Wow after 14 years of this being our favorite place, I'm sad to say the last two times have proven this place has gone downhill fast and last night was horrible, so this is the end of a regular place for us. They were clearly short staffed on Father's Day, so I allowed for that. However, when you're sitting there forever and 3 wait staff are going by you several times and can't even say "someone will be with you shortly ".....not a word. Funny thing is the patios were fairly empty. We would have left, but again we've loved the food here for 14 years so hung in there. Then big mistake was sitting across from the pizza oven! The hostess, who I have to say is an amazing employee, she was literally doing everything. Seating people, cleaning tables, answering the phone, cleaning the stuff off the pizza area, bringing clean pans, getting drinks, etc. BUT she was using those nasty old rags to clean the table, touching the cash register etc., never washed her hands and then she was grabbing handfuls of the fresh basil and ripping pieces and putting them on the pizza, then posting the pizza with her fingers to maybe check it wasn't burned on the bottom? I was literally dying watching this, I'm not even a germaphobe. Then I watched the other waiter who wears dirty baggy jeans wipe his hands in his pants and also manhandle the basil in the same way. So gross. I saw another party get mad because the pizza was not cut, they asked for it to be cut again....and then got angry because they still had to tear at it and everything fell off. When our pizza came....it was the same, but we dealt with it. We ALWAYS get the Butterscotch pudding, but at this point we just wanted out. Had to wait forever to ask for a box and check. I'll miss the old Blue Ribbon as I miss Craftsman sadly, but there are others with actual service, we gave them a chance the last time it was bad, but this is the 2nd and done! read more

Tried this place for the first time since we were in the area and looking for something simple. We got the pizza and mac and cheese and they were both ok. Nothing special though so not sure I would ever go back. It was also pricey especially for the amount and quality of food. Service was good and there was plenty of free parking. read more

A very cool place. The waitress was very friendly even though I just went to have a glass of wine to kill some time. She was to very polite and gave great service. The wine was on happy hour and very delicious and even better a great price. Next time would definitely need to try the pizza. read more

Came here on a Friday for lunch. It's been a couple of years before I last came. The restaurant was pretty empty so no reservations were needed. Service was friendly and prompt. There are many tables available to sit at, both inside and out. I didn't have as good of a time eating the pizza this time as I remembered fondly from a couple years ago. Stopped in here over Spring break when the family was craving some good pizza, and I sure am glad we did! It's been a moment since I've found a decent pizza with Lemon on it and the Signature lemon pizza at Blue Ribbon hit the spot! The pizzas were generously proportioned, slightly larger than a typical personal sized pizza, and they were phenomenal. The staff was super friendly and patient, helpful with recommendations, and overall it was a pleasant experience. My daughter (5) wanted watermelon juice, and to my surprise when she ordered it, they had it! It was amazing and made her day. We'll absolutely come back next time we're in town. read more

We've been coming to Blue Ribbon for years and it's definitely one of our favorite pizzas in SD. I like that it's also tucked away from the madness of the 101 so it's easier to park and get a table quickly. I'd highly recommend the drunken tomato pizza - pesto, vodka sauce, cheese! So good. Also if you're coming here you cannot leave without ordering the truffle popcorn. It puts all other popcorn to shame. If this was sold in bags it would be game over! They have an extensive menu with starters, drinks, and a ton of pizza combos so there will be something for everyone. read more

I wish I could write a negative 5 star review. Please read this thoroughly to understand the experience. First, let's start with empathy, it appeared that they were severely understaffed with just one busser and one waitress. For that, I feel bad for them. For our experience, they can go ef off. Read below. We visited them on Saturday, December 27th in a group of 8: - Stood at the check in for 10 minutes while the one waitress wouldn't make eye contact with us - Finally sat down, took 20 minutes to get the waitress. However, she did walk by 10 times and ignored us. - I ordered a diet coke. She came back and said they were out of diet coke. - I ordered a tea. It was 1/2 filled and full of tea leaves. I asked for a different pour and she said they were out of tea. - Our meal took nearly an hour to show up. During this time, 8 other tables who ordered after us, got their food prior to us. Clearly, our order was never put in. Here's why the experience is a negative 5 stars. Again, I'm empathetic that they were understaffed. With that... - They could have told us at check in - There was no reason to ignore us - If she had just said, "I'm sorry, we're understaffed, I appreciate your patience", that would have been a decent human thing to do - No reason for her to be rude to us for asking for ketchup for my kids While the waitress was rude, I clearly blame management. If you own this place and you had people not show up, don't put your establishment in the hands of a single server. read more

