You have to really impress me to get 5 stars but Blue Water got them. Maybe the weeknight weather, eating outside, good company, good wine and attentive hostess all helped. Not to mention our waitress who was witty and quick and helped us with our choices. Way to go, 5 stars for service alone...we waited for 25 minutes in a small area where you can bring your own wine, open and start to pour and enjoy the evening ...then came the food. We were all interested in trying the appetizers. They did not disappoint. The calamari was fresh fried perfectly not overdone, crispy on the outside tender on the inside. The New England clam chowder was outrageously delicious. Creamy, butter spiced just right, with no one spice overpowering another, ample amount of tender clams. BTW their chowder won second in the nation....(waitress told us the competition was held in New England so guess who won). We also had the blue crab dip, it was full of crab chunks and served wtih homemade potato chips...yum. We wanted to try the lobster fritters but they were out of them. I had the Dockside Seafood for my meal...chunks of lobster, scallops, shrimp, clams and penne pasta in a light white wine sauce...very good. We also decided to try the gelato and the chocolate cake. Go for the gelato...which you can get at any time of the day. Want to go back and try breakfast some day. Three others of our party got the crab cakes with lobster mashed potatoes and were very satisfied. If you have to wait here just bring your wine and enjoy the evening. read more

The service was great however the food was below average. I got a bowl of the New England clam chowder and the steamed clams. The chowder had the consistency of mayonnaise.. Way too thick and I could only eat half the bowl because it immediately hurt my stomach. For someone with a salt tooth, the steamed clams and garlic bread were so over the top salty I could not eat it. There are better places on the island to get seafood for better prices. read more

This place is always hit or miss for me. Every other time it is fantastic. FOOD: GOOD: Crab cakes, chowders (both), breakfasts, are great. Surf and Turf is great if correct. BAD: I got hives from the citrus vinagrette which is their house vinagrette. The Absolut Seafood did not taste like fresh seafood. The shrimp were not edible. Surf and Turf - filet was supposed to be medium rare and came out rare and also cold. Crab cake was great. Lobster mashed potatoes were good but warm. First visit. Note it's BYOB with no corkage fee. Manhattan clam chowder was good but not outstanding. The crab cake dinner had a good size serving. Filet mignon was priced like a steakhouse but not steakhouse quality. Since Stefano's is our favorite Long Beach Island restaurant, by a long lead, we were disappointed one evening when Stefano's reported a long wait if we did not have reservations. So last August, we went to Blue Water Cafe, also owned by the people who own Stefano's. What a disappointment! The place is SO noisy. There was so much noise of crashing dishes coming from the kitchen that we figured the kitchen staff was competing to see who could drop, and break, the most plates at one time. We had a member of our party who is allergic to bay leaves who asked whether his order could be prepared without using them. He was rudely told that the food was prepped when it came to Blue Water Cafe and they could not make any changes. Considering that almost everything that he liked on the menu seemed to have bay leaves, he was left to stopping at Wawa up the street after we left Blue Water so he could get something he could eat. he sat there and twiddled his thumbs while everyone else ate what they considered to be mediocre dinners. The staff was just as abrupt in other requests or conversations. Not one staffer seemed to be in a good mood serving their customers. We suggest that the owners send in some Mystery Diners to check the whole experience here. It was an odd evening and not enjoyable whatsoever. read more

I can only say that this is a hidden gem on Long Beach Island (middle of the island) if you are looking for seafood. Highly recommend the crab cakes which I had, and my wife had a sea bass which was cooked to perfection. What makes it special is the preparation of sauces, presentation, and great service. If you dont want to wait an 1.5 hours this is your place causal atomsphere that allows for indoor or outdoor dining. Its rules over Lobster Claw, Mud City, and Beach Haven Fishery. Trust me you wont be sorry if you try the Blue Water Cafe!!! Its BYOB so it saves you money compared to Black Whale. read more

Very much just ok and would definitely not seek this place out. The New England Clam Chowder was excellent but my crab cake sandwich was very sub-par. It tasted dry and flavorless, and my friends had much the same reactions to their meals. Calamari was just ok as well. Blue Water is your run of the mill American and Seafood joint. The place is small and cozy and the staff are very friendly. My boyfriend got the surf and turf burger, huge, juicy, delicious, and satisfying. I ordered the calamari and cup of chowder. I would have gotten a bowl of the chowder had I know how goddamn good it was. Highly recommend! The calamari? No so much. It was undercooked and had a rubbery texture that I was not a fan of. I would return to try some other menu items but in general don't expect to be blown away by all of their dishes, this is not a white tablecloth restaurant by any means; you get what you pay for. read more

