If you've never been to a Daiso, take a trip inside to understand the hype. They're all pretty much the same everywhere. This one is on the smaller side, I just really like that this one is in Austin and not a whole plane ride away. So, Daisos are basically little Japanese versions of a Dollar General with a smaller food section. Lots of cute little gadgets, decor, stationary, tchotchkes, and of course snacks. Service is fast and friendly, can't ask for much else. Everything is low priced and most of the items are pretty useful. Note: nearly everything is priced in yen and items without a price on them are less than two dollars. There are little signs all over showing you the conversion for the listed price, so no worries there. We ended up purchasing snacks and I snagged myself a little roll of blueberry washi tape. I know I didn't need to buy it, but it called to me from the basket of stationery. I have already tried it out, and it's gorgeous. read more

This is Japanese dollar store. We saw this dollar store located at north side of Austin. The plaza has a lot of Asian stores which make purchases and dining very convenient in one location. My first contact with Daiso is at Taiwan. I am glad that they are in United States. I love the cute items in the store. Many items is well make with a word cute. My wife love this store and has a big shopping. Their price is actually in Japanese yen. They do have a conversion chart to US dollar. I like their see through umbrella. Love it. read more

Needed to kill some time while waiting for my order to be ready from the nearby chicken restaurant. I decided I'd go see if they had a dumpling steamer. Long story short, they didn't. Not the type I was looking for anyway. They had a metal retractable one though. I didn't' get it but I did browse and find a lot of things I found incredibly interesting. Cool cooking gadgets, beautiful dinner ware, cutesy plushes and knick knacks...you name it, they have it. Even snacks! The store was well organized which I loved. And store employees were busy restocking. Nothing seems over priced. Some prices were in yen (I believe) but there is clear signage that gives you the conversion. They even make announcements about pricing over the PA system. This is definitely a place I'd like to come back to and spend a lot more time than I was allowed this visit. Daiso is the store you walk into and realize there are a lot of useful things here that I need and that I didn't know I needed it until I saw it here. I guess the Japanese version of the Dollar Store but I would say better overall quality products. And the lowest price item is $1.75 and believe me - you can find a lot of nice quality useful items for $1.75 here. I skip the snacks now because most of them are meh and even though they seem enticing they are just meh. I dig the kitchen stuff and some automotive and some electronics stuff. Lots of cool stationary and the toy selection is meh. Lots of cool containers here too. Found some nice small glass jars holds 4oz and can get you through TSA no worries. But the one thing that bugs me here is that nothing is returnable - even if it breaks - and some things do break, unfortunately. Bought a mesh laundry linen bag for $1.75 and I use it to put my swimming stuff and take it with me to the pool when I swim laps. Holds my goggles, trunks, deodorant, etc. Well in 2 weeks it started to rip and is almost useless now - but no returns. If it breaks at the store or walking out of the store she said they would take it back but once you get home - it's all yours, baby. Kinda like let's say you adopted a child, got them home, then in a week they started acting out and not really what you expected, and you're having second thoughts and wondering what the heck did you sign up for- but you can't necessarily take them back and return them ..... I mean can you? I guess that would be tough. I bring that up instead of pets because you hear people return adopted pets all the time. That's why 4-stars instead of 5 here. Sorry for taking you down that rabbit hole but - just an FYI - you've been forewarned - you buy, you keep, no returns no matter what. Came here for the first time. I was happy to see a Daiso here since we move to Texas. Buuuut, a bit a disappointing because this place was super small and congested. Selections weren't as much as I was used to. It was pretty busy in the store so it made it harder to move around since the aisle was so small. The staff are friendly and fast. Parking lot is huge and shared with other establishments. read more

I was so happy to find a Daiso in Texas! I would have driven to Houston but there is one in Austin. I love this store. I bought up so much when I went to one in Orange County CA. I was running out of their awesome nose strips and was going to order them online but checked their store finder first. It was an easy Sunday drive there from San Antonio. Plus, there are authentic Asian restaurants in the same shopping strip. We had a great time. The fun part of this store is discovering the cool inventions they have for your every day home needs. Great gadgets for the kitchen, tons of organization tools and bins, and almost everything is $1.50! Be careful though. I still spent $80! read more

I first learned about Daiso a few years ago when my best friend took me to one of the stores in Houston to stock up on travel essentials. I told my parents about the Austin location and insisted that we go so they could get travel essentials for their big trip to Europe and I could get a few things for my trip to Panamá. Daiso carries all sort of goods and products and the quality of the items are actually pretty decent considering it's a dollar store. We found all sorts of things like travel size cases, wash cloths, reusable bags, plastic baggies etc. They have so many items that it's easy to get sidetracked. The prices are cheap so it's easy to go overboard, but be careful because all sales are final. This store is smaller than the Houston stores and the aisles are kind of tight. I was constantly bumping into things with my purse because there's not much space. It didn't help that there were quite a few people carrying shopping baskets. The other downside is that the shopping center is extremely crowded and busy. We were navigating our way through the H Mart Parking lot and it felt like an eternity to get across the lot to the store. The store is on the other side of the shopping center so if you can take a side entrance away from the grocery store, it should save you some time. read more

I love coming into Daiso. I was so glad they have one in town in Austin. I'm use to seeing a Daiso all over California and I rely on buying their make up remover wipes the most. They are large and the formula is pretty gentle for my skin. That's why I regularly buy them. Coming here, it's located in an Asian shopping center with other restaurants, a grocery store, bookstore and boba. Feels like California and I really miss it. Living in Killeen Texas which is 50 to 60 mins away is so inconvenient. Oh well. It's an excuse to drive into town. read more

