I am an event planner and was in a major time crunch after an event when the company that was originally supposed to handle the hay clean-up from a snow activation completely walked away from the job. If you want to have your time wasted with a site visit, be stood up for an unwanted Zoom meeting, never receive your estimate but get emailed lots of excuses and motivational talk about how Bloom Works is totally dedicated to excellent service, and then be completely ghosted, by all means make an appointment with Bloom Works Landscape (formerly Rangel Landscapes). I made two polite requests for my estimate after the site visit, where the company person made a big show of video-ing with his tablet and signing me up for an online meeting in order to receive my estimate (to "explain the scope of service" was what I was told---which should be in the proposal, so I suspect it was really a sort of sales-y thing). Never got the proposal, but after I requested it again I was emailed this instead: "This does not reflect our company's commitment to professionalism and service excellence, and we appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate our dedication to delivering high-quality solutions....I completely understand your time is valuable and we will get this resolved promptly. Your estimate will take priority." Aaaaand then...silence. If a business doesn't want a job because it's too small or not in their wheelhouse, or they're short-staffed, or any other reason, that's fair--all they have to do is say so. It's common courtesy. Keeping people hanging for a couple weeks and then ghosting is not only disrespectful, but shows this company doesn't communicate well, and doesn't feel like it needs to keep its promises. After some research, we landed on this team as the best choice to help us clean up... well, frankly 'glow up' our landscapes, which had grown out of control. The estimate process was one of the best we've had; the office team - especially Bernardo- took at lot of time reviewing our property in person, taking 3D photos to help us get a sense of how things might look afterwards, and also responding to any questions we had - from horticultural ones (why does this plant do what it does), to billing processes. The amount of work required was, honestly, huge. Paolo showed the true meaning of hard work, but also a true love of his work and the plants in our yard. He really loves things that grow and caring for them! The management team does a great job, the business flows in a calm, organized and responsive manner, and they clearly love their work. I've moved to a new home and needed to do some important drainage work before the rainy season. I contacted a few companies recommended by neighbors and my agent, as well as Bloom Works since they have been working with the HOA I was part of until recently. While Bloom Works was not the cheapest, I chose them because their quote was by far the most detailed and comprehensive. They provided a lot of details in their bid, and they priced in advance different options for parts of the work where I had the option to choose a solution based on my preferences. He reached out with an incredibly kind note that thanked me for my feedback and essentially agreed with my Yelp review. He also said that my review had helped the company make changes to ensure that the things I experienced wouldn't happen again. Finally, he offered compensation for the errors, which I really wasn't expecting after so much time had passed. While I haven't worked with them again, I think it takes a lot to admit fault and try and make it right! Our gate was finished in March 2021, but could only properly close/lock around November 2021 (which was when I posted the initial review).  But, a month ago, the gate started falling apart, and another contractor doing other work for us showed that faulty screws were used instead of "wood/metal" screws, and warned us the gate will continue to fall apart, if we do not redo it properly. The gate was fairly expensive so this was very upsetting news. When we asked Juan about this and asked him to fix it, he refused to honor the warranty and/or stand behind his work (his carpenter who built the gate left so he did not want to take responsibility or properly troubleshoot). Instead, he sent us a new contract for gate repair work without guaranteeing final cost or performance.  The fact Rangel built the gate in the first place was completely disregarded. We now have to redo the gate (and will do so with someone else), and surely cannot recommend them. read more

Rangel Landscapes is one of the best contractors we have worked with. Our HOA of a small 8-unit building was tasked with replacing broken pipes that our tree roots damaged, which also resulted in replacing our landscaping. Juan was the only person from all the companies we talked to that was honest with us about what type of trees/plants would not create the same problems. He also suggested that we redo our waterproofing to address subterranean leaking that replacing the pipes alone would not fix; I didn't even know what waterproofing was before this conversation. These two actions sold me on Rangel Landscapes and it was the best decision I could have made. Those of you who also manage HOAs know it can take time to get approval from our neighbors to proceed and the Rangel team was patient throughout this process. They checked in regularly and made sure I had all the information I needed both leading up to signing the proposal and through every step. They were also very flexible throughout the process, allowing us to complete multiple change orders to address our changing needs. We had multiple on-site and virtual meetings prior to work starting to manage my expectations and give me the info I needed to communicate it to my neighbors. The crews always showed up and were super nice and respectful to our residents and property. And most importantly, our landscaping looks gorgeous! My husband and I decided to undertake the daunting task of completely redoing our front yard landscape during the pandemic and awaiting the birth of our first child. Luckily a friend referred us to Rangel Landscapes! From the beginning Juan was extremely attentive, patient and professional. After providing Juan with a basic outline of what we wanted to see from our front yard which had once been a desert landscape but had transformed into a collection of overgrown plants and weeds, Juan provided a detailed rendering of our dream landscape. Juan was extremely patient as we asked to make adjustments, getting on multiple calls and providing detailed explanations on the types of plants he thought would work for our yard and taste. During the installation process, Juan's team was on time everyday. If there were any changes to the schedule, he would communicate asap and ensure it worked with our schedule. And with a newborn, that was so appreciative! Even when we threw Juan a curve ball midway through the project and asked for privacy shrubs that would result in a delay due to the shrubs not being readily available, Juan ensured his team completed the work that could be done while we waited for the shrubs. I was a customer for YEARS, then suddenly got an email that they would need to double how often they come, hence my price would double as well, or else they could no longer serve my property. Now, perhaps they were just looking to purge their client list of those that were grandfathered in at lower rates. Still, a pretty lousy way to go about it. That said, I might have gone for it had the service actually been good. I have a front & back yard of all drought-tolerant plants & shrubs that need the occasional shaping into a bush. But they only do this using the weed-whacker, so everything just looks like an overgrown-but-trimmed ball, instead of a properly thinned-out, bush-shaped plant. This kind of work is not that frequent, but should absolutely be completed by hand. I also asked several times for certain extra work to be quoted (e.g., fixing irrigation, replacing some plantings, redoing mulch throughout the whole yard, fertilizing the whole yard) and their prices consistently came in well (*well!*) above any others. So I had these guys do my regular maintenance (poorly) and would constantly have to have other companies come in to do any additional work. In the end, I'm super happy that they forced the issue and I finally hired one of these other companies to do the regular maintenance, too. Same price as my original price from yeeaaars ago with Rangel, and much better gardening. read more

