I was introduced to Blue Toque when I first came to Fernie a while back. Each time, I visit Fernie I have to eat here. The food is so fresh, created with so much love and it is so different from the other breakfast places. Everything I have had here is simply delicious. You can tell each ingredient is freshly harvested or hand made to create such satisfying meals. Our server was also super pleasant. Very consistent service each time too. Sunday May 24th was another perfect day on our road trip. We had breakfast at the Blue Toque in the the old railway station. This is organic home grown food and coffee. We sat at a table on what would have been the old passenger platform with an astounding view of the mountain and the railroad track less than 50 feet away. A train even came by loaded with coal! The setting is perfect. The service great, the food is exactly what you want the coffee is sublime. Fernie is what you want. Get here. read more

If I could give it less stars I would. Probably the rudest people there are in Canada. Only reason it's voted a good breakfast place is because it's the only one in town. Get a bagel get a coffee just find somewhere else to do it especially if you would like to enjoy yourself and not get talked to like trash from the what I assume was the owner and the staff. Had a fantastic lunch here on Friday. My spouse was recently diagnosed with several food sensitivities and they were extremely accommodating and made lots of suggestions. The general approach was - find what you want and we'll adapt it to make it work! I had the salmon sandwich, with apple and cinnamon and it was divine. The quinoa side salad was big enough to be a meal on its own. Excellent place for lunch! My husband had the pulled pork and grilled cheese sandwich and loved it. I had one of their bowls. Awesome! So many flavour nuances! So great! Find the train station and you've found a good place to eat. Wear your patience hat though as ordering and receiving food can take a while. They warn you that everything is made fresh in the kitchen and that it can take extra time. Pam the waitress gets my admiration for her calm coolness when the order for the table beside us got lost in the kitchen and the patrons had to wait an extra 20 minutes for it to be made. I just hope the owner/manager comped some part of the meal, but we were finished and left before we found out. Lamb burger $14 was moist and flavorful. Large Beet Salad $9.50 was an excellent deal. Canadian Eggs $12.95 had the whole deal of eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, and fortunately not overly greasy. A little bit too much laid-back atmosphere for such a busy full house, but if you've got the time and want some decent food, Blue Toque Diner is a good bet. You may even have a train chug-chug outside the window if you're lucky! Take a book to read while you wait for your meal though. Cheers! read more

A restaurant in an old train station? I don't care if they serve sawdust, I'm going! I think it used to be an art gallery(?) and still has art and amazing artsy things on display. Very small seating, our group of 8 was split in half so their small kitchen could get our food out in a timely fashion. THE FOOD. From what I could see, everything was made there, from salsa to jam, and there were a lot of GF options. (Note: they couldn't guarantee no contact, my celiac friends...). Best place for fresh, hot, amazing breakfast/brunch IMO. Small kitchen and dining area but everything is prepared fresh and when ordered. Be prepared to sometimes wait a little bit as it can get busy. If you are looking for gluten free, vegan or dairy free dining options..this is the pace. My favourite gluten free breakfast in the " queen Elizabeth". Two poached eggs, sweet potato, Kale, mushroom, onion served with a nut based hollandaise sauce and roasted baby potatoes and fruit. Late breakfast on my last day in Fernie! I went because the Soul Food bowl came highly recommended. Ordered the breakfast tostada instead. Tomato chutney and cilantro sour cream did not disappoint. Amazing breakfast menu and great coffee in a beautiful old building. Caliente Canadian benedict and brunch tarte were both tasty and nicely presented. Well I had the smallest and most expensive sandwich in my life! It was good ..but hey $20 for a very small Sandwich?.The waitress suggested we have a half portion of the accompanying potatoes or fruit but didn't tell us extra dollar charge even though half serving of each..Also didn't tell us extra $2 for gluten free bread..good bread but very small slices,.So one sandwich totaled $20.!! If we had been told about the extra charges I would have appreciated it..but this just felt sneaky and underhanded.I personally would not support this restaurant again. First restaurant experience we had coming up from Missoula to Canada...not very nice. I'm Canadian so was particularly keyed into to this Canadian service...I grew up working in a 24 hr diner and always treated people well ..this was not treatment customers deserve.Sorry Blue Toque ..good food, prices a little high and service optimally needs to be polite and honest. read more

The service coupled with the atmosphere makes for an amazing experience. I would highly recommend this gastro bistro. It was an adventure for my palette! The menu offers A LOT of variety which was challenging to choose from when I was so hungry. The chef did NOT dissapoint me and my appetite however.
