I had been looking for a salon in Baltimore for months and wanted to choose a place that would do a good job at a reasonable price and kept me safe during the pandemic. I booked an appointment the same day I called, which was great because it was short notice. Virginia greeted me and shampooed my hair, which felt absolutely amazing. Then Euthoxia cut my hair. I showed her the so pictures of a length I liked and she immediately got to work and it was absolutely perfect when she finished, exactly what I wanted and I barely even told her what I had in mind! I told her I had an anniversary date that night, so she curled my hair and made it look amazing. The ladies were all so friendly and talkative, it made me feel very comfortable. I'd been looking for a place in Baltimore to get my haircut and saw the reviews here so thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately the staff members at Studio 1622 are extremely rude and unprofessional. I definitely will not be going back!! When I walked in for my 4:30 appointment this afternoon, I was rudely told "your appointment was at 4" in a nasty tone. I was super surprised and apologized. However, I know for a fact it was 4:30 because I had confirmed the appointment time. I also have classes until 4pm so I would never have scheduled a 4pm appointment. Ugh. Even if I had accidentally messed up the times (which I am 100% sure I didn't), that's no way to treat a customer! I wasn't even greeted. I briefly considered staying in the waiting area, but it was dark and poorly lit, and the hairdressers were talking loudly and dropping expletives. I realized it was dumb to pay $30 to be insulted like this so I left without a haircut. Also on a side note, when I called yesterday to confirm my 4:30 appt, they told me they do NOT accept credit cards, only underhand cash, venmo, or zelle. -__- So yes, I had a 4:30 appt, not 4pm!!! read more

After a long, exhaustive search, trying to find a barbar shop that does men's hair in Baltimore, I came across this salon. I am new to Baltimore, so I am still trying to find my way around and find my local businesses. Apparently, at least right now, because of Covid, all hair salons require an appointment. Most seemed to be fully booked if you call the day of. These folks were kind enough to fit me in same day. Their pricing was reasonable (everything costs more in Baltimore, but they were pretty good). It was nice to get my hair cut, as it was getting long. This is the first haircut I have gotten in the US since Covid. I usually get my haircut in Medellin or Cali, and if I cannot get there, I sometimes just shave it off. I showed them a picture of how I like it done, and I think they did their best. I think this salon caters mostly to women, but I deseparately needed a cut. I have added pictures of my hair afterwards. I am just unsure why the sharp lines on the back of the neck and would have preferred more tapering. I am not good at explaing this, so probably partially my fault. I usually show a picture and hope for the best when I am in the US. read more

This is my second visit to this hair salon; they are consistently good. This time I went for haircut and hair makeover both. I spoke with Myna over the phone before going and she was very thorough. Even when I met her, she listened to what I wanted and suggested me babylights accordingly. I wanted something subtle but noticeable makeover. I am very happy the way it came out. I have never been one to regularly get my hair done (one time a year or longer) and that may have just changed. It had been over a year since my last hair cut/style and yesterday I was blown away by how great Virginia was. She was able to fit me in the same day for an appointment and knew exactly what I was looking for in the style. I have not been able to stop playing with and looking at my new natural perm with lowlights. She was the one who recommended the low lights, knowing that it would look better in my hair than what I had thought when I walked in. I look like a completely different person! She was beyond knowledgeable and helped me with how to care for my new hair. I can not recommend this salon enough! My hair is now healthy, bouncy, layered, beautiful, and perfectly me. I came upon Studio 1622 after experiencing terrible haircuts at my neighborhood barbershops. I (a man) have thick hair that doesn't necessarily grow "down" when it gets longer, it grows "out". On top, it's fine; I wear my hair combed back and have no problems with the length. But on the sides the hair grows out and takes on a shape of it's own. So my request at both of the local barbershops was "just leave the top alone, and taper the sides down such that it gets shorter the closer it gets to my ears/neck." Pretty straightforward. Both previous barbers butchered the sides. The end result looked like they put a bowl on my head. So, I read some good reviews about Studio 1622, and called and made an appointment. While it's not extremely difficult to find the Salon, it's not particularly easy either. But using Google maps and my iPhone direction guidance, I made it there without any problem. There is available parking on the street. My appointment was with Minya, the manager. I briefly told her about my most recent disasters with other barbers and, again, told her to leave the top alone and taper it down the sides and back. She responded "got it" and I sat back to watch. She used scissors and a comb to work on the top of the sides and back, and I could quickly see her expertise. She worked quickly but was getting excellent results. I was immediately impressed. She asked a couple of times mid-cut how it was looking, and all I could say was "great" and "perfect." She finished the lower sides and back with a comb-attached shaver - again perfect. When I had called to make the appointment, I knew the price would be $25, and that it would include a shampoo. When Minya had finished, I walked over to the shampoo station and enjoyed a nice shampoo. The woman washing my hair asked it I wanted "products", and I said "yes", assuming they would cost extra. After she finished I went back to Minya to blow dry and style my hair, again with me responding "yes" when asked if I wanted some "product." When all was done I went to pay and was told $25. Unbelievable! I gave them a generous tip. Studio 1622 Salon is now my firm choice as my go to Haircut destination. You can't go wrong with them. The Salon is not super fancy, but rather nice, clean, and comfortable. Everyone is friendly. They do accept walk-ins, but making an appointment, for me, is the way to go. They say the difference between a bad haircut and a good one is 2 weeks. It's been 2 weeks and it's still bad. I took a picture in of what I wanted, lots of layers around the face, when she turned the chair to let me see, it was a Rachel cut. Not even close to what had been shown to her. All I could think of was getting home, washing it and restyling it, but that didn't help much. After the first day all of the ends want to flip outward like a 90s housewife cut. The only thing I can do is wear it back for however many months it takes for it to be long enough to go somewhere else to have it cut properly. Icing on the cake? My old stylist moved out of the area (waaah!) so I needed to find a replacement. After reading tons of reviews, I decided to try Studio 1622. Every single aspect of my visit was ahhh-mazing. Scheduling was a breeze - they answered the phone immediately, and I had an appointment within the week for a time that worked with my schedule. I arrived a few minutes late because I accidentally parked too far away, but they were perfectly gracious and welcoming when I showed up. They put me in a chair right away, gave me cold water (and later wine!), genuinely listened to my ideas and concerns, offered very wise advice, and got right to work. The entire time, everyone in the salon from clients to employees was just chatting and laughing and having a great time. The price was beyond reasonable when it was all over. However, as positively wonderful as all of that was, none of it is the best part: I had to take an anti-convulsant drug for a bit that made my hair fall out. My once long, thick hair was now short and very thin. I was mortified and shed many tears. I was so self conscious that I have been wearing clip-in hair extensions almost daily for months. Virginia did such an incredible job coloring, cutting, and styling my hair that for the first time in a long time, I felt beautiful and confident again. I happily left the salon without my extensions, positively beaming. I even got complimented-twice!-on the way back to my car. I wanted to hug her. This type of service is rare these days. Her entire team was lovely and welcoming, and they spent their time (masked) cleaning and disinfecting. Except when they played with crayons and did a cute braid - just for fun, free of charge - on a little girl who was waiting for her dad to get his hair cut. Being from NY, I don't know too many salons in Baltimore. I was overcharged by my usual salon and was therefore on the lookout of a new honest salon. I found this salon on Yelp and decided to give it a try after reading the review of someone who had an awful hair cutting experience at my previous salon and how Studio 1622 fixed that disastrous hair cut. Service- Trying out Studio 1622 was one of my best hair cut decision. My hair cut was done by Virginia at Studio 1622 and she is a such a sweetheart. Her hair styling skills are excellent and she takes care in listening to what exactly I want. Price- Studio 1622 was also very upfront about the price when I called them up to book the appointment- no hidden charges or additional surprises after the service. Moreover, unlike my previous salon they don't even ask if you would like to tip them. Hair cut- I have very short hair that needs trimming every 2-3 weeks and Virginia did a great job in trimming exactly the right amount along with hair coloring to cover my grey hair. I paid around 130 with tips (hair cut $40 and color $65). I would definitely like to visit them again. read more

