We have been to this store a few times before and have been met with poor customer service. However today my husband went to the UMC Quickcare next door with our 3 and 4 year old to this location to pick up a referral for me. Upon entering the store my husband states that it took a while to be greeted. When they finally were greeted the owner asks what brought them in. My husband stated they just came from the Quickcare and the kids wanted to come see the fish. Astonishingly the woman gave him a look and stated "Oh well I hope they're not sick" and not with the tone of being worried for them, but rather to the tone of they shouldn't be in the store if they're sick. The entire rest of the visit every time my husband and kids came remotely close to her she would go across the store. Again, my husband and kids were not sick and shouldn't have been met with hostility. I get being weary of your own health, but my husband is very easy going and for him to bring up this quick bad interaction to me speaks to how rude/off putting this was. Safe to say we won't be returning or purchasing from this store again and from the looks of other reviews this is not the first time the owner here has mistreated customers. In this time we should all know by now that kindness goes a long way and I hope this business does better. read more

I recently started the fishkeeping hobby and was beyond excited to set up my new 120-gallon tropical aquarium. On my first visit to the store, I spoke with a clerk named Andre Williams and explained that I was new to the hobby and needed help selecting fish that would be appropriate for my tropical tank. Andre suggested a few fish, and I trusted his advice. At checkout, the store owner made a comment about goldfish being for cold water--right in front of us. At that point, I had Andre return some fish that the owner claimed wouldn't be a good match. I appreciated the input and assumed we corrected the issue. Once I got home, I waited for my aquarium maintenance professional, Bobby, to help introduce the new fish. As soon as he saw them, he was shocked and told me these fish were completely incompatible with a tropical setup. I was confused and upset--this was supposed to be a fun new hobby, and now I had fish that could harm my tank. I called the store immediately. A woman answered and put me on hold to speak to the owner. He claimed he "warned" me about goldfish being cold-water fish--but at no point did he clearly explain that they were not compatible with the other tropical species I had. He took my money quickly and made no real effort to ensure I was making the right choice for my tank. I would have spent thousands over time building out this hobby. Instead, they lost a loyal customer over $100 and a lack of proper guidance. They also refused to offer a refund or even store credit for the mistake. If you're new to the fish hobby, I strongly suggest you go somewhere that takes the time to ask what you already have in your tank and helps you make responsible choices--for the health of your fish and your wallet. Wish I could give this 0 stars but unfortunately I can't. We recently moved here and wanted to get our teenager and toddler anew tankS. We walked in shortly after they opened, some middle aged lady at counter looked our way and nothing. No greeting or a friendly smile. We went around and looked at things and kept getting stared at by another older lady. My son was so excited he wanted to get the older ladies attention to show her something, I could see him going into tap her to get her attention, but she turned and looked at him and said "Don't touch me!" very rudely. I'm sorry my toddler was going to get your undivided attention, but you don't have to be rude about it. I've heard from other people this is not a first. we ended up walking out of there empty-handed due to the lack of customer service. I guess PetSmart or some other fish store it is for all of our aquarium needs. Update: 2k plus later we got 3 beautiful tanks, decor, and everything else they wanted. I still highly DO NOT recommend going there if you have little ones or if you look like crap after unpacking moving boxes all day because they may think you don't have money to spend. read more

After reading the reviews I will have to say you can't believe all that being said (except mine). I wanted to start a new aquarium and as soon as I walked in I was greeted. The place is well organized and big. Soon after the owner Greg could see I didn't know what I was looking for so he started to help me out. I can be super complicated but he politely got through all that and informed me of what my choices were. Then as I was picking my fish I was helped by another worker who was super informative about how to set up my fish tank. I was given step by step instructions and he even corrected me when I missed a step. I did notice that when I was indecisive about my plant needs he was quick to go over every plant in detail and what I can expect from them (size wise) so I can make an informed decision. I do like this place and even the next day when I went back to buy another plant the lady at the register was so nice to greet me and help me make another informed decision. I don't like pushy sales people so I like that they gave me information and politely stood back while I thought of what I wanted. I highly recommend doing here. read more

Two out of my 6 fish immediately showed signs of illness and while she did the exchange she was fragrantly trying to deny the fish she sold me (that already had a swim bladder issue I thought I could fix) was ever ill at all. Been to this store a couple times since getting into the hobby. Always friendly staff, unique fish and great prices. The livestock is healthy and happy. I went in today to get a piece of driftwood for the big tank that is being set up that's where I met Michelle. Michelle is very knowledgeable, gave her recommendations and also answered every question I had. Great customer service every time I have been in. This was my third time coming in today to support and buy from a shop that isn't petsmart or petco. I walked into petsmart a few days ago and the tanks were absolutely foggy and green. Couldn't believe it. Blue Reef Aquatics knows what they are doing and lingered around while I was making up my mind. Thanks to all the employees for quick and helpful suggestions as well. I will for sure be a returning customer. I remember when they were in the old spot, I finally checked out the new location and I like the layout of the store. That huge big fish tank is the icon for the store but it's all salt water, since I'm a freshwater person I like to imagine the possibilities of having a tank that huge. They have couple 180 gallon tank sizes in stock. Parking was wide open. Maybe because I went late but I was able to park in front of the store. The workers was very friendly, I had a worker answer all my questions but they didn't have what I was looking for. Good store to visit if you're in the area, located up North of Vegas. read more

