We've been to the pub side several times. That experience is always five star. This time we decided to lunch on the restaurant side. We had heard they had a new chef and the food was good. Only one other person ordering food, and he was sitting at the bar. Two employees. Waitress came over. Dining companion wanted a Bloody Mary. Waitress, we don't have those here! Ice teas then. We start looking at the menu and the weekend specials. Bloody Mary is on the specials menu! When she comes back to bring our beverages and take our food order, we tell her, "you might want to cross the drink special off!" She's asks why, we tell her. She just shrugged. Didn't say let me check, I could be wrong. Nothing. We order. I want the Clams Casino. We are out. Are you sure? Yes. I order the fish and chips. One Reuben. Food comes. Fish looked liked frozen, deep fried tenders. Fries were hot. Coleslaw tasteless. So disappointing. Reuben was just an average deli sandwich, nothing special, nothing wrong. Mid. Waitress never came back to give us tea refills and we never got the lemon we asked for. Best part of this experience was the hot, crispy fries. The waitress, even though pleasant she wasn't on top of her game. We literally were her only table and it's not like she was running back and forth to the other side. We have been customers at the Crimson House for many years, so when my sister-in-law suggested it for our Black Friday dinner, we were happy to make reservations. The food used to be so good. Emphasis on the words "used to be". We should have known we were in trouble when the drink my daughter ordered, which sounded like a rich cocoa-mint drink, tasted like watered-down Swiss Miss. The appetizer--loaded fries--was wholly uninspiring. The fries were clearly frozen, and had not been thoroughly heated. There was little seasoning. When dinner arrived, things went sideways. Burgers at the Crimson House used to be huge, but my daughter's looked like it had come from Wendy's. It lacked any garnish--not even any lettuce. My NY strip steak was sub-par, much denser and less tender than I expect from a NY strip. And WHO puts steak on top of the vegetables? The steak was placed on top of the mashed sweet potatoes and broccoli that was shamefully overcooked--AND cold. Apparently the crab cakes were really good. I couldn't speak to that, however. We won't be going there again anytime soon. What a shame. read more

We started with the pretzel board--cherry peppers with an interesting sweetness, four cheeses, pepperoni, marinated mushrooms--all surrounded by a delicate bread-like pretzel. The salmon on mashed sweet potatoes has a light crunch and a slight kick from spice. My friends had the crab cakes and a burger. The crab cakes were described as "the best." We didn't save room for dessert and had it anyway. We shared crème brûlée and a chocolate peanut butter bomb. The fantastic dinner was made even better by Megan and Tabatha our servers. The good: The owner (John, IIRC) and staff here are awesome - just genuine, nice people. The servers were all kind and pleasant, and John went above and beyond to be accommodating. I can't sing their praises more. Oh! And the cocktails! Reasonably priced at $8 and very, very well done. The bad: The food was solid; none of my party had any complaints about it... except the portion size. There is not enough food. The toppings on the nachos were scarce, the sushi roll was tiny, the skewers were minimal. It isn't billed as small plates or tapas, or priced that way. Honestly, just throw some cheap sides on there to beef it up and we would have had zero issues. The ugly: We literally had to go get more food after we left because everyone looked around in the car and agreed we were still hungry, despite spending somewhere around $75 for our group of three (granted, that included one cocktail and two beers). I'm giving them 4 stars because the food is pretty good and the service is excellent. I'd go back... just not if I was super hungry. This was our first visit to the new sports bar section of the Crimson House. They did a nice job blending the decor from the original restaurant, visually it's a nice setup. If your uncomfortable with being close to others this isn't the place for you. It's extremely tight from the bar to tables along the wall. As the crowd approached 30 plus you were shoulder to shoulder with others and sitting at the bar became uncomfortable. As a craft beer lover I thought the beer selection was underwhelming. I was surprised with two new breweries within minutes neither was on tap. We ordered a few items off the menu, the quality did not match the high price tag. It was disappointing especially since we had a good experience with the food in the original restaurant. read more

Ordered the 8 oz filet with fresh cut fries and broccoli and Caesar salad and an appetizer of crab dip. The crab dip had raw onions in it. Onion is fine in crab dip it should just be cooked. My guess on the dip is the ingredients were mixed together, place in the bread bowl and cheese tossed on top then shoved under the broiler just long enough to melt the cheese. The dip itself not ever cooked. The Caesar salad was the smallest I've ever seen. The taste was fine but so small it was almost a waste to dirty the plate it was served on. The 8 oz filet was nowhere near 8 oz. It might have made 5 oz but I'm doubting that. Looked like the butt end of the filet roast. The broccoli and fresh cut fries were ok. I know locals go to this restaurant and it's supposed to be on the classier side which the ambiance leans that way and the service is fine they just need to stop cutting corners. Besides myself and my lady there were maybe 4 other people max in the entire bar area. Is that a reflection on the way things are served now I don't know but I've been here in the past and it was far more crowded as in folks had to wait to be seated. If they keep shorting folks on meals and not preparing things that should be cooked I can understand why it's not full. I expect my meals when I eat out to be at minimum as least as good as I can prepare myself at home