The coffees from the local What's The Buzz purveyor are the bomb. Always strong enough, complex, flavorful, robust. The coffee D\definitely holds its own. Go on Saturday to pick up a loaf or two of kalamata olive and rosemary bread. Well worth the carbs. In fact, pick up three loaves, as two probably won't get you through the week. In the evenings, it's the tomato basil bisque in the sourdough bowl for cold and evenings or the crisp and fresh Greek salad in summer. As for service, the counter workers always seem hip, engaging, and helpful. I once approached the order counter with what might be described as a chip on my shoulder. The sweet gal behind the counter dissipated my bad mood with one sentence. She seemed so genuine, and she single-handedly salvaged my evening. Blue Baker obviously values people with good interpersonal skills. I like the stained concrete floor the industrial-chic look of the interior. My boyfriend and I came here after church when panera was so crowded there wasn't even parking. It was pleasant enough even though very busy, the inside felt very casual, everything was blue. We waited in a fairly short line, paid and didn't wait long for our food. Because it was so nice outside and there's a pretty pond with a fountain we sat outside. We had to take a chair from inside though because everyone had the same idea and was sitting outside. I ordered a cup of tomato bisque and a side Greek salad, and my boyfriend got a sandwich. The soup was good, average. But my Greek salad disappointing, it had untraditional ingredients and the dressing tasted off. Blue Baker is one of those places that tries to be a jack of all trades. Though they are the masters of none outside the baked breads. Nothing is bad, just ho hum. There is a large spread out dinning area, and a paint it blue theme everywhere (as you would expect). Anyway, service is bare bones. Order at the counter, the food then comes out. Pretty simple. The menu is all over the place. Breakfast, pastries, desserts, and fresh baked bread. Sandwiches, pizzas, soups, on and on I can go. The sandwiches and pizzas are really nothing special. I always enjoy coming to Blue Baker; I really like the Powder Blue sandwich as well as their pizzas for dinner (a perfect thin crust). Everything is very fresh, and the fact that they make their own bread just elevates all sandwiches to a different level. They have several "set" sandwiches (which you can always modify) as well as the option to build your own from scratch. I also admit to loving their Cappuccino Chip bread (which is only baked on Mondays) . It's also a good place to work with a small group (when you get the chance to get out of the office), as they have lots of booths and free wireless. Blue Baker is awesome for it's food but also for students who need spaces to study with comfy booths and outlets. It gets busy around lunch time but even then I've always been able to find spaces. The pizza and soups are the bomb.com, and I'm pretty sure the bakers and cashiers know my order by heart by now (Neapolitan pizza with olives, and extra basil lol). Plus they have delivery in some locations and curb-side pick up. I also recently asked Blue Baker to help me out with a social event on Super Bowl Sunday -- Matthew was a HUGE help in helping me coordinate about 40 guests; he set aside the chairs and tables and made sure everything went smoothly. I am a neighbor and am glad to have a close bakery as good as Blue Baker is. I like the verity of loafs of breads available but the best part is that the Bakery puts out one day old bread so they do not waist and also make it easier to try to different bread they offer. Let's separate this into two categories: Food & Service Service & Price Food & Service: The food is good; it's fast, fresh, and hot. The pizza is delicious, the sandwiches are stacked, and the soup is hot and tasty. This is not the problem. Service & Price: When I went into the location the computer was down. Okay, surely the staff member can handle a simple order, right? Apparently not. Ordered 1 Pizza, $8.00, 2 Combos (asked for + Dessert, Sans Drink, which he said was perfectly okay) $8.00 x 2 = $19.00. All plus tax. When we got to the front he charged me $35 dollars. Apparently he can't modify combos without a computer, so I was charged additionally for the desserts. $1.50 for a cookie, $2.00 for a brownie. Let's math again, 8 + 19 + 2 + 1.50 = 30.50 before tax. Texas tax = 8.25%. 