Well, there arent a lot quality dining options in Vero Beach - but Blue Agave is one of the local establishments that is doing something to raise the level of the local average. Rating 4B because of limited, albeit well above average, options. The food isnt fancy, nor complicated - if you're looking for taqeueria or real Tex-Mex - then you might be disappointed. But if satisfied with tasty 'mexican style' dishes whose tastes are well balanced in a satisfying presentation - then you're in the right place. Simple, tasty, satisfying. One thing that always impresses me is a bar that takes its drinks seriously; drinks that carefully conceptualized, tested, crafted and consistently reproduced. Blue Agave does particularly well on this front, with their various infused tequilas (and resultant specialty margaritas) and homemade, infused, sangria's. They've also a broad tequila section which will satisfy the pickiest of connesiuers. We prefer bar seating - but plan to arrive early to score a seat. Restaurant seating is certainly fine and service is good to be very good. It's not a huge restaurant and there can be some congregation around the bar area which made my friends navigation in a wheel chair challenging. Evenings can be a little noisy, particularly Fridays. I thought this place was great. Yea, ok the wait was a little longer than we were quoted, but we were given the option to sit outside and turned it down. The art and the vibe are very cool. The staff was also super nice and the owner was on the floor chatting with folks. I had a French and an Italian Marg, both delicious. My nachos were bomb and hubby was happy with his enchiladas. I am in town for work and on a local recommendation I decided to check out Blue Agave. I have to say, if didn't disappoint! I started with a Blue Agave margarita (I felt morally obligated), and it was spectacular. I also tried a house margarita and I have to say, while it was good, the Blue Agave was worth the extra money. The chips, salsa and guacamole were served in a huge tin bowl. The salsa was good, but I loved the chunks of truly fresh avocado in the guacamole. For my meal, I had the taco salad. I have to say, there was barely a stitch of lettuce but I didn't care. I ate it with chips and enjoyed every bite. The beef was flavorful and the cowboy beans were delicious. I will definitely be back! read more

Big fan of Blue Agave! The décor is great, check out the art work - very fun. Makes for a festive atmosphere. Live music on certain nights of the week as well. Definitely review the specials board each time you go. I had an amazing tamale (spicy pork) that was delicious. Happy hour drink specials are a must! Chips and Salsa are really good! As a mexican I was so so so disappointed in the food here but I shouldn't have expected authentic food to be completely honest. The food is bland and lacks character the only dish I enjoyed were the chips and salsa. The atmosphere is casually fabulous. This is definitely one of Vero's cool new young places. I love the wood decor and warm lighting. From the minute we were seated I got a negative feeling about this restaurant. The laminated menus were filthy. Took a bit to get our drink order. One positive was the heavy pour on the top shelf tequila! Salsa was tasteless. We had to doctor it up with condiments on the table. When the food arrived it was cold. The manager was very accommodating, however my husbands burrito was worse the second time. Our waitress never introduced herself or mumbled a word throughout service. Me and my wife are driving around looking for some food around 8 o'clock came across this place thought it would be good in downtown area but was badly mistaken. We order the guacamole when it came to our table tasted very very strange sent it back for chips and salsa salsa was very watery no flavor. My wife ordered fish tacos and I ordered chicken burrito again it was OK basic lacking flavor but the big punch to the stomach what's the price $15 for a burrito and I believe my wife's was around the same price spent almost $40 after tip. Was here twice before and it was great. Tonight was terrible. I asked our waitress if there was a drink special. She said what? I repeated. Her answer was.. not that i know of no. This place sucks!!!! Service was horrible (one server for whole restuarsnt), food is extremely overpriced and atmosphere is smelly and loud. Paid $16 for a "short rib" burrito that was 90% rice and beans and barely any meat, and the meat I could find was dull, flavorless and basically pulled beef. Also ordered a shrimp and jalapeño burrito that was also predominantly rice and beans and the jalapeños were pickled out of a jar, SERIOUSLY no fresh jalapeños for $15?!? Chipotle serves better Mexican food. Charged $4 for Chili's quality chips and puréed flavorless "salsa". Margaritas were ok but the bartender "Catchi" who we ordered food and drinks from was horrendous. Constantly asking "you want another margarita?" But never asked about our food or anything! All he cared about was selling more margaritas and completely abandoned us for anything else. We went for drinks and dinner, ended up leaving after drinks only. Several red flags had us wanting to leave shortly after margaritas (which were ok). Examples include, greasy food splattered laminated menu, inattentive service by fairly unpleasant server (side note: 4 other tables max occupied), and disgusting restrooms. Downtown Vero needs authentic Mexican. Management needs to elevate the experience a little, improve the food quality from what I read and saw, and take pride in cleanliness. I'd like to try going again but probably won't unless changes are made. read more

