Rating: -100/10 I'm not usually one to leave bad reviews, in fact this is my very first, but this time it's necessary. I recently came here to get a tattoo as a walk in appointment. Let me preface by saying I totally understand that this was a walk in appointment, however there is a certain unsaid rule about what you expect in terms of quality when you go to get a tattoo, appointment or not. When my friend and I walked in, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted done (image below). Upon talking to the artist, Paulie, I made sure to let him know that I was getting this tattoo to cover up scars, so it was very meaningful to me. We agreed that he would draw up a sketch so as to not copy the original artist's work. He took some time to draw up a new stencil (image below) and I really liked the way the drawing looked, so I agreed to continue on with the tattoo. Once the stencil was placed, I still really enjoyed the way it looked so we agreed to get started. However, before we started, I made it very clear that I wanted the lines more on the dainty side, as seen in the original inspo picture, and I also wanted very minimal shading, if any at all. He started doing the line work and it was off to a great start. The first leaf he did looked great! The lines were thin and the line thickness was consistent. As he gets further into the tattoo, it starts getting painful, which causes me to not pay as much attention to how he is tattooing (I don't believe I should have to double check the quality of the work as it's being done, but). Eventually the line work was completed and initially, it looked fine to me (I was also trying not to pass out so my full attention was not on the consistency of the tattoo at the time). He then says he's going to start shading and once again I mention that I'd like it to be minimal. Once he gets about halfway through the shading, I take a look and it is way darker and taking up more of the tattoo than I had expected from what we discussed. his response was something along the lines of "don't worry, it'll lighten up once it's healed". I took his word for it (which I realize is partially my fault) and let him continue. Again, the pain gets bad enough that I'm really not paying attention for a while. As he's finishing up, I take another peek and see this smokey shading in the background of my tattoo that was never once discussed. We had only discussed minimal shading in the leaves and branches, nothing in the background. I told him I absolutely did not like it and again, he just said something along the lines of "when it heals it'll be a lot lighter". My (and multiple other tattoo artist's opinions from different shops) suspicion as to why he did this background smoke shading without my permission, was to try to cover the blown out lines that he had previously tattooed. When the tattoo was completed (image below), I said I didn't like it, and again he dismissed me. For the next 48 hours I was having a panic attack because of how poorly it was done and how incredibly different it was from what I asked for (which I understand is a bit dramatic). I went to another shop two days later to get their opinion and make sure I wasn't being overdramatic, and they told me it was, in fact, a horrible tattoo with blown out, inconsistent lines, inconsistent shading, and was completely different than my reference and even the stencil. Because I'm so unhappy with the tattoo, they recommend that i have it lasered since it is too dark to try to cover. Now I have a consult in a couple weeks to when I can have it removed, because an artist at the Blue Horseshoe in Hampton cannot produce quality work. I will update as I have more laser appointments. Update: I called the shop and asked to speak to the manager about coming to some sort of resolution. When I asked, he laughed in my face (well, phone I guess) and said it wasn't his problem anymore because the artist had already been paid. It was extremely rude and disrespectful. read more

Great establishment with outstanding service and phenomenal staff. Cleanliness and friendliness were top tier, per usual, just with extra precautions of mandatory masks, social distancing, plus more sanitizer. I was a walk-in for second lobe piercings and a double nostril. Justin, the shop owner (!!), pierced me which was incredibly cool and he was really patient as he answered all my questions and waited for me to pick out jewelry. I found some more understated titanium pieces sans stones that suit me and had them all anodized. The whole time I was talking due to nervousness but the procedure was pretty quick once the placements were set. Justin kindly humoured me with excellent conversation throughout, which was educational, entertaining, and ultimately calming. His professional and amiable demeanor really lent to the entire experience being exceptional. As for pain and price, it was more akin to mild discomfort than pain and the price was on par for the jewelry but doesn't touch the quality of service. Got my nose pierced at the Virginia Beach location on a Monday. Two days later my ring is sinking into my nose because apparently the bar was bent too far and it became too short to accommodate the swelling. Called that location and was told the piercer is off but I could come