preferably better. This didn't even come close. HORRIBLE SERVICE. RACIST BARTENDER at very least ignorant! Only thing good that was good was the server and French fries. Waited 15 mins to be seated because a sign said "please wait to be seated" only to be told by customers that i can choose my own seat all while the owner and bartender were there having casual conversation. After we sat we had to find a bar back to give us menus and utensils. While waiting for a server the bartender came over with a lot of ATTITUDE and lack of respect for others and took our drink order. I order 2 cokes and a margarita. She then asked for my ID to confirm my age. That itself wasn't rude as I often get asked for my id. However I produced it and again told her my drink. My wife didn't have her ID so when she tried to order she was refused because she couldn't show proof of age. Again that's fine, but that's when the attitude from the bartender increased. She angrily finished taking our drink order and left. Now I'm under the assumption that my drink will be made and no further issues would arise however I was wrong. The server finally came over and took our food orders with a great smile and great energy. After waiting about 20 mins and watching the bartender make everyone else's drink but mine I inquired about it. I watched the server go over to the bartender (who clearly has no place in the industry) and receive alot of attitude to again check my ID because she didn't want to make my drink. Then after getting my ID and SCANNING IT which then confirmed my age for final time she headed back to the bartender to show confirmation and I watched her tell her she not making my drink. The reason I was given was because my wife didn't have her ID so I couldn't drink. I then asked if I was with my kids and ordered a drink would I be able to receive it; the server didn't answer but looked at me as if she knew the reason I was given was complete BS. I've worked in the restaurant industry since I was 13; and never seen such a lazy excuse. If that was the case then I should've been denied from the very beginning before any other interaction continued. I don't ever post reviews on restaurants; but this is straight up insane. The customers were nicer than the staff. And for that bartender; I hope you get fired! Your blatantly either racist or just prejudice on who you choose to serve with grace! If it wasn't for the server I promise you I've would've reacted 10x differently. She was the only one doing her job even with a smile as the situation kept growing. What's even worse is the fact this is my first date night with my wife in almost a whole year because finding child care for afternoons is expensive and hard, along with the fact I work almost 60 hours a week IN A RESTAURANT! I'm only giving this place a three because it's a seemingly nice place, and the food was actually decent. But as far as the service, it left a pretty sour taste in our mouths. Our server, seemed like she was having a bad day. which happens to everyone, but in customer service, you can't let your personal life bleed into your work life. She handed us menus and when we ordered for my daughters she said " do you want the kids one because we don't serve the entrees until at 4?" She didn't give us kids menus and when I asked she said they don't have them right now...so how am I supposed to order off a menu I don't have or entrees you aren't serving ? I ordered a side of sweet potatoes for my daughters meal and she said that the kids portion doesn't come with a side..I then stated I'd pay for it with no issue, and the face she made in rebuttal was less than professional. not sure she meant it but nonetheless it happened. I saw her wait on a table of three that came in she got their drink orders and the older woman told her son and husband that they were leaving. they got up and left. I'm not sure that was the servers fault, the older woman seemed appalled that her adult son ordered water and told him no asked him they had Guers tea or milk and when the server said no the woman seemed to have gotten angry. so I don't know if that's the servers fault for the overbearing mothers fault, but I digress. nevertheless the food and ambiance was good but this server seemed to not be at the top her game today, unfortunately. read more

Went here during my trip to Central PA. Definitely one of the nicer restaurants in the area. I generally enjoyed my meal. They were able to take our Friday night reservation pretty last minute, which we appreciated. Was pretty full but not packed. One issue was that the menu pages were all mixed up- some menus missing specials or entrees, etc. which was a bit confusing, but our waitress was great and straightened everything out. We got oysters as an app, and unfortunately there was a lot of grit & I was getting pieces of shell in my mouth; maybe weren't cleaned or shucked very well. That's the main reason my review is 3 stars and not 4, because the rest of the food was 4 star. I did like the mignonette! I got a burger as my entree and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as the fries. My companions all enjoyed their meals, and noted the lettuce chicken wraps were particularly good. First visit here to the Crimson House! A newer experience in Downtown Pottsville, PA. Rusticate designed with dark woods and brick but with a lot of charm. Sunday brunch menu for us so I am trying their Griddle Cakes with blueberries & blueberry syrup & Chorizo Sausage. The better half had the Crimson Benedict with a side of Applewood Bacon . Not overly busy when we arrived. Guess we were luck because we were seated and Drew our server came over and started our orders! Breakfast was delicious! I absolutely ADORE The Crimson House! I had my first dining experience here in 2019. We came to town to say goodbye to my baby brother who was losing his battle to stage four Cancer. Our family was desperate to have a good meal and a bit of normalcy during two weeks of sadness. We had been following The Crimson House on social media for some time and decided to take our entire family. We were floored