My experience was less than pleasing. I am not in the cosmetology business and maybe ignorant but what is it about salons booking a ton of heads when only two people are working? (One full stylist and one washer/blow dryer that day). My appointment was at 11. I wasn't in a seat until noon. I didn't leave until 5. I know that I had no idea what color I wanted. And even though Ora did try to help, I felt very much like an inconvenience to her. I was a new customer, who explained that I had only had permanent color done once. And she still seemed a little peeved at me not knowing what I wanted. She's the expert. Shouldn't she be able to help? And happily? When I complained that my head was tingling (reminiscent of the prelude to burning when I got my hair relaxed years and years ago) she made it seem like that was normal and that I needed to try to stay under longer to get the best color/effect. So I did. It took forever while she tended to the many other customers. But it very much felt like the dryer was her way of putting me and my services on the bench for a bit so she could do others. I will say that without a doubt my hair looked great once completely done. The color was amazing, the press was great. I didn't love the style but I figured I would just mess with it when I got home. I asked about waves like hers but she said it would be more money. To. Do. Some. Waves. With the same flatiron. So I just let it go. I paid 200 or so dollars which I know might not be a lot but for someone who never goes to salons and has been tending to her own natural/no-heat hair for years, it felt like so much for poor service. That was fine. It was what happened after that is the reason I am writing this review. I waited a few months to decide if I wanted to write this. But after multiple washes, pure aloe vera, masks, and deep conditioning treatments, I know my hair is ruined. More than five years of growing out and not putting heat on my hair -- all in the garbage. My curls are ruined. All I have to do is brush my hair and my natural, afro hair stays straight. Never, not since I used to relax my hair and started transitioning and saw my real texture, has my hair looked like this. I have cried. I have spent lots of money. And now to find some peace, I am writing this review. I genuinely DO NOT remember either Ora or her niece putting any type of heat protectant on my hair. I think at one point I even asked because I was worried. I warned her a billion times that my hair was NO HEAT NATURAL as of five years. No heat (save once). Or permanent die. Or relaxer. No precautions taken by Ora. And I know it's not just my hair because my own sister had tried to straighten my hair just once over that period of time and my curls came right back. The only thing I liked about myself -- thick hair on my head that I've learned to grow and protect -- is now gone. And I spent 200 dollars to ruin it. I will never be going back here. And unless you are not having service done on your real, natural hair (wig and weave), I would caution other newbie hair salon goers from going here too. Aside from the rudeness, tardiness, pricey-ness, etc, the most important thing is that my hair is ruined.

As someone with alopecia who doesn't go to salons often, trusting someone with my hair felt significant, and Ashley made me feel comfortable the entire time. That is not what I received. I arrived with long, full, healthy hair that I had spent years growing and caring for. My hair was mid back length, and I communicated clearly that my priority was improving the shape while preserving as much length as possible. I did not request a dramatic cut. There was no thorough consultation. Yasmine hardly spoke to me throughout my appointment. She asked a few questions at the outset. There was no education component aside from attempting to sell me products at the conclusion of the service. Despite my very clear request to maintain my length, a significant amount of length was removed, far beyond what was discussed or was necessary to improve the shape of my hair. That loss is permanent. It will take years for my hair to fully recover, and there is nothing that can be done in a follow-up appointment to restore what was taken. Beyond the length loss, the cut itself lacked cohesion. It did not account for the different shrinkage rates across my curl patterns, which range from approximately 3C to 4B, and as a result the shape dried unevenly in an angular helmet shape with blunt awkward bangs, rather than nicely framing my face. The styling portion of the service further obscured the cut. Extremely heavy product was used, weighing my hair down and masking the actual shape. I was not given meaningful education or instruction on how to achieve my desired style at home, despite this being a central component of what differentiates a Curl Discovery Cut from a standard haircut. I left without clarity on how to properly style my own hair and with a result that looked nothing like what I had requested. In addition, the handling of my hair during the service was uncomfortably rough. In the days following my appointment, I experienced ongoing breakage that I had not been dealing with prior. After the appointment, I attempted to resolve the situation in good faith. The only option offered was an in-person assessment and potential adjustment under the salon's service guarantee. No refund, partial or otherwise, was considered. Given the extent of the length already removed, the lack of trust created by the initial experience, and the fact that additional cutting could not undo the damage, returning to the same chair did not feel like a meaningful or safe remedy. If they were genuinely sorry for what happened and the aspects of the service that were not delivered, they would offer a meaningful remedy, not a requirement to put my hair back into the same hands that already damaged it. After my experience, I read additional reviews and noticed a consistent pattern. Multiple clients describe receiving little to no actual consultation or education as part of the Curl Discovery Cut, despite that being a core part of how the service is marketed. Others note difficulty working with looser or mixed curl patterns, overly heavy styling that obscures the cut, failure to account for shrinkage, rough handling during detangling, and breakage following their visit.
