Went for the first time today. Been to a handful of salons up and down Rt. 25. I just need a trim and nothing really special, I'm a guy, so not looking for color lol. My gel polish chipped the next day and I had left for a trip. I had to get another manicure when I arrived to my vacation location. I got groupon for a massage from this place as I'm new to the area so before I commit to something, I like to try it out.... Home of the Required 15% Tip. Walked into this nail salon without first reviewing Yelp. We are from San Diego but in the area visiting. The nail prices are quite elevated back home so I was surprised to pay such a high price for a relatively basic service. A full acrylic set with gel polish will set you back $70. Unlike back home, my coffin-shaped nails are very nice. I've never been able to have a uniformed coffin set so I'm very satisfied with that. On four nails I opted for just the tips to be colored with the gel polish. The majority of the nail is clear and is full of little bubbles. Definitely not the quality you'd expect for a $70 set. My husband walked in ahead of me to ensure we would be able to get a full set (me) and a basic pedicure (him). When I walked in Kevin says nails for me and pedicure for him would be $70. I assumed that was the total for both services as most people would. However, my nails alone were $70. My husband was satisfied with his pedicure but wish he didn't spend it getting hounded to upgrade his service. The entire time my husband and I were there the salon received a plethora of scammy calls. The owner Kevin was under the impression that they had been hacked. He was worried about customer security regarding credit card payments. With that being said my husband and I were not comfortable paying with a debit card. Thankfully we had exact cash to pay for our two services. ($103 for a full set + pedicure). We typically tip 20% on any service we get however, we only had exact cash and we were not willing to swipe our card since their system had been compromised. My husband paid as I was finishing up. When my nails were complete I got up to walk out and was stopped by Kevin. He said we needed to pay a 15% tip. I don't know about you but I've never known a tip to be a requirement. He insisted we needed to pay a mandatory 15% tip but failed to explain what service required a mandatory tip. Eventually, he said forget it and shooed us away. Little did Kevin know we were running to grab some cash to bring it back. However, that exchange was in such bad taste we left and did not return. Oh yeah... and an ant bit me while I was getting my nails done. It ran right across my arm while Kevin was working on my right hand. I've come here many times and had excellent service, but lately, it's been alright... I walked in today asking if they had availability for a full acrylic set with some designs. The owner Kevin is great, never had a problem with him and still don't. But, the lady who worked on my nails was very rough, cutting the tips of my fingers. She also rushed the entire process, over-gluing each one. The design I gave was changed to what she thought looked best, not what I was paying for. She decided to put clear designs on clear nails, which you cannot see at all and is a not what I asked for. In the end, they charged me $95, which seems absurd because I've never paid over $60. I've witnessed Kevin's frustration with customers over the years but have never been on the receiving end until today. I called around 10:30 in the morning for a UV gel fill. Today a 2-star rating...I've been going to this nail salon since it opened many years ago and the owner had done my nails for several years before that Through the years I can count several instances of being treated rudely and most recently I was repeatedly insulted when I asked for my nails to be fixed. I had an 11:30 appointment. Granted I was 10-15 min late, but I called and was told it was still okay to come. No kidding I wasn't seated more than 15 min when someone came and I was pawned off to a new guy. While he was good with the gel, he needed a lot more practice polishing...every nail has an unpainted spot on one or both sides! When I asked to have them fixed, Kevin said "we have no time for fixing" and "you've been here long enough". Yes he actually said that to me. The girl who was sitting next to me raised her eyebrows in dismay! Maybe someone can tell me how it's my fault his nail technician took almost 3 hours to do a gel fill with design on my ring finger that doesn't look like nothing the picture I gave him to copy. In anticipation of an upcoming trip to Vegas, I asked for an Ace of Spades to be painted on my ring finger...see pic. It looks strange but again, "no time for design". But in both cases, very happy to take my money though! I've had enough mis-treatment...on to the next shop...they're certainly not the only nail shop in town. Kevin and his team always provide personal and professional service. The powder manicure lasts 3 weeks at minimum and do not look thick and fake. The natural and long lasting look allows me to continue to work hard with my hands at the gym, while maintaining a professional look for work. The salon is kept clean and the products are maintained with new colors based on trend as well as seasonal looks and personal suggestions are always welcome. They had no problem fitting me in when I was paying money, but when I went back the day after spending $45 for a manicure just the day before, and needed a repair on 2 chips in my fresh manicure, suddenly they didn't have time. I was a loyal customer for more than 2 years, religiously going every 2 weeks and spending at least $50 each visit. I always tipped the nail techs very well, and I don't feel I was given the same loyalty in return. Will NOT redeem your Groupon! I