fried jalapeño poppers, el tataki roll

Amazing and top notch as always. High quality fish, with solid portions for everything.

Went on a date here and the ambiance is very sexy. Low lighting and instagramable decor. We came late and only had an hr to eat, and service was kind of slow. However the food was very good! I Mexican inspire roll that came deep fried but we got it 'natural' it had bacon, cream cheese, chicken and Monterey Jack. It was so sooo good. We also tried the tempura appetizer which was just okay. The margarita was fantastic!

Wow this restaurant is beautiful inside. Very modern and chic! Totally unexpected as the surrounding area and exterior are unassuming! I started with the cucumber salad. I'm glad I was warned it's large. It is hugely generous and has delicious slivers of crab and pieces of shrimp. Then I moved on to the Creamy Sake Roll. Wow!!! It is huge and beautiful! Basically accompanied by a side salad! They were so great about modifying this to my taste! I so appreciate when chefs are willing to play based on a customer's unique interests! I also got to try the salmon tempura! So good! Almost reminded me of tender calamari. So good and delicate! Service was lovely! Kasandra is so warm and welcoming, very attentive and prompt. Music was great! Ambiance stunning! Prices seem a bit on the high side but definitely worth trying given the unique twist, generous shareable portions, freshness, and overall experience! One salad and a roll and I am beyond full! My only suggestion would be to offer a few less expensive, smaller portioned options for people who love to sample multiple items or have a small appetite but truly the decor and overall experience here is one of casual elegance. Chef Elliott was so warm and clearly creative! Chefs aren't always so open to modifying their menu items but he said if I'm happy he's happy! Well, I'm happy! AND, if you're lucky enough to sneak a peak when he's in his groove, you might catch him dancing to the beat while he prepares your food! Manager Julio is just lovely. Shared a bit about the history of the restaurant and noted he has several establishments locally. I look forward to trying the others! The happy hour menu here is ample also so as great excuse to stop by for happy hour or an early dinner!

JoJo must have this and Viva Las Vegas

The viva Las Vegas was my most favorite food that we tried there on our first visit to the restaurant. While our server was very nice, prepare to wait a really long time for your food. The server apologized a few times and said they were short staffed. If you are willing to wait quite a while, like close to an hour, the food is quite delicious. The restaurant is very clean. The options were so many. I suggest getting all your food at once. We delayed and waited again for the extra Rolls. Which were still tasty. We were in good company so we just chatted all evening with our friends.

Drove from Los Angeles to Arizona for my sons 32nd bday dinner. He recommended this place for sushi. From the front of the house to the server was exceptional. The rolls we ordered were all super delicious! My daughter ordered some type of pineapple cocktail which had a very funky aftertaste almost like a band-aid and the ribeye teriyaki was full of fat I almost gagged. Makes me wonder if the cooks knew what they were serving because they put a load of bell peppers on top of it. The girls did an awesome job by surprising my son for his bday. Side note they don't offer nothing complimentary for bday desert. So sorry I have to give you a 4 star

This place only accepts reservations for larger groups. Luckily we were seated quickly. The atmosphere is great, some of the rolls are weird, but that was why we came. We started with jalapeño poppers then got a Mango roll, El Tataki roll and Carne Asada roll. I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary and to my surprise they brought us ice cream with a crazy candle at the end. We enjoyed our experience and had lots of leftovers for the next day.

Charge for eel sauce? Not taking the gross marg off the bill? Also, it was a celebratory lunch and I didn't want to ruin the mood.

