Nice clean quiet rooms. Convenient to stores and downtown. Will stay there again. So glad they weren't destroyed by the fire.

We came here knowing what to expect. A mono-hotel from the 70 s era. Our room is small compact and has all we need. I would ask for a modern shower head in the tub area. But it works. Easy check in. Here for 3 days to tour up n down the coast. All good. Update: We checked out and decided to return for an extra day in this part of Maine. Now our room is larger, king bed, in the new annex. Farther from the road and more quiet. Shower is better. Coffee maker is Kurig. Even better reasons to stay here again next time. I recommend. read more

My husband and I stayed here in July 2023. Everything was great! The owners and management were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with a microwave and fridge. Plus, you could open the windows for cross-ventilation, which was very nice. There is also a great restaurant right next door -- Tom's Mini Mart, which is part of a gas station. I know that is an unlikely place to find really good food, but trust me, it really is! We shared a clam plate and fries at night. It came with cole slaw and was delicious and enough for the two of us. The next morning, we got 2 of their breakfast sandwiches - made to order and really good. All was very reasonably priced. I'm in Machias a few times a year because I have family here. The bluebird is one of my favorite places to stay. It's very very affordable and an awesome location. They offer late check in and the staff is beyond wonderful. The rooms are quaint and definitely have that Maine feel. The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean! On my Sep2021 roadtrip thru Maine. I'm a real motel/cheap sleeps kind of traveler. The Bluebird was not what I expected after spending numerous nights in motels. They really have a semi Rosebud from Schitts Creek kind of vibe. It was noticeably updated. The rooms had new carpeting, fantastic pillows and best of all, a PHENOMINAL bed!! I had the best nights' sleep here. Check in was a breeze and so pleasant. They have the main bldg that you see from the highway, but two more in the back. I had rm139, a single king. The water was hot, the tub drained properly. The night I was there, it was almost totally booked, I did not hear a peep from anyone. I cannot recommend highly enough for anyone looking for a cheap, good sleep! Thanks so much! read more

Cute little hotel very central to town. The ceiling is low so careful if you are very tall. There is no kitchen but you do have a microwave. I utilized the outside grills as well. I was there for work for almost two weeks. Housekeeping was good. The bathroom was not well ventilated and the tub leaked. Some of my coworkers stayed at another hotel in town that had better amenities. All in all not a bad place. read more

5 stars for what it is. Not a new, trendy building by any means. But very clean and comfortable with courteous and helpful staff.

I am a bit of a hotel snob, but my parents were looking for an economical hotel and this one fit the bill. The inside of the rooms is much nicer than I expected and you can tell it has been newly renovated. We had rooms farther from the road so it was quiet and there is a nice field where you can walk your dogs. It's a definite plus that the motel is dog friendly and I don't believe they charge a fee for pets. For under $70/night, you get a large room, large bathroom, fridge, microwave, and flat screen tv. Most importantly, the room was spotless and the beds were comfortable. Machias is a cute town and I would recommend staying here. read more

Wonderful customer service. Great clean place. Microwave and mini fridge and coffee pot just what we need to get by. This is exactly what I enjoy when traveling, cozy comfortable and clean. Very central, go to Tom's Deli next door, excellent food and convenient walk. Out doorgrill was available. Looking forward to my next visit to this area, as we will definitely stay again. Unlike other reviewers, I am neither a hotel snob nor do I care that I can save 0.00001% with an AAA or AARP discount. If you want a mediocre hotel with no security whatsoever & no services whatsoever, than this is the place for you. First, let's talk about security. In the room we stayed in, even with door locks engaged, the door felt inadequately secured. Did the wind just blow it open? Well, no matter because that tiny door lock held it firmly in place so it wouldn't completely fly open! Not great for when you leave for the day. I suggest you bring ALL VALUABLES with you instead of leaving them in your hotel room. On the evening we checked in, my family and I noticed a parked pickup truck (still there the next day, so likely from an already checked in guest) with several rifles visible in their truck's in-cab gun rack. What's to stop this jâckãss from shooting everyone else in the hotel? (Note to local rednecks: at least hide your rifles and shotguns so someone can not just break the peanut-brittle glass in the back of your truck cab that is really the only barrier to stealing and possibly using your fully-loaded rifles that have no safety locks on them!) Nice security hotel management! Second, the discount. If you truly need, or feel you are entitled to, a 0.00001% discount because you are some cranky AARP member and must incessantly harass management until they give you that discount of 1/10 of 1/10 of 1/10 of a penny... then please let the family behind you check in first. We are tired from driving all day and just want to check in so we can go to sleep. By the way, original prices are WAAAAY too much, given this area and market. read more

