First of all, Blue Baker's food is always very yummy, fresh, and seems to be made with quality ingredients. It is has been a regular breakfast and lunch spot for me throughout my time here in College Station. Honestly, I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review of Blue Baker. All the employees are super nice and helpful. However, this most recent trip stood out to me in particular. I had forgotten to ask for my food to go, but when the server, Andrew, realized that I wanted it to go, he quickly and kindly packaged up my items without a fuss. I also saw a man accidentally drop his sandwich, he was also quickly and kindly helped. It really stood out to me that the servers are all so friendly and willing to make sure that your experience at Blue Baker is enjoyable. I love blue Baker. Simple, delicious, fresh! When I had to eat gluten free I lived got their Greek salad with chicken. Now I get to splurge occasionally an dhave sandwiches. I've never eaten anything here that I didn't like. The salads are gigantic and filling. Most days the half salad is good for me. Don't pass up on their desserts! The cookies are so yummy! The girls that operate the Togo window are never friendly. I am always very kind, tip and try to make conversation but they are always quick to dismiss customers and never personable. I always request (and pay for extra ranch) and the last few times did not get it in my bag. The last time I checked before driving off and there was none in the bag. I asked the worked and she said "it is in your bag", and I said no ma'am it's not. She seemed extremely bothered that she had to get ranch for me and still only gave me half of what I paid for. At that point it didn't seem productive to continue to ask so I just left. read more

This is a college station staple. While they've expanded to Austin recently, this will forever be my Cstat tradition. I've never gone here and had food I don't like. Their food is all made in house. Super fresh. Their pastries, sandwiches, pizzas, and breads are to die for. The only thing that's subpar would be their lattes, but who is really going here for that. Their loaves make fantastic gifts for all occasions, and they always have free sample bowls out. Their drink machine is something to admire: damn near every soda AND they have both crunchy Sonic ice and traditional ice. Goals af. I come to Blue Baker all the time, and I go to the Austin location when I'm in town. The Austin location is very nice, but I don't think other people "get" it, it's always empty. The University location is setup for studying, the Dominick location is the one where you meet other people for lunch. I'm writing a review today because the ordering process here is so awkward. It's the only thing I don't like about Blue Baker. There are different places to order different things. It takes forever to be helped, even when the place is empty. For example, this morning, I counted 7-8 people behind the counter, moving in and out of the kitchen, restocking chips and making catering orders. There were 5 people standing around waiting for their order to be taken, and after they were handed food platters, awkwardly standing in line waiting for someone to come to to the unstaffed cash register. Finally, one of the people in front of us asked the general manager if he could put someone at the cash register, and only then did it happen. There's got to be a better way. I'd recommend Blue Baker's management take a look at how Panera handles staffing and prep; they have a very similar process, they also do a big catering business, but the ordering process is simpler and faster for customers. read more

I came here after 2 yrs in College Station to see what all the fuss is about. The University location is huge - intimidating, even. The line to order is confusing with several signs and stations. I bought the Earl sandwich and was so underwhelmed. I could make this at home easily. The bread tasted like any other wheat bread from a grocery store and it just wasn't worth $7 for a sandwich. Jason's Deli charges only $8 for salmon on delicious ciabatta and serves it with a side. The portion size is ridiculous for what you pay. The service was good and there are plenty of tables to pick from, but I can't get past the ridiculously huge plate for one mediocre sandwich. read more

This is one of my go to lunch spots in College Station! The food is amazing and made to order. The pizza is among the best in town. It is a true thin crust, oven fired pizza. The hot sandwiches are cooked in the same oven. The Turchino and the Roasted Veggie are my favs. All of their cold sandwiches are made on order. I love the Powder Blue and Tejas Blue. All of their salads are delicious. The entree size is very generous. Soups are delicious as well. Don't even get me started on the baked goods. The cookies are to die for. I get one every time I go (oatmeal raisin is my fav). Breakfast is a win too. The croissant breakfast sandwiches are huge. A great start to any day. Before leaving College Station and heading back to Houston, my boss stopped in here so that we could get lunch. I ordered the Baby Brutus Salad (Spinach tossed with balsamic glaze dressing and your choice of walnuts, raisins, goat cheese and black pepper) and the Tejas Blue (Turkey, guacamole and hot sauce with lettuce, tomatoes and red onions on sourdough bread). They were both good and just fine. I had no complaints on either. The boss thought that it was really good, but to me it was just good, i.e. O.K. Wasn't going to write a review but I just couldn't believe that BB only has 3 stars!! I ate here at least once a week with my friends in college. The pizzas are amazing - fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked. The sandwiches are great too - lots of choices to suit whatever sandwich craving you have. The cookies are soft and yummy. Lots of drink choices and the crushed ice is just an added bonus! I've also had some of the breads from the bakery section and they were wonderful. The pumpkin and zucchini breads are particularly delicious. You can sit for hours in one of the booths by the windows and study, read a book or work on your laptop with no interruption. I'll be honest, I'm a sucker for local businesses. I go in totally biased. I'm rooting for you. I want you to succeed. I even look over things that might otherwise dissuade me. And guess what? Blue Bake does not disappoint! Even dropping the bias, I like this place on its own merits. The service is always friendly, accomodating and helpful. The food is good. Now, in the interest of being fair/honest, the prices can be high, but no more so than at Panerr Dread (see my review of them in CS to understand my nickname). I used to always get the pizzas here, but recently I discovered the roasted veggie sandwich and I've got to admit... I'm in love! A super tasty sandwich (meat-eaters feel free to add chicken)! I also like to come here to study/read/work on my computer as it's a chill environment, with a fair amount of outlets and usually reliable wifi. (Psp, don't say anything but I'm actually writing this review right now from BB on their free wifi!) Again, the service here is very friendly and they are always accommodating. Blue baker is a good restaurant when you want a light meal. I ordered a build your own on sourdough bread with turkey, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The food is good but they are very stingy with their meat! The prices are pretty steep considering that you don't get a lot for your money. On the plus side, this location has more seating than the Dominik location, but I don't like the fact that the students use the restaurant as a study hall! read more

The bagels have just the right amount of stretch and the distinctive shiny crust to bring them almost up to par with the bagels from the Brooklyn, NY, delis of my youth. Progressing to breakfast sandwiches, the components of the spinach, egg, and feta cheese bagel sandwich meld into just the soul-satisfying breakfast this NY native longs for. Messy, but so worth it. The coffees from the local What's The Buzz purveyor are the bomb. Always strong enough, complex, flavorful, robust. The coffee D\definitely holds its own. Go on Saturday to pick up a loaf or two of kalamata olive and rosemary bread. Well worth the carbs. In fact, pick up three loaves, as two probably won't get you through the week. In the evenings, it's the tomato basil bisque in the sourdough bowl for cold and evenings or the crisp and fresh Greek salad in summer. As for service, the counter workers always seem hip, engaging, and helpful. I once approached the order counter with what might be described as a chip on my shoulder. The sweet gal behind the counter dissipated my bad mood with one sentence. She seemed so genuine, and she single-handedly salvaged my evening. Blue Baker obviously values people with good interpersonal skills. I like the stained concrete floor the industrial-chic look of the interior. In nice weather, the outside patio adjacent to the fountain is lovely. Another note that speaks to customer service: My knitting group meets weekly at this location. The manager noticed that I was knitting, and brought over a small bag of knitting accoutrements from the restaurant's lost-and-found collection that he assumed one of our group had left behind on a previous visit. read more
