I'm not usually a brunch person, but The Saint Clair has completely changed that! This adorable spot is conveniently located near the parking lot, making it super easy to get to. The staff is fantastic, friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming, but the real star is the food. To start, we shared the Buttermilk Biscuit, Duck Fat Tater Tots, and the Beet & Citrus Salad. That salad... I'm still dreaming about it. The biscuit was equally delicious and will definitely be my go to from now on. The tater tots, while okay, lacked a bit of flavor. It did pair as well with the salad, but lone was lacking something. For the entree, I had the Breakfast Sandwich and also got a taste of the Brunch Tostada. Both were incredible, but the sandwich stole the show for me. The biscuit is absolutely top tier, and the chorizo sausage patty was perfectly spiced not too hot, just the right kick and paired beautifully with the rest of the sandwich. And the lattes? Following the success of Morristown's South+Pine, Gaccione has brought an elevated BYOB experience to Montclair that pairs an innovative seasonal menu with a sophisticated, gothic-inspired ambiance. After a movie at The Claridge on a recent Saturday night, we stopped into The Saint Clair for dinner without a reservation. Even though the place was packed and buzzing, the hostess was super accommodating and managed to find us two seats at the bar right away. The first floor feels decidedly upscale. The signature vaulted arches are reminiscent of a gothic cathedral -- a stunning design choice, though one that occasionally amplifies the room's chatter rather than dampening it. Sitting at the small bar offers a front-row seat to the kitchen "pass," where you can watch the culinary team create and plate their creations. We started by sharing the Fall Harvest Salad ($18). It's a generous and very shareable portion of arugula, delicata squash, salumi, Brussels sprouts, and pumpkin seeds topped with just a kiss of light vinaigrette dressing. While the ingredients were obviously very fresh and seasonal flavors were bright, the raw, sliced Brussels sprouts felt slightly out of place against the other textures and tastes. The star of the show, however, was the Dry-Aged Beef Burger ($29), served on a pretzel roll and topped with sautéed Vidalia onions and truffle aioli. The half-pound patty was perfectly cooked and easily one of the best burgers we've had in years. It is worth every penny. So, why not five stars? While the food is stellar, the ambiance is unique in the area, and the staff is friendly, the kitchen struggled with the Saturday night volume. From our vantage point perched just outside the kitchen, we saw servers hovering at the pass waiting for long-delayed plates. It took nearly an hour for our burgers to arrive, and the table turnover seemed to stall. Hopefully, The Saint Clair is able to address these issues as the staff develops more experience. Five stars for the food and the ambiance, but deducting a star for the service issues. 09/30/2025 I believe Lea Gascone's new restaurant is going to be a hit. The decor is really cool and the service was very attentive. We've enjoyed Lea's South & Pine restaurant in Morristown several times and always enjoyed our meals, so we had to give Saint Claire a try. My wife had the roast chicken (w/ Schmaltz croutons, Frisee, pine nuts, golden raisons and sherry jus. The chicken was tender and juicy, something not often found when ordering chicken. The frisee was a tasty and provided a nice light alternative to potatoes or rice. I had the (medium rare) Dry Aged burger (five hour Vidalia onion, Cooper's sharp cheddar and truffle aioli.) Done perfectly and so very tasty with the '5 hour onions'... SOO good! We also tried the crispy kale, which was a little disappointing since it wasn't that crispy, but not enough to keep us from visiting Lea again. It is a BYO, so come prepared! read more

Though a new place in the area (having opened summer of 2025), I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. The food provides a flavorful twist on American cuisine like cornbread and tater tots. Though appetizers are a bit on smaller side, the entrees are filling. Place is BYOB. We were seated on the first floor near the main entrance and though it wasn't too loud or busy on a weeknight, the acoustics were not ideal for a large group of 7 people. There is an upstairs that seemed to be quieter and more dim. Staff were great and attentive, topping us off as needed with water and our wine. We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday and had the most wonderful experience! We had a reservation and were seated right away -- the process was so easy. The hostess and our waitress were absolutely lovely, and even the manager stopped by mid-meal to make sure we were happy and well taken care of. