Ava and Kevin! The most excellent bartenders and mixologists. It was so fun to get to talk to them. Learn their process and talk cocktails. I made an 8:30p reservation on a Sunday. I want to go at an obscure time so we don't have to deal with a crowd. We pulled into town at 7:30. It was rainy and drab, just like the Harry Potter movies! We were prepared to just walk around or hang in our car but there were loads of tables open. They offered us to sit at the bar while waiting and opted to stay at the bar once we met Ava. She was busy but engaging. She chatted when she could and we were happy to take her recommendations and hear about the cocktails, which better informed us for the next one we would choose. I stopped at two so my husband could properly imbibe and did he ever. We ordered slowly, enjoyed the elote churros first and marveled at the decor. The barstools are super comfy with a nice back in them. I was betting the stools were more comfy than the booths or two tops and we weren't interested in sitting in the middle of the room, to be sure. The basilisk breath was a home run to start. Smoky spin in an old fashioned. Exceptionally well-balanced and decadent. The smoked cocktail set the tone for the experience. My husband loved the Dark Arts drink in the tiki cup. It was refreshing and fun with a smoking cinnamon stick and pineapple tartness. The elote churros were first. Good but a little more like potato croquettes with sweet corn than churros. Still very good. Next was the house made pierogis. Delicious dough and filling topped with farm cheese, diced spiced apples and creme. Next were jacket potatoes. Chunked potatoes fried with cheese and gravy. Really good, too hot and very nearly poutine. I think my tongue is still healing. My husband had a burger with truffle fries. Burger was excellent he said but the fries he left alone. My salmon was incredible. Cooked to order at a solid medium. Crispy skin, on top of kimchi and roasted brussell sprouts. I like heat. He stayed with the tiki drink and moved to the Whirlwind of Lies when I saw you can order spicy ice (+$2) with it. Unfortunately I didn't get to try it as I don't think she heard me and go regular ice instead. Still a good drink but not a home run as I hoped. I had a lot of flavors going on and switched to water after this one. Bill was about $150 not including tip. Drove an hour for the Harry Potter Popup. Absolutely worth it. The dining hall ceiling, the Hogwarts letters everywhere, Hedwig, the Wanted posters and the House banners gave it such a cool vibe. We had REAL candles at the table. We ordered Fire Whiskey shots and they arrived in tiny glass goblets. The attention to detail is top notch - hats off to your Events person. Went for the SpongeBob theme and had a less than average experience. We are big SpongeBob fans and we're excited to go. The ambiance and decor was very well done- lots of details that made the space feel fun and had SpongeBob on TV. However, the food and drink were quite overpriced. The cocktails were tasty, but expensive and nothing mind blowing. They brought our appetizer at the same time as our entrees. The elote corn churros were very good, but small portion for the price. Krabby patty burger was okay- we have had much better burgers for the same price or less. We had to send back the Sandy's chicken sandwich because the chicken barely covered half of the bun (and we have never sent food back before). When it came back it was just slightly bigger and felt like they used the same bun. Parmesan fries were super overpowered with the flavor. They only gave us $4 off a $80 tab for the chicken being sent back. Our server was very nice, but did not check in on us and we had to stop him a few times. As a huge SpongeBob fan growing up, I was excited to try this pop-up that the restaurant put on. I knew it was going to be busy so I made sure to make reservations in advance. We were seated immediately and wowed by all of the decorations. The music playlist was spot on too. Waters were filled for us as we were seated and told our server would be with us shortly. After waiting about 10 mins, finally our server came and took our drink orders. We each got a shot and then shared a cocktail. The shot was super good, couldn't even taste the alcohol in it. The cocktail was very tasty, and not too strong either. After we put our food orders in, they