I hate leaving bad reviews. This is the 3rd time I've been to this place, maybe 4th. Anyway, we were the only people there as it was an odd time. Ordered a spicy watermelon marg for my daughter and a lime margarita for myself. I asked if they could do a Grand Marnier floater on my marg. Server was confused. I said, they just drizzle the top with Grand Marnier. Get the drinks. The watermelon marg was not good. I flagged her down and said, you know we've been here before and this Marg has always been a hit but this one tastes off. It's too "watermelon'ish". She replies "it's a watermelon margarita". I know! We've had them several times and this one isn't right. She said, "it's a WATERMELON margarita". I think we offended her. So I said, just bring a Diet Coke. We order. I get the chicken yakisoba, I ask that they put extra cabbage in it. Extra, extra cabbage please. If you have to charge me extra for the cabbage, that's fine! We get three rolls and ask for eel sauce please! Here is my bill. I was charged for a shot of Grand Marnier- which clearly wasn't in there. I was charged $3.75 for veggies and there was maybe ONE piece of cabbage. I was also charged $1.75 for eel sauce. WHAT? We were celebrating a career victory and April knew, but they literally sat a family with two kids in a high chairs beside us. Keep in mind. The entire restaurant was EMPTY. April brings the thingy to pay and stands over my shoulder waiting and staring at my guests. Literally stands there while I try to figure out a tip. No apologies. No offers to make anything right. I'm so bummed as the previous experiences have been great. Maybe it's the shift? In any event, I won't be back sadly.

Beautiful restaurant! Very modern and loved the vibes. Our waiter checked up on us regularly and shared his favorite appetizers, we ended up picking the jalapeño firecrackers and they were delicious. We tried a couple different dishes during our visit. I got to say I was impressed with the ceviche, haven't had a good ceviche in a long time. Perfect for a date night, we did a couples date night and enjoyed the open bar and having so many drink options. We will be adding this to our date night rotation!

Everything was so good from the appetizer to the sushi! They have so many rolls it was hard to decide which to get! We will definitely be back to try more!

Ordered take out here a few times, really good specialty rolls. I love the combination of flavors and they are consistent with the quality. Can't order here often because it's far from me and $20/roll, but they are addicting! They do take a while to be ready and charge for take out over the phone, so I'd be patient and have your card ready if you are not dining in.

We just left after eating there for my brothers birthday and it was the worst experience we've had there. The fact that I'm even taking the time to leave this review is crazy because I normally just brush off bad experiences. We had been there a few more times before this and everything had gone great but the server today was definitely not it. Her name was Abril. From the get go I requested strawberries for my baby since he's always a little fuzzy at restaurants. They never came. Once our food came out my moms order was wrong. There were no apologies she took it and we all ate. Not once did she check in to let us know the status of her food. Finally my mom told her to just cancel it since everyone was done eating. She said she couldn't since it was already made and then went and got it for her, meaning the sushi had been sitting there ready she just didn't bring it until we asked again. After that she completely ignored us. My sister went and flagged her down to ask that they come sing to my brother, again about 15 mins passed and nothing. I flagged down the manager and explained everything. Still took another 10 mins or so for them to finally come sing. The manager was nice and apologized but not after making us wait forever to be charged. Won't be going back there again unfortunately.

    receipt.

Horrible service from Abril C , since we got sat down service was not good we asked for a side of strawberries for my nephew and she said she'd see what she'd do and never brought them or apologized we weren't asking for them for free we were gonna pay for them. Then we ordered a sushi and asked for no sauce on it and it was brought out wrong that wasn't the waitress's fault but the way she went about it was, she took the plate and said she'd get it remade we waited about 20-30 mins for it and nothing it was a party of 9 and all the other people finished eating in the time we waited when we asked to cancel it she said it was already made so it wasn't able to be cancelled she then proceeded to leave and came back with it immediately and we watched her get it from where the make the sushi it had already been sitting. after that everything went downhill it seems once she knew she messed up we started getting ignored we needed sauce and stuff and not once did she come in and check in with us we also had a birthday and we asked if they could sing and once again she took long to come do it, no apology, no communication, nothing. we talked to a manager about it he was nice but with her finishing the transaction and everything she was very standoffish, as well as i overheard her telling her manager we just didn't wanna pay unacceptable behavior from her part. this is the check from the people who had the issue with the sushi.

Super yummy and cute vibes place! Perfect for date night, celebrations or family dinner! Sushi was flavorful and spiced to perfection. Love that they gave us ponzu to balance the flavors. The server Valerio was very friendly and attentive. I took my friend for her bday and he respected that she didn't want to be sung to. The drinks were reasonably priced! We liked our mojitos! The edamame was some of the best I've ever had! Next time I go will be a date night! Glad there wasn't a wait either on a Friday night. They Do NOT take reservations so take that in mind when taking a much larger party!