I never understand Mexican places that charge for chips and salsa. It costs $4 and for two people the amount of chips they serve is ridiculous. It's probably more wasteful than anything. Chips are nothing to brag about. Then the amount of salsa given is hardly enough. I had the bbq chicken burrito which was good. My bf had the ground beef burrito which he liked. The waitress misunderstood his request for a side of cowboy beans and said they were in the burrito. The burrito comes with beans anyway and even if they put the cowboy beans inside there was no bacon flavor. Again this cost us $4 more. read more

Visited on a Friday night and the place was packed. Staff was very accommodating, and soon we were seated. We had the shrimp ceviche as an app and it was wonderful. I had a vegetable burrito for my entree and it was well prepared, and as requested, cheese free. Fresh food with great flavor. Three suggestions for improvement: 1. Chips and Salsa: I don't mind if you charge me for chips and salsa but if you do, deliver a quality product. We were served chips which were cooked well in advance, possibly fried at an incorrect temp. The salsa was just tomato juice no other flavor or spices. When the commercial bottle of table hot sauce has more flavor than your prepared salsa you have a problem. 2. The noise! Mentioned in several other reviews, its almost deafening. Perhaps a good commercial grade carpet for the cement floor, and some foam acoustic treatment for the ceiling would help. 3. Ice tea charged by the glass? Granted it was only $2.50, but charge me more even $3.50 and keep the refills complimentary. Overall a great place, with great fresh food and a great decor and staff. We will be back. read more

Just moved to Vero Beach via Los Angeles. A friend who owns property in the area said to forget about Mexican food in Vero. Glad to find out he was wrong. With my first shot at finding a Mexican restaurant, this was a good find. Not your typical Mexican with chips, salsa, combinations with rice and beans and that is fine with me. I like that stuff, but good to find some authentic Mexican with a flair. I had the Taco's Tinga De Pollo with rice, and cowboy beans. Tacos were great, beans, good and rice was just ok. Desert was Capirotoda. Excellent!!! The waitress and staff were very helpful and friendly. Only complaint would be that it was really loud. Felt like more of a bar than a restaurant. I've only been here twice and ordered the same thing both times but I have to say they have the BEST nachos I've ever had. As a vegetarian it can sometimes be frustrating at what menus offer for us non-meat eaters so you can imagine my delight when Blue Agave had vegetarian nachos that didn't just mean plain cheese on tortillas. They have fresh roasted vegetables and black beans on delicious tortillas. It really is a culinary delight. The atmosphere is also very cool with unique paintings on the wall. My caveat to this review is that Mexican isn't one of my favorite types of food and I don't drink tequila. That being stated, the service, atmosphere, drinks, decor and artwork were all solid and I would recommend it for anyone. The bar takes up most of the space in the restaurant with the tables around the outside walls, so it definitely has more of the bar-vibe and patronage and the noise level is typically energetic. Waitress asked if he wanted sour cream and/ or guacamole with it. He got a tiny tiny container of each to the tube of $3. Wish waitstaff would just say it is an upcharge.