were slowly brought to us one by one by different people. It was a bit upsetting as the plates were sloppily tossed onto the table as they walked away. Half of the restaurant was empty at the time of our reservation but we barely saw our server as she and many others were speed walking back and forth past our table in a hurry. We also had no cutlery or napkins available when we were seated and had to ask for them. The flatbread with feta, arugula, caramelized onions and hot honey was probably our favorite item we ordered. Everything on it came together so well and was tasty. The steak bites were cooked well but had no flavor. We were desperately trying to dip it into what little sauce it came in with the broccoli slaw just to give it some taste. The Krabby Patty was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The menu said it came with an onion gastrique but I couldn't taste it. The meat quality overall through both dishes were great, but not flavorful. We did enjoy the parmesan fries and the chocolate mousse wasn't bad either. Our empty plates kept piling up on our small table as each new dish came out and I was out of water for a majority of our time there. Iron Gate has quickly become one of our favorite spots for a date night downriver. We've always experienced delicious drinks, fantastic food, and superb service. The menu evolves with the seasons and this extends to the cocktails as well as the shareable starters, entrees, and desserts. I don't think we've ever ordered the same thing twice and we were also never let down on a single menu choice. We have some clear favorites though so if you get the chance to try these items, you'll see what I'm talking about: Elote Churros, Korean Disco Potatoes, Pierogi, a root vegetable salad I forgot the name of, and so much more... Favorite cocktails for me are the House Old Fashioned, and the Ube Thurman. My husband likes the bitter/earthy flavors and really enjoyed the Unlikely Negroni. The bar is stocked with leveled up ingredients, syrups, garnishes, and alcohol offerings. My husband & 2 of our friends drove out to MIS for their Christmas Nite Lites and decided to stop here to check out their Christmas pop up on our way back home. I would definitely recommend reservations because it is a small space, but it is absolutely worth going! Since we made a last minute decision to come here & didn't have a reservation we sat at the bar. The service was fantastic & the food was AMAZING! The tots were crispy on the outside & almost a mashed potato filling on the inside & the bacon jam & crème fraiche were the perfect pairing. My husband had the Das Burger & said it's the best burger he's had in a loooong time. I had the spicy udon noodles with egg & I am STILL thinking about it a whole week later! Our friends ordered the pierogis and steak frites & were raving about their food & drinks as well. Absolutely zero complaints & we will absolutely be back! We love Christmas pop-ups and I'd heard great things about The Iron Gate, so despite the fact that I unknowingly made reservations the night of the Lion-Green Bay game, we drove 35 minutes out to Wyandotte to check it out. When we first walked in, I was surprised at how small the place is. No wonder it's so difficult to get a table during their awesome pop-ups! The decorations are fantastic. We showed up a half hour early, but snagged a of couple seats at the bar for a round of cocktails. My husband had the Mele Kalikimaka and I splurged on the Black Magic, served in Santa's sleigh. We were having a great time and the service at the bar was excellent, so we decided to stay there when our table was ready. I asked our fabulous bartender for her recommendation for round two and absolutely loved her pick of the Exterior Illumination. It wasn't like anything I'd ever tried before and that snickerdoodle foam was heavenly! Their food was a really nice surprise. Our favorite of the night was Cousin Eddie's Disco Tots - They were these crispy on the outside and really creamy on the inside "tots" with bacon jam, pimento cheddar, pickled onion and chive creme fraise. We also shared and loved the Butternut Squash Cornbread and Dat Chicken Sammy. This was no ordinary "bar food". We really enjoyed our experience at The IronGate and will definately make the trip again. We were even home in time to catch the majority of the football game! read more

