My husband and I went here for our "date night" while on vacation with kids and parents. I wouldn't say it had a great "date" atmosphere, and the dining room is a bit crowded, but everything was nice and clean and the food was great. I saw on the menu that they were the chowderfest champions (a big honor on the island) and I tried the New England Clam Chowder and it was awesome, maybe the best I've ever had and I'm a big fan. My husband got one of their salads which was much more than your average pre-dinner salad with delicious dressing and walnuts and gorgonzola. We both had the lobster roll for dinner and it was very good. It wasn't as great as lobster rolls I've had further North but very good nonetheless. We were very happy with our meal. Note that this is a BYOB like many places on the island. Also, small thing, I wasn't a huge fan of the fact that there's a urinal in the unisex bathroom. A good friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint! Staff was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about menu. The appetizers were amazing, and the Lobster Bisque and award-winning Clam Chowder were two of the BEST soups I have ever had! The entrees were a large size, and were cooked perfectly. Just in response to Cheryl D. -- the black goo is uncooked roe. According to what I found online: "Black Stuff: An uncooked or undercooked female lobster may be harboring eggs, also known as roe or lobster caviar. These eggs prior to cooking appear thick, shiny and black, and found throughout the tail. If you have cooked your lobster and you still see the black stuff, cook them longer and the black stuff will turn into red." So, a) your lobster was undercooked b) a manager in a seafood restaurant should have known that and c) they should have given your $ back for undercooked food. read more

Fabulous place for al fresco dining! The blue crab dip, with chips was awesome. But the lobster rolls are the best I've had all summer. They rival those from Maine, the gold standard. Been to Blue Water Cafe, LBI 4 times. Positives: -BYO. -Decent selection of seafood. Negatives: -Too pricey for very average food. Recently ordered Salmon, Halibut Sandwich and one of the specials. -Noise level - very loud. -Wait staff. We were waited on 3 times by the same male waiter. Mixed review. the good news is we were greeted very nicely at the door seated immediately service was professional food was delivered promptly. The bad news food was mediocre at best small portions salty and extremely expensive. I ordered filet mignon steak with lobster. there was three little pieces of lobster from a claw of which I normally throw the claw piece out. the filet mignon was cooked as I ordered but it was definitely a low-grade piece of beef. the zucchini boat did not float it was supposed to have scallops shrimp crab meat and lobster with cheese the only thing we could really find was some crab meat and a whole lot of cheese would probably go to Wawa next time if I'm hungry. read more

Came here for lunch for the first time today, it wasn't very busy and we were seated outside immediately. They had a decent sized menus but I wish they'd have a bit more meat options. Our food was great and the staff seemed very happy to be there. They offered to take photos for us and were very quick to clear our table, and they didn't seemed to mind we were staying long after we paid. The food isn't to outrageously priced, a meal averaging around 16 dollars, I don't know if the pricing has changed, in some other reviews people were saying around 15 dollars a meal. I have dined here many times over the years. Food was fine, nothing spectacular. Most disappointing was the half hearted attempts at Covid 19 guidelines. Tables were definitely not arranged so patrons were a minimum of 6 feet apart. We were seated within a foot of another table with someone actively coughing. Regular bottle of ketchup on the table,not single use packets. Staff was polite when spoken to about the issues but did not appear to alter any policies. Today, I ordered the millionaires meatloaf which in times past was served with a lobster mashed potatoes full of lobster. This time around, the meatloaf meal had nearly no lobster in comparison. Casual dining at fine dining prices. Arrived here for a celebration dinner on a busy Saturday night because it was the only place without a wait and as a blue water sailor, I must confess that I was attracted by the name. The teak and holly tables on the patio are a nice nautical touch that is probably lost on most patrons. This place is very casual... anything more than shorts and t-shirts and you're pretty much overdressed, though you'd think it was higher-end based on the pricing. Food was tasty, but arrived somewhat cold. Our service while pleasant, was a bit lacking... no drink refills or napkins. Despite being on LBI, the prices are overly ambitious... around $35 and up for most one dish entrees. $37 for a bowl of seafood risotto? Come on people. read more

Although this restaurant would normally get a better rating my last experience there has brought it down. We were thoroughly disappointed. For $30 plus we got a dry sauce less piece of halibut the size of a kid's portion and another guest got a vegetable pasta dish that had so much water in it it resembled ministrone soup. I cannot express how disappointed I was in this evening's dining experience. I ordered their "award winning lobster bisque" and found it to be surprisingly watery, bland and devoid of any pieces of seafood. Not quite award-winning, in my book, and certainly NOT worth the calories. My main course ($35.99) was a special of shrimp stuffed with crabmeat accompanied by lobster mashed potatoes. The dish arrived with three, over-cooked shrimp which immediately separated from a topping that DID NOT taste of crab but rather fillers. The mashed potatoes were just plain everyday run-of-the-mill potatoes and weren't served very warm at that. But the absolute worst was dealing with the flies that continuously swarmed around, landing all over the food and us. AND WE WERE EATING INSIDE!!! Although it was very obvious the insects were a huge problem, the issue was blatantly ignored by everyone serving, and the door remained wide open. To be perfectly honest, I was embarrassed that I had chosen Blue Water. My experience was awful, and my two friends didn't fare much better. I am sure LBI has better places to offer. read more

