I've taken a few classes here and if you've ever been interested in stained glass or fusing (or if you're skilled already and need to buy glass/supplies) this is the place to go! I tried a one time class (3 hours) in the winter and made a snowflake and it made me want to try more classes out and learn how to do bigger pieces- and they have a lot of class variety and dates. I did their 6 week copper foil class and then a 4 week stained lead class. Kris and Lisa are both amazing instructors! I learned so much utilizing the two different techniques, and they're so helpful and knowledgable- always making themselves available to answer any questions you have. You can also use the workshop space outside of class time if you signed up for the 4 or 6 week classes (call ahead and make sure no other classes are going on). I haven't been able to do any fusing classes yet but I hear from everyone who has taken any that they're so fun. They also do repairs and sell stained glass pieces inside- They got it all! read more

Old business new spacious location offering stain glass repairs and classes. I had a large stain glass into which a contractors ladder fell. I had the major breaks repaired after I did amateur gluing. The job was well done but I did thing there would be re-gluing in a less obtrusive way where I "stabilized it". But overall I am satisfied and would go here again and when I have time I hope I will take classes! read more

Lemme just say, this place is pure magic! I signed myself and a friend up for a 3 hour beginners 'make & take' class with NO experience or know how on what I'd signed us up for. It was also a surprise gift for her birthday-so she was definitely flying blind. *I made sure she brought some closed toe boots* We got to choose pre-cut glass shapes to create stained glass pumpkins. They had more colors than just orange and green, so that was cool! There were 7 in our class, of mixed experiences. Be prepared to use every minute of the class, it sucks you in!! Kris and George were explanatory and patient, they are excellent teachers sharing their glass working experiences as we foiled and sawdered along. My pal and I are making this an annual tradition. If, we can wait that long! Much love to the folks at Bluemoon, it's stellar stuff! *inserts more cheese* There wasn't a bad pumkin in the patch! read more

I have two pieces of stained glass that I made over 40 years ago. I found Blue Moon Glassworks on Yelp. I called and asked if they could do some minor repair work on these two pieces. No problem was the reply. The shop is off 43rd in a beautiful part of old Austin. I loved the area and right by Tiny Grocer. Used to be my old hood back in the days. The shop was spectacular inside. So many pieces of stained glass. I was in awe. They do classes there as well. The young lady I spoke to on the phone was extremely responsive and gave suggestions on the repairs. Estimate was given and accepted. I hung around for a bit looking at all the amazing work and thinking I should start back up with classes, just too bad I know live in Pflugerville. I picked up the finished pieces two days later. I couldn't be happier. Stained glass was an amazing hobby for me. If I was ever to decide to take it up again Blue Moon Glassworks would be my choi read more

We had a great time at their ornament-making class. The teacher gave very clear instruction and was able to manage 8 people at once, which took skill. I was worried at first that the fire would be dangerous or uncomfortable to work with, but by my second ornament I was totally at ease. We got to make 10 each, and color them with any combination of colored glass that we wanted! Would love to come back with friends or family. read more

Saved us! We sought multiple glass repair companies in and around Austin to replace the one irregular shaped decorative glass pane on our front door. Our only option was to replace the two larger panes which wouldn't look as nice. Or replace the entire door with installation. Both more costly. Used up all our good luck for the week when we were referred to Blue Moon Glassworks. They quickly responded via email. And they had a match! AND they repaired it same week! When does that ever happen? Thank you! read more

I was in Austin for a few days with some friends, and decided last minute that we wanted to do the ornament class. We called and got added and showed up the next day. Easy peasy. The shop is very cute, and full of glass crafting supplies. Jim checked us in, and showed us all the basics. We each took a turn with him too make our first one before we went on our own to make our ornaments. We each made 10 in varying sizes. Put them in the kiln to cool and picked up our ornaments the next morning. Great intro class for anyone who is interested in doing glass crafts but it's intimidated by the furnace glass blowing. Highly recommend! I think they also do other types of crafting classes too! read more

Love, love, love this place! Such friendly & helpful staff - they take the time to guide you with professional advice and don't make you feel like a bother at all. Have taken several classes and not only learned a lot, but had fun! Stained glass and glass fusing is now my newest hobby! read more

