On New Year's Eve we had 8:00 PM reservations at the Blu Tavern. We had dinner there a few times previously and had good service and food. New Year's Eve, however, was completely different altogether. We were seated promptly when we arrived at 7:45 PM. The restaurant was busy but not overly. Our waitress, Samantha, brought us menus and said she would be back soon. We waited for twenty-five minutes but she did not return. By that point in time, about a third of the other patrons had finished their dinners and left. We had wanted to order drinks and appetizers but Samantha never returned. So, I walked to the bar to order our drinks. The bartender stated he would convey our drink order to Samantha and she would bring the drinks directly. When I returned to our table, another waitress, Heather, was relating to my wife she would now be our waitress. She made sure our drinks came right out. We then ordered our appetizers and entrees. By this time, we had already been there for an hour. The table of two patrons behind us had been there prior to our arrival and was still waiting for their order. Obviously, they were waiting longer than we had waited for food. Our food was served about forty-five minutes after ordering. By this time, we had been there for two hours waiting to eat and the restaurant was two-thirds empty. However, the veal was extremely rubbery and undercooked. We elected not to complain and just leave. By the time we left, we had been there for two and one-half hours. While we like the bartender from Harrisburg and Heather, the lack of service during the night and the undercooked veal is enough to bring us to the conclusion we will not return to the Blu Tavern. Two plus hours for a simple, but undercooked, dinner with drinks is rather poor. We expected better but we were sadly disappointed. read more

My husband and I had a lovely dinner at the Blu Tavern for our anniversary. The food was delicious (we had the Maryland Crab Cakes and the Broiled Haddock), and the service was spot on. Our server, Kyra, was attentive and we did not feel rushed to finish our meal. We will return to the Blu Tavern and will recommend it to our friends. Haven't been to the Blu Tavern in (I hate to say it) over 40 years. The building itself hasn't changed it's nestled roadside along Route 209 outside of Minersville. I love the rustic elegance of this timeless restaurant. The menu is sort of a throwback to simpler times when the quality and preparation of the food was more important than the number of items on the menu. I had the Haddock Parmesan which came with 2sides, the wife had the Fried Shrimp we both enjoyed a baked sweet potato & broccoli for our sides. Portion sizes were perfect we finished our meals but unfortunately no room for dessert even though the Blu Tavern has a full bar we opted for coffee Sue our server did an excellent job and she refilled the coffee with a smile without even being asked! Like I said the Blu Tavern is timeless in not only the quality of their food but also the quality of their hospitality we definitely will be returning and not waiting 40 yrs! read more

My wife and I visited this restaurant several years ago. It wasn't a pleasant experience back then. Service was extremely slow, despite the dinning area being only 1/2 full. The food was sub-par, my sea food was in 1/2" of butter. Visiting this restaurant again was a bad idea. The ceiling tiles are still dirty. The service has gotten worse. (If that's possible) we waited 45 minutes for salads and our appetizers. The salad consists of iceberg lettuce, 4 grape tomatoes and a single straw of red onion. THAT was a joke Then immediately, we were given our entree. My med rare steak was made med-well. And the lobster was over cooked. Total bill was $147 This was not worth $50 I have been a cook/chef and catering business owner. Your staff is in desperate need of training. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Great food, great atmosphere. Our waitress Sue was awesome. That being said, I would NOT recommend this place if you have a large group. We had 15 in our party. It took about an hour and a half for the food to come out of the kitchen then poor Sue had NO support from the other wait staff, the kitchen, or the bar staff. She had to serve 15 of us all by herself and the restaurant was not busy other than us. This is obviously not her fault but a management problem. read more

Great food, great staff, but owner doesn't care about his customers or employees. Don't sit in the bar area on a hot summer day. You sweat like crazy bc it's hot bc the owner is too cheap to add an AC or even a ceiling fan. I feel so bad for his employees. Onto the food. Haven't been here for years. Place did not change much. decided to celebrate dads b-day. We ordered prime rib, Maryland crab cakes, ravioli, and haddock. Everything was excellent. Prime was cooked almost perfect, crab cakes were very meaty and tasty. everything was hot when it came out. Service was great. Never had an empty glass. Will be back for sure. I have been here for many different meals and many different occasions. We had our rehearsal dinner here as well as my father's funeral dinner. Bob and his family treat you like family. No matter what meal you come for, everything is delicious. My favorites are their spaghetti (their sauce is my absolute favorite!) and the broiled haddock. They serve homemade bread with dinner and brunch and it is delicious! We love to come for Sunday brunch as well! The service is warm and friendly from the time you walk in the door. The hostess, the servers, the bartenders, and the owners. Try it out and I'm sure you will be delighted. I'm rather shocked by the few negative reviews on here, but I do see that some are from years ago. Don't let them dissuade you! Try the Blu and I bet you'll be glad that you did! read more

