We love our new garden and keep looking out the kitchen and living room windows to view it throughout the day. What we see is a raingarden with coral bells and blue-eyed grass, a mounded berm ringed by manzanita and penstemon, and paths of creeping thyme that Dan and his team created for us. We removed 2146 sq ft of lawn. Our landscape was completed within budget and on time. The Green Grounds team is friendly, punctual, mindful of wearing masks during Covid, and left the site tidy and clean each afternoon. The outdoor bathroom arrived one day prior to when the work was scheduled to begin, and the delivery of dumpster, soil, mulch, plants, and dumpster removal all unfolded as a residential street ballet. Our initial goal was to replace the lawn with a water-efficient landscape with support from the DWP incentive program that offered a $3 for each square foot of turf removed. I provided Dan with a garden plan drawn with colored pencils, detailed comments, some questions, and a list of my favorite drought-tolerant California-friendly plants. Dan patiently responded to my detailed questions about irrigation strategies, design considerations, materials, plants, and codes promptly, line-by-line in my long emails. He provided suggestions based on his experience, brought up considerations, and guided us through the landscape project process. I must emphasize Dan and his team went above and beyond expectations. I will list some examples. 1. An old, neglected, formless and overgrown Yucca tree in our backyard was transformed it into a living sculpture. 2. Blobs of old (excess) concrete at the base of a wall were jackhammered out to create a wider planting bed for the future vegetable garden and sideyard. 3. The team leader noticed a piece of our St. Catherine's Lace plant had broken off, so he took it and planted it in an appropriate spot nearby, saving the cutting and starting a new plant. 4. Our raised beds (that already contained existing vegetables) were surgically fitted with miniature bespoke irrigation systems. I did not expect the Yucca transformation, removing the blobs of concrete, nor for that broken-off piece of our St. Catherine's Lace to be given a second life. These were not spelled out anywhere in our contract. To me, these actions demonstrate care and connection to the garden that was being created. This is kind of wonderful. Dan also provided us an attractive selection of rock, boulder, and mulch samples, later surprising us by bringing by boulders that worked well with the Honey Quartz gravel for the raingarden in both color and scale. Decisions around where to place irrigation controls were solid and logical: the drip irrigation valves were placed in the least obtrusive location in the back of the house, and the smart controller was placed in a location that was easy for us to access. I had not expected an impromptu collaboration making a landscape with Dan and his team. We just wanted to get rid of the terrible, water-wasting lawn. Our home was in desperate need of landscaping after a major renovation. The grass had not been watered for over a year and the only signs of life were some jurassic looking weeds. Both our front and backyard were atrocious. After having dinner in West Adams, we noticed a landscaping office next door. We wanted to work with a local business that also worked with local nurseries and decided to get a quote with Green Grounds. They put me in touch with Guillermo, who I think is the boss. He came by and gave us a reasonable quote for the front yard and fencing around the back. I'd say it's definitely not the cheapest quote but i found it reasonable for the amount of work we were going to do. We weren't ready yet for the backyard but wanted to at least get the front done. We ended up getting a quote for: - dry scape front yard - fencing removal and replacement - plants - gravel - lighting - watering drip system - iron reinforced pavers for driveway It was a lot of work and on the hottest day of the year, their crew showed up with about 8 people to get work done quickly. We were shocked at just how quick things were! In addition, Guillermo did a great job communicating with us, suggesting certain plants and designs, etc. We met him at a local nursery to walk through and pick out plants. He is a walking plant encyclopedia. Show him a plant, he knows exactly what it is! He brought us samples of gravel and were able to choose right away what we wanted for our yard. In a short 5 days, our front yard was brand new and our jenky fence was a secure wooden fence with swinging gate to the backyard access. Not only was the quality of work excellent, but the short amount of time it took them was extremely impressive. We really wanted them to return to do our backyard. Again, we got a quote - this time it was going to be more extensive - leveling the backyard - french drain to divert water away from structures - demo and removal of existing weeds and uglies - plants, trees, privacy hedges, gravel - artificial turf - pavers (with artificial turf in between pavers) - Watering drip system - lighting - decking update to accommodate for land removal - fencing update to accommodate for land removal - laying down brick in a small area This was definitely a lot of work. I initially wanted to see if we could get LA County to give us some rebate money but we did not qualify. this delayed us signing up and submitting our deposit for about a month. However, after finally committing to the project and submitting our $1K deposit, unfortunately by that time Green Grounds had a bunch of other projects. They weren't able to get to ours until 2 months later. it was a long wait but ultimately, it was absolutely worth it! Again, the crew came out - this time on the coldest day! 8-10 people for demo, excavation, pavers, plants, etc. It