I recently cut a trip super close and was so lucky to travel day before thanksgiving and not mess up my trip! My husband and I had meetings that ran over and managed to make it to the airport 10 minutes before boarding started for our flight. There was no wait and TSA was friendly and expedient in getting us through security (thanks pre-check!). This airport is always clean and with small terminals, it is easy to navigate. Updating my review since I recently flew out of Blue Grass Airport. First, it's a small airport, which to be honest, I really prefer, since it's easier to navigate and typically not overcrowded. Secondly, the DJ for the Blue Grass Airport still is creating a really awesome playlist. Playlists have everything from blues to B-52s, to 80s, 90s, and today. From the TSA agents to the gate agents, everyone I came into contact was pleasant. The airport is also very clean. read more

This was my first time ever visiting Lexington, thus the first time using this airport. The airport is really small, I think they have just 12 total gates. They do have a lounge here and it's available to all airlines, as long as you have lounge status with the airline you're flying. The staff at the airport were very friendly and being as small as it is, it's easy to navigate. Rental car is walkable, which I love (hate having to take shuttle busses) and right next to the terminal. Nice flight in and out and a decent airport! read more

Smaller airport, very easy to navigate. The Southern hospitality was in effect at 4 am this morning when I rolled in, with cheery service from the Dunkin staff (my mouth said "Hell Yeah" to ordering 2 French cruellers while my stomach muttered "I Hate You!") and friendly Good Mornings from other airport staff. My flights through here have always been on time, and there are decent hotels within 5 minutes with no traffic issues. One improvement would be to provide better signage for Rideshare, as it can be hard to find your Uber when the drivers pull up in the same lane as local pickup. read more

Absolutely beautiful approach. Window seat people know that the typical view is industrial. But LEX is all horse farms, by design. Zoning prohibits the usual hotels/transfer truck stops near the airport. Not surprised it's top 50 but I'd vote it top 10 read more

The modestly sized airport on the edge of Lexington is a breeze to get through, if not to get to. I had no trouble getting around the place, and it's the sort of place where TSA precheck is hardly necessary. On the other hand, there are few transit options and it is a decent hike from the center of the city. I found Lyft an effective option. There is parking, but it was considerably more expensive to park than to rideshare, at least for me. It's also an aesthetically pleasing structure with a lot of Kentuckiana and nice views of the countryside. read more

Bluegrass Airport is a tiny little airport with short runways that don't support larger airplanes for better or for worse. Check in was a cinch and went far more quickly than expected even after accounting for Kentucky time. There were charming announcements about shoes being left behind at security and sunglasses being left behind at a gate. This kind of thing makes me happy since such events would certainly not have been newsworthy at O'Hare or JFK. Folks were largely nice enough and efficient enough -- especially the lovely woman at my gate who had to announce major flight delays to Charlotte. She shared as much information as was humanly possible about how to try to catch connecting flights. There are two sit down restaurants with bar service (Bourbon Library, Sir Veza's); a lounge (the Club at Blue Grass) serving pre-packaged snacks (Smartfood popcorn, Oreos, granola bars, Rice Krispie Treats, fruit cocktail cups) and soft drinks / coffee / tea, accessible to Delta Sky Club, American Airlines' Admirals Club and United Club members, Amex Platinum cardholders, and active-duty military; a bourbon specialty shop; a convenience / souvenir store; and yep, a Dunkin' Donuts. Bathrooms were clean. Lots of chargers around, built into seats, and a few desk areas. It's not the worst place to be stranded for a few extra hours if you just need a place to hunker down and work. read more