We have been talking about coming here for awhile as seeing they had prime rib on the menu for friday night. We decided to take the plunge and tried it out tonight. We seen they had prime rib on Friday arrived here at 7:00 pm, I asked if they had prime rib still available was informed that yes they do at 7:52 I got informed they only had enough for 1 king prime rib not the 2 that we ordered. So now one of us is settling for a delmonico at half price and a round of drinks. One hour and twins and we still do not have food. Honestly about ready to walk out 11 tables 3 waitresses and who knows how many kitchen staff. Food critique: Fried Calamari homemade marinara:3 stars ,+ light fresh batter not heavy grease logged, -needs a bit of salt and pepper in the batter Salad: 2 stars the ranch was a homemade or reduced with mayo . The dressing was sitting heavily in my cup and dumped into a pile not easily poured. Prime Rib: 4 stars it was beautifully seasoned, just slightly under the king size I had seen everyone else recieved. Delmonico: 2 stars not seasoned all I tasted was the char from the grill but not much else Service: 1 star took over a half hour to get our appetizer and salad. Attitude :1 star took forever to take our order very impersonal Our waitress admitted it was only her 2nd night here! The bar is a dive bar where we thought we were going to be so, we dressed down in jeans and long sleeved shirts. However, we went to the dining side and we were a bit under dressed or felt that we were. Therefore, felt that we were percieved as having little funds.I did feel sorry having worked previously at all sides of the restaurant business. She came out as soon as she did find things out. Also, waitstaff, is stretched out between bar and dining room not allowing them to take care of our patrons. Our bill at 1.5 hours was still high considering they told us the delmonico would be at half price + the next round of drinks on them. The delmonico and the steak were the same price. We only got comped 11$ which was the total for 2 double drinks!!!! Not at all happy and will go down the road to BEHM'S restaurant on saturday night for prime rib from now on! My husband and I had company a while back and we decided to try the Blu. A friend of ours swears the steaks are great. Maybe you have to know someone to get served. We walked in and nobody seated us. We walked to a table after standing akwardly. Then we watched the waitress serve the neighboring table and walk back and forth several times ignoring us. After 15 minutes of being ignored we walked out. It was mid week and there were only 2 other tables in the place besides us so they could not say they were busy. It was beyond annoying -- it was rude. Never again. read more

I had a sweet dinner with my son here. We were the only people in the restaurant the whole time. The decor didn't do much for me, but the food was all good. We split jalapeno poppers, buffalo chicken strips, and pasta blu. The Pasta Blu was especially yummy. read more

Just went again a few Sundays ago for brunch and it is still very good! Again, loved the waffles.. the soup was DELICIOUS! Thinking about going again soon, now I'm hooked! It seems a lot of people go in there after Sunday church services so showing up in a ratty shirt and jeans will probably make you feel out of place. read more

We come in from New York, and love the fact that a fireplace is blazing in winter. The Manhattan cocktails are first-rate, the service always very friendly and accomodating. The pork chops are wonderfully prepared, though the menu is rather limited, but understandably so. We keep going back again and again. The food is good; the Manhattans are beyond compare, and the fire place is fantastic! read more

I've heard this place being raved about for years and tonight we finally decided to try it. What a mistake! We had a reservation for 7:30 and entered through the restaurant door. There was no hostess there to greet us. We stood there quite awkwardly for a few minutes wondering if we had entered through the wrong door. Finally my 61 year old mother took charge and walked across the dining room to the cash register and informed the waitress that we had a reservation. The waitress looked at her like she had three heads and told her we would have to wait. We waited. And waited. There were empty tables but we just stood there being ignored. My mom spoke up again when the waitress walked by and she said "excuse me, we have a 7:30 reservation." The waitress looked at her and snarled "I know. I left a note." Finally a waitress came within 5 feet and waved us over towards a very large banquet style table. There were only 5 of us and this table could've seated 15 or more people. She handed out menus and said "I don't know who your waitress is" and walked away. You would think it couldn't get much worse but it does. When our waitress finally showed up she came over and told us she would be with us in a few minutes, rattled off the specials and walked away without even taking our drink orders. Every other table in the restaurant was served a bread basket except our table. Our table was set with small bread plates but we were never given any bread! When I looked at my bread plate it was filthy. I started looking at the plates at the empty seats at the table and most of them were filthy as well. Only a few were actually clean. They looked like they had been stored in a dirty basement and not washed before putting them on the table. The food was a huge disappointment. It was way below average. It was so cold in the restaurant that the food was cold before we were even halfway done eating. I ordered a sandwich and the lettuce that was served on it was wilted and the tomatoes were obviously frozen and thawed out, devoid of any flavor. Everyone else at the table agreed that the food was subpar. Those who ordered their meat cooked well done got it medium and the one who wanted it cooked medium rare got it well done. We were not even offered a dessert menu after the meal. We won't be returning to this restaurant and I cannot recommend it to anyone else. read more

I ate here for the first time yesterday for a large family dinner (abt 60 of us). This place has been here for many, many years, and has always had a great reputation. Now I know why. The food was absolutely delicious. You couldn't have made it better at home. It was a seated/served dinner, we had a very large group that filled one banquet room. The wait staff was very fast, efficient, and friendly. The large platters consisted of roast chicken breast stuffed with homemade potato filling, REAL mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, and corn. Handcrafted food, nothing from a box! Dessert was a cherry ice cream with marashinos and nuts in it. Again, delicious. Nice, quiet place with simple, delicious food. I peeked into the other dining rooms and they were very clean, various sized seating areas, tables dressed with nice white linens. It was fairly busy for a Thursday afternoon. When we are in the area again, we will definitely back. A great place for just dinner or an event of sorts - they have several banquet rooms. They even packaged up any left over dinners for our lovely hosts to take home. DO try the Blu! They are a wonderful family-owned establishment in this sea of chain eateries. read more
