Ok, this ones for the ladies. I did so much research on getting my first tattoo. I was 45 and said screw it I'm tired of looking at a ugly scar that haunted me daily!! I had something in mind. So I finally got the courage to get one of my favorite art works done on my left arm. After looking through a few tattoo artists on yelp, I wen't into Blue Rose Tattoo not expecting to have the piece I wanted flawlessly recreated on my arm because of it's intricacy. This was not the case. In fact, Nick, the tattoo shop owner was more than happy to oblige and was confident about doing it from the start which made me feel very comfortable about getting this done. The amount of detail and precision is astonishing and its great to show off. We were able to knock it out in 5 hours with only a 5 minute break which is super impressive. A lot of people will ask where you got it done and I tell them, "Nick at Blue Rose in Alum Rock, dopest guy ever." This is my first big piece and couldnt be more happy. I was told I didn't have to do a review but I'm doing one anyways I've been to 6 different tattoo artists and Nick has been the best by far. I came back to town for a quick visit & went out on a limb & wanted to get a piece done for my brother since he passed away. It was very last minute, and Nick was the most understanding person ever (even after I was late) . Other artists I've been to were just too serious & uptight about pieces YOU want done, and I get it, they're the professional, but please be kinder to clients, especially for their first time. I have 3 tattoos from Blue Rose. I came In with my sister one day for a Friday the 13th special and couldn't wait to come back! The work I've had done has been amazing! I just started my dream piece yesterday with Nick. He is an amazing artist who truly listened to my vision for my sleeve. He was patient sent me design ideas ahead of time and created an amazing design for me. He made sure I loved the placement and size. Went over the process with me and how many sessions I would need. The entire time I was getting my tattoo he talked to me it honestly felt like we were old friends catching up. There was another artist there as well who was just as nice and made me feel super comfortable being there. The vibe was amazing. This yelp review is SOOOOO long over due lol I met Nick back in 2015/2016 . I found him on IG and he was able to squeeze me in the same day since i really wanted to get tattooed. When i went in this was when he was still located on 4th street downtown. I was pretty nervous since it was going to be my first big tattoo on my arm , but he made me feel so confident , he made conversation with me throughout the whole time he was tattooing me , and before i knew it he was done. Fast forward to today , here we are May 2019 and 20 tattoos later and nick is still my go to tattoo artist , i absolutely love this guy and everyone at the shop. This is my 670th review. And of all of them, this has to be my favorite and most meaningful. I've never had a tattoo on my life but always wanted one. Even though I could never make up my mind, I knew it would come to me one day. And when I was with my very close friend with terminal cancer last week I asked him what I should get. Without hesitation, he said "hummingbird". It was certainly a moment of clarity because I knew it would be perfect. When I woke up the next morning I thought to myself, why wait? So I put out a desperate message to several shops that I needed a tattoo asap with the reason why and that I wanted my friend to see it so he would know that I really meant that I would get a hummingbird tattoo. I got a lot of responses but Nick was the only one who could give me a solid appointment that same day. I talked to him on the phone so I knew what to expect and had no anxieties when I entered the shop because he was so kind and friendly. I was so impressed with his professionalism and confidence that I was more relaxed than I thought I'd be. I couldn't wait to show it to my dear friend and he absolutely melted when I showed him. I've been getting tattooed by Nick, the owner for a little over 10 years now! He has don't almost all my work, and has even helped me cover up a few pieces too! Nick is someone you find in the industry who is the definition of hospitality. He is kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and very skilled. He does not stick to one style of tattooing and is very talented doing any kind of work. Getting tattooed by Nick is always something I looked forward too. Nick D is amazing. He designed an incredible custom piece for me that was very personal. Long story short its a memorial piece and I absolutely love it. He listened to everything I wanted to incorporate, changed things I asked and honestly brought the piece to a whole other level of fucking awesome. I couldn't believe my eyes when he sent me the sketch, and now I am even more in love with it then I thought possible. He's tattooed my mother, boyfriend and 2 best friends and I recommend him to anyone and everyone. It's funny how when you have a bad or negative experience, you hit up your Yelp app with wicked speed to declare to the entire world how horrible the food or customer service was. But when you have one of the best human experiences or connections with a Yelp business, you take your sweet time posting. Sadly, this was exactly that. This post should've been up and running the same weekend my tattoo healed. I'm sorry Nick! Just lost my job, came up from San Diego to San Jose to visit family.... what better to commemorate losing your only source of income? Going and getting tattooed with your older sister. Lol plus she said she'd pay for whatever amount if I came up short on cash. SCORE. Spent some time on Yelp checking out nearby parlors and reading reviews. Sent out the mass message from Yelp to several businesses in the SJ area. Nick was the first person to reply and obtain a day and time that was convenient for us. Walked into his modest sized shop knowing exactly what we wanted, he put me at ease by drawing up what I wanted on his iPad...he talked a great deal about his family, which I liked...and in the end I walked out with a handful of awesome tattoos and a big smile.
