I decided that I wanted to get a naval piercing and called around to a few different tattoo places in the area for availability and pricing. I called Ocean Mystique and the lady was very nice, gave me the price of the tattoo, which was $35 for basic jewelry, but at the time I called, the piercer wasn't there. She did mention that he should be in some time in the early evening so I was a little disappointed but once I did call back around 5-6pm, he had made it to the shop. As soon as we walked in, they were was a rope at the front door not allowing us to continue in the shop until we had our temperature checked and sanitized our hands. I appreciated the extra level of care to ensure we weren't feverish or experiencing any virus symptoms. I really liked how clean the tattoo shop was, I was very impressed. The piercer went over the piercing guidelines and after care and was all set up for me in the matter of minutes. Once I was in the room, I did ask him if he minded me taking pictures or recording and he did so I respected that and did not record or take any pics of me getting pierced. The naval piercing was over in less than 2 mins. He made it quick, easy and fairly painless. I chose this place because they provided the cheapest naval piercings in the area and I'm glad I did. *Just FYI, if you "Check In" to this place on Yelp, a $10 off coupon might pop up but they set up that coupon a while ago and it's not valid anymore. I went in without an appointment to see if I could get a tattoo I had roughly drawn in my notes app. When I got there the guy told me it looked like a 5 year old drew it, I explained that it was my rough drawing not the exact piece I wanted and then he drew it up for me. The initial guy i met wasn't rude just a tough guy, i wasn't offended. After that he helped me decide which way it should go and we joked about it being upside down, the person who did the tattoo was very friendly and talked with me throughout. I have 5 tattoos - each from a different tattoo parlor. At Ocean Mystique they were somewhat dismissive when my best friend and I arrived... I just got the feeling that since I was in my business attire from work that they assumed I knew nothing about tattoos and I was out of place (though I have about an 18 inch tattoo on my back that can't be seen unless I'm in a bathing suit). While no one was outwardly rude to us they seemed like we were wasting their time or just idiots in general which was annoying to me but I suppose they figure the big tattoos like arm pieces and back pieces that take 5 hours are more worth their time than our small 10 minute tattoos. My friend and I both decided to get very small tattoos for $60 each - which is probably the minimum price for a tattoo there, no problem, they also told us when we paid there was a $3 service fee for a credit card, ok - no problem I get it. Before I paid I told the girl I wanted a pink bumblebee tattoo - not yellow and black - and that I had heard pink was hard to show, etc. etc. and asked about it. She said no worries the guy would do whatever I wanted so I went ahead and paid. My friend went first, she got a small orange heart tattooed on her wrist - it was over quickly and we didn't have to wait very long at all - maybe 10-15 minutes before she got her tattoo so that was nice. The same guy tattooed me who did my friend. Things started out simple enough, he drew the bumblebee on my foot and I got the feeling he was insulted "as an artist" when I didn't like the drawing he did on my foot. It didn't look like what I wanted and I told him I wanted it to have a bigger head so it looked more cartoon-like as I wanted it to be more cutesy wootsy and less realistic. He proceeded to argue with me for about 10-15 minutes about what looked right and how it needed to look on my foot and how he needed to do what he needed to do to make it look "right". Which pissed me off anyway because it's my foot and I have to see it for the rest of my life. He redrew it once more and it still looked more like a caterpillar with wings to me than a bumblebee and he asked another tattooer that was back there doing a big back piece to look and "tell her it's the same". At this point I said, "I'm not trying to argue with you but it's my f*cking foot after all." and the other tattoo artist just said if that's what she wants then make a stencil and do the tattoo she wants... My tattooer acted all put-out and threw his tattoo pen down to go make a stencil. When he came back I told him I didn't want the lines really thick as I wanted it to look more like a sketch and he got mad about that. I also told him I wanted it to be pink and he said, "I don't do pink on people" to which I replied, "Well if the girl up front would've said that when I asked before I paid, I wouldn't have gotten the tattoo." (I have pink hearts on my other foot that are over 5 years old and they are still as pink as the day I got them). He said, "With all due respect she wasn't a tattoo artist" and I said, "Well maybe you should tell her that". He eventually relented and did the pink but not before telling me it would fade and I would be back in 5 months (like I said my pink hearts are going 5 years strong right now - on my other foot). By this point he seemed really pissed off and it appeared to me that he was taking everything personally, which I didn't get because I just wanted the tattoo that was going to be on MY foot forever to look the way I wanted it to. The quick sketch he did when we walked in on paper was adorable and I loved it, so I had already said I liked his artwork... I got the feeling he was thinking he was some bigshot artist and I was insulting his ability which wasn't my intent, I simply wanted the tattoo to look how I wanted it to look because it was my foot and I had been thinking about it for about 6 months, not how some complete stranger I just met wanted it to look that would never see it again. Once he started tattooing I tried to be nice and make some small talk or break the ice but he was having none of it and was basically an a**hole the rest of the time I was there with short answers and a REALLY bad attitude. Overall it was a terrible experience and I would NEVER go here again or tell anyone else to. While I understand some placements or requests are ridiculous and you take the artist's expertise on it (and I have done so in the past) until this I've never had a tattoo artist argue with me about what I want on my skin or the colors I want and tell me what he will and will not do to people. It was ridiculous. My bumblebee is cute - but for all the trouble - it wasn't worth it. read more