We took a glass blowing class to make some ornaments right before Christmas, and it was a blast! There were 6 students total which worked out perfectly around the table, Jim was our instructor. He first showed us step by step how it worked, then worked with each one of us to guide us through making one ornament, before just setting us loose to make whatever we wanted. Even when he's working with other students, he somehow is able to catch us doing the wrong thing and correct us before things go really wrong. It's perfectly safe by the way, and when I say "things go really wrong" it only means that the ornament becomes really deformed. We each ended up with 10 ornaments (there are 3 different shapes/techniques to choose from), which seems like a lot, but honestly it takes a few tries to really get the hang of it. Super fun class and I highly recommend it! read more

Blue Moon has been in our neighborhood for several years and I'm just now writing a review. There is a history of excellent customer service and technical expertise. I am not creative so I haven't taken a class. We break stuff. If it is glass, then I go to Blue Moon Glassworks. The latest are these ceiling fan ornaments which have been in our family for years They have special meaning to us in addition to being beautiful on the outside porch. If they break, Jim and the team make a repair, and there they are again. Adding beauty to our porch. They have repaired a glass mosaic piece of art, stemware, a glass leaf blade, a glass pendant... etc. Opps, I just heard a glass break. Got to run.... read more

I almost can't describe how happy this place makes me. Jim (the owner) worked tirelessly to help me bring a custom frame to life. He was kind, genuine and communicative and the process was so creative, collaborative and fun. He found pieces of material I needed by sourcing from his vast network of creators throughout the city. A) I'm so thankful he was willing to do this for me b) it makes me so unbelievably happy to see this level of creative collaboration and networking in this city. I just moved here and I genuinely took it as a sign that this is the sort of place I'll be happy. Finally, my final CUSTOM PIECE was 123.00. I almost fell over when he told me the price. So reasonable and honest. AND I told him I was scared of hanging it on my annoying plaster walls and he got me specials nails for it even followed up to make sure we made it home safely . Needless to say I am a lifelong customer in my new city and VERY much looking forward to learning how to work with stained glass during one of their classes here soon! read more

Have you ever entered the home of a close relative or friend that you haven't seen in awhile; and instantly feel welcomed and kindness? Well, that's the feeling you get when you walk into Blue Moon Glassworks! I had been searching around town to buy some glass and have it cut and beveled. I had been to a couple of glass and window companies and got the "corporate" treatment; not bad treatment but just all business and stiff. After I was unable to find a solution for my project, I decided to check out Blue Moon from a quick search. I walked into the store and was immediately greeted by very warm and genuine people. They took the time to find out what it was I needed and guided me to the best solution. I strongly urge anyone who is looking to learn about glassworks or are in need of glass related items, to check this jewel of a store out! The store was clean, bright, and colorful with a wide selection of glass related products and learning materials. A real community based store with a warm atmosphere and knowledgeable staff! I make jewelry, and several years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to make glass beads so I could use them in my jewelry. I took a class at Blue Moon, and that started my love affair with glass, and my adoration of Blue Moon! Helpful staff, tons of great ideas, lots of classes on lots of different techniques, gorgeous examples of work to drool over, great unique gifts, and tons of supplies. I've seen people walk in over and over and say "I don't know how to do this, but I want something like this..." and Jim finds a way to make art come to life for these folks. As with many during quarantine I picked up new hobbies and stained glass was no exception. I was very excited to see that we had a specialty shop here in Austin! Location is easily accessible and has good parking right out front. The shop is nicely organized and clean. The staff woman who assisted me was exceptional! I explained my situation and she took her time to explain everything and walk me through all the supplies for a starter kit. She answered all my questions and made me feel like a valued customer. Prices for tools are comparable to market value- so if you're going to stock up I suggest doing so here! I spoke with Jim, the owner, who was just as kind and amicable as his staff. Glass here is sold by the pound; they also have a variety of bezels, buttons and scrap glass available. I felt confident in dropping a pretty penny on supplies and supporting a local business. Please don't let this lovely gem of a shop be lost to the COVID-19 storm! Shop local and keep Austin weird! read more

My husband received an extraordinary and expensive collection of Austrian cordial glasses with each bowl a different shape and all the stems with two different colors. Wow! I was walking from a B&B to a restaurant and had to go inside when I passed Blue Moon. It's where you go to learn to do glasswork of all kinds, but they had a small but fabulous selection of glass beads, jewelry, and objects d'art on consignment from glass artists all over the country. I bought one piece, then came back that afternoon to buy two more because I couldn't get them out of my head. The owners are exceptionally nice and the quality of pieces they have is excellent.
