This is an honest review of Blue Eagle as a whole, not just this particular location…read more What I really like is the friendly, kind and polite staff. The staff really are amazing. I've personally worked with Mary, Becky and Kari, and I appreciate all of them and their kindness. Sam is also great and answered my email very quickly. I've never had any complaints about the staff. Here's what I don't like about Blue Eagle. First, they seem very strict and picky about who they will help with lending products. I applied for a credit card and a loan and was denied for both without a cosigner because of my credit utilization. I can respect that, and I was still a pretty new member at the time, having only joined in May. I had originally applied at the recommendation of another Blue Eagle member I know. After that, I joined a local bank called RidgeView Bank in Roanoke. They asked me what services they could help me with, so I applied for a credit card and was approved almost instantly. They told me they don't necessarily see high utilization as a reason for denial, which I actually didn't mention to them until after they approved me. Since my original application with Blue Eagle, my utilization has also decreased significantly -- by more than half. So after RidgeView approved me, I came back to Blue Eagle and basically said, "Hey, another local bank has given me an offer. Is there any way we can work something out on the credit card?" I would much rather continue building my relationship with Blue Eagle than have to start over with another local institution. I'm even willing to accept a lower amount or whatever reasonable terms Blue Eagle could work out for me. Sam answered my email and forwarded it to Kari, who assisted me. I usually work with Mary, but Kari was great as well, and Sam was too. Five stars for both of them. Unfortunately, the underwriters still will not approve me. My original denial was due to my credit utilization, while this time I was told the issue was that I had opened more than a few accounts within the past 24 months. I understand that Blue Eagle has its own underwriting standards, and I'm not mad about the decision, but I had hoped there might be more flexibility to figure out an option that could work for both of us, especially considering my utilization has decreased significantly and I'm willing to accept a lower credit limit or other reasonable terms. I haven't made any final decisions yet, but RidgeView is also wanting to look at refinancing my car. I would really prefer to keep my relationship with Blue Eagle and keep my car there. Before I make a final decision about that, I'd like to give Blue Eagle the opportunity to see if there is anything they can work out with me. Unfortunately, based on my lending experience so far, I would not currently recommend Blue Eagle to family or friends for lending products. That's disappointing for me to say because I genuinely like the employees I've worked with and would prefer to continue doing business here. I hope my experience changes in the future because I would be happy to reconsider that opinion. So, bottom line: I would recommend Blue Eagle if you are looking for general banking such as checking and savings because the employees have been wonderful. When it comes to lending, however, my experience has been that their standards are considerably stricter than I expected from a credit union. I'm still willing to work with Blue Eagle and would genuinely like to find a solution that works for both of us. If someone from Blue Eagle would like to reach out to me to discuss whether there are any other options available, I would be more than happy to speak with them. If they are unable to meet my needs, though, I will have to consider moving more of my business to an institution that can.

A few days later, my AC does not work. I take it to another shop and they tell me carrier bearing housing is missing. Likely from when they replaced the transmission, they didn't put this back on. The employees are all intelligent, professional and well trained. I have taken several vehicles to them for oil changes and for VA state inspections. I completely trust them with my 2004 BMW M3 and my wife's 2005 BMW 530i and our FJ Cruiser. I also take my motorcycles there for inspections. They are always very careful and thoughtful about the work they perform. Their prices are fair and reasonable and they work quickly. They do not use high pressure sales tactics (like other Salem oil change places) to sell new wipers, air filters, etc. I really like this shop and the friendly, honest people that work there. Featuring Pennzoil products, I use full synthetic in my cars. Highly recommended!

