had the bulgogi with kimchi fried rice. The short rib was a decent portion size, but I thought the sauce was a little too sweet. Nevertheless, it balanced out nicely with the garnish of the crispy potato, carrot slices, and carrot puree. Wish they added a little more crispy potatoes though. The bulgogi with kimchi fried rice was also delicious with a runny sunny side egg and a tolerable amount of spice from the kimchi. A big enough portion for two! Delicious food in an igloo atmosphere. Will return again to try other dishes! read more
What a find! This tiny contemporary designed space used to be a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant called Zaffron. It closed without much explanation or fanfare but in its place is a much needed modern American eatery with heavy Korean/French influence courtesy of two CIA graduate chefs! This stretch of Bloomfield Ave is lacking in more upscale dining options. It's been open for four months and we recently dined there on a Friday night. The service is charming and polished. They aim to please, are on point with recommendations and they all seem to be very enthusiastic about working at Bloom. We started with the Korean style chicken wings two ways: salt and pepper/Asian soy based sauce. The crunchy texture of the wings was truly spectacular. These are not your cluck U wings I promise... they're way better. We couldn't decide which flavor we liked more. Our friends ordered the very popular Bulgogi entree which is a Korean steak dish. Very yummy and quite a sizable portion. It can probably be shared by two people. I was disappointed to hear that the scallop entree was sold out. I opted for the bloom seasonal salad and the octopus appetizer as my main meal. Both were bursting with flavor and super yummy. They also obliged my request to serve a side of sautéed Swiss chard which was listed as an accompaniment for a different entree. The greens were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The real stars of the show were the pork belly entree and the Shishito peppers. The pork belly is a handsome duo of meat that oozed with taste... it was really about 20% fat and 80% pork meat.... done with perfect texture. The peppers are fried but the batter just kind of flakes off and leaves you with a wonderful pepper with tons of flavor. Like many local places, it is BYO and the server was great keeping up with filling the glasses throughout dinner. They offered dessert but we were stuffed to the gills. Interesting to note that the prices are so reasonable for such great food. We perused their weekend brunch menu and vowed to come back in the colder weather for a Sunday morning indulgence. Put this newbie on your list. Once the secret is out, it will be hard to get into. read more

Another visit to Bloom (literally my 3rd time this month). So happy this place is in the neighborhood. The team and the owners are great. I can't wait to go back to try more! It's official, Bloom is my new favorite restaurant in the area, hands down!! The family and I luckily stumbled by Bloom on a Sunday afternoon a week after they opened when all the regular spots we tried to were closed. It's right down the street from Grimaldi's. Inside Bloom, it has a nicely lite open dining area, bright colorful, floral prints on one wall and on the other a modern look with their name, just an overall really nice clean atmosphere. The staff themselves were very friendly and accommodating, allowing us to sit and order minutes prior to closing for lunch. As for the food, that's the real reason why Bloom shoots to the top of my list. A fusion of some of my favorite cuisines, while the chef chooses healthy/cleaner options, makes it so easy for me to give a 5* review. Here's what we ordered: - chicken wings (1/2 salt and pepper, 1/2 soy) - man, these wings were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and super juicy on the inside. - bulgogi cheese sandwich - I've tried many of these over the years at different restaurants since being introduced to them at Craverie in JC when they first opened and until now, never found one that compares to the original. Bloom has Craverie's beaten as far as I'm concerned. Not as heavy feeling with better ingredients won me over. The shoestring fries and red cabbage slaw on the side were nice as well. - kid's cheeseburger/hamburger meal - great as well! I might end up eating my daughter's left overs later on, lol. Same shoestring fries on the side! - Bloom salad w/ crispy salmon - whoa, great salad! Nice and airy, fruit accompaniment with the dressing and salmon just work well together Nice combo chef! So why ask 5 stars....sure here's why: - Decor is modern, clean, and so cozy - Presentation of food is picture ready - Staff is excellent.... our waitress was great and Chef Wu (owner) came out to greet us. Talked to us for a few about his experience in culinary...so friendly! - Menu options made me drool (lunch and dinner) - Food was excellent - Most importantly our kids LOVED IT... and I quote "Mom and Dad I want to come back here for my birthday... the burger and fries are awesome!" Lol So I ordered the 6 chicken wings (both flavors) they were nice enough to split so we can try both. The wings had this perfect crisp... I really liked the salt/pepper wings...it was sooooo good. The soy sauce reminded me of boom boom/bon chon chicken but Bloom was so much better! The crispy organic salmon with sesame dressing was so freakin tasty. I can't wait to go back! The kids burgers were fresh and so tasty.... it came with a spread of turmeric aioli.... it was different... my daughter wasn't a fan of it and the chef was so nice to make another plain burger for her and she ate it all. It's no secret at this point that I have a thing for fusion places, especially Asian fusion. Bloom had really piqued my interest for a while now and I finally got to try it last night! The concept of French Korean fusion is not one that you would see pretty often, so I was really interested to see how they would make this work. First of all, I've got to say that the ambiance of this restaurant is definitely really cute and comforting. I love the decor and they've definitely done a great job in terms of being able to still operate during the pandemic. There are a few tables available indoors and they also have three really cute igloos set up outside if you prefer that. Reservations are super easy to make on Yelp or by calling. The staff is super friendly and attentive, constantly checking in on us! We started out with the Escargot and Soy Garlic Crispy Chicken Wings. The wings are great, very typical Korean Fried Chicken texture and flavors with of course, a side of pickled radish. The Escargot is expertly prepared and not chewy at all, full of flavor and a great texture! For my main course, I had the Pork Belly which was very tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. I like the addition of the apples and couscous as a pairing for it. We also ordered a side of Korean Style Poutine to share. It's a pretty large dish so I would say that it could be a side for at least four people on its own. I think this poutine is more along the lines of loaded chili fries rather than poutine in that it's missing the gravy and cheese curds aspects that I personally find to be crucial to poutine. However, I definitely love the fact that it has kimchi in it! From the perspective of a French restaurant, I would say that the portion sizes here are definitely more generous than what you would find at a typical French restaurant. The only thing I'm missing is seeing the true fusion between the French and the Korean. I kind of see it being more that you can order either French or Korean food. Not that that's a bad thing but I was really hoping for more fusion concepts. I guess that the addition of kimchi in many of the dishes is what really incorporates the fusion aspect, if I had to guess. read more

