If you love almonds, snacks and gifts, Blue Diamond Almond Nut & Gift Shop is the place to visit. Small store that has a variety of local items: :: Lavender sachets and bouquets from: Robert's Ferry Lavender Farm - Modesto :: Spice mixes - Lads Home Ranch - Linden :: Bam Treats - English Toffee - Lodi :: Local Honey from Turlock and Sac :: Goat milk lotion - Modesto ....and of course plenty of salty, sweet, spicy varieties of almonds and treats including almond milk. They also have a clearance shelf with seasonal and specialty items like Stonewall Kitchen and jams up to 50% off. Staff friendly and helpful and will answer any questions you have. If you're driving along Highway 99, make a stop and visit Blue Diamond Almond store and support the (surrounding) local farm stands for produce, snacks, milk. You'll definitely find something for yourself or a gift. NOTE: National Farmers Day is observed annually on October 12th to honor and pay tribute to farmers, who have dedicated their lives to feed our nation. You guys!!! I thought this gift shop was purely just nuts but I was wrong! They have everything else from Blue Diamond like almond milk and their almond crackers. And at a reasonable price! We were intrigued with the blueberry almonds so we had to bring home a small bag to try. Go and try it for yourself and thank me later. You're welcome!

    Healthy road trip treats.

I love almonds, and Blue Diamond is one of the best brands around. There's a factory right next door to this gift shop, and it's worth a stop if you love nuts (or need to stretch your legs while driving through California). I was disappointed that this shop is not an outlet store. Usually shops right next to a factory are outlets, or have discounted merchandise. Not here. This place has full retail prices. Don't step inside expecting bargains or "seconds." Other than the retail pricing, this place is great! They carry every flavor of Blue Diamond almonds, including hard-to-find spicy pickle, two different super hot pepper flavors (get the spicy ghost pepper), and salt and vinegar. There's a very small candy section with chocolate covered -- you guessed it! -- ALMONDS, including sugar free items. From raw almonds to elaborate Blue Diamond gift sets, this is THE place for all of your nutty gift needs. To round out the offerings, the gift shop sells tons of made in California items like olive oils, spices, local honey, and kitchen decor, with an emphasis on bath products, lotions, and other various goods. I couldn't resist a large jar of almond sugar scrub. I bought a sack full of snacks and other junk for my road trip, and felt slightly better about noshing on healthier treats instead of fast food or a bag of chips. If it's almonds you're seeking, this is a must-stop.

    Xtremes!

We saw a sign on the 99 and decided to look this place up for a pit stop. So glad we did! Restrooms were clean and employees were friendly. They have a bunch of gift options and a ton of flavors and almond related paraphernalia. I forgot that they made so many flavors! We ended up buying a bunch of gifts for neighbors and friends since almonds are awesome gifts! They had some pretty good deals on wasabi almonds and almond milk so we stocked up on those as well. Overall, this was one of our more productive and fun pit stops on our 99 journey. We did ask if they offered any sort of tours or 'educational' fun facts about their factory and nope... at least not at this location. I think something like that would have been fun for the kids to learn about. Even if its just a wall taking you through their process would have been nice to see. Maybe something they can add later. At least the gifts were great. Didn't know they made super spicy almonds called XTREMES made with ghost peppers, carolina reaper and cayenne. I had to get some. They're tasty! Great stop!

Pretty cool gift shop with speciality and seasonal almond packages you can only get in the store. We enjoyed it. Had a sample and bought some nice items. Friendly helpful staff. They were also pretty busy taking phone orders.

You're gonna love their nuts! Once you've popped their delicious nuts in your mouth you won't be disappointed. Seriously! The selection of nuts and variety of nutty flavors is exceptional. Nuts coated in lemon cream, mint chocolate, chocolate toffee, and more! Also, so many savory coatings as well. So if like your nuts sweet, salty, or both, they have the nuts for you! They have prepackaged gift baskets full of nuts or you can make your own nut basket. They also have other items from other vendors. If you don't stop in, your mistake! If you don't like nuts, you deff know someone who does. Get them a scrumptious bag-o-nuts!