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with thoughtful details, great lighting, and a warm ambience that made the evening feel special. It's also BYOB (with a wine shop conveniently right next door), but I have to call out the incredible mocktails too. I had the Caroline Cooler and it was delicious -- refreshing and creative. For food, my sister and I started with the Saint Clair salad, which was outstanding. The grilled figs made it unforgettable. For entrées, I had the roasted chicken and my sister had the salmon -- both were beautifully cooked and full of flavor. The menu also featured a lovely array of desserts. I finally got the chance to try this place and I'm so happy I did. A contemporary American restaurant was exactly that what I was looking for and exactly what I got. The interior space is very, very nice. There is a lot of seating and there are two floors in the restaurant. I sat on the upper floor where it was spacious. So for the meal to start off, I got the Caesar salad. I thought that the salad was OK not bad but definitely nothing exceptional I also got as an appetizer the cornbread, which was better. It wasn't overly sweet and the sweet-and-sour mix complimented each other very well very good cornbread for my entrée I got a burger, which was a very good burger. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here. I'm not too sure whether I would go back because I don't think that there's anything that I ordered that was exceptional. A new place opened up in Montclair. Many people were excited so we gave it a go. We started with the duck fat tater tots with the Caesar salad. Both were ok. My wife ordered the roasted chicken i ordered the crispy graffiti eggplant. The food was average and so was the service. There are two floors. Upstairs is where we were seated. Told her I liked it gingery and she delivered. Ordered the Avocado toast & buttermilk biscuit & both hit the spot. Was actually quite filling for just two appetizers. The blackberry jam and butter paired well with the warm biscuit. The avocado toast was loaded with tomatoes, onions, a slab of tofu crusted fried eggplant & a basil pesto sauce. The flavors did not disappoint and as much as I wish I had space for dessert, I was stuffed and satisfied. Got kids? They have some really nice kid menu options. Upstairs I was told is the devilish, sexy red room decor and downstairs is the angel vibe. So be sure to mention upstairs, downstairs or outdoor when you book. The Saint Clair was a pretty confusing experience overall. I had a reservation for two. When I was first to be seated, it was at a tiny cocktail table next to the window -- not enough room for food and an app, and with both chairs angled towards the window. Servers were accommodating and changed my seat to a normal one upstairs. But generally, there was a crowd at the front and a sense of disorder. Our server was fantastic, extremely friendly and personable. But the food and ambience is where things got dicey. Our mocktails, the carol's sweet cooler and the pineapple one were both fantastic. For apps, we got the cast iron corn bread and lump crab salad. The crab salad was the star, served along a zucchini fritter and a creamy sauce, it was light clean but creamy and was extremely balanced. The corn bread was good! I don't have any complaints but I also wasn't Star-struck. Then it took absolutely AGES for the entrees to come out. As we waited, tables around us got drunk on their many bottles of BYOB wine and it got incredibly loud and felt like a bar. For entrees, I ordered the burger with sweet potato fries and my friend got the monkfish. We shared a side of the lemony kale. My friend really enjoyed her entree, but I requested my burger at medium and it was medium rare verging on rare when I received it. Some of the sweet potato fries were a touch undercooked. The kale was tough. Now the burger was very tasty, though the cheddar was a touch strong. I still really liked it. My friend insisted to bring up the cooking of burger to my server because it really was too rare for comfort, who was extremely sweet and understanding. She brought her manager so she could reach a resolution. Right off the bat, the manager seemed extremely angry with us. She insisted she would cook the burger more even though I said I was fine until I finally said okay. She overall had this really aggressive and intimidating demeanor that left us really surprised. Ultimately the manager above her removed the burger off our bill. We really didn't ask for that or expect that and it was really odd the way it all happened. Anywayyyy for dessert we got the bramble berry tart and two decaf toasted marshmallow cappuccino. Capps did not taste like anything other than coffee and milk. Great addition to Montclair on Church St. On a whim we decided to try this newest addition to the Montclair dining scene. Walking in you feel like you are entering a French Brasserie in Paris. Nicely appointed and well lit venue and given the nice weather they had outdoor tables on the sidewalk. Promptly seated without a reservation and the waitress was very attentive. We ordered the cornbread appetizer, roast chicken entree, flank steak and fries with a side of sweet potato fries. Food was tasty, presented well and decent portions. I tried it out on opening night while celebrating a tremendous life milestone anniversary and was not disappointed. The staff amazing and my server (Alisa the Syracuse pre-med student) was simply amazing and very attentive. Steve the owner held several conversations with me and was also very attentive. The night came to an end with the