A cute local vibe! Loved the history that came along with this experience. The French onion soup was absolutely to die for! We also split a burger and it came out nicely cooked. Wine pours were great and the service was friendly!

Ashley's of Rockledge is located in a historic Tudor that has seen its share of businesses. Through the years its been Jack's Tavern, Cooney's Tavern, the Mad Duchess, the Loose Caboose, Sparrow Hawk and Gentleman Jim's before it becoming Ashley's in 1985. Back when it was known as Jack's in 1934, the body of Ethel Allen, a 19 year old local of the area, was found violently murdered on the shores of the nearby Indian River. She was known as a regular of Ashley's and it was one of the last places she was seen. Her killer was never caught. It is believed that Ethel's murder has resulted in ghostly activity centered around the ladies restroom. People have also reported the feeling of being pushed by an invisible force while ascending or descending the stairs. Lights have been seen flickering on and off during the night, burglar alarms go off, and glasses and dishes fall and break without cause. Employees hear whispering in the restaurant after closing and find that objects have moved when they open the next morning. I love a good ghost story so I have wanted to visit Ashley's every time I passed the exit but I was always rushing off to somewhere else. I finally got a chance to explore a bit of Rockledge this summer and fell in love with Brevard County's oldest city. I had lunch at Ashley's it was an interesting experience. The place looks worn but I guess that is part of the ambiance. There is a first and second floor to dine on. I can't say I received the warmest welcome but I settled in for lunch. Ashley's thrives on its ghost stories. The menu is filled with nods to its reputation as being haunted. Sections include sinister starters, Ashley's eternal favorites, spirits, drafts of the dead, wicked wines, ghostly pasta, slaughterhouse, killer burgers, dead man's tacos, ghoul greens, souls and stew, and death by dessert. The menu has several pages of American homestyle food and prices are reasonable. I had a serviceable patty melt with fries. Unlike the spirits of Ashley's I didn't linger long but was happy to strike it off my bucket list.

Lunch here was like a step back in time (in the best of ways). Generous portions of delicious fresh food, cold beers, and friendly knowledgable service from Amber. We had Irish Nachos, local craft IPAs, and a wonderful afternoon talking about ghosts and learning some local history. The interior is authentic and vintage, and every inch is clean, welcoming, and comfy. We will be back.

This restaurant is a Rockledge staple known for being haunted. I've been going here since I was a child with my grandmother and my sister. We've got lots of good memories here the food is delicious At least I think so. Anyways, they have good mahi sandwiches and even better French onion soup. I always sit at the bar. The service is always fantastic. I've been there for lunch and dinner and it never disappoints. The ambience is dated, but yet not in a bad way. It reminds you of all the history that's there. They also have some nights hanging plants in the middle of the restaurant.. there is an outside area some days they do karaoke. This is a great place that I will continue to frequent..

Really cool place. Food was good, reasonably priced. Drink menu lacked descriptions and the person taking my order wasn't helpful. If you like spooky stuff this is a good place. The back of the menu has the story of the haunted building. Upstairs was so cool, hanging plants and nice view

Found this gem while driving through Rockledge. Nice home feeling with friendly staff. Drinks came out fast. Food was absolutely amazing. Wife loved the shrimp and chicken parm was well made. We will be coming back here for sure.

Quaint restaurant in Rockledge, Florida. Comfort food and cozy very casual atmosphere. Fast service and friendly. We went for breakfast service and ordered their corn beef hash special which is our go to breakfast wherever we go. Can't wait to try their dinner service. We didn't get to experience the friendly spirit today but it's fun to look at round and wait to see if something pops up.

Irish nachos. Omg... Huge portion! Very good though.

Cute place. Awesome wait staff and service. A little toasty in the attic. Food was very good. You won't leave hungry.

Seating is a little old and dated but it's a pub so who cares. With their windows open you can sit outside, they have a very generous patio area. I moved from inside to outside, had a nice glass of wine and enjoyed the atmosphere. It's an incredibly friendly atmosphere lots of fun people and if you want dessert after having one of their giant pretzels there's ice cream next-door. The music was fine, the people were fine and did I mention that they are dog friendly? I got to pet all the puppies! That just made me even happier if it was possible. I hardly ever go anywhere anymore since Covid so this was a wonderful change. I will be back for sure and enjoy the ambience, the wonderful service, and the atmosphere. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about the Village Idiot pub!

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more Apparently, the Yelp Skynet a.k.a. the AI that green or red flags reviews, doesn't like the actual name of this pub despite the fact it is the pub's name. Ergo, I will use the abbreviation VI for the remainder of this review. Besides that, you really can't go wrong going to any of the pubs in Historic Cocoa Village. VI is one of the pubs on the eastern side of the Village, in between the famous Fat Donkey's Ice Cream and the furthest east pub in the village, Ryan's. Appearance-wise, the outside fits primarily with the building, but there are some minute details that give it its own personality, primarily around its name. There is also a section of the road and sidewalk that have been garrisoned for VI as outdoor seating and games such as bean bag toss. Indoors, it is definitely your kinda pub that many of the patrons are friends. The right side (East) have long tables with many pub and drinking games such as Hook & Ring and Shut The Box. There is a bookshelf filled to the brim with board games in case patrons prefer traditional or childhood classics. The left side (West) is the "Patio," a room that is decorated by numerous plants, neon lighting, widker and a black-and-white checkerboard floor. Finally, the middle of the pub is the actual bar, in the form of an L-shape serving a nice arrangement of beers from many breweries, cideries, distilleries, and meaderies across the United States. I had the Kentucky Vanilla Barrel Cream Ale by Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. Other beer selections I would recommend include the Pineapple Cider by the famous Carib Brewing Co. and the Mango Cart by Golden Road Brewing. Personal note on the latter: Mango Carts, well for me, only taste good when straight from the tap. Cans are not good. And the food, it is minimal, but boy does VI know how to tug at my heartstrings as everything they have features, or could feature, cheese. They have pretzels with cheese, pickles with cheese, and my personal favorite, grilled cheese sandwiches. And for the more sophisticated patron, they have numerous choices in charcuterie boards, too. I will also state the drink prices are a bit on the high side compared to some other places I been to. And there are two restrooms that are single-serving and gender-specific. I don't believe the latter has to be gender-specific because they are single-serving. The barn doors are an interesting choice because they are not very good at blocking sound. I guess that is why VI blasts the music so nobody can hear the flatulence. Speaking of music, VI does have a small corner stage for small acts, possibly singular, to perform. Unless there is a pull-out large stage for outdoor performances, I don't see big bands, per se in higher number of members, performing here unless they can all jam in that tight-spaced stage. Ultimately, I am going to give VI three-out-of-five stars for this review. They are a solid pub that has all the fixin's of a good bar to go to. Maybe it is safe to say they really don't stand out too much, especially amongst the more unique bars in Historic Cocoa Village. But still, a good place to have a drink with friends with that "Everybody knows your name" kinda vibe.