We visited Bloom right when it opened on a Saturday morning and we loved the quiet, clean, and serene ambience and interior. The wood accents that are custom-made for the space were pleasing to the eye. There is a municipal parking lot in the back of the restaurant that is free on weekends! The bathroom was also exceptionally clean and modern and I loved how they installed an air purifier in the space. The little touches that show care for the customers are so nice. Now, for the food... My husband and I got 4 dishes to share for brunch and this is the order in which we liked them: 1. Truffle Mac n Cheese - There was a reason I noticed so many people had ordered this dish, according to Yelp. This was SO delicious and decadent. They will ask if you would like to have bacon in the dish or not; you should get it. 2. Rock shrimp - The tempura was fresh, crisp, and clean tasting. The two sauces (a gochuchang-tasting red sauce and a sweet wasabi sauce) were both great complements to the shrimp. Would order again for sure. 3. Bulgogi Taco - This was savory and filling but not mind-blowing if you tend to eat bulgogi regularly. The filling was wrapped by a corn tortilla but I felt like a flour tortilla may have been a better pairing. 4. Waffle - I was really looking forward to this dish and it was tasty but disappointing. I was looking forward to a crispy waffle but it was very soggy. Next time, I'll probably order the pancakes instead. Overall, we loved our experience dining here and would visit again. Went here for the first time last night and I could not have had a better experience. The staff was very friendly from the moment I arrived and sat me at the bar. My server was happy to give recommendations so I ordered the Butternut Squash soup for my appetizer and Bulgogi with Kimchi Fried Rice for my entree. First, the butternut squash soup is one of the best I've ever had. It was wonderfully creamy and felt like a warm hug on what was a very cold day. The Bulgogi portion was huge (leftovers!) and it was also delicious. The kimchi fried rice usually comes spicy but my server assured me that it could be prepared to be less spicy so I took a chance and the fried rice had the perfect amount of spice. Mouth warming but still flavorful. For dessert, I ordered the crème brûlée and, not surprisingly, it was excellent. The top was cooked perfectly. Cannot say enough good things about the staff, food and service. This is how dining should be done. read more

Came here for an early dinner on a Friday. The good: They were able to accommodate us for last minute outdoor reservations. The service was good and the chef came out to greet us. All of the food we ordered was tasty: Mac n Cheese Beef with kimchi fried rice Pork with veggie fried rice Octopus Clam chowder The so-so: They didn't have the dish that I wanted They are pretty strict about their 90 minute seating limit (I'll be honest and admit we were late to our reservation). Final verdict: Would go back when it gets warmer. read more

