Every time I come to visit my mom we come eat here and every time there are issues. Either the server is no where to be found, the order comes wrong or cold. I do not recommend this place for food but if you want to come have a drink, hang out and listen to live music it's good for that. But just don't eat here and know it'll take forever for the server to get to you and then forever again to get the food out to your table. read more

It's always busy on nights with music. We support the restaurant and they definitely try hard to give us all a nice experience. Staffing is often tricky for them and this is no different than everywhere else. I am eating a WFPB diet so this is hard for me at the restaurant but my mil and dh have no trouble getting their favs... salmon, the fish and chips, the country fried steak... While it's a little off the beaten path and you have to go through security at TGO Resort to get there, but dinner at the Blue Heron is definitely worth the effort. The new managers have improved both the food and service and, with all the drunk RVers, it can get really loud. My pasta and meat sauce was excellent, though my wife would pass on getting the steak quesadillas again. Our friend scored with the homemade chicken pot pie. The service is both friendly and familiar, with just the right timing on table visits. Good job, Mandi. I'm glad the Blue Heron got it together and earned a positive review. This place has gone downhill very fast. I used to come at least once a week and the food was amazing, but since they fired their chef, it has gone from bad to worse. This Saturday I found out the manager has also quit because they never gave her a day off. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the moral and everything about this restaurant is very poor. Whoever is responsible for this place needs to be fired as they once had a winning formula and now, they have a catastrophe. I won't be back anytime soon! read more

This place is SAD and PATETIC! 1st visit a few months ago - can't cook simple salmon - it was under-cooked and the most expensive dish on their menu! Is over priced too and trying to be fancy by failing miserably. Vegetable choice was moooshy spinach which was disgusting. Salad had old lettuce in it that showed wilting and browning! 2nd visit - just as bad! Served Chicken parm and had to ask twice for parm cheese to put on the spaghetti. The taste was bland, and the chicken was over-cooked! Said it came w/ bread but we never saw it - as the careless and clueless server never brought it! We are residents if The Great outdoors. We have been to the Blue Heron Restaurant probably 4 30 times. We have tried to engage the manager Karen on numerous occasions but no response. Today I did ask her if we had done something to upset her and she said no. Her answer to us was. I have apologized 3times and that was it. It pains me to write this review because I've been a champion of this restaurant, really wanting to see it succeed but it is unfortunately failing. I am a resident of this community. The staff is actually steering people away from ordering certain dishes saying they're terrible. More often than not they're out of something you order and if you do receive your meal, it's mediocre at best. The management of the community is to blame. The staff are trying their best but they get no support. I'm sad to say that I will not go back unless something drastically changes. read more

We had a group of about 30 people last night and I just want to say that the serving staff did an amazing job of keeping our drinks full and serving our good flawlessly. Matt, our bartender was personable and when he wasn't pouring drinks, was helping the servers clear tables and refill waters. They all worked as a team. The food was good. Most at our table had the planked salmon. It was delicious and the she crab soup was very tasty although it could have been hotter. If you need somewhere to go for a nice dinner whether it be for 2 or a large group I recommend Blue Heron. read more