was a massive project and they completed it in 6 days! I am so happy with the result. I am also extremely impressed with Green Grounds - their work quality, ethic, and professionalism. Extremely expensive company. I highly suggest you meet with several landscape companies before going with this one. They might be more geared for high end customers where budget is not an issue. I spoke to five different landscape companies and this was by far the most expensive. I felt that they were taking advantage of the current state of our country & overcharging. I understand that overall costs have gone up (labor, product, etc.,) but I felt they weren't even in the same ball park as the other 4 companies. My jaw literally dropped when I saw their proposal. I hate having to write bad reviews for small businesses but at the same time I take every big decision I make very seriously. Landscaping is like hiring a contractor, I took hours researching & interviewing various companies. As a new homeowner of a fixer, every penny counts! But at the same time I'm not trying to find the cheapest vendor, I'm looking for something fair. I'm going to share facts and you make your own determination: We used green grounds for about a year patiently until increasing problems over the last few months and less and less willingness to address mistakes became untenable for us. On two separate multiweek occasions while we continued to recieve bills, green grounds crews stopped showing up for weeks at a time until we noticed and called to report it. They said we were deleted from the schedule accidentally, twice. A ceramic potted plant was broken in an area behind a locked gate. We don't have animals or kids. Someone collected the pieces and swept up the dirt, but no one reported it or owned up to it. When we noticed and called they promised to replace it and never did. Green grounds crews decided to dig up a garden bed that had visible surface drip lines. They used a fullsize shovel and we ended up with a dozen or so cuts in the line. No one reported the damage and water flooded for a month, while other plants in the same zone wilted and died. When I finally noticed, and reported it, green grounds claimed someone had come to fix it on three occasions, including the supervisor, but security footage proved he didn't show up. It didn't get fixed until the 4th time when I showed up to make sure it got done. When we hired Green Grounds we went over the lavender care. We were promised that would be taken care of correctly. They butchered the lavender cutting into the hardwood which will not grow back on this plant. They severed another irrigation line while doing it and didn't report it. They currently aren't answering my calls and I've let them know via email we will be cancelling service moving forward. read more

We had the owner of the company come out to our house to get an estimate for some work. We really wanted to use a local company, and had 4 different companies come out and walk through our front and back yard to go over what we want to do. When we got back the bid from Green Grounds, we were absolutely shocked and offended that they were 3 times higher than the next closest bid. I understand some companies will be higher than others, but to be more than $24,000 higher than the next closest bid was beyond ridiculous! Had these guys come and do a smaller job on my property installing black metal edging and staking some trees. Two weeks later I am still finding sharp pieces of metal they left all over in my lawn and the black on the metal edging is completely peeling off all over. (Left empty water bottles and trash all over in my potted plants too). Before I even noticed all that in the back I tried to also have them give me a second quote for artificial grass and the guy completely lied about the price. We went over everything in detail during the site visit, reviewed the notes he took and he showed me the math and confirmed the overall price all included at $10.5k. What an amazing company and employees! They did my mother's front and back lawn and we were blown away. I don't have a bank roll like her but I still had them come out to bid it. They did everything to work with us to get the bottom dollar amount to where we could afford it. Each time we re worked the bid Cirilo came out to walk us through the changes and made us not feel like we weren't loosing as much as we did. In the long run we felt like we didn't loose anything we wanted. They took us to their nursery and my wife was in heaven picking out plants. Cirilo didn't complain once if it wasn't what he planned out via our talks instead he would make other suggestions on plants that would look and work well with our changes. He also found 2 multi-grafted fruit trees that I REALLY wanted. His team was amazing. They took every precaution to keep my wife, kids and myself safe during covid. They didn't mind having a 5 & 7 yr old Forman sitting on the front steps watching them demo and remove trees. At one point they knocked on the door to let us know they were cutting a tree down so the boys could watch. Not only did they do the lawn but they did all the demo, piping, wiring for sprinklers (smart phone comparable), lights, French drains, brick work, wood panels for a fence running the whole length of the property, a gate to match and gutters. I feel like there was even more they did that I can't remember. The crew cleaned up daily and left our place beautiful and spotless. Imagine a huge yard with TONS of potential, yet absolutely NO appeal. That was our back yard for the last 10 years - a huge waste of space. Cirilo Rosa and GreenGrounds Landscape Services changed all that completely! We had a vision and their expertise helped us bring it to life. See for yourself in our before and after photos. They have