We have been shopping for our fruit and produce. We make it quick due to the extreme hot temperatures inside. Can't imagine how the girls make it 8 to 10 hours a day in that heat one would think they would at least wear shorts to stay cooler. We have been to other fruit stands in hotter areas that use a misting system to keep the interior at least 10 to 20° cooler without any moisture or water on the floor. Speaking for ourselves, we would spend more time shopping if the temperatures were more pleasant don't need AC, but just something to kind of break the temperature a bit. A high pressure misting system would keep the employees more comfortable and the shoppers and results. They'd probably spend more money. Next time we go, we're gonna buy the girls shorts so I can keep cool. read more

This is the best local fruit stand around the Modesto area! From fresh and local/organic meat, to fresh and locally grown and harvests fruits and veggies! Even local small business shops advertise thier products like jams, jelly, dressings, seasonings and even fresh baked bread. My two young boys and I head over here about 1-2x a week to shop. The staff is always so kind, super sweet and helpful. I've had so many good conversations! I do a lot of canning and I make a lot of pepper jelly and fruit jam, WITH the produce J&J Ramos farms harvest. It's always the best experience when we come out here. read more

I bought a nice looking dish of 8 nectarines. Although they looked good and felt ripe, I did not smell them, they proved to be unappetizing. Three were ground drops that had greyish inclusions in the flesh, yuck and three were half green the other two were hard on one side and went straight to compost. Eight nectarines, one good bite. Best fruit stand! I'm lost when they're closed for a few months during the winter. I can do my gift shopping there for large baskets and small baskets and gift packs. They offer fresh fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, jams and jellies, nuts, candies, sauces, honey. There's a cold case with Nutcher milks, meats, and other refrigerated items. Seems like all are locally grown/made. They have an amazing bakery with fresh daily pies, cookies, scones, etc. So so much more than I'm listing. This Family Farm business is your basic roadside fruit stand, but on steroids! Nothing basic here. We found peach cobbler (peach pie with crumble topping) warm from the oven and blackberry scones; peaches, strawberries and nectarines; gorgeous multi-hued summer squash; an heirloom tomato that, once chosen, I buried my nose in and had to engage every bit of willpower not to devour at the table; Brussels Sprouts; farm-fresh whole milk in glass bottle (just like Papa used to bring home from the dairy) which I can attest to being some of *the*best* milk I've enjoyed; triple-stuffed green olives; bell peppers, shallots, and two large, gorgeous avocados. Oh, and what I think of as a Mexican popsicle -- coconut crème, of course! I'm sure I've forgotten several somethings, but can be forgiven considering the quality of our haul and the absence of sticker shock. Like going to the farmers market, minus the hefty prices (which I always consider you get what you pay for!). I only forgot corn on the cob, but figure we can always make a mid-week trip. Just had to stop for melons today but as always had to look at everything else too. Was surprised to see Genova Deli products in the refrigerator and just had to purchase ravioli. Let me tell you how hard it was to not buy so much more than I did! Everything was so well stocked and clean, the staff is all smiles and so helpful, always! Also, the pies and pastries case was full and although I didn't buy any today I can tell you in the past I have and it was delicious. The flakiest pastries ever, all inside my car! They have a stand at the Crocker Galleria Farmers' Market. I didn't buy fruit but I noticed all these flavors of roasted almonds. 2 bags for $11 or $6 for a single bag. I got the butter toffee and honey almonds. Very good and fresh. Beats the canned items at Walgreen's. I don't think I saw any baked items but the almonds are good. Yesterday I went to the El Cerrito Farmers Market for the first time in a year or two. Before I had my hip replaced last year I wasn't as mobile as I am now. I've been buying produce at Berkeley Bowl West or Monterey Market and Alan has been going to the Kensington Farmers Market on Sundays. The nectarines I'd bought most recently at Monterey Market hadn't been that impressive and I realized how much I'd missed Rocky Palomino's stone fruit, so I put my "little old lady shopping cart" in the trunk of my car and headed over to the Plaza. Once at the market I unloaded my cart, grabbed bags and headed over to Rocky's usual spot, passing by other stands. It wasn't there so I went over to J&J Ramos, which had a large, well laid out stand full of a variety of stone fruit. They were offering samples but I'd just eaten and wasn't hungry, so I just picked out an assortment of white and yellow nectarines. Unlike Rocky, they didn't have them labeled by variety and they seem to have had a couple of types of each, so I got both. When I was checking out I asked the women behind the counter about Rocky and the younger one indicated he was no longer coming to the market. I later learned from a friend that he had retired. I ate one of the yellow nectarines yesterday afternoon and it was heavenly, bright w/ flavor and w/ excellent texture. I was very pleased and will make J&J Ramos a regular stop when I go to the market on Saturdays. I'm not sure whether they're at the market on Tuesdays, but I rarely go to that one because of my exercise class. They also have pluots, plums and other stone fruit and I gather from other reviews that they have wonderful oranges when in season. I didn't see any baked goods as mentioned in past reviews. Maybe they only sell their baked goods at their home fruit stand or at other farmers markets. While I will miss Rocky, whose stone fruit and honey were so good, I think I will be happy w/ J&J Ramos. read more
