Today I decided to visit the branch to obtain a copy of my 2024 1099-INT form to provide to my tax preparer. As soon as I walked in the door I was warmly greeted by a friendly teller, who was happy to see me because she was the person who opened my account years ago and had returned back to this branch. This relationship banking is something that I value the most about my membership here. I am treated and valued as a person instead of just a number. It doesn't matter if you open an account with just $5. This deposit gives you a share of ownership in the credit union. This particular branch is very special to me for its interior design. Framed old black and white photographs of the City of Roanoke compliment its rustic architectural design, pointing to the historical significance of the Star City of the South. And it also highlights this credit union's mission. Freedom First Credit Union's mission is to help people prosper and communities thrive. To them, "Where People Bank for Good," is not just a neat slogan, it means that they utilize their members collective resources, resulting from their shared success, to be an economic catalyst in our community and improve the quality of life for everyone. One of the service they provide through the Roanoke Financial Empowerment Center is an opportunity to meet with a financial counselor and receive financial education and advice. Another is meeting with a credit union representative to review your current services and if you would benefit from switching some or adding additional ones. And yet another is meeting with a financial planner to talking about savings and investments and the power of compounding interest. Even though I still have an account with a large bank as well, Bank of America, which I've had since I started attending the University. That at that time was known as Bank of Boston, I have great pride of being a banking customer of Freedom First Credit Union and would highly recommend it to all those considering opening an account for the first time or those considering switching financial institutions because they are not happy with the service or personal attention they are receiving elsewhere.

When you go to pull in, don't drive under the covered area as I initially did...it's on the outside of it. Not too great if the weather's bad. From my sedan, I can't reach the ATM. It's too high, so I have to park and hang out the window. The screen is always dirty and the contrast is so bad, you can hardly read the information unless you provide shade with your hand and get right up to it. Not a one-time experience, but every time I use it. The only reason I continue to go back is because I haven't found another drive-thru ATM in downtown Blacksburg. Once I do, I'll be going there instead.

I also really appreciate the assistance I received recently with another account issue. Someone was able to escalate my concern and ultimately help me reach a resolution that I was very happy with. The representative who helped me over the phone was Tashiana (I apologize if I have the spelling wrong), and she was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the process. I really appreciated how I was treated. The main reason I am writing this review is because I am hoping someone from the appropriate lending department might be willing to reach out to me regarding a personal line of credit. I have submitted an application online, but I have received some confusing and conflicting statuses. On one application, it initially said it would be manually reviewed and then changed to declined within minutes, even though it was after normal business hours. Another application initially appeared to be automatically declined, then changed to indicate that it was under human review, and ultimately showed declined again. I completely understand and respect it if the applications were reviewed and the lending decision is a decline. I am not upset about that. I just wanted to mention the changing statuses in case there is an issue with the online application system that VACU may want to look into. If the applications are in fact being declined, I would very respectfully ask whether someone might be willing to take another look at my situation and see if there is an option that could work for both VACU and me. I have been a lifelong Member One/VACU member, and that relationship means a great deal to me. I did experience a period of financial hardship that resulted in some difficulties with my account, and I fully acknowledge my responsibility for that. Thankfully, that hardship has now passed, and I am hoping to rebuild and continue strengthening my relationship with VACU. I also hope my overall history can be taken into consideration. I previously had an auto loan through Member One/VACU with a perfect payment history, and I have not had issues making the payments on my VACU credit card. I am particularly interested in a personal line of credit because VACU is one of the very few financial institutions in the Roanoke area that I have found offering them. The online application appears to require a minimum request of $2,001, but I would absolutely be willing to accept a smaller amount if that would make an approval possible. I remember Member One offering smaller or starter-type lines of credit in the past, so I would be very interested in something along those lines if VACU has any similar option available today. I am not asking VACU to disregard its lending standards, and I completely understand that there are no guarantees. I am simply hoping someone might be willing to review my overall relationship and see whether a smaller or starter line of credit, or another arrangement, could be offered. My preference is genuinely to continue building my relationship with Virginia Credit Union rather than looking elsewhere. I have been part of Member One/VACU for such a long time that I would much rather find something that works here. I am more than happy to be flexible on the amount and work with VACU toward something that makes sense for both of us. Unfortunately, my work schedule makes it very difficult for me to visit a branch during the week, which is why I am reaching out this way. If someone from the appropriate department could contact me to discuss whether there are any options available or whether my application could be reconsidered, I would sincerely appreciate it.