This place is great for there theme's for holidays. I have been for Halloween and Christmas and they really put their all into the decorations and what not and the food and very good. I think they need a head chef though because rhe food does not come out together though for instance the last time I was there I order a pot roast dinner and my husband ordered a salmon dinner and he got his food and could have basically finished it and I was still sitting waiting and our server may have had to many table that she couldn't handle and she didn't notice this so she was running around so much I couldn't get her attention to ask her if maybe something happened to my plate. But as I was sitting waiting it was other tables getting partial orders of their meals to. Well anyway besides that it's a great experience and yummy drinks. I worked in food industry for 10 years so I get it can get overwhelming but I believe maybe 1 more server would have help the floor out alot. read more

Went to Iron Gate last night for the Harry Potter event, and it did not disappoint! The themed decor was so fun, creating a cozy and magical setting. The service was great as well. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was friendly, helpful, and attentive, allowing me to switch out my drink for something more to my liking. Our favorite cocktails were the Whining Myrtle and the Life Eater. The elote churros were amazing! Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and such good flavor. Mains ordered were the spicy udon noodles and the chicken Sammy, both very tasty. Finished the night off with the Cauldron Cake - chocolatey, crunchy from the toffee, and a perfect end to our meal. Went for the Harry Potter pop up event so the review is based off of the experience that I received during that pop up. Ambiance: The decorations were well done and they encompassed the atmosphere of the IP. Definitely was impressed with the decorations and the way the bathroom was also decorated. Food: I ordered the steak bites, and was sadly disappointed. My food came out cold, and the portion sizes were small. The Butterbeer was sad, and did not really taste that great. Price was absolutely sky high for the portion sizes that were dispersed. My friend ordered the churros and pierogi for the table, and both orders were about $14-17 each and each order came with 4 miniature churros and 4 mini pierogis. Service: The service was unfortunately poor during my first experience at Iron Gate Bar. My fiancée has some dietary restrictions and asked the waitress to ask the kitchen to see if they could accommodate and the waitress left to ask. Then our entire table received our food and the waitress said she had forgotten to ask and now would go back to ask again. We did not see her again, until it was time to cash out. Based solely on this experience, I will most likely not visit again during a pop up event. read more

I met my BFF here for our annual Christmas dinner. We were excited to try this new establishment after hearing rave reviews. It's located right off Biddle along the main strip in downtown Wyandotte. I made reservations and I'm happy I did because it was very busy. We were warmly greeted by our hostess and seated in a cozy booth. She then promptly told us that we had an hour and a half time limit due to all the reservations that they had. We didn't appreciate that, but proceeded to look over the menus. We ordered the pow pow shrimp, crispy potatoes and pierogis to share. We also each ordered a drink from their cool drink menu and they were both really good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the names. The food is delicious! The atmosphere is very welcoming and cozy. They did a great job with the Christmas decor. We will definitely return! read more

I was really looking forward to eating here. The mob theme was intriguing, the menu seemed good, and it was so hard to get reservations, I figured it had to be good. Boy, was I wrong. We arrived early for our reservations by about 20 minutes and were immediately seated because the place was virtually empty. Not a good sign when it showed all tables unavailable and first one we could get was at 5 pm that day. Thought that was weird. Our server had a belly shirt on as if we were at Twin Peaks. I got some drink with coffee ice cream and liquor, but it came in a mini cup for a toddler or possibly from a child's tea set, and no, it wasn't an espresso cup...it was smaller than that even. My husband asked for one large ice cube and received a glass full of ice cubes with his bourbon as if she didn't hear him at all. He ordered the pierogi dinner with kielbasa, and I kid you not, it came on a half empty plate. The food literally covered only half the plate. The other half of the plate was completely void of any food. You had to pay extra for the kielbasa and it was sliced up in the corner of the plate and was only one sliced kielbasa--that's it. I ordered ziti and the sauce I swear was Chef-boy-ar-Dee. If it wasn't it had to be out of a can from Gordon's Food Service. It was god-awful and there was a half inch thick of cheese for no apparent reason. Basically, I got canned pasta that was nuked in a microwave and not even warm, so it must have been sitting out for a while. The food was tepid, not anywhere near hot or warm. And to make matters worse, some kid came from the back, gave my husband his meal, and I didn't get my meal at the same time. So, my husband didn't want to eat before I got my meal, so he sat there waiting for my meal to be brought while his got colder than it already was. The kid, and I say kid because he wasn't older than 17 or 18, brought his meal, he didn't even say to me that mine would be coming or anything. He just walked away. Our waitress didn't even say anything. So, about six minutes later, she brought my meal. The waitress came back to the table three times at the most, and we had to call her over to get the check. I can't even begin to say how overrated this place is--their social media people do a great job of making this place look far better than it is. I can't believe it has been open as long as it has been. There was literally one other couple at a table and three drunk women at the bar the entire time we were in there. This place is pretty freaking cool. Decor is fancy. They do have the instagrammable signs and interesting wallpaper. Drink menu is fancy. Food menu is small but has a variety. I got a burger with a salad. The burger was delicious with pickles and a special sauce. To be honest, I am super glad I got the salad it was the best part of the meal. It's their rocket green salad. Had a tangy dressing not iceberg lettuce and had some sprinkle of crumbled cheese. Really good. The vodka drink was fantastic. Wasn't overly sweet. Carrot and ginger blend was good. I tried some of their cherries and it was luxardo adjacent but called filthy black cherries. Will come again. Friendly staff and impressive decor with tasty upscale food and drinks. read more

