Scarborough State Beach is a popular Rhode Island beach. I was pleasantly surprised by all the available parking on a holiday weekend. Parking is $14 for non residents. This fee can be much higher at other beaches. This beach is very easily accessible, with just a short walk from the parking. Unfortunately this beach isn't the cleanest, not so much from litter, but there is a ton of seaweed. Despite the holiday weekend it wasn't hard to find a spot for our large group of twelve, including little kids who love to play in the sand. They dug so deep in the sand that they found some baby crabs. There are plenty of available places for drinks, ice cream, or lunch. We didn't utilize any of them, since we brought our own. They even sell Scarborough tees and hoodies, sunscreen and beach toys right on the beach for 40% off. The waves were pretty intense making it a decent surfing beach. They have a ton of available changing rooms and one available, pretty filthy restroom. I thought it was pretty odd that in order to operate a shower you'll need to insert 75 cents for three minutes of shower time. They don't even provide water to rinse off your feet from the sand. We had to use drinking water to rinse our feet before returning to the car. They have lifeguards on duty, who every once in a while go on the loudspeaker to make some nonsense announcement. Overall this is an okay beach. Not one I would plan on returning to, unless they could make some adjustments.

We've visited Scarborough a few times and it's quickly moving up our favorite list. We were there on Sunday, and while it was windy and the water cold, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. If it wasn't so windy, the cold water would've felt super refreshing. The parking is fairly inexpensive at $14 per car, and compared to some of the others nearby, it's pretty well priced imo. It's a nice beach stroll too. On the far western side of the beach stand the ruins of an old stone home, which are cool to see. The beach was clean, the bathrooms were what you expect for a beach, the shops and snack bar were great too. Nearby, you can also pop by many great food spots like Gansett Wraps. Another one of our favorites! All of their wraps are fantastic. The pistachio baklava rivals what we've had in Europe.

Such an amazing beach. Sam is extremely clean and water is very clean with ways. Definitely could come back here very easy to come by public transportation or driving which there is a paid parking lot.

As a native Rhode Islander my first advice about beaches is that the beaches on Cape Cod are really nice in the summer, and oh yes, all you Ct. folks, I hear Taylor Swift has a summer place in Watch Hill in Westerly, so you don't really need to come here. Just kidding-well no not kidding. Scarborough beach is a state beach with lifeguards and a nice pavilion for changing, bathrooms and beach snacks. The actual beach is about a mile long and and has lots of parking on the other side of the dunes, the sand is pretty much rock free and depending on the wind etc, interesting but not challenging waves. I like it a lot as its a very diverse crowd here, lots of families from all over R.I. and of course lots of young folks too, a great beach to take walks on and its one of our go to beaches in the area (the others being Wheeler, Salty Brine and Camp Cronin). Lots of rules, boogie boards ok, surf board not, no charcoal grills on the beach and of course no dogs on the beach during working hours (8:30am to 6pm).

Scarborough State Beach is one of Rhode Island's most popular and well known beaches. Developed in 1937, this 26 acre facility located on Ocean Road in Narragansett has approximately 2,325 feet of beach frontage. It has long been known as the principal destination for a "day at the beach" for thousands of Rhode Islanders over the years. It's a nice serene beach with lots of room for settling and for walking for a long while. It really is a great beach for all ages with two beautiful pavilions, boardwalk, observation tower and sitting areas along the boardwalk. Picnic table, concessions, restrooms, and coin operated hot showers. Scarborough was originally developed in 1937. It has long been known as the principal destination for a "day at the beach" for thousands of Rhode Islanders over the years. With the acquisition of Olivio's and Lido's beaches to the south of Scarborough, the State of Rhode Island added 16 acres and over 1,000 feet of beach frontage for expanding the saltwater recreational facilities at Scarborough. The Olive's and Lido's beaches, are now referred to as the Scarborough South. The addition of Olivio's and Lido's beaches has brought the total acreage of Scarborough State Beach to 59.7 acres, and .85 of a mile of shoreline. Lifeguards on duty 9am -6pm. There's a fee to get in.....Non-Residents: Adult $10.00. Child from 5-11yo: $7.00. And fee for parking.

Nice beach was there mid- week. Had perfect weather there... we're from out of state cost was 6.00 for parking would of been 12 but we are seniors. Beach is free.. nice concession area for lunch. Also had gifts for sale there next to lockers. The one thing is that they close at 6pm and announce this at 5 pm over mega speaker .. very loud!they lock all bathrooms and changing area so you kinda need to take care of business before..

We were on a mission to check out some of the beaches in the area, and a friend said we needed to stop here. There's plenty of room to spread out because the beach is long, but the distance from the boardwalk area to the water is relatively narrow. The sand is soft and mostly free of rocks, and the waves are bigger here than at some other beaches because there's no breakwater offshore. The water was cold on the day we were here in early, but we weren't swimming and didn't mind. We did walk along the water's edge and put our feet in, though. This is a good beach to visit if you want to spend several hours. There are multiple parking lots with lots of spaces, buildings with showers, food, bathrooms and other amenities. Overall, this is one of the prime beaches in the area and one that should be considered when planning to spend a day at the water.

Lovely beach with a strong undertow when the waves are high. Good facilities but I brought my own food. $14 to park for out of state.