They'd been open since 10 so I figured they'd be all set up and ready so I walk in and I'm greeted by the receptionist with, "Hi, can I help you?" And I'm like yeah I wanna get two piercings. And she says, "Oh our piercer isn't coming in until around 4:30". So I'm disappointed and say "oh.." and she said "yeah. Have a nice day". So I left and went to VB ink instead and it was great. Came back to this awesome place to get my septum pierced. So happy that I did because Stewart did an amazing job on my piercing. I am on my honeymoon in Virginia, and decided to start married life off right - by covering up a horrible tattoo on my back that I got when I was 18. I first went to Studio Evolve, but they were booked for a week - and snobby as hell to boot. I asked if they had any recommendations for another parlor, as I was only in town for a week. First they asked if I used google, which is a pretty dick think to say, and then they pointed me towards this shop. And I'm really glad they did! First of all, huge difference in attitude when I first walked in. The guy behind the counter was friendly and helped me out when I said I wanted a coverup, but didn't know what I actually wanted to put there. He steered me towards two books of the artists he thought would be able to take on the project, and when I voiced my concern about color quality (the awful tattoo was color and it had already faded to almost nothing in only 6 years), he recommended Jaimeson. We met, talked about what we could put there, sketched a bit, and set up an appointment a few days from then. He was cool with me emailing him ideas, and cool when I asked him to change the drawing around. The tattoo itself is awesome. The color looks absolutely stunning, and I'll be sure to update this review in a few months with how it holds up, though I'm not worried because I saw one of his tattoos on someone and the color looked incredible. The process of getting the tattoo was also great. He talked to me when I wanted to talk, and he was quiet when I wanted to be quiet, without me having to say so. I think he's pretty good at reading what people need. I sat for about 3.5 hours before I had to call it quits. I will be flying back in a few months to finish! It's unfortunate that people have had bad experiences at this place, because I can't speak more highly of it! Yes, tattoos are expensive. I go here frequently, and it is not so drastically dismissive. I feel very sad that a previous review had such an awful experience, I love these guys. Both of my calves are covered in amazing artwork from Gentleman Jim, who works at Ocean Mystique. I have been to Ocean Mystique 5 times over the last 6 months since my Artist of preference Gentleman Jim has moved there. While they could in fact use a permanent counter girl that just focused on customer service and solidifying price quotes & concepts between artists and clients - they are amazing at what they do. When you walk in, you need to go right up to the counter and tell someone why you are there, because the piercer is usually the one out front and he does not know regulars from those who may be wary or looking around. This will immediately clear up the "being treated out of place" attitude that a previous review seemed to feel she encountered. The thing about people with tattoos is, we don't care if you have tattoos :) All their books and artwork binders are hanging on the walls so you could spend hours looking for a tattoo that identifies with you. All of their artists will be very honest with you in terms of size, color, cover-up, placement - you just need to speak with them and have an open mind about what's going to be best for your tattoo. I have personally been told 'NO, that will not look its best, how about we __________' and it resulted in my favorite tattoo thus far. I strongly suggest giving them a chance. I gave this place more stars than I wanted to, based on overall service, The stars I did give were for my husband and I's artist, Mike Boone, who was AWESOME. It was my husbands first ever tattoo and my 20th-ish tattoo. So we were getting something simple. We walked in and service was already kind of "meh." The rockabilly redhead was rude; the Simpson's-Comic Book Guy's jokes sucked, he tried to charge us 10% extra for a credit card charge even though we were told there would be no fee by the front counter girl. We interacted with all of 4 people that work in the shop and one was awesome, one doesn't require comment because she was a decent human, and the two mentioned above were just nasty humans that deserve a Krampus visit. Again, this review is only a reflection of the general atmosphere of the establishment and some of its employees. My husband got a tattoo... paid $400 plus tip. Was too nice to tell the tattoo artist that it was awful. Decided that if that original artist did a terrible job completing the tattoo that he definitely didn't want him to fix it . That tattoo looks terrible... shading was incomplete , blotchy, and incredibly lacking in skill. The line work was awful. Some of the lines weren't completed and on one part of the tattoo he didn't color it AT ALL just left the ALMOST black outline. I would not recommend going to this place. The skill represented in the completed tattoo was that of a rookie who just learned to work at tattoo gun. We've been to 4 different tattoo shops and have NEVER gotten a tattoo with this many errors and or flaws. This is one of the worst shops in vb, I got a tattoo of my zodiac sign didn't even take 25 minutes for the artist to tattoo it in/on my arm, the artist was an hour of not more late to my app, and they over charge like a bitch normally I could see paying over $100 if it was a detailed piece and it took an hour to draw but it didn't and I got charged $100 more than I should've paid, I also bought a nutty bar out of their vending machine and it was 3 months expired. