Absolutely fantastic experience! They made the Cadillac margarita spicy for me, and it was perfect. The drinks were absolutely delicious, and every dish we tried was outstanding. The turkey sub was incredibly fresh, the hand-cut fries were honestly some of the best I've ever had, and the garlic wings were unbelievably tender and packed with flavor, completely irresistible. I was in the mood for a certain type of bill and boy Chaunceys really nailed it. Seriously the most satisfied I have been in a long time while enjoying pizza. I had the cheesy garlic bread too. Both incredibly enjoyable. Very large portions. The staff is really nice. You walk in and make your order and pay for it and take your order number to a table. Then if you want a drink you go to the bar itself. I wasn't a big fan or having to present my credit card twice but only a minor thing. It's also pretty loud because it is a sports bar. First of all, everybody knows I love, great service, and yesterday Nika was the best. She was so on top of it and I loved seeing this place getting busy at lunch because it is truly that good. Came here on the way back from SD with friends. Staff were very friendly and seated us quickly. We ordered , wine and a margarita, both of which were very tasty. We ordered wings, fries and a margherita pizza half with and half without cheese. Sourdough crust was soft and works perfectly with the flavors. The owner came and greeted us and was very nice and asked us about the food. I don't want to bury the lead so let me start off with this: a few weeks ago I had the single most bizarre restaurant service experience of my life. In the worst possible way. But ... let's start with the good stuff. The good: My wife and I have been coming to Chauncy's at least a few times a month since we moved here from the Bay Area last summer. Overall, the experience has been fine. The food ... one of our favorite pizza's in the area. A good break from the usual New York style that is everywhere in this area. The service has also always been great. If we dine in, we usually sit at the bar and eat a late lunch and then take a "very light cheese pizza" home for my kid (he doesn't like a lot of cheese - texture thing). Every time. Other times we just pick up a "very light cheese pizza" on the way home from Fidel's after our usual Friday date night. For nearly a year, every experience was exactly the same for either of those options. The food and service are always solid, the "very light cheese pizza" with the appropriate amount of cheese. The bad: a few weeks ago, my wife and I wrap up date night at Fidel's. She places the order on the phone before we head from Fidel's to Chauncy's. She places the order, and I hear the usual "one medium very light cheese pizza please - like BARELY any cheese". She gets through the ordering process and tells me the dude was super short and rude with her on the phone from the second he picked up. I tell her they're probably just busy, etc. We drive over the Chauncy's on the way home and this series of events played out exactly this way: - I walk in, nobody in the place - I walk over to the register to the guy taking orders and say "I have a medium light cheese to go" - He says "it just came out, they're cutting it now". I look through the glass at the guy in the back cutting the pizza, and it's swimming with cheese. It looks like an extra cheese pizza. - I say "that's a lot of cheese, it's supposed to be VERY light cheese". - The actual response, no exaggeration "ok, so what do you want me to do about it?" - I couldn't believe it but, whatever, it's date night and Fidel's was awesome so I keep calm and tell him I'd like a very light cheese pizza please. - He rolls his eyes (no joke), goes into the back, talks to the pizza guy, comes back out and tells me "if we make you another pizza you're going to have to pay for it". Clearly my wife's earlier comment about this guy being rude was accurate, and had nothing to do with how busy they were. - Again, couldn't believe it. I want to pay for what I ordered ... but I didn't even say that. I just calmly asked to speak with the guy in the back because clearly he's the one making the call. - Another big eye roll. - He comes back out and tells me they will re-make the pizza. 20 minutes later, our usual "very light cheese pizza" was ready to go. So Chauncy's - in the year we've been going to your place, I've never had an experience like this and I have never seen this guy there taking orders before this night. He's not doing you any favors. We haven't been back since. I'm sure we'll get over it with time, but the whole thing was just really off-putting. If you need more information, or an exact date, I can provide that. We had high hopes for Chauncey's based on the space and the menu. However, we noticed that each time we walked down 101, the Pizza Port was consistently crowded, and Chauncey's was nearly empty. Never been a huge fan of Pizza Port. but sadly, the crowds know what they are doing. We had a couple of slices and beer early one evening (around 5), and it was a disappointing experience. They were out of a few beers on tap even though the dinner hour was just starting, and the slices were not hot and the toppings were sparce. All and all - meh. read more

The article in 'The Coast News', dated May 29, 2026, interested us enough to make the trip from Oceanside to Chauncey's Pizza in Solana Beach and it was a trip wasted to experience average Pizza. As a retired Chef that respects how difficult the restaurant business has become, I am continually amazed at the reviews by customers of the many pizza restaurants in San Diego county. Many of these erroneous reviews are 4 Stars and higher for pizza that should only rate 2 to 2-1/2 Stars at most. Also, I did not taste the distinctive flavor profile of the Sourdough crust. The red sauce was bland, and there was very little seasoning on the pizza. The staff was very friendly and attentive to all our needs during our visit. Unfortunately, we will not try Chauncey's Pizza a second time. read more

Great experience all around. Bar and restaurant super clean, with many TVs so that you can follow your sport of choice. Friendly and prompt service without making you feel rushed. I would like to think I am a decent pizza connoisseur having been born and raised eating legendary New Haven, CT pizza (Pepe's, Sally's) and then have pursued and experienced claimed top pizza venues in the US and in Europe. Chauncey's is definitely not one of your run-of-the-mill pizza joints. The quality and thus the taste of their pizza's is right up there with some of the best I have had. I would actually say that the margarita pizza is hands down the best I have had yet in San Diego. I loved this lunch--Then having my leftovers for breakfast! One of the best pizzas ever-- no kidding--vegetable no-cheese, but I added Parmesan from the jar. The vegetables-- thick generous and fresh. Loaded with artichoke hearts and olives! We stopped by yesterday while in san diego. I really wanted to like this place. Any ways order my food at 6:40 pm one pizza and order of wings. Although they were busy they were running food out but this is where it went down hill. They brought out a pizza for the table next to us who had asked for a gluten free pizza, which the pizza they received wasnt so guy comes back he said sorry mistake its not ur pizza mind you they had touched the pizza and had on slices on there plates. The world cup game was on and the place was not even that full. An hour had gone by and still no sandwiches. The bartender had to come to our table to apologize and offered us a discount and said that the food would be right out. Another 20 minutes had gone by and still no food. I was so disappointed I asked them to cancel my order and the server showed attitude when I made this request. The service here was so epically terrible. A good manager would not leave a business so understaffed during lunch time on a Saturday when the World Cup is on television and there are parties of people piling in. Ehhh, I really want to like this place because I'd love a new restaurant in the area, but after our 2nd time here we won't be back. The pizza is just OK. It reminds me of Chuck E Cheez pizza (which I actually love) but at a very, very premium price. The counter service doesn't justify the prices + the suggested 25% tip, in my opinion. Both times we were here there was 1 woman who was taking on the jobs of 3 people; taking food/drink orders, making the drinks and handling some of the to-go orders on the other side of the restaurant. The 1 other bartender working was pretty difficult to flag down. Not sure if he was intentionally ignoring us due to his conversation with people sitting at the bar, or if he just didn't notice us, but either way it didn't make for an enjoyable experience. The ambiance is nice, but the giant garage door being open makes it pretty cold inside for dinner. Bring a jacket, most people sitting inside had one on. read more
