    Alum Creek Marina - Marina

We continuously go to alum creek, the last two times we've went out our boat has had problems…read morestarting while we were on the lake, and Rob, one of the owners has personally came out both times to assist us, diagnose the problem, and help us get it started. Great lake and great people!

Outdated online prices and weekend 3-hour minimum squeeze renters…read more The lake is beautiful, but the pricing tactics here are completely misleading.Their website lists the small fishing boat at a lower rate. When you get to the counter, the actual price is $65/hour for the absolute cheapest boat available. To make it worse, they squeeze weekend renters by forcing a strict 3-hour minimum rental. It drops to 2 hours on weekdays when fewer people are around. They also require a massive temporary card hold upfront. Even after the deposit was refunded our final actual rental total came to $140 with a military discount once gas and fees were added. Splitting that down the middle meant it still cost me $70 out of pocket for my half just to ride in the most basic aluminum boat available. Renters without a discount can expect to pay even more. Forcing an unnecessary third hour means paying for extra time you don't even want or need. Expecting small kids to go 3 hours without a restroom break is completely unrealistic. If you head back early the marina just pockets the cash for time you couldn't use. This feels like a rigid money grab designed to exploit weekend crowds who have no choice but to pay up. To be fair, the counter staff & dock crew was very nice and helpful, but they don't make the rules. We love the lake, but we will not rent here again.

The north area I went to today. Also large lots, boat ramp and docks, bathrooms, tables, shelter. A nice fountain and a historical marker. This is where the amusement park was, and a museum in town tells more about that and the history of the area. The center of a huge recreation area, with fishing and boating. And just the waterside lifestyle. Check it out.

There are two parking lots at Buckeye Lake State Park in Liebs Island. The one that I first parked…read moreat was the parking lot for the boat dock. So I parked and walked around a not-super-pedestrian-friendly part of the park and I wasn't impressed. But it's because I'm dumb and parked at the wrong parking lot! When I finally found out where regular people without boats should park, I had a grand time. The regular parking lot is at the entrance of a walking/biking path that winds it's way around Buckeye Lake. I suppose I could tell you how long the walking path is if I looked it up, but I'm not going to, so I'll just tell you that I walked for about 30 minutes in one direction and had to turn back and I hadn't reached the end. It's a long path. Along the way, you'll see cutely decorated houses, birds, turtles and the beautiful lake. It's a peaceful walk, and the path is wide and nicely paved, so it's big enough for everyone. There isn't a whole lot to do here if you don't have a boat. You can walk on the path, and sit on the benches that are located every so often along the path. There's a dive bar/restaurant located not too far from the boat dock. There are also a few signs and statues near the boat side of the park. Mostly, this park is here for you to just walk or sit and enjoy it.