We went here on a Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation but were able to grab seats at the bar, next to an infant and its parents. The bar had a tiki theme and the bartenders were knowledgable and able to help me find drinks that weren't super sweet (Quetzal was my favorite of the two I tried). They also have a non-alcoholic drink menu; I had a few drinks from that, too, and they were good and only $6. We ordered 7 appetizers for our group and everything we ordered we enjoyed -- especially the goat cheese flatbread and the elote churros. The truffle fries probably would've been my favorite but we just received a batch that wasn't fresh (they were cold), but they were perfectly seasoned. The chicken meatballs were basic but good, but came with 3 very small meatballs and were also cold; they were one of the only protein-forward/lighter options on the menu. It would be great if they also had a deviled egg option that didn't have lobster in it Overall, it was decent atmosphere and parking was easy. From what I understand, this kind of cocktail-forward bar is pretty unique for the area, so it's popular. You'll definitely want to make a reservation if you want a table on a weekend. read more

Disclaimers we went on tiki Christmas night. So there was a lot of music and a lot of Christmas lights. It seems interesting but a bit off. Plenty of seating and the service staff was very attentive. We didn't eat. They had lots of drink options and seasonal drink menus. They also had a 5 course food and potentially drink pairing. The only think I didn't care for was the pricing didn't seem to fit the ambiance. For a very well lit venue with borderline loud Christmas and tiki music, the beer bottles were like 4-7 and mixed drinks 13-15. Apps 12-15 and plates 15-25ish. I estimated the prices but I'd say $$$ prices, 5 star service and an ambiance somewhere in between. read more

I recently had the misfortune of dining at Iron Gate for their Harry Potter-themed event, and despite the incredible theme, the experience was a complete failure from a customer service perspective. We arrived promptly for our reservation, only to be told that our table was still occupied. Anyone who has been to pop up themes know tables should be advised ahead of time on time limits. When we asked how long the wait would be, the hostess mentioned 10-15 minutes, but this turned into a 50-minute delayed ordeal. Despite an empty bar, we were told we couldn't sit there and had to wait outside in the cold Michigan autumn night--because of their miscalculation. We had driven over 30 minutes for the event, so leaving wasn't an option. During our wait, we saw not one but two large groups without reservations being seated before us. This was a blatant disregard for customers who had planned ahead. When we addressed it with the manager, they blamed it on a "miscommunication" with a hostess who had already left, which was an unacceptable excuse for such poor management. The so-called effort to make it up to us was laughable. The manager asked if we had any allergies, only for us to be served the cheapest appetizer--topped with mushrooms, which the birthday girl was allergic to! And yes, they were advised of the allergy. It was so bad that it felt almost comical and we didn't feel uncomfortable after being served food we were allergic to. We had to advocate for ourselves when we the ones paying and the service was slow despite being served an hour after. We all had work in the morning. From a customer's perspective, this experience was completely unprofessional and unwelcoming despite their efforts to correct it. I had been warned about Wyandotte by friends of color, and now I see why. It's a shame that despite the excellent Harry Potter theme, the service was a glaring failure. This experience will stick with me, and not in a good way. Unfortunately not all spaces are welcoming. read more

The sweet, salty and succulent treat was an amazing combination. Someone knew what they were doing there. The cocktails were perfectly prepared, and the atmosphere was a perfect way to end the evening. We both would recommend this place and will be back next time we come down to Wayndotte! Iron Gate definitely has something good going on. I don't frequent this part of the metro area often but this was a really nice spot! It's sort of a tapas neighborhood bar spot but it's definitely not bar food. Beef Wellington was the special for the night but I tried the dumplings (pork and shrimp), the bang bang shrimp, and the burger. My companion had the Delmonico steak frites. All of the food items were very well executed. We tried the polar vortex drink which was good and I had a very well made old fashioned. The steak frites was the only item that I'd say was super expensive. Everything else was well priced. If you're in the Wyandotte area, this is definitely a visit for good food and drinks at the right prices. Wyandotte is lucky to have this place! read more
