It was ok but could have been better. Rainy Saturday night, coming from Stuart w an event at 9 pm afterwards, we were worried we wouldn't get in since they don't take reservations. Walked in and maybe one table full and some folks at the bar. Not a lot of time to look for other, we proceeded. Chips and Salsa are not included, rather $4. Good but I do think they might have been crazy salty as we were parched later that night. Ordered some Guac, $6, smallish serving. My daughter is a foodie and she felt it could have been store made. I split a wet burrito which wasn't wet imo. Wet Burritos have the melted cheese sauce (more liquidy)..this had melted cheese. Green and Red sauce on the side, both were good. Blue Agave is located in the heart of Downtown Vero on 14th Ave. It was founded in 2014 by one of the Downtown Boys. They are a group of childhood friends that attended St. Helen's Catholic school and who went on to own several of the businesses in downtown Vero. Ian Mock opened Blue Agave with partner Rich Nelson who already owned two other Blue Agave's, Mexican Taco and Tequila bars in Rio de Janeiro. The atmosphere of Blue Agave is fun and casual. I was drawn in at dinnertime by the amazing smells emanating down the sidewalk. When I walked in the place the restaurant was already pretty full but by the time I left it was standing room only. Inside the restaurant is a central bar and high tops and tables. A wrestling match was being shown on the TV. Outside were two more tables. I liked all of the cute decorations and pictures they had around the restaurant. I started with the Gran Raspberry margarita made with infused El Jimador Silver Tequila, Grand Marnier Peach Raspberry, Fresh Raspberry, and Fresh Sour. The drink arrived rimmed in sugar as requested and it was strong. It was one of the best margarita's I have ever had. The menu is arranged by soups and appetizers, nachos and chips, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, salads, entrees, burgers, and sides. After a few sips of my cocktail I was more than ready for the carne asada burrito I had ordered. It took a really long time to get my burrito and the first bite revealed the beans that I had requested they leave off. Fortunately they got another one out to me quickly and they even added more steak in it. I really enjoyed it but I wish it came with chips and salsa. I would have ordered some if I had known it was just going to be the burrito. I guess I should have read more closely. In any case despite a few hiccups I really enjoyed my visit here, especially that margarita. I would stop back in the next time I am in the area. read more

Nice little restaurant with delicious food and yummy margaritas! Wr tried a few drinks, their Mango Habanero cocktail was good but packs a kick of spice so heads up! We got the shrimp cocktail and shared some nachos. The chips and salsa they give you in the beginning is very good. That salad has good flavor. Our table had burrito's- excellent and two of us took half home - and quesadillas were delicious. Burritos were a good size and plenty of meat. Dessert, Nicole recommended the churro bites and they were out of this world! Hot, sweet and chocolate in the middle. Light and fluffy and great Carmel dipping sauce. Yum! We only came in for drinks but after speaking with our server we would definitely like to come back and try the food. He said there are specials everyday and looking at the board they sounded great. We just ordered chips and salsa with guacamole because it was late. The Blue Agave Margarita was disappointing as it had very little heat. It had been awhile since we'd eaten here so thought we'd poke in and revisit for dinner. The indoor temperature was really warm and even though we were all in shorts, we found ourselves sweating through the entire meal. It was 30 minutes from the time we were seated before the waiter took our food order. It was another 30 minutes before food was delivered to our table. It's disappointing that unlike most authentic Mexican restaurants, that this establishment does not offer a complimentary bowl of salsa and basket of tortilla chips while waiting for your meals. If you want that here, it's an a-la-carte item for $4. I also don't like the fact that entrees don't automatically come with a dollop of sour cream. Yep, that would be a $1 upcharge as well. What Mexican restaurant doesn't give you a little spoonful of sour cream with your dish? The large mango habanero margarita was good with adequate alcohol content. Price tag $18. Our server was very friendly, but service was terribly slow. The food itself was just average. Nothing that makes this place stand out. The prices are moderate, but again that's only for an entree which comes with no sides unless ordered separately a-la-carte. There is only one or two main entrees on the menu that do include sides and the priced as such. Overall, this restaurant could improve with faster service from the kitchen and lowering the indoor temperature for a more comfortable setting during meals. It would also be helpful if they had a website where their menu can be viewed along with other helpful information. Little changes like courtesy chips and salsa and a splash of sour cream with entrees would be a plus! read more

Popped in on a whim. Its in a fun location where there are a number of other establishments to choose from. The atmosphere has a bar feel but is very comfortable. Prices are fair and the food was very good. Taco prices are comparable to Taco Dive as well which is within walking distance. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Great night out at this Bar/Restaurant in old town Vero! We took out of town guest and had a fun and tasty night out. Great drink options; I like the Old Patron Marg. They also have a large tequila selection. Several of us had the short rib dishes. So tasty and tender! It is making my mouth water as I write. Dinner here last night was very nice. The ambiance is more that of a bar or cafe than a restaurant, but that's ok. The chips and guacamole were delicious and the portion size was generous. The main offerings on the menu are tacos...albeit several different varieties. My party of four had carnitas tacos, fish tacos, stuffed mushroom, and chicken. What I like is that this is not the sort of Mexican with a lot of sauce, rice, beans and melted cheese that all winds up tasting the same. The food here is much more authentic. read more

