I really loved that half the menu is vegan, so I could enjoy plant-based food while my wife got to eat fish. The shishito peppers are a nice starter and can be made without butter if you ask for it. For vegan rolls, the server recommended we get the Cowgirl, which was my favorite and tasted close to a cheeseburger. The Prince Roll was also very good, and closer to traditional sushi flavors, with eggplant tempura to mimic unagi and avocado in the middle. This chain in general is awesome, and I am super excited that they have opened in the Phoenix area finally. I went on a weeknight during their first week in business, and it was clear there were some kinks they were still working out, but I could also tell that the management really care about success and this place is going to be 5 stars soon. Managers came around regularly, and there was a whole cast of team members that made sure water glasses were full, plates were taken away, etc. The service is really good, even if there were some hiccups with timing that they are wokring out. The wait time for things was pretty excessive (my friend waited over 20 minutes for her cocktail and our food took close to a half hour), but the wait is worth it because the food is so good. Everything here is good. I've seriously never had a bad item. ("Here" meaning the chain, as it was one of my favorite places in Austin.) I love the expansive vegan menu, which is seriously as good as the non-vegan items. (Do not sleep on the Cowgirl - that is insanely good!) Drinks are good, too. I had the Blue-tini, which was less sweet than I expected (a good thing), and it went down a little TOO easy. My friend did the cucumber jalapeno margarita, and it was very drinkable and not too spicy, despite the fresh jalapenos in it. They also have a pretty robust happy hour menu - and it's happy hour all the way through February 26! I even got to take four happy hour-priced rolls home for my husband at the end of my meal. Crazy good value! It seems to get pretty busy as the night goes on, so it depends on the vibe you're looking for. Thank you for being our favorite place with vegan options in the Phoenix Metro area! We were spoiled for years living elsewhere with vegan food before returning to the valley, and while there's some decent all-vegan restaurants, Blue Sushi just has them beat with their vegan side of the menu. Why? Great combinations of textures, flavors and consistency. None of the typical, paltry, sad options like an avocado roll, no! We love the tofu lettuce wraps, the crunchy cabbage, vegan philly, and avo kaluna the most. I've only been to this place one time, but I'm kind of obsessed. I went for their happy hour, which is all day every day for the rest of February, I had a glass of Chardonnay- which was really good, miso soup, and a lion roll. The miso soup had a great mix of tofu, mushrooms, seaweed, and the flavor was great. My only complaint, would be the temperature - I'm a firm believer in HOT miso, and this was a tad lukewarm. The lion king roll was sooo good - and their ginger AND wasabi is worth mentioning as well! I'll be back REAL soon! Parking was a pain, there wasn't much in the garage so I'd probably spring for the $10 valet unless you want to hunt. read more

I started with a miso because a sushi place's miso really sets the tone for the whole meal. The miso was rich, not watered down like half of the places in Tempe so I had high hopes for the sushi. We are not fans of raw fish so we went with some fun rolls. The Hawaiian Roll was the most intriguing as it had mango in it and I love fish and fruits on the same dish. That roll deserved a 9/10. My favorite roll was the Crunchy Red Roll which in my eyes is a 10/10. It's a simple yet tasty roll and the beet crunch on the outside was really tying it together. You can tell a lot of care goes into picking the flavor profiles for each plate. We tried the charred, spicy edamame, the cucumber jalapeño margarita, the peach daiquiri, the Tataki Maki roll, Ebi, prince roll, and the Thai Hippie roll. This is our second time at blue sushi. This time I didn't care for it. I asked them if the special yellowtail sashimi and it was a little spicy but doable. It had Serrano peppers but very thinly sliced and I was forewarned. Then I ordered the salmon skin hand roll. Expecting a regular hand roll with smoked Bonita and daikon and carrot and big pieces of salmon skin. None of which was the case. Number one it was spicy number two it was cut up. Not in a cone. It had very little salmon skin in it a boatload of rice and the dipping sauce was extremely spicy. None of which I was forewarned about. Not only was it not a typical salmon skin hand roll, but I think these people are trying to get so fancy and use so little fish and cover it up with sauce that they are missing the mark on the true flavor of sushi by covering it up with sauces and spice. The seaweed salad had all this other stuff in it, which was very weird. Not a normal seaweed salad with just seaweed and cucumber and a wonderful sauce. But it had red lettuce and some other kind of lettuce that was very chewy so you couldn't really enjoy the flavor of the seaweed and the cucumber. The fish was good quality, but that is what you could get of it. There is not much fish in the sushi. I will probably not come back here again. Too fancy for my taste and way overpriced for what you get. read more

I'm originally from Omaha and am elated to finally have a Blue Sushi and Sake here in AZ! They just opened yesterday but from the minute you walk in, you're treated like long-lost family. I chose to celebrate my birthday here with my husband, son, and dear friend. They have happy hour all day until the end of Feb to celebrate the opening. Everything was fast, fresh, and delicious. Our server Hadder (sp?) was supremely attentive and had excellent suggestions including the rice cakes, tuna sashimi, and chocolate spring rolls. I've missed the crunchy LA roll (basically a California roll that shames all others that are lacking tempura and sweet chili sauce..) but we all left happy and fully satisfied.
