While interning nearby, my boss discovered this Indian restaurant tucked behind the Irish pub. There's a long sign on the side, and once you go through the double doors, you're instantly in a classy establishment. The servers were welcoming and escorted us to our tables. There is a bar and a see through window where you can watch chefs cook roti. There is no buffet option here but they do have an amazing lunch special where you choose one main curry and meat, then get two curries of the day, naan bread, and dessert for around $13! Plus you can ask for extra rice at no cost as well. My favorite is the Tikki Masala, and the you can order a full curry plate as well. I did a delivery order of the mixed grill. The tandoori chicken was not dry and tough like most places so thats a plus. The lamb though was tough. Portion size for the $28 price seemed small. There was no choice for spice level but what came was something made for Indian 101 for the American palate. I realize for many people here thats exactly what they are looking for! I've been to India several times and enjoy SPICEY myself, so overall the food seemed rather bland. Even the mint raita was weak on flavor. It's very possible if you eat in you will have a choice on the spice level. It was a cold evening in Atlanta, and I was on my way walking to Starbuck's with a friend in search of some liquid to keep me warm. All of a sudden, I smelled something wonderful and found myself outside of a restaurant called Blue India. When I commented on the sensational aroma of the food my friend suggested we go in and try it out. I became excited to taste what I hoped would be delicious food. Plus, I was all for escaping the cold. Any foodie knows you can't go to an Indian Restaurant without ordering a Samosa, so we did. I was intrigued to try their version since I have only had the fast food version at NaanStop (I know it's a shame). While it was different than what I'm use to, it was so good. Plus, the side sauces enhanced the flavor to another level. For our other appetizer, we had the Sweet, Sticky, and Spiced Calamari. As the go-to expert on Calamari (or so I think in my head because I always order it), I thought this dish was delicious. The sweet and spicy sauce made it more unique than the traditional fried calamari, and it had a kick to it! At my waiter's suggestion, I had the Lamb Korma Curry, which came with a side of rice to share for my entrée. Each bite was bursting with flavor, and I probably ate more than my share. Sophisticated midtown spot accented with cute string lighting! Amazing saag paneer- it is a must try! Garlic naan is fresh and prepared in front of you through a window to the kitchen. The samosas and tandoori chicken were great too. Aloo Gobi was not bad, but I probably wouldn't order it again after comparing it to the other dishes. Blue India is pricey, but it is a great spot for a date or special occasion with amazing service. Negatives: Happy hour specials on drinks are not worth it because the drinks are mostly ice cubes. Great upscale Indian lunch option in Midtown! Tabla definitely has competition now. I came here with a friend on a Wednesday for lunch. Food: I ordered the Lunch Thali with Chicken Tikka Masala and upgraded my naan to Za'atar naan ($2). I loved the Thali-style lunch! I got to try a nice sampling of food options and found everything delicious. The naan was well seasoned with crispy edges and soft interior. The two veggies were a lentil-based and chick pea-based dish. I particularly loved the lentils! The masala wasn't incredibly full-bodied, but it satisfied my masala cravings. I'd swap around the curry/protein next time around. The basmati rice was cooked perfectly and I loved having a sweet dessert at the end. They give you hand towels at the end of the meal, which is a pleasant touch. Atmosphere/Service: Our waitress was very attentive and able to answer all of our questions on the menu. It was pretty much empty right around noon. The interior is well decorated with nice natural light. Obviously this is a little more expensive than you would want for a quick lunch, but the experience is meant to be upscale and the price reflects that. Ordered through uber eats. The butter chicken was AMAZING!!! We were also very impressed with the biryani, though it wasn't the most fragrant I've had. My husband had the vindaloo which was so spicy he cried. He loved it. Lol. Looking forward to eating here in person after covid. In the meantime, we recommend this place to everyone. There's an easy parking garage right off 8th street...Kind of behind the restaurant. I love the decor of the restaurant. The bar area is beautiful and I loved seeing the tandoori ovens through the dinning room. The food was outstanding. My daughter and I were celebrating her last meal in Atlanta. We got samosas as an app and Chardonnay to sip (good wine glasses too). Next, I got Malai Kofta and she got Vegetable Korma. You KNOW it's good Indian food when the curry is a beautiful saffron color. Not the cheaper brownish curry. We also got garlic Naan to share. Everything was prepared perfectly. We truly enjoyed the food and even the mixed drinks, my son loves the butter chicken.