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I haven't gotten a piercing there their jewelry doesn't seem like the grade of jewelry I would put in my skin I would rather not have paint flakes in a fresh piercing. I asked the man at the front desk about it and he said, "First off, you will have a hard time finding anyone who will do that because it fades and no one wants a tattoo that fades. Also who wants a tattoo that won't be visible? So, it will probably cost you a couple hundred dollars to get that done." I said thanks and left. I chose this shop to get my first tattoo because it looked professional and I had visited a few times before to take a look at what the quality of art was. I personally thought I got a fair price for the tattoo I wanted. The artist who tattooed me, Just Rob, didn't allow my husband back there because of distraction, which honestly was the only thing I didnt like about this place. Rob took his time, did a great job on the outline & gave me his card to contact him if I needed a touch up or had questions. IMO, excellent customer service. He went over the dos and don'ts and let me know that heal time and what not differs because of skin type. There wasn't a giant line, the guy at the desk was ok. He did his job & didn't say much. The waiting area has drinks, water, TV and a ton of art. Honestly, you get what you pay for is true about everything you buy. Came in on Sunday to get a septum piercing. I was given an aftercare sheet with helpful information on it and then a form to sign and check over. Then I was taken into a little room with the piercer, who I heard was referred to as JB unless he goes by a different name, but regardless he was very welcoming and friendly. The piercing definitely hurt for me lol, immediately started to tear up, but I took it like a champ and the process was over before I knew it. Very quick, not really painless, but I assume it's different for everyone. They have prices for piercings written down in the little lobby area, septum was $35. Overalls I had a pleasant experience, nothing to really complain about. I'd love to come back to get a tattoo soon. read more

I made a yelp account just to post this because it has been bothering me for a few days.went here to get my ears pierced, and I would like to say that the place is clean and everyone seemed nice and so the piercing itself was done well. However, I came with a male friend to get the piercing done, and the piercer (whose name I forget) wouldn't let him come back in the room with us. I thought this was strange because I have come here before with a female friend and had no issues with more than one person during the piercing, especially given my fear of needles. I was a little put off and then more nervous, but thought it was fine. In the back room, the piercer began to make jokes about the top I was wearing, telling me that he "wasnt going to look at my boobs", and then proceeded to go on and tell me that the size of them didn't interest him. Mind you, I am 18 years old, and he was in his mid 40s. Additionally, my breasts should not have come up in conversation, since it was my ears being pierced, not my nipples. The piercings themselves were fine, but after they were done, I asked if I could tip him on my card since I had used all of my cash. He paused for a long time and then heavily implied that I had offered sex as a tip. I had backed out of the room into the hallway at this point and just tried to laugh it off, and left as quickly as I could. When I told my friend about it in the car I realized that this wasn't normal and was something that shouldn't have happened. I'm not sure if the policy on having a friend in the back changed, but I have been to this shop three times and never had a problem with having a friend with you as you get something done, and it seemed to me that this man just wanted me alone. This is the first time something like this has happened to me, and it could have been a complete misunderstanding, but I was really uncomfortable, and I don't intend to ever come back. read more

The staff themselves were very nice. They SEEMED to know what they were talking about, however. I got a nipple piercings about 2 months ago by Pony and 1) he peirced me layed down which was a red flag in the first place (I should've known better) and 2) he peirced BOTH of my areolas way too deep. Neither of the peircings were actually through or even close to my nipple. I went to another peircer who immediately saw what was wrong without me telling them anything and she took them out. I now have permanent scars around my areolas. I also got the smallest of tattoos on my ring finger by Shannon who refused to consider where I wanted it placed. She was very rude. I tried my best to be understanding of her experiences but anyone else I knew that tattooed or been tattooed agreed with me she should've done better. She tattooed my finger WAY too hard and practically all of the ink scabbed and fell off without me touching them unless moisturizing. They are now splotchy and have scarring. Im sure they have had some good experiences before, however I extremely unhappy with my service here and Shannon was extremely rude to me. And I can't get a refund. read more

I had an amazing experience, the lady that helped us was really nice, i email the store a picture of an idea of what we wanted, a sister tattoo, She made what we wanted on the computer and she tweaked it to exactly what we wanted, the price quote was amazing, the cheapest we where quoted for. I visited Ocean Mystique Ink Gallery recently to get a new tattoo on my forearm. My other tats have been from other establishments and I had never been there before so I was slightly wary at first, but those feelings were quickly dispelled. The people at the front desk were friendly, and had a tattoo artist come out to talk about what I wanted. I had brought a sketch with some script and stars around it. He advised me that the stars should be a bit bigger otherwise they wouldn't look right. He made a design inspired off my sketch and it looked wonderful.
