Apple Bar, Pizza Muffin, coconut and chocolate bar, and Carrot Cake muffin with toffee frosting.
    Rick R.

We picked this bakery to visit because they make everything without grain, dairy, soy, gluten, eggs, cane sugar, oils, or yeast. What else is left? We had to find out. I can tell you that the pizza muffin is made with Tiger Flour and Buckwheat in the base and includes sun-dried tomatoes, pepperoncini, artichokes and other tasty items. It was delicious, and the Apple Bar was amazing! The carrot cake muffin also exceeded my expectations. I was concerned about the toffee frosting, but the flavor combo seemed to work, although my taste buds tasted peanut butter moreso than toffee. Either way, it was solid! I don't like the texture of coconut flakes, so I didn't try thst bar, but my friend liked it. I'm giving 5 stars because it can't be easy to make baked goods taste good without the ingredients that make them less healthy, but Blooming Lotus figured it out! I would go back again, and I recommend you give them a try. They also have a Shorewood location.

The lady at the counter was so sweet and welcoming. I was very excited to try a GF/DF bakery in Milwaukee. Rishi tea was the main event! It was so good. They had some seating available but I was a bit concerned about restaurant not letting customers use their restroom. I'm so glad we drove and not walked there!! They have a great variety. My favorite was their donuts but it was a bit too sweet. Most things had a lot going on. I'm glad I got a chance to check this place out.

    Hippie Scone and cinnamon roll

They have the best cinnamon roll that I have tried so far. I read all the reviews online before going so I kind of knew what I would get. But when I actually stood in front of the display case, I still felt so tough to make a choice! They didn't have the apricots and fig scone which seems to be very popular among customers who have been there and reviewed, nor anything related to pumpkin today. So I felt relieved that two candidates were already automatically eliminated lol. The lady behind the case is very friendly and patient. I decided to get the Hippie Scone and the cinnamon roll. They are both served warm and have a special vegan-type thick yet soft texture, not over sweet flavors and lots of natural toppings. The Cinnamon Roll is a bomb with creamy nutty fillings. Every bite was delightful to me. The Hippie Scone is less sweet than the cinnamon roll, but has a really nice hint of dark chocolate flavor. My car smelt so good after I opened the plastic box, and I finished the two even before I started my car! Can't wait to try other things here!

This place right here! UGH THIS PLACE BLOOMING LOTUS BAKERY IS 100% THE MOVE!!! I can't get enough of their baked goods and they are definitely what I call BLOOMING! I rolled up on a Sunday for some post church baked goodies and I was not disappointed! As soon as I walked in I knew I was going to love this place! When I opened the doors I was instantly greeted by they very friendly staff. They were all following Covid protocols and were very helpful to me as a newbie to this bakery. Now I grabbed a 4 different goodies to diversify what I was trying. Let's just say biting into every one of those baked goods was a blessing! I honestly wish I savored those first bites more because there is nothing like it! I honestly forgot these baked goods were free of grain, gluten, egg, dairy, cane sugar, oils, soy and yeast until after I demolished two of the goodies! I just can't believe something this good can also be healthy. The only baked good I was not a super fan for was an apple pie Danish. For that one I could really taste the lack of dairy and eggs but was still good just not as good as the others. So lets be real here, you have no business not going here! These are delicious baked goods that are actually healthy for you! I'm not vegan or gluten free, but I see no reason why I wouldn't keep going considering how good these baked goods are!

The prices can be a bit steep which is the only drawback here. I personally don't mind if products use processed sugar as long as it's vegan, but I'm sure it's important to some! That being said everything we got was really nice! The apple pie bar was transcedant and so was the turtle brownie, both of which I'm craving. I also got a cinnamon bun that was ok but I think I'm learning I'm more of a "it has to be warm and absolutely covered in icing" cinnamon bun person. it took around $16~ for 3 items, which surprised me as they don't have price tags on the case itself and I felt bad asking. I guess they had a sign with prices but looking back and forth and trying to read the lettering is a pain. Obviously I'm sure they can't lower their prices which i respect, but perhaps they could put price tags in the display case to make things a bit easier on everyone. Also it was funny they forgot to charge me before handing me my desserts. I just stood there really confused til a gal came up to check me out lol. Gotta support a vegan bakery! A delicacy.

Blooming Lotus is hands down the best bakery in MKE! As someone who recently went gluten-free, I was pretty bummed I would be missing out on all my favorite treats. Then Blooming Lotus came to the rescue! While they are a little pricier than buying baked goods from the grocery store - they are well worth it. Their food is "Free of grain, gluten, egg, dairy, cane sugar, oils, soy and yeast" which is a huge game changer for me!! Not only are their items healthier but it all tastes amazing - trust me you'll never want to go back to the conventional, processed bakery items. Some of my fav items from Blooming Lotus are - cinnamon rolls, spice cutout cookies (pictured), apple pie and donuts.

Um yum. My husband and I came here after I decided to go dairy free. He likes to buy me treats and it's difficult to find something I can eat. EVERYTHING there looks delicious and everything we got was better than it looked. It is pricey, $17 for these 4 goodies, but i'd say it's worth it. We don't get sweets often, so we don't mind paying more for something that I can actually eat. 10/10 will go back!