The store itself looks nice and the tanks look well maintained. That being said, we felt like we were lied to. Having called ahead asking to trade some fish in, we were told on the phone they offered some store credit. After getting the fish together and making the drive to the store, we were told that they don't offer store credit. At that point we just left the fish there as we're redoing our 240 gallon tank. Sorry to say this is the last time I go to Blue Reef for my aquarium needs. It's hard to find employees these days let alone good employees so I empathize with any local business owner however the employees here , not the owners, aren't knowledgeable about anything tank related, don't wear masks and have literally no personality. Fish prices have gone up during this pandemic but prices here are significantly higher than anywhere else in town. $129 for a fox face, $39.99 for cleaner shrimp. These are 50 % and 33 % higher than nearby LFS. I'll keep my business with Sonny at Aquatic Treasures. His employees are knowledgeable, friendly conscientious and his prices are much more reasonable and he takes care of his regular customers. read more

Its nice to have a local fish place that actually cares about your personal tank and not just about what you spend..whether its testing water, to tank sicknesses, i feel that donna and greg are very helpful especially with all the combined knowlege and experience they have. Either spending $300 or 0$ i always feel welcome, and never feel that my questions are unanswered. We were here last week. I was so irritated walking out of there although I highly doubt they knew. People working here are rude with very poor customer service. No one was wearing a mask! They are all about making money and it's not about the customer at all! The array of fish was good in some areas but not in others. Way cooler places in the city to find fish with way better customer service. Also a better selection of fish at other places. Would not recommend this place to anyone and will be surprised if they're open long due to terrible customer service. My Fiance and I really like this store a lot as we bought our dragon fish from here about five months ago. Why I am now just completing my Yelp review is beyond me I suppose out of sight out of mind perhaps? The selection of fish is really good since they remodeled and added more fish, tanks and merchandise. They have a great selection for fresh water and salt water fish! I like that the store is divided in half with both types of fish. They have a great variety of coral and live marine for fish and tanks. The quality of fish is great and the prices are fair. They have everything it seems, seahorses, shrimp, hermit crabs, eels, sharks and a huge inventory of fish! The staff is nice and always available to answer questions and seem very knowledgeable. They have a great selection of tanks both small and large. We stop by when we are in the neighborhood which is not very often unfortunately. This is a full service aquatics store, if they don't have it then you don't need it! read more

Nice fish store, but over-priced (as expected with small specialty stores). I have absolutely no idea about fish, but one day last summer I decided I needed a pet, preferably one that requires minimal care. So off I went, to purchase a fish on my lunch break. I bought Blitz, my awesome purple betta fish, for ~$9. Walmart sells bettas for 2/3 the price, but the fish in the containers always look sad and questionably alive. The fish at this store looked pretty lively. I also bought betta food here, ~$3 for a jar of pellets...which will honestly probably last over 2 years at the rate I feed him (maybe 4-6 pellets a day). I may be over feeding him, but hey, he looks like he's hungry man! Pretty darn sure fish food is cheaper at other stores, ie Walmart. Bottom line: buy your fish here but your accessories somewhere else! read more

First time there and the customer service was horrible. I was asked to put my drink (iced tea) on the counter instead of carrying it around. That's usually not that big of a deal and seems like a reasonable request from most store owners. I asked to talk to the manager though, because I have hypothyroidism and get dehydrated very easily. I promised not to spill and there was very little liquid in my cup anyway - maybe 1/4 cup of a venti iced tea. The woman at the counter who asked me to put it down was very nice, cordial, kind and just doing her job. She didn't hesitate to call the manager and let me talk to her. The manager told me that the animals (fish) come first and that unless I wanted to put a credit card at the counter with a deposit of $10,000 that she was sorry but it is her policy that drinks remain at the counter only. She said this even though I'd explained that I get dehydrated easily. It clearly didn't matter that we came from the other side of town, that we are fish lovers, that we were planning to be paying customers. What little of the store I did get to see looked great - the tanks looked great, products looked great, product placement was great. But my husband and I had to leave because I couldn't be far from a beverage. It was unfair. read more

Was rudely yelled at by an employee or owner did not ask for moving the lid of a tank to get a better view of a fish. Yelled at not to touch and if we want to touch to leave them a credit card with a 10k balance. Nowhere did it say not to touch. The signs said no hands in tank to not lean on the tanks. We did neither. But instead of calmly telling my husband to not touch their items we were yelled at and ridiculed as if we were children. They had a beautiful selection and if not for the horrible customer service experience we would have walked away with many fish since it was what we went for and they had almost everything I was looking for but could not stand to be there any longer after being yelled at and followed through the store as if I was going to steal something or break it.