purchased a Groupon for this business for a pedicure and back massage as well as a Thai massage for another day. I made an appointment as per the Groupon page requested. When I sat with the nail technician and he pulled out a menu I told him I had the Groupon for pedicure and 10 minute back massage. He said Ok. I was in the massage chair and got the pedicure done - he took out a timer and showed me 10:00 on the clock and massaged my legs. I thought it was weird but thought ten mins was ten mins. When I went up to pay I told the manager I had a Groupon. He said,'oh no the service you got is not the Groupon, it's for a specific thing, a specific person, etc.' I told him that I had told the nail tech I had a Groupon. Hi I have lived in town for 20 years. I am not one to go and get manicures all the time (I just don't pay that much attention to my nails) every time I have gone in to Kevin for a manicure, his location is ultra clean and they are super on top of sanitizing, the service is excellent, the nail ladies are pleasant and I always have a nice relaxing experience. I always enjoy the back massage as well since I never pamper myself that way either. I have nails that grow like weeds, so I usually cut them at home and don't really get a proper manicure. When I do decide to pop into get a mani or mani/pedi - I go to Blue Nail Spa. It is close to my shop (I own The Persnickety Bride) and I relax and get just a simple manicure or if I have more time a mani/ pedi. I tell the girls not to cut my cuticles and they do what I ask. We are all going through a tough time with covid and yes companies have had to up their price a bit. I don't get all the fancy UV and Acrylic stuff, so for the work I get done , they do a terrific job. Kevin is a very nice owner and always is trying to accommodate his clients. If you are a new client - I would call them and find out their pricing of everything if that is an important factor in getting their services - but if you are going in for a simple lovely mani or mani/pedi - I highly recommend them. read more

First time customer and probably last. I had a very nice powder manicure, regular pedicure, and complimentary massage that was ruined in moments. While the service total cost $92 that I was willing to pay (no questioned asked), plus a tip, I was embarrassed and felt taken advantage of. At the end of my service, I willingly left gratuity via credit card. To remind you, gratuity is never mandatory. The woman told me I had to pay tip with cash "next time". After looking at my receipt, she asked me "where is tip" "you paid $92, where is tip?" She apparently did not like the $10 tip I left, so i wrote a few more dollars down and she walked away from me. Decided to try this salon after I received a $5 off coupon in the mail! I'm very happy I did. I made an appointment, but arrived early and they were able to take me. Tiffany did my nails and I would definitely recommend her!! I was able to show her a picture of what I wanted and she did a fabulous job! She was so meticulous with taking my old shellac manicure off and making sure my nails were smooth before applying the new shellac. I was given a complimentary massage by another employee which was wonderful. They did try to upsell me on a 10 min massage after that but I did not mind. The entire salon was super clean and very relaxing. All of the employees were extremely polite and their English was great. My shellac manicure included paraffin as well! A color shellac is $30 and French shellac is $40. They do charge $5 to take off old shellac manicure, but I don't mind this charge (I know some people do). They have a rewards card that give you discounts that you can sign up for for $5. They had small signs that stated that they preferred cash tips, so just an FYI if you go! He had a client in his chair, I sat and patiently waited. It's now 12:48(48 minutes late) he calls out to me to tell me to get a pedicure. I asked if he was almost done w the client in his chair..... he was but then said he has someone else to do before me. Unbelievably Rude and incredibly unprofessional!! I informed him I'd been waiting almost 1 hr already and would just get my nails done with him and forgo the scheduled pedi as it was getting too late. He said he was doing someone else before me and I had to wait another hour and not to argue with him because that's the way it is!!! Despite the fact that I had a scheduled appointment which I confirmed with kevin yesterday and that he had me sitting waiting almost 1 hour before telling me he wasn't honoring my appointment and it'd have to wait 2 more hours. I just got a mani and eyebrow wax with a 10min chair massage here for the first time and loved it!!!! I recently relocated jobs so straying from the place I've been going to for 3 years was hard! But Kevin and Helen were so wonderful and everything was great! mani is holding up massage fantastic and my eyebrows are just the way I like. prices are good salon is clean and well decorated! there was also a regular customer in there too which you can easy tell because the workers all knew her and a lot about her, which I like! I have been dying to go here since I moved to CT 2 years ago. Only reason I haven't is because of their prices. They are a bit too high for the normal every two week visit for my powder gel manicure. But today I wanted to try them out. I have to say that I was slightly disappointed in the service of the "social" aspect. The receptionist wasn't as warm or friendly and it was very quiet. Almost too quiet. But I will say that my nail technician did a fantastic job on my nails and that is rare to find. I love how my nails came out. Over all if you're okay spending 47 dollars for a powdered gel or up then this is the place. Although pricey it's great quality care on your toes and fingers!