I have eaten at the Blue Heron Restaurant several times in the past year, with companions are RV'ers who have a home in the resort. I have watched this location go through several iterations of the past two decades. My experience this week was profoundly disappointing. We were in for lunch. We sat ourselves as their was no one paying attention at the host stand with the 'Please Wait To Be Seated Sign' at a table that had a stack of menus on it. The server eventually came and took our drink order. There were only two other tables occupied in the dining room and one or two Guests at the bar. One of my companions tried to order the Chicken Quesadilla, but could not, as they were out of a couple of the ingredients. They both ended up ordering Philly Cheese Steaks, one with Sweet Potato fries and one with a fresh fruit cup. I ordered the Pasta Alfredo and a salad, I ordered the balsamic vinegarette, as they were out of ranch dressing. The salad was a handful of spring mix and some cherry tomatoes. The balsamic dressing came in a 2 oz plastic ramekin so full to the brim it was about to overflow. The dressing was an astringent emulsion and just not very good. 30 minutes later our food arrived. The Philly Cheese Steaks were on hoagie rolls that were just not up to the task. My friends both thought they were not flavorful nor tender, nor as good as they had been in the past. The fresh fruit cup was excellent, and the portion of sweet potato fries on the plate that could have fed three people were OK. The pasta dish was disappointing. The Farfalle pasta was over cooked, and the dish was not particularly hot. The portion size was huge. Enough for two full hungry man portions. There was a load of broccoli and asparagus and veggies. There was definitely basil pesto in the sauce, but it was not creamy, nor was there much in the way of cheese flavor. I was told later they had turned over some staff. I hope they find some new help soon. With that few guests in the room I can't image why a chef/manager did not stop out to check on the table. The country club type restaurant world is a tough one to be a chef/manager in. You have hundreds of members, all who think they know your job better than you do. They all will say what they will want, but when you menu it they don't come for it. It is also hard to make money in this setting, your prices are pushed downward by membership/residents, and if you need to make personnel changes, you are often in the place where every employee has friend who are members/residents, so it can be hard to take needed actions. As I looked at the lunch menu I saw the burgers were 1/2 pound burgers for $10.50. The majority if the 70 and 80 year olds who I know there find that portion size ridiculous and off-putting. If you want to actually have octogenarians come for lunch, you need to offer the burger in a 1/4 pound size as well. read more

We had a great server but the kitchen failed to make one of our guest's meal. We waited, finally started eating and the missing meal showed up as we were almost finished. The manager was a real jerk about, finally taking it off the tab. He never came out our table. Never apologized. We will never go back until the "Under new management" sign goes up. We went to the Blue Heron the other night. The new management is doing an excellent job. I'm sure the three star rating will rise quickly. It was a very pleasant experience. I had the salmon and the other two people with me had the New York strip steak. The food was excellent. The beer and the martini were also wonderful. The Keylime pie was one of the best we've had in the area. The food is very reasonably priced. The service was also superb. We are definitely going to be coming back. Much improved! Just went for lunch to try new Farm to Table menu and the new Chef. It was absolutely delicious......when you walk up and see fresh herbs growing in the flower beds......it's always a good sign!! This is the restaurant in The Great Outdoors RV and golf resort. It is right on the golf course and overlooks a pretty pond. The menu is somewhat limited but everything is good and affordable. Their interpretation of some typical american fare is just different. Cobb salad was good but not really a cobb salad. Prime rib must be reserved in advance for Saturday nights. Breakfast buffet was a good value. Service is always very friendly and they like feedback. read more

We were excited about the new menu. Yet once again when we tried to go to BH we had a disappointing experience. Tuesday we had another poor quality meal and service. We were given menus but no napkin and utensils. Ordered a marguerita, had to send it back as it was in a broken glass. Watched as the bartender directed the waitress to pour the drink into another glass and reserve the same liquid from the broken gla Husband ordered French onion soup which was to be followed by a sandwich with a side of onion petals. Sandwich came with the soup, no onion petals. The soup was not hot and the cheese on top was more firm indicting the soup had been sitting out cooling. Asked the waitress to get the manager. The assistant manager was there. He apologized, removed the marguerita for the bill; comped a dessert; and brought the onion petals to go home. Sadly this is typical of the service and quality we have received when we try to go to BH every few weeks. February 9. This evening we were delighted with our dinner at the Blue Heron! This is a beautiful venue with very average food. Had lunch there and ordered a portobello mushroom pasta dish. There might have been one slice of portobello in there somewhere, but it was 99% button mushrooms and to be honest, they looked canned. The creamy sauce was tasteless and unseasoned. I took it home and added herbs and salt and pepper and it became edible. Just not up to my standards. The dessert sounded great and I almost never leave dessert on the plate, but...meh. No chef at lunch maybe? Also the service was very pleasant, but absolutely horrible. My husband wandered around the restaurant looking for ketchup for his burger after a request for it went unmet for about 10 minutes as his food got cold and our server was missing in action. I saw a lot of positive reviews here before we tried it and all I can say is, like many places, probably the dinner experience is different. read more