Was excited to try a new (to us) pizza place. We had a reservation but when arrived were just plonked down on the patio and mostly ignored. Got that feeling that service might be haphazard so we were ready to order everything when server stopped by. Goat cheese was a big portion or maybe just seemed like that as not very tasty. Drunken tomato pizza was a good idea and just fine. Wanted to order a beer but server had disappeared then passed without making eye contact so I guess that saved me a few bucks. But memory of atmosphere is we felt alone in our slightly disappointing experience. Seemed to be others around that had been there before, and at least they were able to order a beer, so perhaps they know something we didn't. read more

This was my first time here. This place is a pizza lovers dream. If you love pizza or beer or both. This is a must stop for you. I don't normally eat bread, but I ate a whole 12" pie. This place has a nice intimate seating set up. Both indoor and outdoor. The indoor has somewhat of a rustic feel to it. On a side note the restroom is nicely designed and clean. The employees are very nice, and fun to talk to. The hostess Mia, was vey polite and had a great smile. The server Rachel, was on top of her game. She was everywhere. She taking care of multiple customers, and didn't miss a beat. She was also great at explaining the different options. It was also great to see Mia back up Rachel, on serving the customers. Right away, I would want to recommend the gluten free crust. Normally that doesn't taste that great. But this place made it FIRE! The gluten free has a nice crisp bite to it. I would it eat is while it's hot. Like all gluten free. It can feel a little chewy when it's cold. The King Pie was nice. The sausage, had the consistency of ground beef. But with a nice Italian bite. I did not taste any bacon, which is supposed to be in the King Pie. The Old School, was a nice classic pie. Great big cuts of pepperoni, and filled with cheese. The only con is the limpness of the slices. But, hey, you can fold it like a taco. I will come back to talk about the Brussel sprouts. read more

This place was absolutely delicious. They have gluten-free option pizzas, and the dough is fermented. I was overjoyed when I learned that! The food itself is balanced enough that it would easily fill you but light enough that you won't get that greasy heavy feeling. The employees are always prompt and friendly as to be expected in Encinitas. There's not a whole lot of seating, but they do have a lower patio with heaters if necessary where you could bring your dogs (with well-behaved owners). Just bring citronella or bug spray as it is outdoors, or indoors with all the doors open so there can be rampant mosquitoes in the summer months. The price does land on the higher end, so expect to pay $20-30 per pizza because it's truly handmade with quality ingredients. One of my favorite splurges for sure. read more

Eight of us for lunch. Assigned a large table on patio which was comfortable and ample room. Setups were real forks and knives with cloth napkins, a big plus for a pizza place. It did need a more complete cleaning from the previous diners. Ordered two salads Caesar Salad and Baby Greens. Fresh ingredients a great taste to both. Five pizzas: Blue Ribbon Extra, Signature Lemon, Staffs Favorite, King's Pie, and a Cheesey Garlic Bread Pizza The Lemon pizza did have a faint lemon favor, King's Pie was covered with meat and the Cheesey Garlic Bread Pizza was as its name. The pizzas were a decent size, delightful thin crust cooked old world style with the artisan wood fire flavor. Server Brenden did a great job taking care of us and the rest of the patio which was to capacity. Restroom was clean and a single to serve both genders-creating a queue. Lumberyard's public restroom handled the overflow. Overall an excellent way to have lunch on 101. read more

