Every time I visit Rochester, I find a new hidden gem (to me). I will admit, I never have high expectations for the food here but every time, I am pleasantly surprised! There was quite a lot to choose from, and it all sounded so good! We finally settled on the Cajun hash for savory; you need a sweet chaser - the caramel pecan French toast was going to do that job. It was a big effort getting pictures because they first thing I wanted to do when seeing these was to dig right in. The Cajun hash was PACKED with flavor. Each bite just as good as the last till it was all gone . Following up with the French toast was just so good. I'm typically conflicted when pecans are involved but there was no grey area here. I loved every bite! This has been added to my "definitely eat here again" list! read more

First of all, let me say it's a little confusing because the blue plate sign is on the building, but you don't see it anywhere on the doors as its in a strip mall, It's actually the coffee shop we walked in stood at the front door waiting to be seated. Servers kept walking by us finally we walked up to the coffee counter and they said oh you just order here then sit down and it will be btiu by t out to you, why nobody said anything to us? As for the food,well my breakfast burrito, I would compare it to a McDonald's breakfast burrito, except for the fact they used real cheddar cheese instead of processed, which is nice. We also got French toast, bacon and sausage. Bacon was lacking. Same with the sausage that are premade frozen sausage patties. I can't say anything special about this place. Sadly, it was OK at best. Not a typical restaurant though - you would order and get your number to place at your table so pretty self-sufficient there. Friendly staff and spacious. Only feedback was wait times for food (20 mins or so) was a bit odd given we came during non-peak time. Our hungry toddler ended eating all his snacks and was ready to leave when the food came Ordered - Beef Brisket Sandwich (2/5). Meat was dry and bun also was soggy. Prices a bit steep ($17?) Tonight, after a day of sightseeing in SE Minnesota, we stopped at the Blue Plate Diner in Rochester, now Novios Cafe for dinner. There were four of us. Two had the Ham and Cheese Quiche, one of us had the spinach and cheese empanadas with a small salad and I had the pretzel bites with cheese and a bowl of split pea and ham soup. Nice location with live music entertaining us while we dined on delicious food. Service was excellent. read more

The food and service is good. We have been at the local hospital and finally wanted a decent meal. Thankfully we got it here. I ordered the biscuit and gravy and they were average. Can't really mess that up.... But the thing to eat here is the poutine! It was nice layered in a bowl and the portion was amazing. We will be going back. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because our server brought us the check only after eating g our food for 10 minutes. We weren't even done ordering! Decided to get an infused RedBull and thankful we did. It was perfect! Must try the poutine and infused RedBull. The atmosphere is great for a small family breakfast/lunch. read more

By far the best coffee shop and bakery in Rochester! The maple donuts are yummy and the cinnamon and caramel rolls are outstanding! The breakfast sandwich on a biscuit is really good too! Their coffee is great as well! They make a really good Cortado and a good caramel macchiato! This is my "Go To" spot every weekend! Make sure to come early as they get really busy on the weekends. This wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but wasn't terrible. It's a small eatery connected to a coffee shop that's divided by a movable screen. There aren't very many tables and there was only one server on for breakfast. The food was ordinary breakfast fare. Everything came out well, but it wasn't anything fancy. I've been a patron of Blue Plate/Dunn Bros. for years. Today was the first day I ate breakfast there with the new owners (Novios) and IT WAS AWESOME! I ordered an egg platter - eggs were prepared just as I ordered, as was the bacon (crispy). I chose the Carmel pecan French toast as my bread choice and it did not disappoint. Large serving and very rich, but really yummy. Able to take some home due to the size and richness and tastes just as great reheating. Always good! This is a nice place. It is always clean, always welcoming and while we only visit for breakfast or lunch always good. Their coffee is fabulous, and the food is very good. We ordered a Senior breakfast which was so good. I had the Pancake and it was delicious. The coffee was great, the server too who made sure the cup stayed filled. Best breakfast in town! (But I do miss the delicious blue corn pancakes) Pretty much every breakfast item here is great but my favorite is the 125 omelette which is egg white, cheddar and spinach. The breakfast potatoes on the side are fantastic. My favorite part about this place is the coffee is great, they brew their own beans. I picked this place at random because my husband likes breakfast and diner/old people food. I could not have been happier with the choice. We both got the same dish but it was AMAZING. Not your run of the mill average food like I was expecting. The food was just fantastic. I feel like what we got was a breakfast poutine, I don't recall the menu name. Tater tots, cheese, sausage, covered in breakfast gravy and topped with an egg. It was high quality, high flavor. I would eat here every visit to the area. Highly recommend. On a recent trip to Rochester, MN, I was looking for a good breakfast place. While Rochester, MN is not a foodie or fine dining destination, you can find some decent places if you are willing to look. In my search, I found blue Plate Diner. This diner is combined with a coffee shop and you can order to sit down or take your coffee or food to go. Ordering is quick and easy. Rather then being seated and waiting for a waiter or waitress, you order what you want in line (like ordering at a coffee shop) and then you find a table. You can order off the full menu with this method. The cashier who took my order was nice, and food come out quickly. The food is not fancy, but it is good and they have a good variety. I got want I expected, a good hearty breakfast and kept me full for most of the day. I ordered the cajun hash. It included two eggs, I chose sunny side up, and toast. Rather that corned beef and breakfast potatoes, it featured andouille sausage and tater tots. I liked the tots, but wished there was more andouille sausage. Overall I enjoyed the food and down home atmosphere. If you are looking for a hearty breakfast, this is a good spot to hit. read more