additional professional photos from our project on their website, but I wanted to share ours, too. I absolutely recommend GreenGrounds to anyone looking for a landscape transformation. Cirilo and his teams (hardscape, landscape, gas/electrician) were professional, polite, hard working, and highly skilled. They built gorgeous stucco retaining walls, two custom redwood gates, installed two huge Trex Deck areas with an adjoining walkway, custom crafted a DG Yin/Yang symbol for a Zen Garden, installed completely new automated, custom zoned drip irrigation, made plant recommendations then took us shopping to select our trees and plants from a large, professional nursery, staged all the plants for final approval, then planted and lighted the whole thing! Our back yard is now a paradise, a resort-like haven, with dedicated spaces that we enjoy several times daily, and will be proud to share with family and friends! The process wasn't without a few hiccups, but something that really impressed me was how GreenGrounds (Cirilo) took pride in the work they were doing for us and always went the extra mile. At one point we realized something was off and brought it to their attention, the very next day Cirilo brought the team (who'd finished that part of the job, and moved on) back to make it right. How often do you see that in the world of contractors? Did I mention this whole process took place during a pandemic? The crew set up a sanitization station, wore masks and carried on without missing a beat. The project completed several weeks ago, and they have sent out a team to monitor the health of the plants to be sure everything took and that the watering schedule was correct. I've been meaning to write this review for a couple months now. It's well deserved as you'll see from my pictures. My wife and I bought our house last year and wanted to turn our very small yard into a little oasis and maximize our limited space. I was deep into our bid process when I remembered I took a picture of their truck doing a job not far from me and decided to get my one last bid after I thought my mind was already made up. I wanted to write this review after experiencing the wonderful service from Green Grounds Landscaping. I found them on Yelp. They didn't come recommended by a friend but I couldn't have picked a better company to work with. I got bids from different contractors including Green Grounds.I have some experience with other contractors so I knew what I was looking for and after meeting Cirilo I realized he is not only professional and has great work ethic but he comes with immense knowledge and will go to lengths to make you comfortable and so it was an easy choice to go with them. The experience couldn't have been better. The crew is a bunch of solid, hardworking extremely talented workers who take pride in their jobs. They were always on time, did all the assigned work with speed and detailing needed and cleaned up after. We started with something small but after experiencing Cirilo and his crew decided to make it a big project. Which also meant last minute changes and adjustments to already done work. However Cirilo was most accommodating and made sure we get the best advice and did everything up to mark. You hear such horror stories with contractors and delayed work but I cannot stress enough what a breeze this team was. It's not everyday you have the boss coming to check on the work progress and explain everything to the clients. One day Cirilo made two rounds just to make sure the granite was fitted correctly and I was so relieved to have him there. When I thanked him he said Its my job to make sure you are happy. I truly believe that's the mantra of this company. They have not only made my yard look like a dream but also did deliveries of appliances as a favor without any charge. My car couldn't load them and Cirilo made sure I get all of the stuff so I could be stress free and we could finish the work in the time allotted. There are so many such instances but long story short they go above and beyond like I have never experienced. My most favorite thing about Cirilo throughout this process was that not once did he push us to add more stuff or raise the budget by suggesting extra services that he could offer. He stuck to what we wanted. Again not being pushy to get more dime out of you is a rarity in this business and a quality we truly admired. They installed Front Patio, BBQ island, outdoor lights, pebbled pathway, Fruit trees, Raised garden beds and Pergola. Thank you so much Team Cirilo. Also thanks to our main man Cromo who is as nice as talented and master of all. He did a fab job with installing new patio, the BBQ counter, the plexiglass roof on the pergola and the pergola itself. He made a change without me asking him to because he was not happy with the way one stone was placed, talk about detailing, and the rest of the amazing crew who worked non stop to make sure we get our dream backyard and more. The work included horizontal fencing (200 feet + on a hillside), concrete stairs, two decks, and a bocce ball court. I'm not reviewing based on work done. I am sure they might be great at what they do. But their quote was so astronomical for a tiny front yard where I already had a design made that was purposefully done to be economical. They came in at twice the cost of another landscaper and 3 times the cost of another two bids. There weren't any pavers or special features in my design either. Just for the demo they quoted almost what another landscaper quoted for the entire project. Maybe they didn't really want my business if they are so busy but just warning you to get more than their bid! read more