Chef (Leia) gracing me with an appearance. Josh the manager graced me with two of their signature mocktails and was also very nice. It was very cold outside, as well as inside this restaurant in January. Dress warmly and make sure you have a coat you may need to keep it on when inside their dining room. Not a great dining atmosphere temperature wise. Food was just ok, a bit expensive lots of add on fees, i.e. sharing, paying with credit card. As usual when reserving--restaurant forces an early or late dinner. We selected an early time, there were two tables seated when we arrived for dinner, one hour after we arrived there were still tables available. Took my wife out for New Year's dinner and, unfortunately, the experience fell short. There was no coat check, and guests were expected to drape or fold their coats even though they dragged on the floor. To his credit, the manager was kind enough to store our coats downstairs, which we appreciated. Still, it's hard to understand how a restaurant operates in winter without a coat check. During our dinner, I also had several waiters bump into my side, so they're layout space planning was poor. Why is staff bumping into guest while their eating? To add to that, my wife's champagne was served in a chipped glass, and overall the attention to detail and food presentation was lacking. These small but important touches matter, and because of them, I don't see us returning. It's disappointing I wanted to enjoy and support this place. If you're going charge closer to premium pricing make sure the services matches. read more

Church Street dining is always a treat so this new (July '25) addition is in a good spot to succeed in the lux two-tier venue formerly housing the traditional Italian restaurant Scala del Nonna, and now housing the upscale farm-to-table Saint Clair. The Saint Clair gets a modern makeover with classy interior and a decent patio setup in the trendy locale. Definitely feels like a treat of a night out surrounded by activities and shopping. The service was polite and attentive, though still tightening some screws. We decided to go tapas-style and everything came out at once, making some things cold by the time we got to them. We sampled some dishes that a good farm-to-table restaurant should take pride in like the tartare and heirloom salad which were both excellent. Tartare was flavorful and prepared perfectly. The heirloom salad had delicious tomatoes and every bite was bright and refreshing and may have been our favorite dish of the night. We then got some "boring" complements in the kale and highly-touted cornbread. These were less impressive. The kale was soggy and one leaf was ~2ft long (not exaggerating). The honey cornbread was recommended by multiple customers and the waitstaff, but we both found it dry and crumbly. Our "entree" was a merguez corn dog with harissa yogurt. The lamb sausage was tender and the kick was perfectly mediated by the thick, moist dough, with a good fry preventing the whole thing from being to gummy. For dessert we got pana cotta with blueberry and cornflakes which is a safe choice but the cornflakes definitely added a much needed texture to the sometimes-dull standby. They also boast an impressive espresso bar which can prepare any espresso based drink with any of their flavors. We got salted a maple cappuccino and toasted marshmallow macchiato. Both excellent if you prefer the sweeter side. Purists may balk at them. Overall the good food was plenty good for a restaurant you probably choose primarily for the ambiance. We cleaned every plate we ordered with even our "least" favorite still being enjoyable. I'd certainly recommend it to a friend even on the competitive Montclair scene. As they develop, I'd like to see them work on the presentation of the plates. The corn dog, salad, and cornnread were all sloppy. The bean sprout on the dessert is silly. My children took me here for Mother's Day and we were informed it was a price fixed menu. 3 courses for $60. But the bread basket was the first course. That was not cool. The beet salad was very good but the potatoes were meh. I had the chicken Milanese which was ok but not super thin, a big hunk of chicken. The waitress was very good. No complaints on service. I came here for brunch with some friends on a Sunday afternoon. It was raining, and parking was insane. There is a large parking garage behind the restaurant that is $2 an hour. There is also a back entrance to the restaurant that is a lot closer than walking to the front. The decor inside is very chic. Our waiter was very kind and helpful. We sat on the second floor. The menu is limited, so if you are a picky eater, I would look at it before. I had the breakfast sandwich. I didn't realize it was going to be a sunny up-side egg, which I don't like. I also didn't care for the chorizo on it. However, the biscuit was delicious. It also came with a really nice side salad. We ordered a side of fries to split and they were just okay. My fiancé and I dined at the St. Clair last Saturday evening, 5/2. We were seated at a lovely corner table, and our waitress was warm, bubbly, and provided wonderful recommendations for appetizers, dinner, and dessert. We were excited to enjoy a rare date