Stupendous!!!!!! It can be downright hard to find good quality Mexican food anywhere let alone in Vero Beach. Blue Agave you delivered! First shout out to our waiter! I can't remember his name but he's a nice kid. He did a wonderful job explaining things and I ordered the tostada with the short rib as the protein. My other half ordered the shrimp taco and the fish taco. She loved it. We got chips, salsa guacamole and queso. It was massive the amount of chips you get. The tostada was amazing. Husband and I went to Blue Agave on Wednesday May 25, 2022. We don't get many date nights as he's a trucker and always out of town. We decided to give Blue Agave a shot and boy do I wish we hadn't. We got the Queso with chorizo as an appetizer. On the way to out table the candle went out. By the time our server brought a lighter to reliant it the cheese had totally congealed. There was no offer made to replace it or make it right in anyway. Could jot taste the TINY amount of chorizo inside. I had Carne Asada Nachos. Hubby got 2 Carne Asada tacos ($7.00 EACH) the meat was completely tasteless in both dishes. They had to douse the nachos in their "salsa" that is more of a puree' to try to hide the fact that the nachos were completely tasteless. When the server asked how our food was I said "not great" she completely ignored my answer and continued with her speel about the check. She was uninterested in how the meal was. 02/10. Blue Agave-Vero Beach-2.25-Stars "As Americans, we tend to look at Mexican food as nachos, which is not Mexican food really - they don't eat them." -- Anthony Bourdain With several of my new favorite places to dine, when the city of Vero Beach pops up as my next destination to review an eatery, my taste buds go into overdrive and it's all I can do to maintain the speed limit on the way down the coast. Approaching Historic Downtown Vero Beach I was again taken in by the "main street of yesteryear" feel inspired by the well kept, tree-lined streets and quaint shops, boutiques and restaurants that line both sides of said streets. Sharing parking space with a beauty salon and a sporting goods store as well as the rest of the area, it was hard to judge how popular Blue Agave was with the locals and so with open mind and taste buds at the ready, I entered the sand yellow (maybe?) colored building and went to work. My first thought was that I mistakenly walked on to a movie set as my server, Jimena, was obviously straight out of central casting and here for the part of the Aztec Goddess. She defined grace, charm, and eloquence and reminded me of Buddy Rich at the wrong gig...way out of place. Trying not to gawk at her natural beauty, I placed an order for a fish taco (Mahi), a pork belly taco as well as sides of slaw, yucca fries and pickled vegetables. Noting the "full" bar I also asked for a 12-year-old single malt and was sadly informed the only Scotch they stocked was Johnny Walker Black. Not that that is a bad blend, it's just not a single malt nor is it indicative of having a full bar. However, I would be doing them a disservice if I didn't mention the "craft" margaritas they offer as they certainly seemed interesting. I know it's cliche and it might even be sexist these days (honestly, I can't keep up with the changing winds in today's world, so please forgive me if I overstep my bounds) but, I couldn't help but think to myself, "What the hell is a girl like that doing in a place like this?" as Jimena graciously approached with my order. Asking me if I needed anything else, she adroitly turned and professionally went about her job duties. Enjoying the aromas drifting up from my plates, I grabbed the fish taco and commenced to reviewin'. The tortillas were authentic corn tortillas and had the texture, smell and taste of perhaps being made on site? I failed to ask and as it wasn't mentioned in the menu, maybe not. Either way, they were the real deal and delicious. The Mahi they enveloped, however, was not. It was previously frozen, low-grade fish that made me sad. The saving grace here, other than the wraps was the slaw. It was well seasoned and popped on my tongue with delicious flavor. The Pork Belly taco (carnitas) were also snuggled lovingly inside the same real corn tortillas as their menu mate the Mahi, however, they too were sad. The meat was a tad on the dry side telling me it was slightly over cooked. Pork does not need to be pale white and dry in order to be safe for consumption people (see updated USDA recommendations for meat temps). The side of yucca (Cassava) fries were not made in house and disappointingly were the fried from frozen kind. The pickled vegetables, on the other hand, were fresh with exceedingly scrumptious pickling spices and as the slaw above, swooped in with a late pick 6 and saved this plate. The rating reflects the fresh tasting corn tortillas, the delicious slaw and the delectable pickled veggies, however, the rest of the items were "meh" at best. What this place needs are ingredients and execution that reflects the awesomeness that is Jimena. As it is, the food is way out of its league, so to speak, with an Aztec Queen walking it from the kitchen. They need to seriously up their quality of food and preparation if they want to justify this relationship. As it is, they are lucky she hasn't broken it off. Our AIRBNB host SETH recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Our sons nachos were fabulous and more than enough to take back to hotel and teammates. My tostada with carnitas was fresh and filling. The right amount of ingredients to satisfy my picky palette. The wife's tacos were spot on and More than filling. We strongly recommend the margaritas. Mine had cucumber with a spicy rim. Not bad. My wife, I think had a mango one then had two. And the beer was cold. Mmmm The greeter at the door was very nice and hospitable and eager to help.
