The brisket sandwich was lean and amazing, the fries and the mac and cheese was absolutely perfect. The owners came out personally and brought us their ribs to try along with their grandma's recipe pasta salad -- both excellent. The char on those ribs was spot on, perfect consistency in every bite. That kind of hospitality is rare and really sets this place apart. Fair warning on the photo -- it is not great because we ate everything so fast! That should tell you everything you need to know. I will be back every single time I'm in Grain Valley. This place is a true hidden gem!

The buns for the sandwich take away so much flavor of the brisket and or turkey. Please consider going with a different bun. Or at least offer Texas Toast. You don't have pickles on the plate. Even on the sampler platter. To me, thats a bbq must. The pulled pork has no flavor and the ham was sliced thin and it was tough. We do love the french fries but not crazy about the beans. Lastly, there was sweet tea in both the sweet and the unsweet urns. Come on guys, this is a great place. Do better! We will be back. Hope to new buns. ( they smelled funny)

Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que -- The Rocket Pig Was Worth the Trip!…read more My oh my, Joe's lived up to the hype! This place was your typical BBQ stop, classic interior, simple and the smells whoa! After settling into our Airbnb, my wife and I needed dinner. We arrived around 8:15 PM and there were STILL 15-20 people ahead of us. At that hour, seeing a line told me we were probably in the right place. I planned to keep things simple: Just get a pulled pork sandwich. Then I saw the Rocket Pig. Pulled pork, BBQ glaze, bacon, pepper jack cheese, BBQ mayo and fried jalapeños. I at least showed some restraint and ordered the regular instead of the jumbo. Rocket Pig -- 10/10! This thing was outstanding. Smoky, cheesy, a little spicy, messy and loaded with flavor. My taste buds were tingling! While standing in line, we struck up a conversation with two guys from Chicago who told us people come to Joe's for the meat and the sides generally take a back seat. Since I'm definitely a "side guy," I had to find out for myself. The BBQ beans were a disappointment -- 4/10 for me. They simply didn't match the quality of everything else. My wife went with the regular pulled pork sandwich and, after getting a recommendation from one of the employees, ordered the cornbread. Winner! 10/10. Then came the banana pudding. We were told, "Don't pass on it." Melissa, who took our order, said there were only three left. DONE. Give us one! Banana pudding -- 10/10. It may honestly be some of the best banana pudding I've ever tasted. Creamy, rich and topped with crushed Heath Bar. I seriously considered getting back in line and buying the other two for later. In hindsight, I probably should have! We were also told that during the World Cup the line stretched outside and wrapped around the building, with people waiting more than two hours. After eating here, I understand why. Fortunately, our wait was only about 20 minutes, and it was absolutely worth it. Would I return? Without hesitation. But this is Kansas City, and there are still more BBQ joints I need to try! If you're visiting KC, Joe's belongs on your list. And if you like a loaded BBQ sandwich, GET THE ROCKET PIG! Food: Rocket Pig: 10/10 Cornbread: 10/10 Banana Pudding: 10/10 BBQ Beans: 4/10 Overall:

I have heard this place normally has a long line so try and go on off times. I ordered the Burnt End Dinner for $25.99 and it comes with two sides. I chose the baked beans and the street corn based on recommendation. The Burnt End Dinner isn't always available so if you see it order it. Trust me. This is my first time here and I was super excited. I read all the reviews and I knew exactly what I was going to order. When I got the burnt ends they looked heavenly. They were so incredibly tender yet still had texture. The fat had completely melted throughout the meat and kept everything moist. The seasoning was on point. Not too much but still added this great smoke and depth of flavor. Absolutely phenomenal. As for the baked beans, 100% recommend. They had chunks of meat in them and were both sweet and had a nice kick. So good. As for the street corn it was nice and salty, creamy, and sweet. The corn still had texture and was addictive. The whole meal came with three slices of bread and a couple of pickles to cleanse the palate. They also provided their hot barbecue sauce and their original. Both were amazing but the spicy is chef's kiss. So good!

The brisket itself is amazing, but then you see a brisket burrito on the menu and think, what? Why? And somehow it works. The brisket burrito is loaded with cilantro lime rice, black beans, romaine, red chile fire salsa, jalapeño apple slaw, and ghost pepper jack cheese, and it is ridiculously good. Honestly, whether you get the brisket by itself, in a taco, on a sandwich, or wrapped up in a burrito, it's hard to go wrong. Service is quick and friendly. It's counter-service style, so things move efficiently even when they're busy, and the staff is helpful if you have questions about the menu. The ambiance is exactly what you expect from a good barbecue joint. Casual, no-frills, standard BBQ spot vibes where the focus is clearly on the food rather than trying to create some overly polished dining experience. Scott's has also earned a strong local reputation, including recognition for its barbecue and burritos, and I completely understand why. Five stars. Come for the brisket. Put it on whatever you want. Apparently, you can't mess it up.

Service (A-) : Due to FIFA being in town we expected a crowd so we called ours in and picked it up. Staff were polite and prompt. Decor/Ambiance (C+) : Pretty basic. Lots of corrugated tin and metal chairs. Well lit building with a large alfresco dining area as well. Cleanliness (B+) : Height of lunch so it was a bit crowded, but the staff was doing a good job at keeping up. Value (B-) : We split a two meat entree (turkey and burnt ends) and for our two sides we opted for a double order of beans. It was a fair amount of food but $25 for a lunch plate was skirting the line in my opinion. But again, it is BBQ and we all know the state of the economy these days. Location (B+) : No traffic to fight. East highway access. Parking lot could've been larger as there is no off-site parking available currently. Food: (B+) : As I mentioned, we had burnt ends, turkey, and beans. The turkey, while smoky and flavorful, was too moist. I know, I know. "Too moist!?" Who is this idiot, the Goldilocks of the amateur food review set. But it was so wet that it was on the cusp of being slimy. Again, the flavor was on point so it's likely just a personal preference for texture on my palates part. The beans on the other hand were perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. I was dubious about pineapple in my bbq beans but now I'm wondering why everyone isn't doing it. The bbq sauce was the perfect amount of sweet and smoky with a subtle hint of apple. The rock star was most definitely the burnt ends. They were an A+. Perfectly marbled choice cut of smokey deliciousness that quite literally melted in my mouth. Fantastic! Summation: I'm not sure why Scott's isn't on everyone's lips as a top contender in the KC BBQ scene, but I'm here to tell you that if you haven't tried it you are doing yourself a disservice. We are looking forward to going back and trying the ribs and of course another helping of those bodacious burnt ends.
