My husband, planner, and I all tried to contact him via phone and email several times up until a week before the wedding to get a final balance and confirm, before making the reasonable assumption that he was skipping out and securing another vendor. Four or so days before the wedding he suddenly emails saying there was a death in the family and he was out of the country and that we were "confirmed." By that point we had gotten another vendor and asked him nicely for our $100 deposit back both by email and a letter. We never heard back. While it is very sad that he had a death in the family, it was still his professional obligation as a vendor to inform us what happened and let us know when he would be back and that everything was ready to go.