to a different location. Portsmouth's was off too, but Hampton's was available. Came about an hour after they opened and was told he'd help and check it out, but there were a few people waiting to be pierced before me. No problem. We hang out and wait. I don't recommend bringing kids there because it is fairly boring, but they did have a tv on for the little ones. I had to bring mine because of prior commitments, but she didn't mind as paw patrol was on lol. Justin helps me out. I learned that he's the owner and my experience with him was actually pretty calming. He helped me swap out the shorter bar for a longer one (if you were curious, it was as if I was getting it pierced all over again *sad face*), gave me an after care hand out, wrote down the length of the bar, and gave me some tips and tricks to help the swelling go down. He didn't rush me, he didn't make me feel foolish, and I was comfortable the whole time. I'd recommend driving the extra couple miles/minutes to see Justin. read more

She took a lot of the fun out of the experience and made me feel overlooked like she just wanted to get it done. I assumed it was because of swelling but after four day it still looked wrong. I went to the body bar In Patrick Henry mall to have it checked. they said it was absolutely pierced incorrectly, not only was it pierced too far back but also at an angle causing a lot of discomfort. As this is my first tat, I can't speak much to the quality and what is my responsibility vs. the parlor's but my lines are a little smudgy and not entirely uniform. Left here in tears after being reprimanded like a child by a tattoo artist named RHINO. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and whoever else necessary. I regret the entire experience. Never will I return to this shop. I came to start a sleeve at this location and will never be returning. I got tattooed by Rhino. It was a mandala piece. He tells me I can't watch him while he tattoos me and that he doesn't enjoy doing mandalas. He was RUDE from the jump but I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. Fine. I get tattooed by him & when it heals, the line work needs touching up. I go by the shop and the artist was not there but I was told the owner was and so I could talk to him about my tattoo. I told the owner I needed a touch up because I wasn't happy with the line work and that I would return to Rhino to get it. The owner ASKED ME what I wanted to get done. The owner was very nice. So today, I go into the shop to get my touch up. It it hurting more than usual and bleeding more than usual but I chalked it up to me being too sensitive. He ALSO started tattooing me and then stopped to SHAVE my arm in the middle of tattooing and then continued. I don't know think this is normal. Mind you-- I have 12 tattoos. REGARDLESS of being in pain and BLEEDING more than usual from his aggressive work, I give Rhino a good tip-- WORST MISTAKE. When I go to leave the shop, Rhino is outside and he says he wants to talk to me. He explains to me and I quote "if you had a problem with me you could have came to me, in the real world you don't go around telling people's bosses." I was shocked. He said "I thought we were cool, I really liked you." He also says "Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about." He then says, "In the real world adults don't go going around to other adult's bosses"-- as if I am a CHILD. I am not, I am a grown ass woman. I am appalled at this disgusting customer service and his overall attitude from the START. I didn't have a problem since I clearly was getting my tattoo touched up by him. It's not my fault he messed it up the first time and the owner ASKED ME what I needed done. Needless to say, it makes sense why my arm is swollen and bleeding because Rhino tattooed me so hard that he had to put a paper towel on my arm to stop the bleeding. He reprimanded me outside in front of the entire store and I was so embarrassed. I have never left a tattoo shop where I was in pain, DISRESPECTED but still tipped well and then was reprimanded by a tattoo artist. It's humiliating, embarrassing and down right wrong. If you get offended that you didn't do work right the first time, maybe you shouldn't be a tattoo artist. Rhino continues to tell me he's worked with owner well over 20 years and never had a problem until me. I was so upset I sat in my car wondering what to do. Since Rhino made me feel as though now, I can't discuss this behavior with the owner, I am going to take this problem to the Better Business Bureau. I will never recommend this place to anyone and will be finishing my sleeve elsewhere. After doing research, I've read multiple bad reviews about Rhino & multiple people have claimed to have gotten an infected tattoo from him. One review about an infected tattoo was from 7 years ago. My artist was Rhino, and he did such a cool job starting with what I wanted and then using his expertise to actually make it look really cool (I'm not good at seeing the whole picture in my head). He works really fast, and I could not fault the safety/hygiene. He used 6 stencils on me and every time he picked up a new stencil, he changed gloves. My tattoo was very small and simple - basically a triangle with a line, so I feel this was sort of over-priced.