The hostesses was very welcoming. We were seated inside rather quickly, and the restaurant was clean and inviting. There was plenty to choose from, we started with soup and salads, all were good, the lobster bisque and clam chowder were awesome. I ate here last night with my family and we had exceptional service from Josh. The manager was also very friendly and just a really good person. I wanted to write this review for anyone who may have second guessed coming here like I did for even a millisecond based on a previous reviewers claims that this place was racist. I must say that we are a mixed family I a black Latina and my husband Caucasian with our 2 bi racial children and not once were we made to feel different than any of the other guests dining here. Everyone from the hostess, to our sever who again was awesome, to the manager who checked in on us were hands down the friendliest and most courteous on the island. Went for breakfast with 3 adults (one pregnant ) and a 2 year old. Called ahead and was told there was a 10 minute wait. Upon arrival 5 minutes later we were told 25 minutes. We walked by and saw many open tables, 2 being a 6 person table. It was 945 on a Thursday. They refused to seat us incase a larger party showed up. They refused to make an "exception" and when asked to see a manager they told us there was no manager there. They don't have a manger on site during the day. Not really sure how a restaurant is run without someone there to make decisions because now they are getting a bad review and losing out on money. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. Two words: Graham Slam. Their Graham cracker gelato is incredible and I have already planned my next visit back for more. Their award winning New England clam chowder deserves every award too. So rich and tasty and flavorful. The shrimp and scallops risotto was very good. My sister in law had a Tuscany chicken with a very tasty sauce. She also loved the Manhattan clam shower because it is still so good but less heavy. It was an overly indulgent and glorious meal. I'm surprised to see such a low overall rating for BWC. Yes, there's usually a wait here, but that's because there's limited seating and the location pretty much can't be beat. Right on the BLVD with a great view of the bay sunset. It's a BYOB and the seafood is always great. Sit outside if possible- a totally different atmosphere than inside. read more

Biggest thumbs up: The New England Clam Chowder gets 5 stars alone!! That stuff is amazing! I had the Milano salad which was pretty good, they use a really good and strong bleu cheese, but they put too much on there, so it was totally overwhelming. My biggest thumbs down from our visit was: we sat by the door they don't use, and there were a CRAZY amount of flies, so we spent the whole lunch swatting flies away from our food. Came here for a Saturday morning breakfast just after checkout. We were seated right away on te outside patio even with a group of 15. The staff moved swiftly and we're very attentive. I had the lobster omlette and a side of Taylor ham, everything was delish! I also tasted pancakes and sausage from Neighbors and they were equally tasty. Got the lobster roll, hold the mayo; and it was truly a bellyaching lb of lobster across a perfectly toasted bun. Arrived for lunch at 1:15. There were six empty tables outside (two, six tops and four, four tops). The surly, sixteen year old "hostess" told us she only had seats available inside. When I asked why she said we didn't have enough people in our party to eat outside. When I mentioned the six empty tables she just shrugged. Food and service was amazing. The lobster bisque was beyond good! Definitely should have gotten a bowl of it instead of a cup! We had two of their specials and both were delicious! Our waitress was very attentive so much so she had napkins at our table before I even noticed my sons mess. The only reason for 4 stars is the fact that there is only one restroom for both male and female customers. Gave this a try last night. Food and service was good. Unfortunately, the hostess was another story. When we got there, we put our name on the waiting list and were told it was an hour wait. We checked back 30 minutes later to see what the status was and were told 20 minutes. We checked back about 40 minutes later and realized she had already sat 2 other parties of 5 who were below us on the waiting list! Not cool at all!! Definitely recommend this place. Great location with easy parking (for cars and bikes). My girlfriend and I came in the middle of the week around 10 and got sat right away. We both got the cinnamon roll French toast and it was delicious, I was still a little hungry even after an order of home fries that was very generous. She was full, so it's not that tiny. After a not-so-great meal the night before at a different place, I was so pleased to sit in the cute New Englandy feeling Blue Water Cafe. Menu had nice choices, good kids options and is BYOB. I had one of the TOP Bowls of Manhattan Clam Chowder I have ever had. It was a huge, steaming hot, chunky, flavorful bowl and I devoured it. WOW! Kids all had good meals and ate it all up -(Burger, grilled cheese, chicken fingers) - although chicken fingers were priced at $9.95 which is too high. We had a chopped salad which was super fresh and tasty and we all loved it. Wife had a fresh mahi mahi sandwich and said the roll and fish were amazing. I had crab penne which had HUGE chunks of crabmeat and tons of taste. I woulda added a bit more penne to it but overall was a yummy dish and we had our own summer ales!! looking forward to coming here again - gelato looked great too. read more

Stopped here for dinner last night and had a very enjoyable meal. BYOB with an ice bucket and glasses set up in an old row boat in the outside waiting area. Be prepared to wait. No reservations. But the view of the bay is nice and we got there around 7 pm so it wasn't too backed up. Had the crab dip which was very tasty. It's served with homemade potato chips which are also delicious but I wasn't a fan of the two together. Next time I'll ask for flatbread (which came with the iceberg wedge).