Told by captain Fuel truck ran out of liquid multiple times with planes ahead of us and twice on us. It's now 8:30 and we're just pulling away from gait. I would give the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky a solid four stars. It is a small airport so security does not take long to navigate. And I checked my bag in less than 5 minutes with American Airlines. I have TSA PreCheck which was offered, however it is not a separate line. I was handed a red card when the gate agent checked my ID and boarding pass. For future reference if this happens to you READ the card LOL. I did not read the card and assumed I didn't have to take my laptop out of my bag because I was PreCheck, but I was wrong! I didn't have to take off my shoes or my jacket, but my laptop had to come out and be placed in a bin to go through the X-ray machine. Once through security, I traveled up a set of escalators and then saw terminals to the right and to the left. Again, this is not a big airport so you can check out all the businesses and restaurants if you get there early enough. I browsed the bourbon store Cork and Barrel. And I stopped by and had a local KY beer at one of the only restaurants in the terminals. I didn't eat any food as my parents and I had lunch before they dropped me off. My flight was on time and boarding was fairly easy. We were off to the Charlotte Airport in no time. read more

There are tons of horse pictures, souvenirs, bourbon barrels, even a tv of Keeneland's past races. Clean & quaint, highly secured when you head back through security, which only took about 10m. Two bars, one Mexican & one ale & bourbon bar. I thoroughly enjoyed the Cork & Barrel Store, where I had placed ordered to pickup upon departure already. Also a great way to start by picking up a small bottle of Lexington Bourbon for the hotel. I highly advise to rent-a-cat at the airport because Uber & the rental car saved us $140 when I calculated travel. Taxi is just as bad. read more

When it comes to mid size airports, Blue Grass Lexington rates up there with the others such as Savannah. Getting there is easy and the rental car site is next to the main terminal. There aren't many airlines flying into this location. I believe it's mainly Delta, United, American and Allegiant. If you're looking to fly Southwest, jetBlue or Spirit, you may need to look at other nearby airports such as Cincinnati. The TSA is a bit slow, especially with precheck so be sure to get there early. There seems to be only 2 terminals----A & B. There's a Club at Lex which allows members of Admirals Club, SkyClub and United Premier Club to enter for snacks, beverages and workspace. Day passes are also available. There's plenty of seating and work areas in the terminal. Also places to eat and shop while waiting for your flight. read more

Overall: Nice, simple, very laid back midsize airport that has friendly service and easy to get around. Pros: Simple navigation around with luggage pickup at bottom of escalator right next to rentals and pickup- rental cars a simple walk (no shuttles) next to terminal, very friendly staff. Relaxed before TSA in the Paddock Gallery (see photos) and playing 80s music throughout airport. Delta lines to check in are relatively quick and simple and no "lines" really. TSA took under 2 minutes!!! I am a huge fan of this airport for the simple fact that it is easy to get to and easy to navigate! For my last few trips, I showed up 30 minutes before boarding and breezed through it and still had plenty of time to grab a snack! The restaurant that takes priority pass is no longer there though, so that makes me sad. read more

If like flying out of LEX. The flights for Delta are the same price (or cheaper) than flying out of Louisville which is nice since I don't have to drive too far to get to the airport. The TSA security is nicer and easier to get through than other airports (I'm looking at you Orlando). And by that I mean the security line is never never long. They still make you take off your shoes and everything, but it is super quick. They searched my ponytail. It is still easier than trying to visit at Kentucky State Penitentiary. read more

And yes, I'm willing to pay a little bit more for a flight to fly out of here rather than Cincinnati or Louisville. I've never been to CVG or SDF, but I'm liking LEX just fine. It may be a small airport, but it's clean and modern with a quick security checkpoint and just enough food places & stores to keep you busy. Plus, there's that Big Ass Fan in the main lobby, which is always fun to giggle at. There's a plaque about the fan near the line for security. I was standing in the line around 5am when I read that plaque and literally had to blink and rub my eyes a couple times because I didn't believe I was reading "Big Ass Fan" but indeed.... I was! The security guy got a kick out of my reactions. You'll do just fine for all my future travels, LEX. read more

Blue Grass Airport is usually fairly quiet unless there's horse racing, Kentucky Basketball, or Kentucky Football. After all, is there anything else? GO BIG BLUE!! The airport staff is friendly and helpful, as are the sales people that staff the local shops and restaurants in the LEX airport.. Security screening is usually painless and efficient even if there major events taking place. The TSA staff is courteous and helpful even when I've transited during events. The terminal is usually clean and plays good mood music to calm the traveler while waiting for flights. read more