I can't recommend Rangel Landscapes more highly! We hired the firm to help us with a long list of things: install grass, plants and a wire trellis in the backyard, install a french drain in the front yard, replace an old irrigation system, re-do a concrete walkway, plant ground cover, etc. The quality of the work was so high that we started adding things to our initial project - repair work on a fence and gate, connecting our rain barrel to our drainage system, deck repairs, tree trimming, etc. Everything they did on the property was so well done it became an easy decision to keep hiring them for more work. In particular, our front walkway, (they turned our old, cracked concrete sidewalk into pavers), is absolutely beautiful, like art! I have owned a home in LA for over five years and worked with numerous contractors and service providers (tree trimming, pest control, gutter installation, attic cleaning, etc.). Juan is the best I have ever worked with. Here's why: 1. He is extremely patient and no pressure; he visited our property several times before the job started because we changed our plans and requested revised estimates. He was always reliable about appointments, punctual, flexible about changes and scheduling, and incredibly knowledgeable about plants. 2. He sincerely cares about the quality of work and whether you are satisfied with it. Two small issues came up on the job and he very quickly remedied them. He is easy to get a hold of and would never consider anything finished unless my husband and I were happy with the work. Many companies claim to have this attitude, but it's the absolute real deal with Juan. 3. He goes out of his way to find creative solutions. Our fence had a leaning post and he offered multiple ways to solve the issue. One solve was cheaper and one was more expensive but, arguably, better aesthetically. 4. He creates visual layouts and modifies them as you wish so you know exactly what's getting planted and have a great idea of what it will look like before things get planted. 5. We always felt like an important client even though our project was surely not his biggest. We are hugely impressed with his team, his work, and the ease of communication throughout the process. read more

The initial project I hired Juan for was the replacement of the sprinkler system in our back yard with a drip system. That was all I intended to have him do. But he did so well that I had him do another project, putting in an LED lighting system in our front and back yards. Then I had him reconfigure our sprinkler system in our front yard and replace our dying grass with new turf. Throughout this several months of work (off and on), Juan was quickly responsive to any requests. When I wanted to do some aspect of the job differently from what we had initially planned, his response was never "that won't work." It was always, "we'll find a way " -- even when it required research and investigation by him to figure out a way to accomplish something he hadn't done before. A few more points: 1. Unlike a lot of contractors, when we scheduled a meeting, Juan was always on time. 2. Juan is a perfectionist. He would not consider a project complete until both he and I were entirely satisfied with it. 3. Every member of Juan's crew who worked at our house was as anxious to please and to find a way to accomplish whatever I wanted as was Juan. 4. Juan is not cheap. I could have had the work done a bit more cheaply by others, but I wanted to be confident that it would be done right and that I wouldn't be dealing with fixes to the work in a few months. I and my family moved and we wanted to change our garden. We looked for a lot of companies that did good jobs and at a reasonable price. After searching, we found Rangel Landscapes and decided to set them up to see their work. We arranged with them a few days later. It seemed very choppy and reliable, we decided to choose them and we were very pleased with our choice they really were very reliable and succesful. Rangel did minimal weeding and watering for us twice a month for years. They then insisted that we pay for weekly maintenance at double the cost. We reluctantly agreed. They soon "accidentally" cut down two ornamental bushes in our front yard, leaving two gaping holes. For apparently no reason? They offered to give us some dg as compensation instead of a refund. The service became sloppier and sloppier this year as the months wore on. Then, in March, they didn't come for two weeks due to weather. When I refused to pay unless someone came and took care of the yard, which was a mess, they claim to have sent someone but my yard was still a total disaster - weeds everywhere, over-grown bushes, etc. I wrote to cancel our services. They sent a letter threatening legal action if we didn't pay for March - and our yard still looked disastrous. Something happened in the last year but service went waaaay downhill. The project was done to not only clean up the parkway, but it also entitled our HOA to get a rebate for the Santa Monica "Cash for Grass" program. I was extremely pleased with the work Juan Rangel and his workers provided. Juan handled the necessary paperwork for the city, adhered to the agreed timeline, and ultimately gave us a beautiful functional parkway. His team was terrific, efficient and thoughtful. Communication with Juan was excellent and he gave great technical advice providing the best landscaping for our budget. Our HOA ended up getting a $2100 rebate and with Rangel's very fair quote, the project ended up costing us very little. I would absolutely hire Rangel Landscapes for future projects. read more