30.50 * 8.25% = 2.51. WHERE DID THE MAGIC TWO DOLLARS COME FROM? I know I'm bitching about two dollars, BUT SERIOUSLY. WITHOUT A REGISTER YOU CAN'T DO BASIC MATH? really? okay. My salad has a werid fishy taste to it. I didn't think that was ever possible and I'm not quite sure how to describe it besides that. I took a bite of lettuce itself and it had a fishy aftertaste. The Club Blue sandwich is very good! It always smells nice and fresh when I walk in the place. The staff is always very nice and cordial. The only thing I didn't quite like was the pizza, I like thin crusts but when I had it at a catered event I could barely see any sauce on it and it was a bit... chewy/dry. It wasn't bad, and I could even see myself ordering it again one day if i was in the mood, but it didn't "wow" me. I know I will be back countless times for the Club Blue sandwich while I'm here for college though. It's very tasty and I can tell myself it's healthier than 90% of other things I eat lol. I am commenting on one experience only. It was the first and only time I have used this place; so, to be fair, I will give them another chance with something other than pizza. My wife and I were hungry but didn't want to leave the house so we ordered pizza. One Pepperoni and one bell pepper and hamburger. They don't serve beef nor did the have bell pepper. So we ended up going with sausage and roasted red pepper. Thin crust on both. When it arrived the delivery guy was well organized and professional. We paid him and the we opened the boxes to grab a slice. I noticed right off that they were rather reserved with their toppings. I can live with that but the crust was very doughy and under cooked. I didn't think it was very flavorful at all. I would like to see them offer beef and certainly bell peppers but more importantly take the time to make sure it's properly prepared. I love the pastries and breads at Blue Baker. I think their croissants are the absolute best in town. Very authentic, buttery french croissants. We drive across Austin for the baked goods, but rarely order food. I only have 2 complaints. The chocolate/almond croissants need more filling, and.... the last time we went, we drove in traffic for 40 minutes to find the store closed at 3:00pm. The sign said 3:00 was the new closing hour. I probably won't have their delicious croissants for a while because we normally visit before going to our favorite movie theater which is after 3:00. Always Satisfied!!!! I've been a loyal customer for several years, thanks to my children introducing me to their whole array of sandwiches, served on many various artisan breads. Their "Abyss" (tuna sandwich), "Powder Blue" (turkey/cheese), "Club Bleu" (Ham on croissant) are to name a few. They also have great salads, too!!!! Pizza is made in a brick oven (well worth the wait), which is reminiscent of the pizza I had when in New York,....and that's a fact!!! But I should clarify that it all depends on what you're looking for. Mr G's has greasy pizza with almost too much fresh mozzarella with a good crust that would make most New Yorkers proud, while Blue baker's pizza is light, crisp, gourmet pizza with toppings that run the full range from the ordinary to grilled chicken to goats cheese, pesto and anchovies. Something's happened to Blue Baker. What used to be a fun tasty stop is no more. At least for my breakfast. Unless of course you like bland watery eggs, chilled bacon and surely help. I can get that at home. Haha Seriously the help was about as opposite as what you find at a, say Chipotle, and did about the minimum. I think it started out poorly when after standing for a couple minutes waiting to order breakfast I had to interrupt employees chatting over the prep area. I think they were irritated with me because my wife had ordered the same breakfast plate and I got less eggs and three bacon strips when my wife got four. They got me! My daughter had a bagel sandwich and it looked good. No thanks, bye-bye, you're welcome, etc. from our servers. When we drove away I noticed the windows had been painted "Breakfast" in big bold blue letters. I'm assuming they are trying to grow their breakfast business. Such a good place to get lunch with a group or just a friend, and also a good place to study. I liked the fact that the booths were tall enough so we could have some privacy, and I liked the whole blue theme all around. The food was pretty good, although it was a bit greasy. I tried a hot sandwich and even though it looked small it surely did fill me up! And my brother got the 4 meat pizza, which he said he enjoyed except for the fact that it was so greasy.
