For the last three years we have celebrated Thanksgiving Eve with Family and Friends. One year there were 33 of us, this year 19 due to the weather. The food was delicious, the service superb, and we always use the private room. When I arrived to setup, the room was already ready. We went there this weekend for dinner. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The place was absolutely dead on a Saturday night, which is always concerning. My wife's lemon chicken rice soup was the consistency of porridge, as though it had been left on a burner for way too long. My lamb was overcooked, and the sides tasted like boxed Mexican rice and overcooked canned green beans. Our waitress was barely able to walk up the three steps to our seating area, and when we asked for more water, she disappeared. Finally, I had to get up and ask the host to get our bill, and we saw him and the other server searching all over the bar and kitchen area. They eventually gave up, and had to come out and write up a new bill for us because they could not find her anywhere. I don't love writing bad reviews, but this meal was bad enough that frankly, the host should have offered to comp us. I normally love dives like this, and I love Greek food, but it's safe to say we will not be back. read more

The more we go to the Blue Dolphin, the more I understand that this restaurant is just the most recent incarnation of a classic Greek diner in Kalamazoo. Before Blue Dolphin was Rex Cafe and the Main Street Cafe (now a Benny DiCarta's). Blue Dolphin is a perfectly fine place for basic types of breakfasts. My girl and I generally get the Farmer's Skillet: sausage, potatoes, green peppers, and onions. Have we tried other things on the menu with varying degrees of success? Sure, and we learned diners like these don't make complicated or sophisticated dishes very well. For example, I have never had a Monto Cristo that was such a flaming dumpster fire as the one Blue Dolphin served. Okay, live and learn. Stick with what we know and can trust. Farmer's Skillet, eggs over easy, cinnamon raisin toast, & coffee. The restaurant had a clean up party some time ago and replaced the ceiling tiles with clean ones and got rid of the sad carpet for an easy to clean surface. It helps. The staff have been there for years, and the photos on the walls are, for people as aged as me, a reminder of things past and now long gone. read more

Hear me out...husband was craving a quick, satisfying breakfast for a good price. I personally haven't been to The Blue Dolphin in years so I didn't have an opinion for him. Today he ordered their corned beef and eggs breakfast to go, and was really impressed! He likes everything "well done" thus the extra char on the corned beef. He was happy! I love Greek food, and this is one of my local standby for Greek food. It is not the cleanest not has the best service but the Greek food is right on and like mama makes. This time I had the Athenian chicken and almost could not finish it. to be truthful I did not clean my plate was too full. It was delish and the chicken cook to perfection! Had the AVGOLEMONO nice lemon soup, they offer some nice more American and European food but I come here for the Greek! The people around me at lunch seemed to be eating with gusto so I am assuming it is well executed as well. read more

Sadly, disappointing meal. We had a friendly efficient service that needs to be recognised. I don't think this restaurant really knows it's own identity. If you want to be Greek...BE Greek. We started off with orders of saginaki. The cheese was barely cooked, not at all warm and stringy. The server didn't ignite it well, saying she used too much rum. (rum? no - brandy or cognac?) The roasted lamb meal was tasty and came with rice and Greek style green beans. The pastitsio was more Italian than Greek. Nice presentation but it was made with beef not lamb and lacked the spice profile (no cinnamon or richness of wine) and was topped with spaghetti sauce. The calamari from the sampler plate was overcooked and rubbery. We visited on a Friday evening during the December holiday season. The restaurant was quiet without any Greek or holiday music. A couple guys with guitars did come and set up on the small stage. They were ok older musicians but the Greek identity or even holiday identity was lost in their sorta country style music. read more

This was my first time eating at Blue Dolphin. I have been there a couple of times but not for food but for events they had or work meetings. I went and I ordered the Potato Casserole which comes with Potatoes, Green pepper, onions, Ham, Bacon, Cheddar, topped with Sausage Gravy. I didn't go during dinner but I am hoping that they are an amazing seafood place because of the name but I am not sure. The location is random and honestly probably not the best. They are located downtown but they are past the main part of the Kalamazoo Mall. The inside is poorly decorated and the floor plan is confusing and honestly not set up the best for a restaurant or a club (on the weekends they rent the space out for a club). I am glad I ordered the gravy on the side because it would have been covered in it with the amount they gave me on the side, however, overall the food was seasoned properly and was good. I liked it and would get it again. I am not sure if I would go back for food but if I do, I want to try their dinner options to really get a feel for the place and what they have to offer. I will not rule them out. Overall: I give this place 3 stars. Will I try it again to update this review in the future? Probably. I like to try places at least twice. read more

The blue awning let's you know that this is a traditional family owned Greek restaurant. Very relaxed atmosphere, no pressure to do anything. Service was quick and efficient. Krista, our waitress, was wonderful and made us feel like we were part of the family (it is a family restaurant). We shared a gyro sandwich, Greek salad, and onion rings and they were all DELICIOUS. I've been going to Blue Dolphin since I was in my single digits; it was a Sunday tradition with my family and my grandparents loved it. I did too. But as an adult, over the last three years, I've never been to a restaurant and that treats people so poorly. The owners are rude, condescending, and unprofessional. They talk down to customers and treat them with no respect. It's sad to watch, because it's obvious they often could use the business. But instead of being welcoming to customers, they almost treat them like a burden. read more

I order for multiple people in our office so I see the food and hear the people talking about it...it is good. Wow, please look at the pics. They speak for themselves. It looks like this chicken was ran over with a car twice and, for a "half chicken" it is the smallest one I've ever seen. The gyro was ordered with meat and feta only. As you can see, it has all the veggies and absolutely no feta, which this place charged me extra for. Obviously the fries are inedible. Look at the grease and fries are supposed to be crispy. Not limp little mounds of nasty fat. This was the worst take out experience I have ever had and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Ever. Under any circumstances. I want my money back and door dash to remove this place from its options. It will only cost them money in having to refund customers. read more