What a gem of a place! Reservations recommended. Appetizers - octopus, Korean poutine, and the salt and pepper chicken wings were great Entree - scallops with mushroom risotto were phenomenal. The fried mushrooms were clutch and the scallops were cooked perfectly Dessert - cheesecake with blueberry compote was a letdown. I make a better cheesecake. Should have gone with the creme brûlée as others recommended. Will definitely return to try other things!! read more

Salmon is the only dish that seemed fresh. Even that was a little fishy. Pork belly- rock hard. Not tender at all. Octopus - that wasn't tender at all. I couldn't even bite into it. Came on a Tuesday. I came last Tuesday and I felt it was more fresh last time. Hit or miss. Yelp reviews don't mean much when you ordered rubbery octopus. read more

My husband and I had brunch here to celebrate his birthday. The ambiance is so lovely. I started with the rock shrimp and my husband started with the beef carpaccio. I loved the wasabi dipping sauce that came with the shrimp, and they were perfectly cooked. My husband loved the flavors of the sauce that accompanied the beef. For brunch entrees, I had the croque monsieur (pictured) and my husband had the waffle with the addition of chicken. Portions were big enough to keep you full, but not uncomfortably full. I finished the meal with a peach fresh, which is a non-alcoholic beverage made with house made peach jam, seltzer, and lemon zest; it was phenomenal. Along with the quality of the food, the service was so nice. The waitstaff were attentive but also gave us space, and were incredibly friendly. In a town with great meals, this was amazing. Short rib was tender and delicate, purée was smooth and perfect, and umami all the way. What can I say? If you're looking for fine dining in Montclair or Cerona, this is where you should come. Be forewarned-portions are more French: small & rich. If you're looking for big heaping plates don't get the short rib. The bulgogi looked larger. read more

Glob of butter on the kimchi lobster rice was overkill and made it really difficult to eat. The server was quite pleasant but hostess had such a condescending predisposition. Pushy for drinks and appetizers even though we kindly declined. Not coming but I'm sure the ambiance will keep the restaurant plenty busy nonetheless so take the feedback with a grain of salt read more

Oh bloom. I was so so excited to try this place out when it opened but have to admit I was let down. The restaurant is very nice! Trendy and fresh and open and clean. Limited tables and also bar seating available. I believe they have an outdoor area in the back but didn't see it. The host and server were friendly. I would recommend a reservation as we tried coming before without one and couldn't get seated. The menu is extensive but the food was just not it. We had the garlic bread, beet salad, shrimp, lobster risotto, fried rice, and pork belly. Honestly the beet salad was the best thing we had. The food was very oily and was missing something that I just can't put my finger on. Some type of seasoning or something. The food wasn't bad, but not something I would come back for. If you're from the area and haven't been, I would check it out. But Unfortunately it was a one and done for me. read more

I went to Bloom this past weekend and was highly impressed with the quality of food and service! We made a reservation for one of their outdoor igloos and I was surprised by how warm the igloo stayed (no jackets needed!). We were able to fit 4 people in our igloo and I think at max they could fit about 5 people. We ordered the bulgogi, pork belly, and monster chicken sandwich. Everything was fantastic and for an upscale restaurant, I thought the portions were very fair. My favorite was probably the bulgogi as the meat was cooked perfectly and the rice had so much flavor (however it was spicy so I don't recommend this for those who aren't a fan of spice). The chicken sandwich was truly a "monster" just as it is named and came with a huge side of fries, enough to split with the table. The restaurant is also BYOB and will open any bottle of wine you bring! Overall I would definitely recommend Bloom for a nice dinner. The prices of the meals were very fair for the quality of the food, and our server was extremely attentive! read more

I almost cried tasting the Corn soup. The service was great, and we were brought a free Kale salad to compensate for a short wait (which was a pleasant wait)! The setting was quiet, warm and modern. I would drive two states again to taste the Corn soup. read more
Excellent restaurant at a reasonable price. I'd call it: French-Korean fusion. Strongly recommend the mushroom soup, chicken wings, and (especially) the pork belly. The bone marrow is good, but forgettable. I have had better bone marrow so I wouldn't get it again and I probably wouldn't recommend it. If you're lucky, by the end of the meal chef Woo will come great you. The cheesecake they had for dessert was pretty standard cheesecake, not amazing but not bad either. We were going to try the beet appetizer but the chef said the beets were not up to par and thus wasn't serving them. The fact that he would not serve a dish with a veggie that isn't up to par is very telling to the level of care and attentiveness. The pork belly was the star of the show, perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a rich layer of juicy fat. Execution: perfect. read more

We've never used the igloos, but I can't imagine they would let you freeze to death in there. On the other hand, it's just a small room -- no real difference from a nice, warm, partitioned table inside. So I would go for indoor dining, personally.
