Ms. Hershey's blue was amazing. I purchased a Groupon for a bob weave and hoped for the best. She didnt make me feel funny for purchasing her services at a discount, in fact she made me feel appreciated. Her people skills are great, I felt like she's been my stylist for years and I will definitely come again. As a matter of fact I've already made my second appointment. Her shop is super cute. I loved her concept of blue in various shades on the walls with her pictures and decor. It was very comfortable and inviting. The Bob turned out really cute I really liked the outcome. I was more than pleased, I felt like a new woman. The thing that impressed me the most was how knowledgeable she was about hair colors and weave brands. She was very thorough. I found Blu Beauty Bar last year via Groupon .Mrs.Terri did a great job with my natural hair.I wanted something new and she surprised me with a beautiful vibrant red.She was fast and very professional.Recently I ran into a scheduling conflict with my hairstylist.I found a Groupon at $99 for a full sew in I called and booked online at 9:30 am for the next day with Hershey there is a $25 deposit fee.I was there on time but no one else was ..I called & called finally left a voicemail around 9:45ish.10 o clock I noticed the lights were on ( there's not many parking options at this location so I wasn't directly in front) .I walked up & rang the door bell.I was greeted with big smiles from Hershey & Mrs.Terri and unfortunate apologies.We had a brief conversation ,took a few before pics and she took me back to wash my hair.While washing my hair I told Hershey that Mrs.Terri had done a great job on my hair color the prior year.She was happy to hear I came back.FAST FORWARD through wine ,convo and the cable being cut off mid service.3:30ish I was finally finished Hershey took more pics and we met at the reception area where she said I had incurred a $70 fee (Which forfeited her tip because I wasn't aware til after the services were done) she also said that Her & Mrs.Terri had a conversation and she didn't realize that I had already been here (Even though I already told her Terri dyed my hair the prior year) using Groupon the prior year saying "In the small print it says Groupons are only for new customers so we hope to see you again but you can't use Groupon" I told her that I wasn't aware of that policy. Just shy of $200 later this experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth about Blu Beauty Bar.I will be more patient with my stylists as well .I consulted with Groupon on this matter and there actually isn't in policy My hair does look nice that isn't up for dispute. read more

Quick service and friendly staff. I went to get a weave taken out and the stylist was very professional and knew to comb my hair before a wash. It's amazing how many stylist don't know how to do this after type 4c hair was braided for over 2 months. The weave prices are moderate at around $200-$250. They have a yelp deal, pay $25 for $40 worth of service. Don't hesitate to make an appointment. CON- the shop smelled like food. It's best to have plug-ins or open the window when customers are in the shop. read more

I love my hair, Hershey was the person that did my hair.when I came into the salon I was stressed out about my hair was damaged and choppy. I came in thinking I would have had to get a weave because it looks so bad. But once I spoke with her she and we had a consultation about how I wanted and liked my hair and what my hair needed. I desperately needed my hair done today. I called and asked if I can come in as a walk-ins and was taken with no problem! My hair was in really bad shape prior to coming in and my stylist, Hershey (who is the senior stylist and owner) told me straight up that I really needed a haircut. I was really nervous as this was my very first time letting someone else do my hair other than someone who I've known for a long time. I am very satisfied with my hair results, my hair feels amazing and very stylish. Hershey is a joy to be around and she made me feel very comfortable. After placing multiple calls to salons in the area asking for them to cut my natural-textured African American hair, I stumbled upon this salon on Yelp claiming to specialize in natural hair, relaxers etc. The relaxers piece should have been my first clue, that the salon was not truly a "Natural Hair Salon". Let me give you a little background, I went natural about six years ago by transitioning with sew-ins. My hair is mid-back length and thick in the best way possible. Since being natural, I have become my own hair stylist, washing my hair, dusting my ends, and doing regular deep conditions, but I was really desperate for a good and proper hair cut. I did a quick Yelp search and found that there were very few Natural Hair Salon options in Baltimore, that were 1. accepting appointments and 2. Nearby. Prior to going to the salon, I had only ever straightened/used heat on my natural hair once. I went in with the expectation that I would be able to have my hair cut without a flat iron needing to be involved. I had a 90's party that I was attending later that night and had the intention of wearing my hair in its natural state. I walked into the salon and noticed that a portion of the salon seemed to be undergoing some sort of construction or renovations as there were some unpainted walls, splotches of paint- whatever, no biggie, I can handle all of this as long as my hair's taken care of. I waited about twenty minutes until the salon owner was ready for me. She pulled out a fine tooth comb- clue number two that I should have run, and began to run the comb through my natural hair. If you haven't already guessed, I do not use combs, let alone, fine tooth combs on my hair. I think people get intimidated by thick hair and immediately think oh this hair is nappy, I will need to literally rake the naps out of it. From beginning to end, the entire process took like three hours, but I understand this is the nature of Black Salons. I haven't been natural for so long, that I don't understand Black Twitter's Black Salon jokes. I was placed in a sink where multiple deep conditioners with all sorts of sulfates were applied to my hair while a comb was raked through my precious strands, clumps of my hair falling to the ground. I was then placed under the dreaded dryer aka the place where black women go to die, for about an hour. I was patronized by the salon staff that questioned my natural regimen- what shampoo do you use? Shea Moisture. What's that? How often are you washing your hair? Once a week. That's too much, see that's why it's so dry. No, I co-wash my hair every other week. What's a co-wash- Clue number three that I should have grabbed my belongings and booked it , but I was in too deep. I was told that the only way to cut my hair was to straighten it. I reserve straightening my hair for special occasions only. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this proposal, but ultimately gave in. I was chided with the typical- "You can straighten your hair every once in while", "You're not gonna lose your curl pattern." I took in the views of some of the client's missing hairlines warily, as I refrained from explaining the science behind hair and the fact that it burns at a certain temperature and irreversible damage is completely and totally possible. I left $80 dollars lighter, with straight hair that I never really wanted. I tipped the hair stylist because I'm not rude, but in any other situation (i.e. food) I would have questioned tipping just a little bit harder. I'm sure that this salon does great hair for you relaxed folks, but if you're natural- it might be worth hopping in that car of yours and heading up I-95 to seek out some actual natural hair salons in other cities (i.e. Philly, New York etc.). Thankfully, I was able to dance and drown my sorrows away at the party I went to later that night. Oh, and with a little help from a clarifying shampoo or two, my hair was able to revert to its natural texture the next day. Thank the high heavens for my hair's crazy resiliency. read more

My stylist was Hershey. Hershey was extremely professional and welcoming. She took her time with my hair, took time to ask what my hair goals were, and discussed hair care and maintenance with me. She made me feel welcomed from the moment I spoke with her to make my appointment, I appreciated her for taking the time to give me hair maintenance techniques and she gave me a complete review of the health of my hair.