The guys at our DT make it seem much less difficult and do not pressure you. They gladly helped me this time with a warranty replacement on my stock tires which required them calling the manufacturer. They did this without complaining and advocated for me. Their prices are very competitive compared to other online stores. I would suggest making an appointment online and this will make your time spent most efficient. You can even purchase your tires online and schedule at time for them to be installed if you know what tire you want for your vehicle. I will add that while out of town recently, we had a tire pressure warning light come on and we stopped in a DT in Myrtle Beach area. This location was equally helpful and kind. Discount Tire knows how to find the right employees and train them well both in product knowledge and customer service! I call them the Chick-Fil-A of the tire world!

I got their credit card which says deferred interest for 9 months on balances of $1000-$1500. I…read morebought 4 tires on 6/25/2026 totaling $1200. I paid the entire balance off on 7/24/2026. I got a statement on 7/27/2026 stating I had a $30 balance on the account because of interest charged. When I inquired with the credit card company, I was told it was on "promotional balances" and that the tires I bought must not be considered a promotional balance. What a scam! I paid the $30 and closed my account. I will never deal with Discount Tire again because of this. That's just shady. It's really a shame because I like the tires and the service was good, but I won't get fooled again.

My mother created an account with this company before it was called Blue Eagle--it was a credit union for Postal Employees. The company became public and their systems changed. For some reason in that transition, they converted my account into a joint account with hers. She got into some financial trouble and Blue Eagle held ME responsible. There was nothing I could do about it even though the change was made on their end without my knowledge. I immediately stopped using them because they held my money hostage of their own volition. Fast forward to today, my credit score dropped by 100 points over night, and I finally got around to researching it. Hulu auto-drew from the account I was no longer using, and instead of Blue Eagle attempting to reach out to me, call, email, etc., that I had an overdue balance, they instead charged me $30 finance charges TWICE, so I ended up owing $72.00 off of a $12 original charge. I was never made aware that the account was in the negative, I was never made aware of a first finance charge, and I was never made aware of a second charge. I only made myself aware after checking my credit through Experian. I called Blue Eagle, and the first lady I talked to was very rude and refused to do anything to help me. She eventually suggested I talk with loss prevention so I did. I was transferred to Tony, who was the only helpful person in all of this. The company has some very sketchy practices, and I ended up having to pay the full amount including the finance charges even though all of this was due to their lack of communication. While I was speaking with Tony I could even hear the original employee laughing and mocking the phone call I had with her in the background. Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. Tony listened closely and was helpful, even though there was nothing he could do about the situation. Give that man a raise (or Tony, please find a better company to work for if you read this.) I would avoid this credit union like the plague, they'll hold your money hostage, charge you outrageous fees, damage your credit, and never contact you about any of it. Be careful with your money. 0/10 except for Tony. read more

As soon as I walked in the door I was warmly greeted by a friendly teller, who was happy to see me because she was the person who opened my account years ago and had returned back to this branch. This relationship banking is something that I value the most about my membership here. I am treated and valued as a person instead of just a number. It doesn't matter if you open an account with just $5. This deposit gives you a share of ownership in the credit union. This particular branch is very special to me for its interior design. Framed old black and white photographs of the City of Roanoke compliment its rustic architectural design, pointing to the historical significance of the Star City of the South. And it also highlights this credit union's mission. Freedom First Credit Union's mission is to help people prosper and communities thrive. To them, "Where People Bank for Good," is not just a neat slogan, it means that they utilize their members collective resources, resulting from their shared success, to be an economic catalyst in our community and improve the quality of life for everyone. One of the service they provide through the Roanoke Financial Empowerment Center is an opportunity to meet with a financial counselor and receive financial education and advice. Another is meeting with a credit union representative to review your current services and if you would benefit from switching some or adding additional ones. And yet another is meeting with a financial planner to talking about savings and investments and the power of compounding interest. Even though I still have an account with a large bank as well, Bank of America, which I've had since I started attending the University. That at that time was known as Bank of Boston, I have great pride of being a banking customer of Freedom First Credit Union and would highly recommend it to all those considering opening an account for the first time or those considering switching financial institutions because they are not happy with the service or personal attention they are receiving elsewhere.
