I had heard great things about the Sparrow but was a little disappointed to be honest. Called in a pick-up order on a week night, and they were pretty behind when I arrived. It was a little busy there, but I was still surprised to see it. Food 4 stars - Hot and sour soup was a bit flavorless as were the spring rolls. The Shan City Spicy Chicken was overly oily, and I think that's what disappointed me most. However, it was very crispy. Maybe I need to try other items. Seen this place was highly recommended and tried them out. Went on a Friday night about an hour and a half before closing and it was pretty empty which I admired. They had a steady flow of people in and out. The place is nicely decorated and our server was helpful. For the appetizer we tried the lemon bang bang shrimp and it was truly unlike anything I've ever tasted. The flavors worked so well with each other. For the main course we had the veggie lo mein, general tso chicken, and shan city spicy chicken. Some of the best Asian food I had. I still think about it. The drinks were and nicely presented. Came here with friends for Dragon Con and ordered some dishes from this place. Overall the food is great. I had spicy Hunan chicken and adzuki colada. You can choose the spicy level for the chicken. During this visit to the city, the restaurant happened to be within walking distance of my hotel in Midtown - The Epicurean. As recommended, I ordered the orange chicken and lo mein - BOMB!!! The chicken was cooked and sauced to perfection. Top 5 orange chicken fasho. The best part the orange chicken was a part of the lunch special. The star of the show was the Crispy Wonton Wraps! OUSTANDING flavor and texture, I could've had two orders for an entree. The wonton soup was also delicious. The red sangria was freshly made by the bartender with love, it was so good and refreshing. If I didn't have a dinner engagement later that evening I would've ordered two! It was no wait for lunch on a Monday so I didn't end up needing my reservation. The dining area was spacious and nicely designed. Bar seating is also available. New favorite Chinese spot inside of 285. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Recently tried out the Sparrow and I was super impressed. The food was all so delicious, and they have a pretty big menu, so there is something for everyone to try. The space is also beautiful, and they have a big private space upstairs for parties. We tried out their new skewers, and they were pretty tasty. They have a big selection to try out. I really liked the chicken, cabbage, and mushroom skewers. The Shan City crispy chicken was recommended by our waiter, and I really enjoyed it. It was so crispy, and the flavor was really nice. I felt like the prices were really good for the size of the food. You can definitely get two servings from one meal. I'll definitely stop by again to try out some other stuff. read more

For a chinese eatery in the Midtown area, this place was surprisingly authentic. Besides their duck which was a little lackluster, the rest of the dishes were quite spot on in terms of the flavors. The main star we agreed was their osmanthus ribs. We called a fried green bean and dumplings alongside. The service was good and area was clean. Everyone gets a choice of white rice, lo mein (which I heard is quite good) for additional 1$ and a brown rice. It's a large amount per person I think I only ate half of mine. Green bean was adequately blistered in hot oil with a good salty topping on it like a black bean base. This dish was well done- would highly recommend for those wanting a veggie with their pairing. Soup dumpling was good as was the pork dumpling. Flavors did not leave an aftertaste that some dumplings do and were adequately flavored to where sauce was definitely optional The ribs were definitely the star here- it was simmered for hours in a osmanthus braised stew that made this dish floral tasting and the meat fell off the bone. It pairs with a salad next to it which is an interesting palatal concept since I don't usually associate braised with a fresh salad next to it. Would have establishment consider pairing it with some leafy cooked greens or something so it does not feel too fusion based and too contrast in flavor/texture. We ordered the half duck. This unfortunately was a little bit of a let down. The skin was used to make this caviar topped melon nacho fusion side dish which was actually quite good. The duck itself came chopped with the buns. I think the duck was quite dry and needed more salt/flavoring. Would ask establishment to reconsider how to keep this duck more succulent and consider brining it longer for the flavor to sink into the actual meat. Otherwise, it is a solid place for dumplings and for a kick of authentic flavor without traveling too far down to buford highway or duluth. read more