by the amazing food, the attentiveness of the staff and the beauty of the building. Every time we came home for a visit we made a point to take our family to The Crimson House; it became a family tradition. My hubby, who is a foodie, would get excited about making the trip to see my family because he knew it meant a trip to The Crimson House (Ha). Our family dinners became a highlight of our visits. Even our pickiest eaters found the food to be divine (my daughter is a REALLY picky eater and she loves the ribs!). I was even inspired to try the lamb and I was NOT disappointed. Last October we decided to take the plunge and relocate to the area. I am not being disingenuous when I say that The Crimson House was on our list of positive reasons to move to PA. It was so refreshing to us to see the revitalization of Pottsville thanks to small businesses like this. It gives me a swell of pride to see someone take an interest in, and make an attempt to better my hometown. My family and I have had the pleasure to talk to John many times when we have visited and his passion for his business is really inspiring. I have tried almost everything on both the old and new menus and I can tell you, without any hesitation, that there is not a single thing on either menu that I would not recommend. In fact, if you asked me for a suggestion it would be really hard to chose. My two new favorites are the 'meatless balls' (Ha) and the steak kabobs. A close third would be the lamb dinner. The sides that go with each dish are to die for. I asked my hubby what his favorite dish was (for this review) and his response was 'One of everything.' On the subject of mixology, The Crimson House has some seriously amazing drink specials. Prior to moving here I really never drank anything outside of water or maybe sweet tea during a meal. The drink specials always look so amazing, so I started trying one cocktail at every visit. There is not a single thing I have tried that was not delicious, but my current favorite is the strawberry mojito (it is SO good I had two). A close second would be the Winter Pear Cocktail. No review would be complete without talking about the amazing staff. Every single time I have gone into The Crimson House I have experienced top notch service. From the bartenders to the servers to the chefs, every single person that I have met is incredibly professional, but also personable. When I go out to eat I enjoy socializing too. I had gone here prior, the place was packed and food was excellent. This experience was unfortunately much different. Upon entering, the restaurant was basically empty, unlike my prior visit where this seemed like the place "to be". The waitresses were all very friendly. However, the food was a different story. We got brunch, which took over 45 minutes of a wait for food. the side pancake we ordered was cold and dry and came out five minutes prior to our meal. Our omelettes then came out at different times as well, both missing fillings we had chosen to add to our omelettes. The waitresses were very apologetic and did not charge us for some items, which was very nice. I could tell they felt bad for the wait time, which was not their fault at all as they were constantly checking on the kitchen. We were from out of town and chose this restaurant because of they were self-described as "fine dining" on their Facebook page as we were looking for a nice sit-down dinner. If you go there with this expectation, you will surely be disappointed. Getting into the restaurant was tricky as they have 3 front doors. The layout is bizarre. It's three separate areas but they are all connected - a narrow bar with a few high tops, a loud rowdy room (we didn't look in here but it was loud AF with cursing) and in between is what I assume they are calling the "fine dining" section. The noise from the neighboring areas flowed into the dining room. We had a reservation and didn't know what door to use. Door number 1 (the bar) had an empty hostess stand. I had to hunt around the restaurant for help and got ignored several times before being told to go outside and enter through door number 2 to be seated. There is no hostess stand inside door number 2 ("fine dining"). There is one gross single stall bathroom for the ladies (in the bar area) and it always had a line. Soap was empty. Paper towels empty. We trusted our instincts and played it safe, ordering burgers and fries. The burgers and fries were very good! They were served on bamboo boards which we thought was gross and the juices from our food ran off the sides. It is COLD in here!!! Every section has a door that is constantly being opened. Our feet were frozen and we wore our coats while eating as did the people at the table next to us. We arrived at 4:45 and got our food at 5:45. Someone in our party ordered crab fries and was told they were out of those. They took an order for a Cuban and then the waitress came back later and said they were out of pork. It was very loud during dinner and you could hear the drunk people from the rooms next door yelling and swearing. Those people walked through the dining room to leave and confused people kept entering the restaurant through the dining room. This restaurant is really a bar/pub experience - not fine dining, or even restaurant quality in service, environment or overall experience. If you're looking for a loud, social environment with delicious burgers and fries, grab your parka, scarf and snow boots and head here (enter through door number 1). We would come back for a bar/pub type of experience if in town. If you're looking for an upper scale dining experience THIS IS NOT YOUR PLACE! I would avoid even if you're coming for a basic restaurant experience due to the poor service, dirty environment and overpriced food for what you get in terms of overall experience. read more

(Giant's is way better) $15 for 2 'skewers' that had 3 tiny pieces of meat on each with no sides. Nothing was seasoned. Zero salt and pepper was used on anything we ordered. I felt like i was being punked by the previous reviewers. This was the first time Yelp reviews failed me.
