The food has great flavor, but when I order two shrimp cocktails to go, I was shocked when I opened it at home, I saw it was not made with whole shrimp but a bunch of pieces of shrimp cut up in it. When I called to address the issue, i was informed that the shrimp cocktail to go gets chopped up shrimp versus whole shrimp ordered in the restaurant because they cannot put the shrimp on the side of the container therefore it must be chopped up in little pieces. Funny no other restaurant has to chopped up their shrimp cocktail to get it in the container. I worked in the food industry for 24 years. I have never once had to chop up a shrimp cocktail to put it in a takeout container. It was a huge disappointment.. I was looking forward to this being a nice luncheon with a family. Blue Margarita is awesome, consistently good! We come here often. We've tried many dishes (all good!) but our go-to favorite is the chicken nachos. They are loaded down with quality chunks of lean chicken, tasty white cheese, guacamole and many other toppings. This is actually an update to a previous review. We gave Blue Margarita a 2nd chance. Our mistake. Greasy, everything was so greasy. I had a fish dish that I'm sure had started to spoil. We came here on our anniversary on a somewhat quiet Sunday and were not disappointed. The portions were hefty and margaritas were strong. Our server was VERY good and attentive; did not ask us questions while we were eating, everything was ready and presented beautifully. The wife and I been wanting to go so we went last night for our 1 year anniversary. Granted, we went an hour before they closed on a Sunday so I'm cutting them some slack. The reason I wanted to go is because I heard the Mojarra Frita is pretty good. Well first they didn't have two of my beer choices then they didn't have the fish. It was frozen and wouldn't be thawed in time. They did actually offer to thaw it for me still but at this point it was 20 minutes to closing time so I denied it. I ended up getting the Caldo de Res (beef soup) which most places don't have. Caldo de pollo(chicken soup) is more common. I was pleased with the soup. Food is not authentic. They nickel and dime you on everything. They give you one fork which looks like it came from the recycle factory so thin very used and chincy. I have had better plasticware. Only one bowl of chips is free, after one bowl they charge you 1 dollar for every bowl after that. Cheese on a Mexican sandwich or anything is an extra $1.50. The super small ground beef corn taco is $4.50 for one taco!!! What!!! Of course, they don't advertise the price on the menu because they don't list Ala-carte items. The owner is very snobby. I met some friends here after work and they were enjoying mango margaritas when I arrived. They were as delicious as they looked/ sounded & I had 2! I ordered nachos which were delicious and medium was enough for my hearty appetite that day. Chips and salsa were satisfying. Atmosphere was calmer, as it was a Tuesday night, so service was so-so: my friend's alerted me to "make sure you decide what you want because it takes her a while to come back." All in all it was a good meal and evening. Lots of menu choices, decor is very nice with Mexican themed artwork, etc. They can handle larger groups, kids are welcomed and dress code is "come as you are". One time they put onions that I'm highly allergic to they say I can return it or put my name in a book and I've called weekly for a month and they have yet to rectify the situation. Decided to give this place a try this evening and all I can say is dang... I won't be back here again. It started with the poor server getting sat with two tables at the same time. Next we ordered margaritas and the first round we had were decent, nothing special so we ordered another. I couldn't even drink it because it was pure liquor and not the good stuff. Our salsa was extremely bland as was the rest of my groups food. Stopped here on our way to Detroit for a concert. Loved the feel of the restaurant and the menu was large. All of our entrees were tasty and cooked to perfection. The chips were hard and the salsa tasted like pizza sauce. There was also a small sign at our table stating if we wanted refills on chips & salsa, there was a fee. Seems odd for a Mexican restaurant. (We were given two very small bowls of chips and two bowls of salsa for a table of 4.) Thankfully our entrees were delicious and outweighed the chips/salsa nonsense! read more

We came to Blue Margarita while visiting relatives in the Detroit area over the weekend, and I have a few comments: Food quality was very good, and as my crew of Yelp cohorts can verify, I've had my share of Mexican food over the years. Although this restaurant is a chain and doesn't try to be totally authentic, I very much enjoyed the fajitas. My Cuervo 1200 margarita on the rocks was equally satisfying. Service was very good. My only complaint: The "bowls" that contained the tortilla chips couldn't have been any smaller. They were tiny, and because of that, they contained enough chips to last the average person about 1 minute. Sorry, but this is a Mexican restaurant pet-peeve of mine. Chips are cheap, and considering the over-priced drinks and food that I'm paying for, there should literally be a mountain of tortilla chips being constantly brought out to the table, in a large enough bowl that I don't have to keep asking (picture a KFC bucket of chicken...). There should basically be a 6-foot pile of tortilla chips in my booth, with an air hole near the top that's just big enough for me to breathe out of. Likewise for the salsa - I should be drowning in a river of salsa (you make it in tub-sized containers). The salsa bowls at Blue Margarita were only slightly larger than shot glasses. I just don't get it. Are you trying to cut costs? Did Trump's Mexico tariffs push the cost of tomatoes into the stratosphere? Are cilantro and onions being rationed in the Detroit area? So, if anyone is listening in Blue Margarita land, why not have a look at the chips & salsa situation? If it's annoying to me, I guarantee there are tons of others who feel the same way. Wow terrible flavors. American Mexican really does suck. We wanted a snack and thought chips n salsa let's check out this place. The bowl of free chips were the smallest ever also came with hot and mild salsa. Chips were really greasy and salsa flavorless. Ok so on to some food so I thought I'd try the Panchitos? App and I wanted to try one chili rellieno a la carte. She brought two chili's. hardly any chili flavor!!Too much food and they had a Wierd flavor. There was lots of cheese tho and a funny tasting sauce. It was GROSS. Had Bf try and he thought strange too. The little layered nacho things were ok. Bf had a taco salad and he kept getting a strange flavor.... then he saw they put green olive pieces in there??? What??? Too strange for us. Very unhappy with our meal. Never coming in here again not even for drinks. He had iced tea and it had a coffee flavor!! It was busy tho. Guess no one know what Mexican food tastes like in Michigan! I left him at the table to pay and went to the washroom. When I came back I had decided to keep it to myself how shitty it was. Thank god I did. Cause he let it rip as he paid at the register. I came in with a big group of people(about 20 of us we are all under the age of 17) and they sat us down outside during a rain storm and made us wait 45 minutes before bringing out waters! Then made us wait another 20 minutes to bring out any drinks that weren't water, such a Shirey temples and sprite. Then an hour later they finally brought out 5 plates of food, by the time they had brought out all of our food it was 2 hours after we had first arrived. Half the party had finished eating while the other half hadn't even gotten their food yet.