Fun Chinese fusion spot in Midtown that is pretty authentic! The sparrow is in the same block as the midtown Publix and there is supposedly validated parking in that lot, but we ended up just street parking since it was after hours. The inside is super modern and there's plenty of space inside. The four of us shared a bunch of dishes and there were a few that I didn't care for and a few that I really liked! Favorites: 1. Fried eggplant - loved how crispy it was and the seasonings! 2. Crispy beef - super tender and flavorful beef! 3. Fish in spicy soup - perfect for spice lovers and I felt like they gave a good amount of fish Least favorites: 1. I did enjoy the three cups chicken, but I did not enjoy crunching into a chicken bone on my first bite, and I didn't enjoy having to remove tiny bones from the rest of the dish. The team at Sparrow managed to adjust to a large group of ours that ballooned from 15 to 40ish. The servers' communication was fantastic. Their ability to maintain their cool throughout the 3 hours we were there was really impressive. The food I received was incredible too! The plating is beautiful. I was thrilled that the rice was served both hot and not overcooked. My crispy beef was incredible. Great fry and beautiful texture inside. My boyfriend and I decided to visit this place after seeing a few positive reviews on Instagram. We were visiting Atlanta and we needed to get some lunch. We both decided on the lunch special that was $13. We got the orange chicken, which was amazing. I had the lo mein as a side and he had the fried rice. I loved my lo mein, but he said the fried rice wasn't anything special. The drinks were amazing. He had the red wine sangria, and I had a lychee martini. I really did enjoy the flavor of the martini, but it didn't have a lychee fruit in it like most of the ones I've had in the past. We did have the wonton appetizer, which was amazing. The spices mixed so well and it had the perfect crunch. 10 out of 10 recommend those. The service was really good. The food came out quickly. It was lunchtime during the week, so it wasn't crazy busy. But it did have a good crowd in there. It wasn't too loud and you were able to hold a decent conversation. We'll The Sparrow caught my eye.So I looked at their menu. I have to admit,they had me at Dan Dan noodles. If you have never had them I recommend you try them. Now I will admit,I don't like that they automatically charge you a 18% gratuity. IMO sometimes this can cause the waitress to not wanna provide top notch service. However both times I had a waitress named Bree. Both times she provided excellent service. I have had crispy beef with Dan Dan noodles on my first visit. Then just Dan Dan noodles on my second. I usually order the mixed veggie stir fry and the vegetables are fresh and crispy and the sauce is perfection. I mean to get photos every time but I'm usually just diving into the deliciousness and forget. Service here was unknowledgeable and poor. Server was clearly new and wrongly answered questions when he did not know the answers. It's totally okay to say no!! Before ordering the three cup chicken, we asked the server if the chicken had bones and he said no. Upon receiving the chicken, it very much looked like the chicken had bones and upon trying it it most DEFINITELY had bones. Even worse these were not 'whole' bones as you would imagine on a chicken leg or chicken wing, but CUT bones as if a chicken leg was cut through the bone in several sections. This was very much a hazard as there were bone splinters in a chicken dish the server said "had no bones". We ordered the XLB, bang bang shrimp, szechuan noodle soup, three cup chicken, and double cooked pork. The XLB were so lackluster and bland and had no soup. The bang bang shrimp was 80% batter and a hint of shrimp. Tasted like mayo only. The noodle soup was fair and okay compared to the rest of the meal, but instant ramen is better imo. Three cup chicken had problems as stated above. For the price, service, and what we were served, this is a major bust. All in all, major skip and would prefer Xi'an around the corner. read more

The kids enjoyed the crispy chicken with white rice. The chicken has a pretty crispy batter but still delicious. The romaine lettuce with oyster sauce was unlike any other! I really enjoy Chinese food especially Szechuan dishes so I was looking forward to seeing what this restaurant had to offer. When you walk in, the space isn't huge, but it's very clean, with a bar off to the left and tables to the right. It wasn't busy when we arrived so we were greeted and seated right away. Ordered the Dry Fried Eggplant, Hot and Sour Soup, Xi Hu Minced Beef Soup, Crispy Wonton Wraps with Shrimp, Braised Fish in Chili Oil, Spicy Hunan Beef, and a Pomegranate Martini to drink. The Dry Fried Eggplant and Hot and Sour Soup tasted as expected and were good. I'm very glad I tried the Xi Hu Minced Beef Soup as I had never had it before and it was delicious(the cilantro and egg white were a nice touch). Sadly, the Crispy Wonton Wraps with Shrimp was a complete fail. They were too oily, the filling was bland, and the wonton cups were not crispy enough. The Braised Fish in Chili Oil and the Spicy Hunan Beef were both delicious and I wouldn't hesitate to order those again. The Pomegranate Martini was just ok and could have had more alcohol in it. The service was just ok overall as well, as it felt like our service was being rushed at times and there was one instance where there was some weirdness with the manager and a mixup with our order. We got take out based on reviews and food safety ratings. We live in Atlanta. Their website said the food would be ready in 10-15 minutes, it took over 50 minutes. No explanation but after being asked, they said the kitchen got something mixed up. Another person was waiting longer than us. We ordered six items. The food was average. The vegetables shown in the kung pao and orange chicken were completely absent in our dishes. I nearly gave them two stars. The "plastic free packaging" is b.s. All of our food was in plastic, some of it melted. We won't be back. I don't know how in this market they will survive at this rate. read more