We were looking forward to a nice evening out and decided to go to Blue Water based on other Yelp reviews. The evening started out nicely. Despite a 30 minute wait, we had done our homework and brought a bottle of wine. On second thought, we should have brought two. Things went downhill from there. We ordered the award winning clam chowder only to find it incredibly salty. And I love salt! My husband ordered a lobster roll--but frankly he's had better out of a food truck in Washington, DC. I decided to splurge and ordered the 1.5 pound steamed lobster. To their credit, the lobster mashed potatoes were delicious. The claws were fine, but when I opened the lobster tail---OMG! I mean, I've seen the poop track before and have eaten my share of lobsters--green goo, roe and all. But the inside of this lobster looked like the freakin Exxon Valdez! The entire cavity was filled with black ooze that just coated the tail! One look from the waitress and she immediately got the manager. Unfortunately, instead of offering to get us a new one or offer us a discount, the manager just told us to "scrape it off". When I asked him if he knew what it was, he said "no". I decided to take a pass. When the waitress tried to get the manager to agree to a discount, he refused and offered us a slice of pie instead. This was my second time at Blue Water Cafe and it exceeded all of my expectations from my visit a year ago when I stumbled upon the restaurant with some friends. Ever since, my boyfriend and I have been talking up the restaurant to my parents and told them that we have to dine there during our stay in LBI. After being disappointed by other establishments, we were nervous that it would not be the fantastic meal we remembered. Our anxiety was eased and we all agree that we would make the two hour trip back to LBI just for this restaurant. You can sip on your BYOB beverages in comfort while waiting to be seated. Must give a special shout to the Seafood Boat that I could not resist ordering again. Be sure to substitute the garlic mashed potatoes for lobster mash. All were more than pleased with the Crab Nachos and their entrees. And of course you must end with some of there gourmet gelato. read more

The seating area is small and the restaurant does not take reservations so keep that in mind. That being said, I went there on a Saturday night for dinner with a friend and we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated for a party of 2. The staff is friendly and the food is amazing! Save room for gelato after dinner!! I will definitely go there again. read more

Blue water cafe is definitely one of me and my wifes favorite stops when coming down the shore. We actually celebrated our anniversary at the end of May and we were definitely satisfied! The lobster bisque was great as well as the salmon dish that I had as my entree. The addition of the gelato bar this year was great too! read more

We visited for dinner. They are BYOB and will offer wine glasses if you need. They get very busy very early so be prepared to wait. If you choose to sit inside, it is small, noisy, and bustling. Service was very good. They do not offer bread for the table and entrees do not come with salad. Two of our four entrees (crab cakes and filet mignon) did not come with a vegetable either (unless you count mashed potato as a vegetable). The entrees were all delicious (quite delicious) and were reasonable portions but without a salad or bread, we found them to be rather overpriced. The guacamole appetizer came with a very small portion of guac (maybe 1/3 of a cup); not enough to share. Everything was cooked fresh and prepared perfectly. The vast majority of the food is seafood. If your child likes seafood, they might be fine eating here. I would not recommend Blue Water for a picky child. They do not seem to have a kids menu (or we were not offered one). Desserts were fabulous. The coconut cake was a favorite among our table as was the key lime pie and the chocolate lava cake. They do have a take out menu. We will not eat in again but we would stop in take dessert home. read more

The food was great but very over priced. There is only one bathroom and the place is very cramped. Inside it is freezing. It was an extremely long wait to get in. There are very dumb waiters who do not understand and know orders, as they messed mine up multiple times. After waiting in the long line for the one bathroom I opened the door only to find VOMIT IN THE SINK!!!! The dim lighting and the smell of sea food made me nauseous. The two stars are for the food only, not the place itself. We will probably come back but only for the food. read more

SALTY, SALTY, SALTY! I know we are by the sea, but if you have high blood pressure think carefully before eating here. Clam chowder: Cape Cod has nothing to worry about. Overly thick, and way over salted. It could be good if it was less thick and they cut out 75% of the salt. I ordered the "surf and turf" hamburger, with shrimp on top. I ordered the burger medium, it arrived way beyond well done. Shoe leather. The top of the burger had some sort of paste on it that was so salty that it was inedible. Add the salty bay seasoned fries and you have a blood pressure cocktail. For the record I use salt and like it. But this was ridiculous. read more

I'm with Shannon B. on this one. (She wrote a recent review.) The Blue Water Cafe has excellent chowder and a really cool atmosphere. The bulk of the menu is pretty uninspired. I had a fish sandwich, which was fairly good, on my first visit. The next time around, I ordered one of the large dinner-size salads -- this was the one with shrimp and avocado. The shrimp and avocado were A-OK, but the greens underneath reminded me of what you can pluck out of a bin in a college dining commons. I can't say that this is a "good restaurant," but it's a place that I'd come back to at the drop of a hat for the chowder, cheery ambiance and BYOB policy. read more