I've been countless times over the many years and I will always find myself coming back. I had it again recently after a while with 2 friends who've never been before and the seared tuna sashimi, sicilian hamachi, and surf n turf roll was delectable. the fish and sushi roll slices also seemed to be so much more bigger than I remembered, the portion sizes were hefty! I always love introducing my friends to kuka because of how good it is, and I have to tell them that after trying kuka no sushi restaurant will ever compare again lol sometimes the service is a little slow, so it's good to remember and get all your requests first thing in, or in the past I honestly have just gone up to the server myself and asked for whatever I needed. it's not super deterring for me though due to the amazing food that they have. I can't really speak for the quality of their non-sushi items however, as I do believe focusing on their sushi is the best way to eat here!

The space feels stylish and contemporary, with a sleek atmosphere that makes it perfect for both a casual dinner and a special night out. The menu is truly avant-garde! Creative, innovative, and full of intriguing options. That said, I have to admit I felt a little overwhelmed at first and wasn't sure what to order because everything sounded so interesting. In the end, I chose the Omakase Dinner "Buzz," and I absolutely loved the concept. It includes miso soup, 9 pieces of nigiri, a mini poke, and a 5-piece roll -- such a fantastic idea if you're undecided and want to try a bit of everything! I think it's a splendid option, especially for first-timers or anyone who wants a complete tasting experience without having to choose individual items. If I could change one small thing, it would be the roll selection. I wish there were an option to choose from the specialty rolls instead of only the basic ones. That extra flexibility would make the experience even better. Overall, the quality of the food was very good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. It's definitely a place worth visiting, and I'll certainly be back to try the curry and ramen next time!

The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. Reviews are very good and so we gave it a try on a Saturday evening. When we arrived there were 2 people eating at the sushi counter, otherwise it was empty. During our time there another couple came in, so it was not busy and easy to get a table. The server was very friendly and service was great. For that I'll push my rating to 4 stars. For me, this place is personally 3.5/5. Everything was decent but nothing I would rave about. And that might just be me, because people love this place in other reviews. It was possibly just a bunch of little things that made me think it's just okay. I thought the texture of sushi rice was a bit too soft, I know it's sticky rice but I felt like it was a little over cooked and too soft. I also thought both of my rolls tasted exactly the same. Which thankfully I thought were good tasting. The stuffed jalapeños were definitely a miss, they were so under fried so mostly a mush of ingredients in a jalapeño. And initially I liked the karaage but had a couple of tough pieces, so overall that was just okay. Miso soup was solid. And I realize that the appetizers are cooked in the back and not by sushi chef, and people rave about the chef. However like I said, both rolls seemed pretty similar tasting and one was supposed to be more spicy. All very standard flavors, like I would expect from AYCE sushi. I think I'm just looking for more delicate flavors with higher quality pieces of fish. I likely should have tried some of the special items listed on the rotating items board near the sushi bar. Next time we go back I'll try sitting at the sushi bar and trying some speciality items. People have said this is the best way to enjoy this place. We will likely come back during a lunch or happy hour special, if I like it better and I can upgrade my review I'd be happy to give this small, local family run business all the stars.

What they do well: cheap and fast. When I was there for lunch, it was AYCE for $19.99. You really can't beat that. The service is solid, though not stellar. The selection is pretty good, too! The restaurant is also well maintained. It's always clean and the decor is exactly what you'd expect for Japanese cuisine. Opportunity: the sushi has been falling apart all three times I've been there. It reminds me a little of what it might be like if i made it at home myself and didn't get the sushi rice right. That doesn't adversely affect the flavors, but it's annoying that I can never seem to dip it into the soy sauce and get it into my mouth without losing half the roll. Their service model also makes it so items from the fryer or other appetizers sometimes come out after the sushi rolls. There's no effort to synchronize the back kitchen staff and the sushi bar. This isn't necessarily an issue for me. I'm happy when there's food in front of me. But I could see others feeling like it's a disjointed approach and experience. Like I said, I'll be back. But if you're going to this place, make sure you're managing your expectations.