This bakery is perfect, if you have certain food allergies or/and looking for healthy, fresh bakery options! Located off North Ave., Blooming Lotus Bakery is a grain-free, dairy free, processed sugar-free, egg-free, and fresh bakery! I only know this because I was cheerfully greeted with this introduction upon arriving! Which is impressive on paper, but equally impressive upon hearing and seeing. The atmosphere matched the prompt customer service with an inviting welcome! There were about three employees working in this snug "cafe". They all looked pretty comfortable and happy to be at work. A great indication of the company itself. I was told by an employee that all that is offered for the day is in the food display, and that I would have better luck looking in the food display below than the posted menu above head. There were quite a range of scones, muffins, some cupcakes, cookies, pie (sold full or by slice), "no rye" rye chips, breads, etc. Coffee/ tea offered hot or iced. All displayed with appeal! I chose the lemon poppy seed muffin and potato leek soup (~$6.50). I chose to get my food to go, even though there was plenty of seating there. As for the food, the muffin was semi- moist and firm/thick! It was smaller and great for a snack! The soup was wholesome and fresh tasting. Savory, fresh smell! I added hot sauce for an extra oomph! All in all, I feel satisfied with my first experience at this bakery! I will be returning for the great customer service, great atmosphere, and fresh bakery!! I was so disappointed when I missed the chance to try out Love Handles (previously occupied by). Don't make my same mistake with not trying out Blooming Lotus Bakery! Though, I feel they will be around for quite some time!

Blooming Lotus is a little hidden gem on the East Side. This is a great bakery spot for anyone with dietary restrictions, watching what they are consuming or just looking for a tasty treat! All of their pastries are dairy, gluten, soy, grain and egg free! They only use natural sugars as well, such as fruits to sweeten their pastries. They offer a wide variety of ever changing menu items including donuts, muffins, scones, brownies, lemon bars, cookies and more. I tried the salted caramel carrot cupcake and a cinnamon bun. Both had great flavor, but could have been more moist. The frosting on the cupcake was very thick and had such a great rich flavor. I definitely plan to go back to try more, especially a chocolate donut!

Cashew bar and a massive cherry danish
    Kate T.

My boyfriend and I went here for an after-lunch snack. He chose a massive cherry danish, and I went with the cashew bar after the lady told me it was the most popular item they sold. Then, while we were paying for our snacks we told her we'd like them to go, and she chuckled and said they would even leave the building. She was absolutely right. We sat down for a little bite before we walked home, and they were divine. They were neither too sweet, nor too "healthy" tasting. I eat tons of gluten and grains and meat and all that, but this was still just a very nice bakery! And my boyfriend loves it because it's not gut-twistingly sweet, but it was enough sweetness to make the perfect finale for our lunch. We can't wait to come back here again!

Everything is handcrafted with high-quality ingredients, and they even rotate unique flavors that keep you coming back just to see what's new. From classics to wild combos (yes... whiskey ice cream is a thing), every bite hits. And let's talk portions... that "double scoop" is basically a challenge in disguise. No complaints though. The vibe is awesome too--laid back, creative, and full of energy. It feels like one of those spots you stumble into and immediately know it's gonna be a regular stop. Fast service too! Honestly, it felt like stepping into a Kangra Knova track-- "Take you up so high... into outer space" because that's exactly what this ice cream does

We reviewed the menu while we waiting for seating, which took far longer than we wanted, more than 30 minutes standing in the cramped lobby area with a bunch of other people. Hats off to their host for being friendly and even a little entertaining and I like that you can order coffee at the register area and drink it while you wait. Too bad you can't get a cocktail out there. The menu sounded great and we were ravenous so we were excited to order. By the time we were seated we were limited to about 40 minutes to get to a ticketed event, all in. I told that to our waitress so she could pace the meal accordingly. While I understand that she can't control the kitchen time, I don't think she showed any expediency or attention to my statement. Spoiler alert - we were late. Two of us ordered the biscuits to start with jam. I was happy to try them and they were good. My coffee based martini hit the spot, but it was spilled a little when it hit the table and our server didn't say anything or wipe it off. My mom liked her bloody Mary and it was decent. When our food came I was immediately disappointed by the appearance. My chilaquiles looked like they had sat under a heat lamp for ages - the egg was dried and over firm. My chips were spicy, but 100% soggy and nasty. My black beans were - meh. Not a good dish overall. My mom actually didn't find fault with her Honeypie Benedict. I tried the hollandaise and it was fine. My cousin did not enjoy her Hopple Popple skillet at all. (Potatoes, bacon, caramelized onion, mushroom, bell pepper, cheddar, two scrambled farm eggs) She found it difficult to find any egg, as it was apparently shrunk into tiny bits. The potatoes were like fries and it was overall bland. Not a winner. We certainly won't be back. The dishes don't live up to the interesting descriptions of them and the hype seems to be from an earlier, better time for this restaurant.