The layout of Daiso reminds me of dollar stores, but the items are up to Japanese kawaii standards. I don't think anything is excessively expensive either. There is a little bit of everything in this store, including kitchen supplies, beauty items, storage, dehumidifiers, and snacks. They essentially have an extensive selection of everyday necessities. The aisles are labeled with signs above to help you find anything you may need in different categories. There are also Japanese yen to American dollar conversion charts scattered throughout the store and posted on the walls. I'm not sure if all items are priced with Japanese yen labels, but the things I picked up to check all were priced in yen. Since this store is located in a plaza with other Asian restaurants and stores, it is very convenient to grab any "Asian" supplies here that you may not necessarily easily find elsewhere. read more

I love going to daiso for the tea and coffee. The boss coffees are always good whether the latte or black. I just keep a few in me fridge. As for tea i get the cold brew tea very bitter and reminds me of japan. I also love the japanese snacks too. Yuup read more

It's wonderful that our north-central Asian shopping center at Lamar & Airport now offers Daiso just down the way from Ranch 99. This "Japanese Dollar Store" opens at 10am and is observing great pandemic risk reduction strategies, so you may need to wait in a line to get in. No worries, the online site has a huge selection you can peruse while you wait. Think home furnishings & organization, kitchen tools, bento accessories, paper goods, awesome snacks, toys & gifts, party supplies, electronics accessories, beauty & skincare, and holiday decor. At the grand opening in Fall 2020, there are already tons of Christmas-themed items and a surprisingly large selection of Disney character-themed objects. Cold weather goods like fleece scarves & gloves for less than $5 each! Of course, all things Kawaii are also available. We just transitioned to "no shoes in the house" this year, so I'll be stocking up on an assortment of $2 slippers for the family. read more

They don't take AMEX, and Discover has to be a physical copy. Be prepared for a $70-80 spree and that's trying to be practical. The bento box selection was a bit thin, not much for children. The store employees were not very welcoming. More like focused on the "millenial or gen-z daze"..First time visiting (the ole location for Family Dollar) in this new store setup, yet as appealing it may have been. There were very limited choices to see. Knowing the store was Japanese-inspired {along with prices being completely confusing to understand; even using my phone scan was with no benefit}. I like that Austin has had more diversity and interests for all. Being in the U.S.; would have been a more pleasant experience to explore without having to fly to another country (less costly!). The most enjoyable experience; was the music being played while I ventured throughout the maze of discount items. It was a bit disconcerting that the majority of inventory was made in China....I hoped to actually see Japanese made items (unless they manufacture only in China; not bad, yet more variety). I was well surprised by the overall costs of what minimal items of interest I found, yet checking out was quite discontent on how not even a "thank you for shopping with us today" from any employee {or eye contact}. Nowadays many of the younger personnel has been quite "dry or annoyed by customers" when shopping in their stores. Also, the general public does not always welcome to have so much "Halloween rhetoric" {not a holiday--just a choice celebration for fewer than most} to decorate their doors. Always been one of my favorite "dollar" stores! In Japan and in the states - doesn't matter. Many items change frequently or are sold quick while others are kind of mainstays or staples. How many house slippers can one get? Challenge yourself with Daiso. The only drawback to this location is the parking. For a moment in time this shopping center was started to fade out pretty bad. Then it made a huge comeback and although I'm positively happy about it, parking can be a you know what. And if you have a sedan or SUV don't assume all the spaces are created equal. My PIC and I made that mistake a couple of times and found out that if one of the cars next to us had their window open, we could probably reach inside. That's how close we were. I digress. The cashiers are friendly and the prices and merch keep me coming back. read more

This was a cute and nice store. Basically a Japanese dollar general. I bought some pens and a pair of sunglasses. However, the sunglasses turned out to be for kids and then pens were oil ballpoints and not the watery dark ink that I was looking for. Overall I would like to go again, but the quality of the products of this store is a bit low. read more

This review might be biased only because I've been shopping at Daiso when I was residing in California, but as far as selection. There isn't a wide range of products like I was expecting. I like going here for stationary, but their card selection and stationary lack in variety. It could be because this Daiso location is relatively new, but it's also not had big as the typical Daiso stores. I'll give this place another try for next time. This Daiso is small compared to other locations but I cannot complain because it is the ONLY location here in Austin! I am just so excited for a Daiso here. The items are inexpensive of course so don't expect superb quality. I mainly purchase the decor items or plant pots when I have a project going on. Seasonal decorations and office items are so nice to have when you are decorating your cubicle at work or your home office! My kids do love the little toys and stickers! I was so excited when I found out the would be opening a Daiso in Austin and of course I had to go visit! Everything is $1.50 unless otherwise noted and I love all the stuff they sell. Even though it's cheap, the items just don't seem as cheap. The store is pretty big with a good amount of inventory. A lot of people were there so you may have to wait in line but I am so happy with all the items in the store and customer service is great as well. I will be coming frequently!! read more

I absolutely love this "Japanese dollar store"! It's so well organized (with signs indicating where everything is as well as currency conversion charts), incredibly clean, and everything is so cute and tasteful while being useful. There is literally a little bit of everything sold here, and it's difficult to walk out empty handed even if you intended to just window shop. Due to this darn pandemic, I had not realized that Daiso had opened a store in the Austin area. I have been to this shopping center a few times before to shop at the Ranch 99 and Kinokuniya. I was surprised and pleased to learn that Daiso has opened a store in October 2020. I made my first visit to the store and was pleased at how large it was and what a wide variety of products were offered. I had lived on the West Coast for many years and always loved to visit a local Daiso store. Since moving back to Texas, I have been to the Daiso stores in Dallas a few times, but that's a long way to go to visit a "dollar store". Love the quality of products and reasonable prices for the items sold. Look forward to returning very soon! It appears the store was still suffering from the February "arctic blast" since it's shelves in the "food" area was decimated and virtually empty.