Guillermo was my project manager and he's very nice and easy to work with. His crew were fast and efficient. My neighbor, who was a landscaper for the city of Beverly Hills for decades, commented on how well the crew worked: "these guys know what they are doing!" I took off a star for detail. I am maybe a bit particular, but there were several instances that came up that did not meet my expectations or complied with the conversations I had with Guillermo. For the most part, the 'issues' were resolved thereafter but a few still remain - some of which really cant be fixed without spending thousands of more dollars. I also think that the expertise for GGL lies more in the hardscape area and less so in the actual design of the landscape (plants etc) and knowledge of certain plants in general. So I have ended up with the wrong color of the bougainvillea than what I wanted. It's close, but not exactly what I wanted. I should have done a little more research myself on the color since apparently there are so many types of bougainvillea that are similar in color. To end on a high note, the Ironwork that was installed on my new mason wall, is stunning. Really incredible work! I decided to use this company because they are local to my area, have great reviews here on Yelp and I had a great meeting with the supervisor who came to estimate my backyards maintenance. I was promised impeccable service, everything trimmed the way I wanted, reports for dead or dying plants that needed replacing and a lot more. I don't need to be best friends with my gardener but I have paid a lot of money for my backyard and I loved how much communication they said there would be. Unfortunately it didn't go that way. They hacked our favorite bushes into boxes, moved plants without permission, planted the removed plants right in the middle of an area that would be underfoot when u sat on the bench, broke our sprinkler heads (although they did come back to repair... thx for that) which leaked for about 5 days. When I had a problem and asked to speak to the supervisor, he called back in 3 days and said he'd come take a look but never did. Instead of pulling weeds growing out of my DG / Timber steps they hacked at them with some kind of tool leaving holes in my DG. Weeding throughout has been pretty awful, as well. In fact, my backyard has never looked this bad. They're pricing for maintenance was among the highest I bid out but the promise of a more professional company sold me. If you have a basic yard these are your guys... if you have put a lot into your yard and want a proper gardener over a blow mow and go team... do yourself a favor and AVOID. read more

We are so amazed with Greengrounds - fantastic work and amazing customer service. The owner of the company Cirilo is such a genuinely nice and caring guy. He is a total perfectionist with an artistic eye and cares about doing things the right way. That being said, he is totally open to ideas and doesn't have too big of an ego to admit when something could be better and he fixes it! What more could you ask for? We have an old 1927 Spanish home and have done many renovations thru the years and a lot of them were stressful and frustrating but these guys were kind, hard working, good communicators and knocked the work out. They helped address our drainage concerns, installed lighting & irrigation, choose plants and of course the gorgeous hardscape. Our job was stalled for 3 weeks when the company shut down in the peak of the pandemic but if it wasn't for that I think it would have finished on time and it was just another sign that they care about their team. Having this beautiful outdoor space to gather with friends outdoors during the pandemic helped us keep our sanity and has honestly changed our lives - we have lived here for 20years and we hardly ever spent time in our own yard and now we are out there all the time and have a place where we are proud to invite people over. Avoid working with this business at all cost. The cost of service is higher the the fair market value of gardening services, the team has constant turnover, the individual service can vary between each person, individuals do not take the opportunity to introduce themselves, and significant changes can made to the garden without any discussion. I have used this service and did not enjoy any part of working with this company. No one in this organization actually cares cares about the customer. read more

Green Grounds is amazing!! If you are looking for a landscaping company that knows what they are doing stylistically with great knowledge of plants make sure to call them! Dan the owner and his team are excellent in their craft. My husband and I are both in the creative/design industry and are pretty particular about certain things. We have worked with other landscapers before and felt like Dan and his team were by far the most professional, knowledgeable, respectful, and efficient team we have worked with. Dan's manager came out to consult initially, then Dan came out with the manager to consult the second time, and then Dan and I met up to hand pick each pot and plant that was going to be placed in our yard. I didn't just want succulents everywhere. I wanted the plants to fit our Spanish Revival home. Dan knew exactly what to pick to create and the look I wanted with movement, touch of color, and an airy feel. It was a lot of fun! Every meeting Dan was punctual, professional, and very helpful. He went the extra mile to accommodate within our budget and pick up some extra items we requested. When the actual work started his crew came on time, worked quickly, made sure everything was done as requested, cleaned everything up so no mess was left behind, and gifted us with a beautiful transformed yard, courtyard, and backyard. If we ever have to do landscaping work in the future or know anyone who needs work done to their home we will make sure to recommend Dan and Green Grounds Landscaping!