Found this small diner on Yelp. Busy place with lots of locals. Coffee shop right next door. Our server was pleasant and attentive but order was messed up. My chicken salad sandwich was delicious but the other order came out as a tuna melt not tuna salad.... Disappointed for sure. But the soup was great. 3 choices even at a small diner. If I can give this place 0 stars I would, came in today through the drive thru for an egg and cheese sandwich, after a couple of bites I looked down at the sandwich and it was MOLDY. As anyone would do I went back to the establishment, and asked for a manager and he was very dismissive and very unconcerned about a moldy sandwich that his staff prepared. I asked him how would this happened, as this restaurant gives a mom and pop shop with not much traffic to begin with, how would they not check their food before serving, even McDonald's check their products??? AS A SMALL BUSINESS YOU WOULD THINK QUALITY CONTROL SHOULD BE THIER NUMBER ONE CONCERN. The mold was on top of the croissant, again how was this missed. As I asked the manager again how can this happen, he gave me shrug and said "I'm embarrassed"? In a very smirk manner, he seem like he wanted to laugh a bit. No remorse, no explanation and lastly no apology. I'm not an owner of a business but in this situation I would at least try to make it right, nothing. I asked for a refund since me being there seem like it was inconvenient for the manager and staff. I am a person of color, and I don't want to bring this up, but I felt like I was being treated poorly because of it. Will attach photos, with the moldy sandwich. :) never again. And will probably have tell everyone around me that looks like me as a person of color and wears the hijab never go back there too, since we are not welcome ! read more

I came here with my partner and one of his good friends to celebrate my partner's birthday. We were expecting and wanting just a classic diner vibe with decent food and welcoming service. We were greeted by one server and another that they were training in, needless to say, they had their hands already full and busy. Added on top of that, Blue Plate Diner is just a small section of a Dunn Brothers that was packed full this particular morning. This is nothing against them, they had a lot going on. However, the food was very bland, burnt but also soggy, and we couldn't even finish our meals. A few bites in and we couldn't eat anymore. We ended up going through a McDonalds drive thru. This place has gone right down the toilet!! $17 for a Brisket sandwich you would expect it to be good and edible. That was not the case here. The Brisket was over cooked, very dry, no flavor and burnt on the outside. Hard to find a clean table. Had two girls to busy yapping with each other instead of doing their job of cleaning tables. Never again will I eat at this place. The rating should be a zero but it won't let me go that low. read more

We tried the Blue Plate Diner today after church. We were a group of 7. We were seated within 10-25 minutes. That was satisfactory. We waited a little to order because the only waitress was quite busy and quite disorganized. She brought our coffee and we waited quite a while for half and half. In a few minutes she brought a fresh pot of coffee. Our order took quite a while. When they were served, two orders were switched. She offered to have a new omelet made, but it took a very long time. After arrival home, we discovered that an item was overcharged (waffle plate for just waffles). I loved the ambiance of the diner, I appreciated the variety on the menu including the sides and the food was good. I am assuming the waitress was inexperienced or just having a bad day. My husband and I will be back but I can't speak for our entire group. Only 3 stars due to the disorganization, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. read more