This is the best way to buy meat because most of the time butchers at the store have it presliced and prepackaged and the juices (blood) drains if the meat and it no longer tastes fresh. I threw it on the grill and seasoned it and it was the best carne asada I've ever tasted. So I highly recommend you buy your meat here. If you don't see what you want in the cold case, don't be discouraged and tell him what you want and more than likely they will have it. I'm talking about steaks that you want to grill for carne asada. Enjoy!

What makes it special; is the new & improved meat counter & produce area. Fabulous!! They take special orders for the meats & fish that they carry. Love that! Their meat and fish dept is on par, price-wise, with major supermarkets, most of the time. I might pay $.40 a pound, more for catfish in season, but the price doesn't change out of season. Year-round, it's the same. (I'd buy fish here before I would at Save-Mart or O'Briens!!) I also don't have to drive 7 miles down the road for the $.40 cheaper per pound, price, for frozen stuff. Gas costs! I definitely don't have to put up with fish that doesn't look or taste as well as what I buy locally. I can examine each and every piece of meat or fish that I buy there. No packages hiding huge pieces of fat underneath or smelly fish. If anyone has a problem with the butcher part of the store, no worries. They take great pride in the meats & fish that are carried now. I have actually been told, once, that I could not buy the poultry that I wanted, as it wasn't fresh enough. I bypass supermarket fish, catfish & produce to purchase from here. You can not beat it for taste and price. Owners are very friendly and very helpful. Staff speaks fluent English as well.

Throughout my life I've had lots of fresh apricots, and depending on the source these have ranged from bland to tart to sweet, but to make the claim that theirs was the sweetest on earth ... I knew I had to try these to believe it! Thanks to CUESA, the educational organization that runs the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, a group of us got to visit with farmer John Driver on his 10 acre apricot orchard recently. The farm doesn't offer public tours and these CandyCots are fairly exclusive so this might have been an opportunity of a lifetime to actually visit the farm. CandyCot apricots are bred varieties, grown under the hot Central Valley heat. The fruits which are smaller in size than the standard supermarket apricot are known for their pronounced flavor described by some as "spicy" and their high sugar content. Using a Brix rating system which measures dissolved sugars CandyCot ratings measure in the 20's and 30's while standard apricots are usually in the teens. Because it was a scorching 97 degrees outside John picked out a nice covered area to do a presentation for our group (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#RvTqNPe7kmfcGbhoA5vzqA) and give us the lowdown on his CandyCot fruits. John has traveled the world in search of truly sweet and flavorful apricots and in his introduction he brought up places like Kazahstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Central Asia. He gathers seeds, grows plant samples and grafts them together (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#Gm-KBNQISJJG_m8m9NN-0Q) in an attempt to recreate some of earth's sweetest fruit. These plants take many years of love and nurturing in order to bear fruit and John's patience and dedication to his craft has resulted in the sweetest apricots almost every member of our group would later agree that they had ever sampled. To prove this point John also has non-grafted California Blenheim apricots (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#zknyp7DAo6EMihCLeZHZLQ) on his orchard for skeptics like myself to sample and compare. Blenheims are the standard California apricots found in most supermarket produce sections. After a short talk and Q&A on soil conditioning, pruning and pest management John took us out onto the orchard and allowed our group to pick and sample fruit directly from the trees (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#3ZeeqGX8i2WPQ9JSCuHtZQ). For the record John prunes his trees using the letter V shape (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#4tm2_oBedWSHZwRi9G3OyQ) because it creates better airflow for his trees and the fruits seem to grow best this way. These were the Anya variety and we were instructed to pick anything that didn't have green spots. Many of the fruit had brown spots not caused by bruising as John explained but are actually natural indicators of the fruit's sugar content. The more browning on the fruit the sweeter the fruit. I picked one of those and bit into it without a second thought. The juice actually popped from the fruit and ran down my chin and all over my hands. Apricot heaven is what immediately came to mind. These apricots were beyond sweet and amazingly enough one could truly differentiate between the apricot flavor and the sugar content. As unbearable as the outside heat was I didn't want to leave that orchard. Thankfully, John allowed us to pick extras so I had fruit to take home to enjoy (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#9GydI61pdwGNnvQ6-1kIOg). CandyCots are currently sold either at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (only through July 7, 2012), select markets such as Save Mart and Whole Foods or through mail order. Check out their website for more details. Because of the high sugar content the fruits don't spoil as quickly and keep very well in the refrigerator.