Why 4 stars? Because it's small, but efficient. --- --- --- At first, I was prepared to laugh as I flew into one of the smallest airports I've ever been in... but I don't really have any complaints. They have a decent amount of food options, and it's actually a breath of fresh air to not have to wait in the typical crazy security lines that you deal with in bigger cities. I was even able to try some local beer while I waited for my plane to arrive. I didn't expect that. My favorite about the airport is its location - it's a close, non-congested drive into the heart of Lexington. And the best part? As you leave the airport grounds, you drive through the middle of rolling hills, horses, and white picket fences. It's a great scenic welcome to the area. read more

I have been through here numerous times with both domestic and international flights. The most people I've seen there is much less than the amount of people that I usually see at other airports. It's always pretty quiet and calm here. I would recommend getting here an hour early to get checked in and be precessed through the security line. Usually that gives me time for everything including restroom stops and checking for gates having some time leftover to wait in front of the gate. There's a gift shop with all kinds of Kentucky merchandise so get yourself a Kentucky shirt to add to your collection :) This is one of my favorite airports not be cause of five-star restaurants and fancy amenities like others but because of its convenience and calm atmosphere. read more

This is a perfect small airport with easy in and out parking. 10 minutes from my destination. Check in is fast and easy. I was a pre check so it was even easier and faster to check in . Bluegrass airport recently added a Dunkin Donuts coffee shop which is a east coast thing. I was pleasantly surprised when I returned on my last trip to see this added addition. So far flights have been on time and the staff is friendly and helpful. The airport is super clean with nice paintings of keeneland and of course horses. Keeneland is located right opposite the airport so I imagine this is a nightmare at Derby time. Still very conveniently located. I fly in on a regular basis and highly recommend this airport! read more

Needless to say I'm never flying in or out of here again. The TSA was rude and the airport was hot. I had a souvenir from the Titanic museum we went to. It was fully wrapped in the paper the store put it in, and in the back that said Titanic! They said they have to throw it away and would not let it on because it was liquid! It was a plastic replica of the boat hitting an iceberg and had the blue liquid to represent the ocean. I did not think this was a big deal considering common sense shows it's a souvenir! That did not matter to them. They refused to test it, refused to let us get our checked bags and put it in there. Literally gave us no choices but to throw it away. We tried saying what is the difference between that and a huge bottle of musinex the lady in front of us brought. Considering that is an over the counter medication you can get anywhere. They really didn't care and had the audacity to say "email the president he makes the rules" being a complete B**** about it. Then happily said they confiscated snow globes before. As if that's something to be proud of, ruining someone's vacation. The lack of care or understanding from this place is ridiculous. I will make sure I tell anyone and everyone I can to never fly here. There comes a point where they can do something if they chose to but they got joy out of ruining our trip home. They even said if we have a car here leave it here, and we said we don't live here we're going home. And still didn't care. Rude people and no AC on top of that. read more

This is a small regional airport. There is no need to get here 2 hours early. I shoot to make it to the parking lot 1 hour before departure (not boarding) and I always have enough time to grab a coffee or a drink before boarding. There is really only one restaurant, but it has Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale - so its awesome. If you are not from the area, you HAVE to try it! Great airport for a nap and charging electronics--before going through security. I almost had a bad trip...had an unfortunate 4+ hour wait before a flight. I didn't go though security I went towards the bathrooms and there is a lounge with chairs tables and even massage chairs. It was quiet and I slept in a massage chair, with a short walk to vape and stretch as needed. The gift shop before the security check will give you a free bourbon balls if you ask nicely. Also once you wake from your nap it makes security a breeze and once you're through you can stare sleepily at a lego excavator. There's a slice of heaven inside the terminal, the bourbon and wine shop, and Mexican food. Tacos and whiskey baby! Whoo-hooo! read more