Love Blue Ribbon! Been here a handful of times and the food is always very good. I'm only taking away one star because in the past, some of the appetizers we've ordered have been a very small serving size compared to the price. All very tasty, though. This time we ordered the mozzarella sticks (delicious! came with 8), the inferno pizza, the blue ribbon classic pizza and the salted butterscotch pudding The pizzas were both excellent! Inferno is spicy and the classic blue ribbon is wonderful. The basil and tomatoes both tasted fresh. The butterscotch pudding was very good. We arrived in the late afternoon on a Saturday and it was almost empty. I've been in the past where there has been a long wait so I was happy that wasn't the case. We were greeted and seated quickly. The menu has a lot of great sounding choices so it was hard to decide. We opted for the hot honey pizza. The server advised it was spicy, which we were happy about. When the pizza arrived it looked good except instead of being drizzled with hot honey it was drenched. Also, there wasn't much pepperoni on it, at least one slice had none. I eat hot honey on my pizzas when I see it on a menu so I expect it to be spicy hot. This was not hot, it had a tiny bit of spice, disappointingly. My spice tolerance is not very high so that wasn't the problem. It was a sweet pepperoni pizza for the most part. I haven't been to blue ribbon in a while but I always enjoyed their pizza, so I'm not sure what changed or if they were just having an off day. My pizza was good. Not the best and not.the worst. I do wish the pepperoni would have been smaller. I like thin crust pizza.and theirs did fit the bill. Plenty of options on the menu that it can be a little overwhelming, but the staff is very friendly and willing to help with suggestions and answer any questions. A lowkey casual atmosphere ideal for gathering with high quality friends over a good time and delicious food/drinks--we totally see why it's a local fave! We've pretty much had everything on the menu over the years and never disappointed. Last few visits, our wonderful server was Peter H. Peter is always welcoming, helpful and attentive. It's always a pleasure interacting with Peter. My husband, I and our pup enjoy our Friday afternoon late lunches at Blue Ribbon Pizzeria. The pizzas are made just as well as my favorite Pizzerias in Napoli (Italy). The salads are perfectly prepared with fresh ingredients and delicious dressings. Yesterday, we ordered... Hazy IPA Sangria Beet salad Signature pizza It's the perfect portion for my husband and I to share the salad with pizza. It's filling without making you feel stuffed. I opted for this place instead of another as they had other menu items other than pizza that I can have (like a salad) We had: -Pear & prosciutto salad (it was OK, nothing mind blowing, and I feel like the prosciutto slices were very thick and dry) -Crispy ravioli (it was just OK too, some fried stuff with marinara) -Cheesy garlic pizza (basically just a fancier cheese pizza) -angel's Hawaiian (we subbed it for sausage as I really prefer that to Canadian bacon, decent as well It was good just not thrillllling pizza. We tried this place for the first time last night. The butterscotch pudding was INSANE. So good. The rest of the food was pretty mid, but they have tons of options so maybe we just ordered wrong. But this review isn't about that. The highlight of the night was the service. I asked the staff their names, and quickly started to forget (I wana say wade, Temple (?), and Patrick? Pete? Something with a P...I'm so sorry) Anyways they were AWESOME. It was super busy and they all had a great attitude and kept up the hustle. You don't see work ethic like that anymore. When it's busy on the floor like that it's so easy for people to lose their tempers or get frustrated easily, but these guys all worked super well as a team and it was really awesome to see. I want to start off with reviewing the staff that works here.. because -to me- that can make the experience of dining out worth it if the food isn't the b e s t. We came on a Friday evening around 6, fairly crowded but open tables outside (they have space heaters though). We add our name to the list about 30-45 min wait. Walked inside to use the restroom and saw the pizza oven and decided it would be worth the wait. Around 730, we go up to the hostess stand and ask where we are on the wait.. the hostess says "oh, we didn't know where to seat you guys with the two strollers so that's why we didn't call you" What??? We ~naively~ decided to stay and said we could sit outside as long as the heaters were turned on. Because at this point we've been waiting for over an hour and are h u n g r y. Sit down... waiter comes straight up and recommends a great wine. We get over the hostess mishap and get excited for the pizza, priced at $20 a pizza we decide it HAS to be GREAT, right? .... NO, it's not. Our pizza is brought out to us by the hostess? (Where is our server?) and it's severely lacking in any kind of flavor whatsoever.. when you're priced at $20 a piece I expect SOMETHING, but there was nothing, it just left you wanting more. Our bill was over 170$ for a bottle of wine and four pizzas and we were treated like we were a hassle because we brought along two children with us to eat. Keep in mind this is not a fancy pizza place by any means... I saw another review compare it to URBN or CA pizza kitchen and honestly I feel like those places are better because at least the service isn't severely lacking.. our server showed up 1 time to the table and that was to bring our drinks. We asked to speak to the manager (I know... I'm that person) and another (very kind) server came up and explained the manager wasn't talking to people??? but she'd be willing to help out with whatever we needed for the rest of our time there. She brought us free butterscotch desserts at the end which is a nice touch, but it wasn't enough. This restaurant really, really, really HAS to teach their hostess/servers to CARE for customers and what their experience will be because that's what keeps your doors open... Super long rant but I just hope the owner sees this and does something in regards to the way his employees are running the business.. I'd be so disappointed to find out what was happening if it was mine. read more
