    Mmm!!! Stop and smell.

RV campers, the amenities list is short. You have back-in parking spots and a garbage dumpster, and you're practically elbowing neighbors, but this is one of my favorite spots to camp. No need to wait in that ominous line hoping the car in front of you didn't just get the last spot. No getting up in the dark trying to catch the ocean sunrise. Here, you can roll out of bed and go swimming. Or launch a kayak and paddle up and down Ninigret. And watch the sun set without having to fight I-95 traffic home. The ocean is the amenity. Alas, out of state camping is presently $36 a night. Ouch. And you need to bring a drink tumbler and not act foolish since this is a dry campground in every way, minus two stars. However, two big shiny bonus stars for having legit ocean waves or clear, calm inlet waves in one spot. Thankfully the roads to Burlingame's free dump station are smoother than Charlestown Beach Road, and camp sites are marked well with big painted boulders and ground line markers. The ocean sand was clean, the water brisk but not impossibly cold, and the whole experience restful as we hoped. Sunrise to sunset, what a spot!

An absolutely stunning beach, with almost tropical like waters (color not temperature) and plenty of space to sprawl on out. Parking can be an issue as the lot is quite small and fills up rather quickly. However, it is one of the most peaceful/tranquil beaches I think around. However if you are reading this, feel free to head to one of the state beaches nearby, so that I can continue to enjoy this piece of heaven in peace. lol

Sand campers and breaches The Charlestown Breachway Beach is a lovely and interesting place. The beach was officially opened in 1951 but also has a RV campground that holds up to 75 campers and a cool breachway that was opened in 1958 that connects Ninigret pond to the open ocean. The area has great salt water fishing, and a little boat ramp to launch small craft from. Of course you can also get ocean access on other parts of Ninigret Pond and go through the Breach. The breach is a whole lot of fun in a kayak because at times the currents can hit 6 knots and when the tide and wind are opposite some huge standing waves that can literally break over your head might develop. Probably a good idea to know what you are doing in a yak if you mess around the breach. The beach is very pleasant and usually has pretty strong waves with occasional real ripping wave action. Fun to play in but can be a bit much for little kids and older people. The one big negative is the lack of parking. The few parking lots in the area get filled up pretty quickly and if you want to use this beach or breach in the summer you better show up early. A lovely beach and area that is cool all year long. It has some distance views of Block Island about 12 miles south and fascinating views of the extreme tides that can come screaming out of the breach during the right times. A whole lot of things to do here, but just remember that water keeps it's chill all year long.

Before you think I'm a hater, I do think this is one of the prettiest shore views in Rhode Island. I just don't think it's the best beach in the world. Beautiful golden sands and light blue waves stretching all the way to the breachway. The breachway itself is also very serene with the rocks lining the waterway and the natural untouched shores on the other side. I think you can see Block Island across the water, and little ferries gliding too and fro. Sea-newbies beware, TONS of seaweed. And not the big kelpy kind that you can avoid, but tiny free-floaty spidery hairs that completely cover your arms and legs when you emerge. Maybe I was just there on a particularly high volume day, but I can't imagine that's the case when the side beach has a sign that says "public sands below seaweed line" and there was already a heavy population on the shore. I'm not confident that I would get in the water again... but the sand is where I belong anyway. Biggest con for me, cost. Free beach but $15 parking tag on a Friday and $20 on a weekend. It's nice, but for a long drive and minimal beach activities, it seemed a little excessive. And I couldn't shake the feeling that I felt like I was trespassing in front of the private beach houses as I was wandering the shores below the dividing seaweed line. I'm guess I'm not an elitist when it comes to natural wonders.

    Great beach

Great Beach and if you have a site that is on the water it's a great spot. the only thing I would comment on is that the RV spots are tight. We have a fifth wheel and managed to get in but we had no neighbor so it was a little easy. it is a great location in Rhode Island that is close to Matunuck Beach as well as 45 minutes from Newport.

Charlestown Beach right next to the campground.

One of the best beaches in RI! Parking can be difficult on a busy day, but well worth the effort.

What is there not to love about a clean, beautiful, Rhode Island beach?…read more Came out here for a quick girl's beach day. We drove a whole 2 hours to get here and the trip sure was worth it. Beaches in New York are definitely not all that so we decided to hit up the Rhode. It did not disappoint! Let's start by saying it was only $14 to park for the whole day! There are restrooms/changing rooms on premises. Everything is compostable so no flushing but the restrooms sure were pretty clean. No running water so you're kinda stuck with just hand sanitizer. I would recommend staying away from yellow, just let it mellow. The area is pretty isolated, it doesn't get too too packed. There's a limit of how much parking is available so it can only get "packed" up to a certain point. Bottom line: come to this beach. This is all I know but don't tell everyone about it. When things become popular they quickly get ruined. I know, I should've not reviewed it but I couldn't stay greedy. You're welcome, LOL, enjoy!

We figured that people would have had to have left by then so we took a chance and drive down anyhow. When we got to the girl, we asked if they had spots and she said yes! It was $7 and we found a spot right away. Parking can be limited but they have bathrooms and the walk to the beach is only a few steps away. The beach is long and narrow with plenty of room for everyone with space in between. We headed to the right and settled just past the area that they monitor. We set ourselves up with our chairs, umbrella and Italian grinders! The beach is clean and well taken care of! I was surprised that the bathrooms had already been locked for the evening and it was only 6:30. I mean, we did pay to use the facilities... closing them before 7 on a peak summer weekend is a bit excessive. Check out the spot closest to where you park. The water is completely still and would make the perfect place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The town beach has a nice bathroom/shower area that closes at 5- but it's really nice & they offer free sunscreen (was empty)! They have Del's (thankfully) posted up on the corner which is nice & you can also order from a few nearby restaurants however we brought a cooler so I just grabbed us 3 small watermelon dels when we needed to cool down. The water was beautiful I am talking turquoise in areas & so refreshing- NO RED TIDE (which has literally been at nearly every single beach I've gone to this summer) and the rocks weren't as bad as the other beaches- so that's a plus! They're a private town beach- think very similar to Narragansett Beach- but instead of a cove you get the real deal ocean! They're a also an amazingly easy way to get to this beach- if you're from Northern RI- like I am- BACK ROADS & the ride was pretty amazing although not from my 6 year old's standpoint! The surf was a little rough- hence the red flag- but the way this beach is set up- you can easily watch your kids while they dig in the sand or play in the water! The sand was soft and perfect for kids! My son had a blast! Overall I was amazed at the cleanliness and simplicity of this small town beach & it could be my new favorite - in terms of beaches I go to. We will be back on the 25th and 26th of August as we rented a Cabin At Burlinggame camp ground- as one last hoorah for my son! Can't wait to come back!

It will save you some money if you go to the beach more than 4x in the summer season. There's usually tons of open spots on the beach to lay your beach blanket down, in your own secluded area - I love being in my own space so this was a huge perk!