night after arranging babysitting for my special needs son, and overall we were having a very enjoyable evening. At one point, our waitress even commented that we looked like "love birds." We were laughing, being playful, and simply enjoying each other's company. During the evening, I noticed the manager glancing over at our table several times, though I assumed perhaps they needed the table turned over. What was upsetting was what happened at the very end of the evening. After we had already paid our bill and finished our coffee, a man working near the kitchen approached us and stated that "management" wanted us to know there was a dress code and that we were not adhering to it. I was honestly shocked and embarrassed that this was brought to our attention only as we were leaving. If there had truly been an issue with our attire, I do not understand why it was not addressed when we arrived or at some point earlier in the evening before we spent several hours dining there. As we were leaving, the manager walked by our table and I expressed how upset I was by the comment and that we did not intend to return. He blamed the employee who approached us and stated he would speak with him. I questioned why an employee we had never interacted with would specifically say "management" if this had not come from management directly. The manager then asked us to wait and returned with a $50 gift card in an attempt to encourage us to come back. However, the entire interaction left us confused and uncomfortable. It felt unnecessary and humiliating to raise the issue only after our meal was over and our bill was paid. I am struggling to understand the purpose of addressing it at that point other than to ensure we would not want to return. It was especially disappointing because, up until that moment, we had truly enjoyed our evening and had been looking forward to coming back & sharing our experince with our Wine Club. The Saint Clair is a serious restaurant, by which I mean a place that takes real care over what it serves, and the results are entirely worth it. The cast iron cornbread, with its butter and hint of honey, is so delectable, it's sinful, which is probably the idea--and having lived in the South for almost two decades, I know good cornbread. The fluke crudo appetizer is a welcome shift from the usual sashimi, with a citron snap and a little bite from Fresno chiles. The tiny clumps of crisped quinoa add crunch, not an element I would have thought to add to what is in essence a type of carpaccio, but then, that's what one goes to a fine restaurant for: new ideas on plates. The other appetizer worth mentioning is billed as arancini with crab meat but which is really the kind of food that ordinary crab cakes can only dream about: a crisply fried exterior enclosing a substantial amount of well-dressed crab. As for greens, I may be the only one around who misses anchovies in a Caesar salad, but this version made up for it with chick pea croutons. As for entrees, our party of four split the prime strip, admirably rare and juicy and accompanied by excellent fries that everyone grabbed; , and the pork chop, thick but not dry, on a bed of gremolata. We also shared the halibut and salmon, where the accompanying flavors of coconut, cashew, mushrooms, black garlic, sunchoke puree, and so on made for great, flavorful bites but perhaps not all that necessary. They're the kind of additions that fine restaurants may add to show what they can invent, a subset of the science of combinatorics. Dessert was a berry tart with ice cream and four spoons, since by then we were all sated. And the espresso arrived just in time for the dessert, which I can vouch is something not so easily achieved, since the beverage station and dessert area aren't always in close communication. When we arrived, we were sent to stand by the kitchen until our entire party was there, even though the restaurant was empty. Once everyone arrived, we were seated right next to the door on the coldest night of the year. We asked to sit at another table and were told we couldn't, even though other tables were empty. When the manager came by to ask how our dinner was, we told him about this and he couldn't care less. Why ask for feedback if he didn't care? Went on a Thursday date night to the Saint Clair. Immediately, the ambiance is very cool with large windows. The hostess was extremely friendly and we were sat right away. Our table was upstairs and enjoyed the more romantic feel up there. Also a plus it was BYOB! The waitress was super attentive. I have a nut allergy and I noticed there were a lot of nuts on the menu. She was so comforting and told me everything is pretty much made fresh so whatever I wanted they can make without nuts and they will be extra cautious with my meal. Definitely another plus! Onto the food - amazing! We shared the duck fat tater tots. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious this was. Only note my fiancée made was he wished there were 4 instead of 3 ;) For our meals, I had the Graffiti Eggplant which was sooo delicious and fresh. My fiancée got the pork chops with cannellini beans. It was super tender and taste great with his side. We ended the night with the blueberry panna cotta.