The people were friendly and I have no complaints about the service, but the food at Blue India is just . . . ok. While none of the food was especially good (butter chicken tasted bitter, fried salmon starter was meh), the papadum is truly terrible. It would be ok if they didn't bring it out already topped with puddles of watery tomatoes, which made the papadum soggy and drippy and unpleasant to eat. It would be so simple to put the tomato topping on the side and let people add it as they eat (if they want it), so that the bread would remain crispy. The interior is run down--ripped upholstery on the banquet, a dingy fringe on the window treatment. I won't go back. read more

The pricing is a bit much for the quality of food though which, again, was good but not worth what you're paying. The service could have been better. We went to Blue India for dinner. Before we ordered we asked about how our Passbook would work since this is the first time us using it there and there been a $16 limit. Apparently unlike other restaurants with limits in the passbook, they will only give you the discount if the meal is that price or below. This restaurant completely exceeded my expectations! We made reservations for Mother's Day dinner on OpenTable and were seated right away. Btw, they validate the first hour of parking in the garage attached to the restaurant. **Appetizers** -Chili Paneer - four large pieces of tandoori paneer that were SO tender and flavorful -Chicken 65 - probably my favorite app! -Crispy Bhindi Chaat - this was more bhindi (okra) fries rather than your classic "chaat" but highly addicting. -Seekh Kebob - in general I am not a huge fan of lamb but this literally melted in your mouth. I would order all of these apps again. **Mains** -Chicken Tikka Masala -Veggie Korma -Shrimp Vindaloo - they don't list shrimp on the menu as an option for vindaloo but we asked and they said yes! It was delicious! I am usually weary of ordering vindaloo because at some Indian restaurants it can be UNBEARABLY spicy. This vindaloo's spice level was just right. I would order all of these entrees again. **Breads** -Garlic naan -Bullet naan -Cheddar naan - I am always eager to try different types of naan and this one was savory and quite satisfying. I am a cheese lover though. **Desserts** -Mother's Day Cake - they gave us a free dessert which was very thoughtful -Gulab Jamun Bread Pudding - wow! I wanted this to blow my mind SO SO BAD. Close, convenient, good looking and had all the potential to do just that. But man did it fall short. I guess I could argue the only thing that's important (the main dish) is what saved my view of this place. 1) Service: when I walked in, it took about 5 minutes for someone to even notice I walked in. Only for two people to appear and greet me. After I was seated, it took almost 15 minutes for someone to ask me what I want to drink only for someone else to appear 5 minutes after that encounter to ask me what I want to drink (again). My server was definitely polite but wasn't knowledgeable at all about the menu with his answer being "I sell a lot of those" to everything I asked about. For having 5-6 people working and only 5 tables, the service was summed up in two words: confused and unorganized 2) Food: Skip the fries, it's a joke. The samosa is decent but there's better out there. Not flaky and felt like it was either microwaved or not made fresh there. I wanted to forget the apps. But let's talk about the short rib masala... THAT IS AMAZINGGGG! It gets 3.5 of the 4 stars in this review. Honestly, the only reason I would go back is for that. I was slightly disappointed by the garlic naan just because there were no soft pieces, it was all toasted and crunchy but no biggie. The masala distracted me. Let me start out with a quick advisory. Blue India is still waiting on their liquor licenses, so it is BYO Beer or Wine. They expect to have their license by the end of May 2018. They soft opened yesterday, April 16th. Upon entering the restaurant, the place is beautiful. There was no host at the door, so I went to the bar. It took a few minutes for the staff to come out, but I was greated by a friendly smile from Cheasleauen. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and had some great suggestions. Everything is a la carte, so for all the anti-carb people, you will have to pay extra for rice with your entres. I ordered the Hariali Chicken Tikka from the clay oven. It tasted amazing and was just the right portion to make me feel content, not stuffed. I has the Tutti Fruitty Cheesecake for desert and was also impressed. Not too sweet and a lot of flavor. With the end of dinner came a little green package that contained a wet towel. Cheasleauen explained that they order them from London, as the owners parents own the other Blue India in London along with several other restaurants there. Blue India is definitely worth a stop for dinner. They are not open for lunch quite yet. Just remember to pick up some wine on your way. They will supply the glasses for you. read more

This Indian restaurant is worth every penny. Their tikka masala is bomb, the only Indian restaurant I know that uses dark meat of the chicken so it's extremely juicy!! I ordered a paneer korma as well it was extremely spicy, I was a bit disappointed because I made sure to ask them to make it mild. The chicken 65 is okay, it's better to eat it in the restaurant than take out. They give generous servings which is nice whenever you take out. I also ordered a cheddar naan which was amazing. Overall it is a good quality Indian restaurant, the people there were very nice and helpful. The pricing is a bit above average but it is located in the heart of midtown. We have been waiting for this to open for quite a while since the sign went up. At first glance we were hesitant because of the prices but we can never turn down a good Indian restaurant Atmosphere: chic very nicely done with good decor , upscale and modern We received stale papad which were complimentary. The green chutney was great , the right spice level. We ordered the tandoori grill and the paneer. They did take a while to come but it was worth the wait. The portion size of the tandoori platter was mediocre for $26.00. Felt like they could have added more chicken or beef. The prawns were nice size but over cooked. The paneer dish was very flavorful , had a nice kick to it and decent quantity . We didn't see any desserts on the menu so not sure if they had any options.