Quite impressed with the room features, value during off-season, and customer service. The room is spacious and features up-to-date TVs. The customer service is the best I've experienced in quite awhile (warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable). When I checked in, the desk clerk helped to get me orientated with the area without promptly and provided firsthand information of what to do/see based on my interests, including lots of tidbits not found in my guidebook. I would return again and recommend to my family and friends. read more

Luckily we were able to get a room here due to every other Motel/Hotel BOOKED on Labor day weekend. Upon getting our key we checked out our room, Medium size, cozy, clean & secure. Only complaint would be bed was a little firm. Overall decent Motel for the money, beats sleeping on the side of the road. read more

Ok Hotel snobs, this is a motel..vintage style ala 50's ... With upgrades, but it is not the Ritz. If you want a chain "hotel" stay in Portland or Virginia. This is rural Maine, with well maintained motels, family owned and operated who take pride in providing you an opportunity to get away from it all. There are also wonderful historic B&B's in the area, many off the beated path, with water views and a deer or moose to see too. Check them all out at www.machiaschamber.org. And check for local festivals because rooms sell out year in advance on Margaretta Festival in June and Blueberry Festival in August. Both of which I strongly recommend. Security?? Must be kidding..no one locks their doors and the keys are in the cars is how we roll. I suggest you bring an alarm for your door knob, personal safe for belongings, and a club on your steering wheel. Truck with riffles .. It would be unusual to see one without .. Did you check if it was hunting season in Maine before leaving the big city. Deer, Duck, Moose, etc. Surprised you did not see an animal in the back of the truck. Not that I ever liked seeing a deer or moose kill when I lived there but I knew that it was needed for the meat and would feed a family all winter. In case you did not notice, there is little big industry in the area. Don't miss the best blueberry pies at all the local restaurants! You are visiting the Wild Blueberry capitol of the world in case you were wondering what was in all those open barren fields you drove by. Harvest is in August. Gift shops are full of all things blueberry. Take time to relax and smell the flowers .. Lupines are wild in June. HAPPY 250th BIRTHDAY MACHIAS ... We Came to the bluebird after a nitemare experience at another motel in town. We were so pleased to find upon entering our room that it actu/ally smelled so clean. The bathroom was spotless and the sheets were clean, white and wrinkle free. We had a great nights sleep and the maitresses were wonderful!The staff is so accomodating and friendly you really feel at home. The internet is dedicated and there are no lies being told there. It is wonderful The signal for phone service is steady and does not go out.This is an older property but it is amazing at how well they maintain it!Very clean, freshly painted all the lights and electrical outlets workeven the ceilings are freshly painted. The maids vacuum when they clean a room and their eye for detail is awesome. read more

I have been staying at this motel for several years whenever I travel to Machias. The people are great and the rooms are clean with microwave, fridge, coffee maker and free WiFi. Price varies with the seasons. They are located next to Tom's Gulf Gas Station & Restaurant - you can walk over for an excellent fresh made meal that is reasonably priced - many locals eat here. The motel is located on the "western" side of Machias just a few blocks away from a Rite-Aid, McD's and Hannaford's, and maybe a mile from UMaine Machias. Machias has a very good laundramat with free WiFi on Water Street, several places to eat and 2 5-star restaurants just outside of Machias. And just a short drive to 2 golf courses and Roque Bluffs beach and state park. Machias is the wild blueberry capital of the world - don't miss the summer festival. read more

Really nice rooms, comfy beds, and the showers are perfect. Only downside is the Wi-Fi is horrible perhaps they need to add more routers. Besides that fact I would stay there again. read more

I, too, used to consider myself a hotel snob. I stayed in many a cheap, stinky motel room when I was little, and vowed I would not stoop to staying in any more roadside motels. However, this is Maine, not the greater New York area, or even southern New England. It looks typical old notellmotel on the outside, and the interior decor is really (really) dated. Again, this is typical Maine. In the room is free wifi, a fridge (with a freezer!!), a microwave, awesome wall air conditioner, flat screen TV, and the owner is really charmingly helpful. I had to giggle a bit at the reviewer who freaked out about seeing rifles in a pickup truck...THIS IS MAINE!! The Wal-Marts all have huge gun departments, it's something you get used to, unfortunately. And I only paid $89 total for the room. Yeah, I know what that would imply elsewhere, but this place seems quite on the up and up. Bottom line, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if heading up the coast to Canada, or making this my headquarters while exploring the Downeast area. read more