It smelled, the floors were filthy, and the staff seemed eager to do the worst job possible as quickly as possible. I've encountered bad hair salons before, but this one really takes the cake. I don't see why anyone would ever go here. It smelled like dog poo inside. Maybe someone had tracked it in on their shoes, I don't know. This review is mostly for Virginia rather than the studio as a whole. I came in to the hair salon asking for ash blonde highlights to be put in my dark ash hair. I had already gotten highlights before, but the hair stylist hadn't made them as ash color as I'd liked, so I asked Virginia if this is something she thought she could accomplish. She said "yes." I decided on a full highlight at ash blonde with hopes that she would tone the previous hair (which was a bit brassy) into a more ash blonde with these new highlights. She applied full highlights with "blue" (no idea what that means) and then preceded to brush the rest of the highlight color into the rest of my hair, explaining that this would take the brassiness out of the rest of it. That didn't make sense to me, but I'm not a stylist so I went with it. When my hair was rinsed it was playboy bunny blonde. UGH! Not what I wanted. After me explaining that it wasn't what I wanted and nearly crying right there in the chair, her daughter came to help me. She applied some ash brown lowlights and steel coloring. In the chair this seemed to fix it, until I realized my hair was grossly mismatched in color the following day while at home (pictures). I came back to get it fixed and Virginia told me that the poor coloring was due to my hormones and that she'd done as much as could be done with my hair. This was infuriating but I needed my hair fixed at least a little since I was embarrassed by it (there are pictures to review). Virginia's daughter then put in highlights again to the bottom portion of my hair and then the steel coloring again. I appreciated her helping me even though I could tell she was a bit annoyed that I'd come back. Virginia later blow dried my hair and praised herself on how light she'd gotten my hair the first time, even though I'd never asked for playboy bunny hair. She continued on about my hormones being the culprit for the two toned appearance of my hair. She never apologized for me having to return or helped her daughter plain my correction. She doesn't seem to take criticism well which shows she's an old dog that can no longer be taught. Poor service. Rants about the minorities in the community and how unsafe Downtown Baltimore is because of them (even though no employees live in the city). Employees and owner continuously use foul language and demean people. Why come here? You're certainly not going to find good service or end product. If you're a Baltimorean, this is exactly the type of establishment we don't need in the city, and you're better off simply going somewhere else -- anywhere else. read more

This place is fantastic. I when to get a trim at another location and I left there looking as if they used a weed whacker on me. I was in full panic mode mainly due to the fact I asked for a trim and they took 4 inches. It looked horrible long one side short on the other. I wanted to cry all day. But I found this place online and said lets do it. When I walked in I knew I was in the right place the women there were so friendly it was if I knew them for years. They took pity on me and my mangled hair cut and handed me the much needed glass of wine. My stylist said "don't worry I'm gonna make you look great" and she delivered.
